Z5 Compact stable ROM / Kernel suggestions / help (newbie) - Xperia Z5 Compact General

Hi all
Please excuse me. This is my first foray into flashing my Xperia with another ROM / Kernel and I'm running into some problems.
I've been trying to follow various threads and instructions on this forum but keep getting stuck.
Firstly, suggestions for a stable build of something?
Generally fed up of the Bluetooth issues I've been having with the Sony builds. I used Cyanogen mod a few years ago but understand that's not around any more?
So far I have unlocked the bootlader on the Z5 compact.
I have also tried flashing a TWRP recovery to it using fastboot. This kind of works, but then I just get stuck into a reboot loop. I can get into the recovery, but not much else.
I've managed to revert back to 32.4.A.0.160 through Sony's Emma flashtool. This boots fine but doesn't appear to have any recovery function. Essentially I'm back where I started after much frustration and trawling through threads.
Any help would be welcome. Please explain things as you would to an idiot
Cheers
Jo

unlock bootloader
flash recovery/TWRP to recovery partition
flash custom kernel (stock with tobias.waldvogel's mods)
to get into recovery you turn off the device and keep volume down + power button pressed until you feel a vibration (confirmation), then you can release the power button - it'll boot into recovery

Hi,
Please you can maybe help me also, i really do not find anything useful so far,
I have unlocked the bootloader, i have a working TWRP and also Supersu. But i still have issues withe the DRM keys. My first kernel was passing most of the DRM tests (most of them, not all) but the wifi was nor working. Now i have a working one but all tests fail. Considering the fact that i even have a TA back-up can you please tell me how can i patch a kernel with my keys (not to restore TA partition, i need the workaround) or a good kernel (a stock but to work with stock fw and to be able to use the thermal control FSC and adiutor). I`m noob with Z5c and it is very different from Xperia SP (my previous phone) witch i have a lot of experience.

if stock based I use this https://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-compact/development/rom-stock-z5c32-3-0-376r2dau-t3570248
Aosp based I use this
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z5...ageos-14-1-bernis-alternative-builds-t3694904 , this rom more fast than stock. now I use this, camera quality is good also.

Okay, thanx for the the info... but:
- What kernel do you use for the AOSP build?
- How do you root and still have DRM keys ?

Hi,
Thanks for the info. I have settled to the AOSP from your link (Bernie`s). I confirm that Magisk works great with it, and all seems very good now. I had to install GAPPS from opengaps site. Hope the battery is better than Resurection .

Hello
Thanks for the reply.
You got some excelent battery life. I still hardly get 12 hours even after some serious downclocking my cpu's and hotswap set to 95. I have tryed to take a screenshot to the battery screen but i have only the history from last charge (wierd).

Try calibrate your battery first, charge until 100% then use normal until drop between 5%, charge again to 100% . Use again and no need drop until very low battery to charge. I use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration for calibration.
Use calibration at once only, not to much.
Your battery status must above the line inside Mv bar on battery calibration apps when unplug the charger when percentage 100%.
If 100% then unplug chager but Mv battery below than line in the Mv bar, your battery probably broken and need to change.
I also use battery charge limit to safe life time of battery.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/root-battery-charge-limit-t3557002/
I'm limit to 90%

Wow,
Thank you Alvian. That battery optimiser realy did the trick, it literally doubled the battery discharge time. Thanks

This is a modified framework.jar and framework.odex based on the tutorial here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1411317
This mod is tested working on ICS Final by Jusada. I don't know if this mod is isn't working for others. One thing for sure, this works for CyanogenMod 7.2. I haven't try flash it on other ROMs, so, if this works for you, do tell me. I'll let the others know.

After 3 days using this mod, i can say it's amazing for my phone. My battery life increased almost twice. I used my phone as usual - always 3G and wi-fi on, few 5-6 mins phone calls and a lot of browsing in market and browser. Few minutes of Angry Birds Rio (I'm not a fan of games, my girlfriend plays) and almost 45 mins of watching online TV. My battery last more than two and a half days!!! This is something unthinkable until now. The volume steps are 30 and smooth scolling is working well for me too.
Thank you for this mod!!!

Basically, this a patch of :
A more precise volume control (Volume steps mod)
A smoother overall scrolling (Smooth scroll mod)
Fixed a CyanogenMod 7.2 battery drain issue
Volume steps mod
- People who use Android may complain about the big jump of the volume control.
- By using this mod, the volume steps are changed to 30 steps instead of the default 15 so the volume control becomes more precise.
Smooth scroll mod
- Some application developers recommend disable 'scrollingcache' in app's internal config as it can cause problem to the system, but not all applications have disabled scrollingcache.
- You will experience better overall scrolling after flashing this mod.
Battery Drain Issue
- Some people report that CyanogenMod 7.2 has a battery drain issue on SGA, and till now the problem hasn't been resolved yet.
- In my experience, this mod gives ENORMOUS battery saving, even when my SGA is overclocked at 883 MHz. But then, this is only from my own experience. I won't promise you anything.
Installing method:
Download the frameworkmod.zip from the attachment.
Mount /system.
Flash it via ClockWorkMod.
Enjoy.
Just in case of failure, make sure you have a NANDROID backup before flashing. If you have boot problems, use advance restore>restore system to revert it back.
Don't blame me if your SGA won't boot if you're using deodexed roms or stock rom.
CREDITS
Thanks to AndroidON for his great tutorial in making this mod working. Also to everybody who help me as testers and who share ideas with me.
P.S: This mod takes no effect for some people, but it works if added manually though. I think it's a script problem. Try flashing this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436367&page=6 (Thanks kevinlekiller )
Please click the thanks button, if this works.

Great News for Deodexed ROMs users, I have made the deodexed version of this mod, but yet to be tested due to no deodex roms at my disposal. So, this is a BIG WARNING!! Try, and report. Make sure you make a NANDROID backup first in case of boot failure. Anybody who use deodex roms, and want to contribute something in this modding, please PM me.
NEWThis is the working deodexed frameworkmod based on TheMyth ICS beta 2 framework.jar. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21247921&postcount=104 Try and report.
NEWThere are some people who report InfinityROM works with the deodexed version, the one that you can download below despite the rom itself is a odexed rom. Ask Mr Google why.
Can you explain what you did on the "Battery Drain Issue". Thanks.
Honestly, I totally had no idea why this would fix the battery issue, but to my experience this makes my battery lasts longer than before the modding. So, I just make a premature conclusion that MAYBE the modding itself repairs the issue. I don't know.
The volume control it's great but i'm not sure if fix the battery issue and the scrolling its great
Good work!
Glad it's working for you since this is my first post here.
thx for the mod will test it later!!
I assume it's capable of working with other mods like slaid's, gadgetcheck's and others, cause the files won't be placed in init.d?

Sorry, please read again at the post. This is not a init.d script mod, this is a modified /system/framework/framework.jar and framework.odex files. Of course this mod completely compatible with those scripts, I suppose.
I know this isn't an init.d mod. That's why I mentioned it in my previous post to justify my statement. I asked just to be sure, it's the first question of this kind here so I think it's ok. Thanks for the answer.

I never use stock roms, so, there will be no mods for stock roms from me. Quite a disappointing news to stock roms fans.

Q: How does OpenDelta auto updater work?
AA1973 said:
At first, OpenDelta will check if a Rom Zip is available on your device. If OpenDelta doesn't find it, it will download a Rom. (~170mb) From then, it will only download the difference (delta) and patches the initial Rom zip within internal SD /OpenDelta. Then, after the patch, the Rom zip will be around 280mb, as it is uncompressed.

HOW TO INSTALL
XpLoDWilD said:
First time installing OmniROM to your Galaxy Note, or coming from another ROM:
- Read known issues and FAQs
- Make sure you're running a proper working ClockworkMod-Recovery - WITH SELINUX SUPPORT!
- Copy GApps and OmniROM ZIPs to your SDCard
- Boot into Recovery
- Flash OmniROM zip from SDCard
- Flash GApps zip from SDCard
- DO A DATA WIPE / FACTORY RESET (otherwise your device will be stuck at boot)
- Reboot
- Don't restore system data using Titanium Backup!
- Restoring Apps + Data might cause problems and is not recommended, avoid it if possible!
Upgrading from earlier version of OmniROM:
- Copy the OmniROM ZIP to your SDCard
- Boot into Recovery
- Flash the OmniROM zip from SDCard
- Reboot

General probs I have with Rom
_
I would love to use this rom as my daily driver but due to some issues I have reverted to my previous setup slimsabre.
Phone gets very hot whilst charging - but charges at acceptable rate. I have replaced battery but still same.
Sometimes phone gets very hot even when not in use - I could not find any reason even looking at better batt stats and cpu spy - tried reinstalling rom and gapps only and this still happened - Phone would just become very hot to hold at some random time.
Any help on this appreciated as I do not know what is causing this.

If you got the new battery cheap off eBay or similar it's a good chance that it's fake. I've had a couple of those, heating up to the point where you're afraid of damages.
Sent from my phone using some app
When I first installed Omni my phone stayed hot for ages. It turned out that Google+, which normally I do not use and have frozen on previous ROMs, was going absolutely nuts doing some sort of background sync and downloading truckloads of data. The app was running in the background for over an hour with the CPU cores pretty much maxed out. Maybe your problem is the same. Maybe not. Eventually G+ finished its evil work and the phone performance and temperature returned to normal.
I ran with the ROM for a few days and it seemed stable, but I've actually reverted to Samsung's latest stock ROM as KitKat really wasn't doing it for me. Basically I saw no tangible benefits but did lose some convenient features and interface changes were definitely a backward step with Omni. Maybe when it's matured and ART is working fully I'll take another run at it.

Omni kernel(with SD access) was only available after flashing ROM since 12th Dec nightly, so it depends what rom you're on right now. Or perhaps you flashed Raw Kernel over it?
I would advise you to do a clean install. There's no other kernel available right now for 4.4 But it should work.

i solved it by flashing the Google keyboard from the pa gapps thread.
rebooting the device after clearing the aosp keyboard data didn't work.
the Google keyboard has no difference over the aosp one but has a working gesture typing.
you could do that too
-download Google keyboard zip
-reboot to recovery
-flash the zip
-clear cache and dalvik cache
-reboot
-select Google keyboard from settings->language and input
done
hope it helps

Guys, a little confused here,
is openDelta already integrated into the 12/15 Nightly?
if so, then why is it trying to download the whole ROM?
I think the first time we use it, it Downloads the entire ROM and then the next time it checks hashes and then only downloads updated files...
please clarify, as I thought It only downlods changed files and checks hash for that.
thought downloading fails midway, tried almost 7-8 times now,
I already increased the screen time on to 30 minues, what else can I do to get it downloaded completely
Unhappy slow charging and poor battery life.. over heating while using mobile interne
First of all many thanks for developing such a good rom. everything is upto the mark the only critical issue i am facing is very very slow charging, and along with very poor battery life i am using build of 12-12-2013. i charge my phone to 100% (it takes almost 6hrs) and it drains within 1hr (normal usage). Also i tried with two other new batteries as well same issue.
And there is one more issue whenever we change the music (forward/play-pause) using headset screen automatically turns on. Screen also turns on automatically sometimes without going on anything.
Phone over heats while running multiple application or using internet
Screen brightness is way to high on automatic setting mode even though i adjusted it with the flux response settings, in the settings of phone.
Guys please help me out i don't know much abt anroid programming and bug fixing please.

I never use maps for navigation, but i just got to my destination using Sygic. No problems with gps lock or navigation.

I8190XXANA2 is better than older ones ;) ... just takes longer to set up :P

OK, so yesterday I flashed the new ANA2 firmware and immediately saw that it uses much less RAM resources than the previous versions. Although the only downside is that it returns everything to stock (there isn't a pre-rooted one yet). And by "everything" I mean EVERYTHING : no more root ; stock recovery and a bunch of annoying apps and bloatware. So you gotta install CWM (or TWRP) again, through ODIN, then you gotta root your phone, again, with Chainfire's SuperSU app through the custom recovery. And finally you gotta install an app like Freezer to disable the bloatware (NOTE-Google Maps and Google Magazines need to be deleted from .../system/app, because for some reason they won't stay freezed after a reboot). The other thing is (at least with me) that the official samsung boot and shutdown logo are replaced by ones from Movistar (it's an operator?) and the boot up sound is missing, but if you dig a bit here in xda, you'll find a post for the Galaxy S2 which has all the S3 Mini original animations needed to restore your phone's boot and shutdown logo If you really want the boot sound back, again search a bit here and you'll find a post which has a collection of S3 system sounds (which are the same as our S3 Mini's) and you just have to copy the file "PowerON.ogg" to ...system/media/audio/ui replacing the existing one. I think it's just better to replace the whole "audio" folder, 'cause there might be some other sounds missing.
And yeah, that's about it about the new firmware. Please note that I've downloaded this http://live.samsung-updates.com/details/24398/Galaxy_S_3_Mini/GT-I8190/XEC/I8190XXANA2.html version of the ANA2 firmware, so changes may vary between other versions of it.
If you can't find the posts for the original sounds and boot stuff, ask in this thread and I'll upload them to mediafire and post links here

well, I remember getting Google Magazines, for sure, but i forgot if there are any others. Tomorrow I'll flash ANA2 again as I wanna have the ANA2 kernel (currently on bln one) for better performance. Will let you know before I start freezing and deleting them
ok, so I reinstalled ANA2 and there are a few new apps like : Gun Bros , Google Magazines , Emotico , Mucika and Movistar
Thanks , but so the unwanted apps grow more ... i believe its almost time for me to excualy search somebody in real life that can root .
Can the new firmware help my battery to last longer? becaus my Phone's battery only last for 7 hours ...

I think it helps, but can't tell exactly as I've got apps that save up battery. Here's my setup :
DU Battery Saver PRO (paid ; needs root) - only turned on the Low CPU Frequency When Screen Locked option
Boosters Plus Battery Saver PRO (paid ; needs root) - Turned on all boosters (Double booster on ones which have that option)
Tasker (paid) - i use it so that my phone goes into Airplane Mode from 00:00 to 07:00 and to turn on 3G only when I launch specified apps
Battery Saving Build.prop Tweaks (...system/build.prop) - add the following lines at the very end of the build.prop file, then save it and reboot -->
ro.ril.disable.power.collapse=0
pm.sleep_mode=1
With the above settings and the new firmware I got 5% drain from 23:00 to 07:00, which is amazing for me. The trick is to be able to use your phone without it lagging or lacking features, but when the screen turns off, all the above mentioned things take effect and greatly preserve battery life.
P.S. I can tell you how to root your phone it it's the international GT-I8190 version. I've even got all the stuff needed on my PC if you can't find something.
Oke thanks ,
I have never used custom rom . So i first gonne see if the new firmware thingy can help and otherwise i install custom rom

I was like that 'bout a year ago, but yesterday I remembered that there is nothing better than the latest stock firmware for a device. With all custom roms that i've tried FF6 and a bunch of other games and the whole UI lagged very much. As of yesterday, it runs smooth again (just like when I bought my phone).
Ah oke good to know
I'm installing it now... but can u plz share the link for boot and sounds staff

Maclaw ROM is much better than stock, also for battery life now. One GMAIL push sync + wApp will last 2 days moderate usage.

Yeah i know, but the only thing that prevents me from switching is that there is no TouchWiz in CM (and i love touchwiz launcher) xD
Anyway, i was talking about how the newest STOCK firmware is better than the other STOCK ones.
Currently waiting for DModv7, though
does anybody know a way to enable 4way reboot for this latest firmware?

High Battey drain, KernelOS?

Hi! Could anyone help me figure out why I have such high battery drain? I get about 2,5 hours of screen on time if I'm lucky. This is only on AOSP roms. According to GSMbattery it's "kernel is" that drains the most battery. I also have betterbatterystats installed but I'm not sure how the read that app.
This is the data from GSM -> kernel OS:

It is a custom rom Lineage OS. What do you mean by reinstall system I've tried wiping everything multiple times but the battery still drains.

KernelOS doesn't exist, that's what i mean. every android iteration has something called a kernel, which manages the CPU and stuff. it's a part of the system, and not an OS at all. If you don't know what that is I wouldn't recommend that you poke around, you might slip up and DFU brick your phone...
By reinstall the system I mean:
-go to TWRP
-wipe system, data, cache, dalvik
-flash the A2017X universal bootstack, the modem file for your phone, the ROM, the OpenGApps if you want to have Google stuff, Magisk or SuperSU for root
-Reboot and use

I have reinstalled that way many times with many different aosp ROMs and kernels. Since reinstalls won't fix it is my only option to stay stock if I want over 4 hours of screen on time?

Try to flash a custom kernel, and if it doesn't do anything then yeah, go back to stock
I would try Wakelock detector or look into alarm section of BBS.
Can you tell us which modem you are using and which device you own?

I've tried both llama and radioactive kernel for a few days each. K guess I'll have to go back to stock.

I don't think it's got anything to do with wakelocks as it doesn't use barely any battery when the screen is off. Overnight it might use 3-4 percent. Over 2 hours in the day it only drains 1 percent.
I use the modem from the LOS thread and I have the G model of the phone.

You might have the cores always at max speed. Use Kernel Adiutor, and try to use the conservative governor on big and LITTLE cores

Please try b05 modem.
I use it without problems.
Why don't you post screens of battery usage and signal strength timeline?
I've tried the conservative governor now. It didn't help.

Hi. Since yesterday I run dark room as opposed to RR official. I did factory reset using twrp 3.1.1.0. Before changing roms I tried to install different modems. Currently b06 since I have G version. According to stats phone does sleep yet battery drain is high. I think last night lost like 40% or even more. Not sure when this all started. I've been using RR for months without any issue. The thing is that I was always charging my phone at night so I don't know when exactly this started to happen. Perhaps there is a hardware issue. I will try to get back to stock this weekend if no other solution is found. Cheers

I think I ****ed up my phone. Elp!!!!

If I have a note 4/4x I don't even know my myself but I know that I have the Snapdragon processor. And I thought Note 4 and Note 4x both have the Snapdragon 625 processor but I have the Snapdragon 626. So I'm a lot more confused. And that's not the issue, the issue is I don't like the MIUI so I tried a custom ROM. A day went on the custom ROM feeling super awesome but on the 2nd day battery started draining a lot faster than it did. Before custom ROM it sign use any battery on sleep even if it was left for hours and now it's draining while on sleep too (maybe. I did notice it tho). I can't explain how afraid I'm now to play games on the phone currently because of the battery drain. I don't want to go back to MIUI but if there is no option and if it will fix the draining problem I can consider it... Maybe... But PLEASE HELP ME ASAP
Thanks in advance to all of the developers for helping.
Sorry if my English is bad. Sumimase.
It took 3% of my battery charge to write that post... I think you can imagine how ****ed up situation I'm in...

First of all, you have a Snapdragon 625. Showing 626 is simply an error.
Find out what's eating your battery. It can be an app running in the background. You can check that in the Settings menu - Battery.
And which ROM are you actually using?

Thanks for the tip. And when I was in MIUI or on the first day of using the custom ROM I played like 5 hours continuously and it drained only 55% of charge but now it's too much. It's draining even on sleep.

First of all don't panic, panicking doesn't make situations better,it can worson your situation by your thoughts.
Since u have a custom ROM installed I suggest to backup all your data and clean flash the ROM or if you aren't satisfied flash stock Rom,but don't lock the bootloader in case you want to return to Custom Roms, which I think you want to.

How to not lock the bootloader? Sorry am extremely noob ??
Here is what u can do
Backup files on ur internal storage and everything else u want like contact, app data, wifi setting etc.
Now go here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...her-development/rom-pixel-experience-t3723382
and download the PE rom .
Then goto twrp and format system, data, cache and dalvik cache. And then flash the Pixel Experience rom.
Now the most important part, once the phone reboots and setup is complete dont install any apps just check if u still got the battery drain issue or not.
If there is no battery drain then the problem was with any apps that u had installed that was eating ur battery like dog or something with ur software
But if u still face the same issue without installing any apps then there might be problem with ur hardware/battery.
Hope this will help you !

If u want to flash the stock Rom then download full Rom package I recommend 8.1.10 as it is the oldest firmware and you can update it to latest version, download mi flash tool extract the Rom file.in the extracted folder their will be another folder, copy that to any directory
Open mi flash tool select folder in that directory where you pasted, the folder within the extracted file and select CLEAN ALL in bottom right corner, and select flash, wait for the system to flash phone will automatically turn on!
By the way if you would have watched the video in my previous post, you had not asked me this?
Everything is explained in video!

True that I didn't watch the video (am lazy too lol) but I think that flashing the stock firmware locks the bootloader. If not then it's okay. And checking the video now. Thanks

In MiFlash choose "clean all" instead of "clean all and lock".
