Guide on rebranding VKY-AL00 with EMMC? - Huawei P10 Plus Questions & Answers

Hi everyone!
I bought a VKY-AL00C00 with EMMC and I would like to rebrand it to VKY-L29C432 so I can use full Google services. The phone is unlocked and I'm looking for guidance on the next steps to rebranding.
In previous threads, I saw several posts about users with AL00 having trouble applying the rebranding tutorials if their phone used EMMC. I'm wondering if there's a concrete solution to rebranding this particular phone?
I don't have a lot of experience with flashing ROMs and the like so any help is greatly appreciated!

Bump!
I'm in a similar situation with chinese p10 plus using EMMC.

You can either use the EMMC version of one of fromfuture's custom ROMs, e.g. https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10-plus/development/rom-fromfuture-genesis-b150-t3617126 or you can use funkyhuawei (paid service). Both of these have worked for me. I haven't tried other methods.

Just funkyhuawei
I tried many things to avoid paying for funkyhuawei but anything worked. Some complex rebranding methods end up braking because of ****ty EMMC... I almost brick the phone.
Just go and pay funkyhuawei, it's the only thing of many I tried and it worked like a charm... now the phone thinks of himself being occidental, even with Huawei's OTA Updates.

Some advice on "upgrading" my ALE-L02

Hi guys,
I'm a little noob with geek stuff but still I like to do it by myself.
Story: I went abroad for a six months trip and I bought a P8 lite in Japan (Soft bank carrier). The model is a ALE-L02-C111B210 (single sim) and from my search on the forum, I understand that it is the same as L21 except LTE frequencies may not work. I have different ideas but I'd like to check before doing anything stupid (which I am )
The phone has a lot of japanese crappy apps that I cannot uninstall and no updates are provided by this carrier. That why I want to root it and debrand it.
1- When I put my european simcard, it ask me for a network unlock code. I cannot get it from the carrier because my account was closed and they don't want to hear anything. I then found website who can give me a "generic" unlock code for this device against 10€. Before paying for a code, I'd like to know if rooting the phone and puting a custom/unbrand rom, it will also unlock the network or not. I compare to my old iphone who can be unlocked once rooted
2- I read a LOT of threds about L21 and several people with the L02 used the video for RootJunky who give all required files included a firmware file but an old one I think (V100R001C636B120).
Can replace it with one I got from huawei website but following the same procedure ? for instance : HUAWEI P8 Lite Firmware(ALE-L21, Andriod 6.0, EMUI 4.0, C432B565, Austria, Single SIM, Channel-Others)
3- dumb question. what's the stock rom for ? because it is only 34Mb on the RootJunky repository
Thanks a lot for any help/answer

1) Which website? Are you sure it is safe? Don't give credit card information on such sites without confirmation. Iphone rooted?Iphone can be unlock and jail break but remember root is different from jailbreaking.
2) You may flash other country firmware. It's no big deal. But you may need to unlock bootloader.
3) stock rom is the default rom that phone comes with. Its size is usually above 1GB. 34MB can't be stock rom.

Best method to root the A2017 Chinese Model

Hi All,
I am looking for the best way to root to determine what is causing battery drain (awake). Basically needing to determine the best method of rooting the A2017 I have determined several methods but actually haven't seen much feedback on peoples experiences flashing this particular build. The current build I am running is A2017V1.0.0B07.0 (was purchased for Aliexpress) I have found this thread below:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/wip-axon-7-root-bootloader-unlokced-t3441204
How ever looks like people are experiencing bricking as a result.
I have then come across the below method which looks like it hasn't been tested on unlocking the bootloader for the A2017 model
https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/recovery-official-twrp-zte-axon-7-t3515715
I am getting further and further confused about which method is correct and the best plan of attack?
Any help would be appreciated
I'm having the same difficulty.
Hello, I would like to know if you got any satisfactory answers, or discovered some method for this cell to have better battery life and better usability, thanks for the help!

Root/Updates/Rebranding/Unbricking - Official FunkyHuawei Support Thread for Mate 9

This is the official FunkyHuawei support thread.
FunkyHuawei is a (mostly) paid service which allows you to do the following:
1. Install the latest system software, even before it's released by OTA.
2. Install beta/prerelease system software, without needing to be a beta tester.
3. Recover a bricked phone.
4. Rebranding / Change the region of your phone (China -> Europe, for example, to get Google and so on.)
5. Root your EMUI 8 phone, even with stock recovery (This feature is free)
Except for rooting, all of these features are supported even if you cannot unlock your phone's bootloader.
We are pleased to announce FHUnbrickFlashTool -- You can now repair any recent Huawei phone via fastboot, even if you cannot access eRecovery or boot the phone! Even if it doesn't show the Huawei logo, as long as you can get a fastboot connection to your computer, you can recover the phone! Google FHUnbrickFlashTool or check FunkyHuawei's reddit for details.
To find FunkyHuawei, please Google it. Or you can find a link to the service within the following XDA Portal article.
https://www.xda-developers.com/android-oreo-emui-6-huawei-mate-9/
In cooperation with XDA, FunkyHuawei is offering a free credit to Recognized Developers and Recognized Contributers on XDA.
Please PM me for more details.
We will continue posting in this thread with updates regarding new software versions and releases regarding this device.
We will also be monitoring it so we can help anyone who has issues.
For device-specific information, please see the next post.
Mate 9 Device-Specific Information
The Mate 9 now has a relatively mature community with many methods to do many things.
However, there are still some things only possible with FunkyHuawei, so it would be most useful for:
1. Installing updates, especially on bootloader-locked devices, even if the update is not approved by Huawei for your device.
2. Rebranding bootloader-locked devices.
3. Restoring bricked devices.
Note that even though the Mate 10 Root tool is designed for and publicized as being for the Mate 10, it works perfectly on the Mate 9 running Android O betas.
This tool is FREE, and might be easier than installing TWRP and rooting that way.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How much does FunkyHuawei cost?
A: You need to buy credits on the FunkyHuawei website. The price per credit varies depending on the number of credits you buy. Different operations cost different amounts of credits. However, the Root feature of the Mate 10 tool is free, and as mentioned above, Recognized Developers/Contributors of XDA can ask for a free credit.
Q: My phone is bootloader locked, and FRP locked. My bootloader unlock code dosen't work. It won't boot. eRecovery doesn't work. Can you help?
A: Yes. With the Mate 10 this is now a common situation. Contact FunkyHuawei for help in this situation. We'll need to access your computer remotely and the procedure is a little bit complicated, but the phone can be unbricked.
Q: I can't get my bootloader unlock code/don't want to unlock my bootloader, but I want to change my phone to something other than Chinese. Can you help?
A: Yes. Our new FunkyHuawei Rebrand Tool works on ALL recent Huawei phones, to rebrand them to another region even when the bootloader is locked.
Q: I'm not seeing the latest version listed on FunkyHuawei or elsewhere as an OTA. Why not?
A: Huawei has a very odd and unpredictable way of rolling out OTA updates. You can use FunkyHuawei to install the new version immediately, or can wait for the update to be rolled out. It might be a month or more after release until the update reaches your device from Huawei directly. We have no idea why.
Q: Why isn't FunkyHuawei free?
A: Because many of FunkyHuawei's features cost FunkyHuawei money to provide. Features that don't cost FunkyHuawei money to provide, like rooting the Mate 10 or our TWRP build for Mate 9/Oreo, for example, are generally made available for free. There are also bills to pay, kids to put through school, and so on.
Q: I noticed FunkyHuawei in an XDA Portal article!
A: FunkyHuawei loves XDA, and is cooperating with them as much as possible. Recognized Developers and Contributors on the XDA forums are welcome to claim a free credit from FunkyHuawei as well.
Q: I have a different question.
A: This is what this thread is for! Post away!
I am surprised how you always have the audacity to constantly advertise your paid services on here even though most of the community is obviously bothered by it.
Advertising your products is against the rules of XDA. You're just getting away with it nowadays because you're doing it indirectly. But you're not fooling anyone and we all know what you're doing. Just stop. It's annoying.
New Android O Build: MHA-L29 8.0.0.329(C432) now available for MHA-L29 European branding.
Can be installed with eRecovery on top of any Android O beta.
Someone report this

It is currently allowed for commercial organizations to post "support" threads so long as they don't post links to their site, behave in a spammy way or post things that are clearly not of interest or use to our users or our purpose as a site. This is of use as the info is of direct relevance and use to users. The information here is not really any more than we'd allow in a "Support" thread.
So, it's within the rule, he is providing support, he's not linking out of XDA. As with any other support thread, if for any reason it were to be abused then the article would be pulled and the thread closed.

I never said his post broke any of the rules. I do realize that it does not. If it was, I would have reported it.
I am not sure if you're a Mate 9 user, but if you do spend a lot of time on the Mate 9 forums you'd see how he is always talking about his website and how he used it to do X and Y. About how it is a solution to bricked phones and whatsoever. It is not that hard to see that he is indeed indirectly advertising for his service (and I do realize there might be no rules against that). But yeah. It is just annoying how he is always on about his website. Especially considering that the user was previously temporary banned for putting his paid service on here.

No problem. The post wasn't completely directed at you. We'd already received reports from other members so I wanted to explain to all; your post just happened to be readily available to reply to.
I understand your point and we've clarified with him what is and isn't allowed. He's promised to tone it down and to limit it to his support threads. So, as we do with all members of the community who want to contribute, let's give him the benefit of the doubt and let this thread get back on topic.

While I generally don't approve of advertising here on xda, I have to say that Funky Huawei with their unbrick tool are a life saver. As long as you can get into fastboot mode this little tool can rescue your phone. It costs a little money for their "credits" but when it comes to either having a $400 paperweight or having a working phone the process is worth it.

Hate to agree, while I don't like how they operate I have used them to save a device or two because I messed up. The eRecovery with DNS is brilliant and pretty much idiot (me) proof.

L09 is the single sim version and L29 is the dual SIM version, rebranding is not going to change the model.

Same here, this was the first and hopefully last time, if it wasn't for a corrupt system.img backup that I had I wouldn't have had to use their unlock tool, next time I flash a custom system I'm going to make damn sure my backup is flashable and not going to brick this beast

A2017G Japan - Lots of Questions...

Okay, so I used to love rooting my phones, but I mostly dealt with flagship phones in the US which made rooting and flashing a cakewalk. I understand some of the nitty gritty, so when I got my first phone in Japan, I was super excited about rooting it. But after reading this forum for hours, I have so many questions...my phone build is A2017G JPV1.1.0B03.
I read this but this mostly focused on using an update on this phone.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/help/a2017g-japan-to-a2017g-european-a2017g-t3608411
1. If that thread is correct, that means I technically just have the European version of the phone with Japanese modems installed. Is that correct?
2. Also, does that mean (if I were not to root the phone) I would need to install a European Axon 7 Oreo update for it to actually work on the phone? Would the US version fail?
3. I can't seem to find the modem for my phone. I can upload some screenshots later but can someone clarify if I'm right that it's a "B03" or am I looking at the wrong information?
4. There is no Oreo release for Japan, so does that mean I can't flash an Oreo ROM because there won't be any modems for this?
That's all for now, but I'm sure I have a lot of follow-up questions to your answers. Your help is greatly appreciated.
Unlock bootloader, install twrp, instal "G" model bootstack, instal any custom rom, then flash "G" modem in twrp, reboot. No matter where you device are from, the model matters. If its "G", its a european version and its only what you need to know. If you want stock oreo and didnt recieve through OTA, download the update in ZTE website for your "G" version, put it in a sdcard then reboot your phone to recovey then select "install update from sd card" option.
Basically, the model of the phone is printed on the back of it down the bottom.
A2017 is China version.
A2017U is US version.
A2017G is everything else (Global) version. It's not actually euro.
The modem software has to be for the actual model of the phone, not your location in the world.
Don't correlate software versions between Chinese, US and Global, they use different numbering systems. Only concentrate on what is for your model.
The rest of this pertains to A2017G as that is what you seem to have.
They start at B01 (usually pre-release beta) and go up from there but each new Android version eg Nougat, Oreo etc means the numbers restart from B01.
Nougat B03 has nothing to do with Oreo B03.
Look at the software version, A2017GV1.1.0 is very old, the 1.1.0 is the key to the Android version. 1.2.0 is Nougat, 1.3.0 is Oreo so you have Marshmallow at 1.1.0 and B03 release from that Android generation.
It seems confusing at first but it's actually quite simple.

I'm so used to dealing with multiple modems for the same model of phone in the US (between the major carriers and stuff) that I was overthinking it.
Thanks a ton. That simplifies things so much...and also makes me wonder why updating never occurred for the Japanese release. It's not like there isn't language support for newer versions of Android, but maybe not for the MIUI? I need to be more careful choosing my next phone then, though probably it should be an AOSP phone like the Zenfone or Pixel.
Guess I have my work cut out for me this weekend. Time to run a giant backup and start rooting. Thanks again for all your help. I like this phone (though I often accidentally hover/touch the home button when typing, and I hope there's a sensitivity fix for that :laugh so I want it to last for a while before I get my next one.
It's still a good phone, I look at new phones and think, hmmm, nice, but what will I gain on a daily basis? Nothing more to be honest. The A7 has enough power for me still. The one thing I could really use would be a higher capacity battery. Was looking at Huawei phones but now, well.....
For updates, they had issues with OTA and reverted to only releasing for a whole ROM download for update from SD card.
I personally won't apply an OTA for mine even now at Oreo. Must be a whole ROM to flash with the updater. That's all I've done with it since purchase and it works great still. A lot of people seem to have all sorts of weird issues after applying OTA updates.
Sweet. As someone with some experience with this stuff, do you have any tips or tricks I should know moving forward? I'm going to try rooting it tonight.
-EDIT: Quick little question, my phone says the Android version is 7.1.1 but that would be Nougat, right? Or is it actually Marshmellow?
7.1.1 yeah, Nougat. That doesn't make sense from your first post.
Was it used when you got it or new? Have you checked the model from what's on the back of it, not what software says it is?
I keep mine stock, can't advise on rooting etc. I use it with personal and work SIMs and it has to pass requirements including encryption to run Microsoft InTune and our company portal and use it in work mode. Bootloader hasn't even been unlocked. The most I did was uninstall some built in user apps through ADB.
I also have a 2017G bought in Japan. I unlocked it and worked on it based on this forum, and I can say that it behaves as any other 2017G. I am not interested to use the stock ROM, but yes, I remember that it was on Nougat version when I received it.
I have the A2017 (china). As above, update your phone to the region. As a result of having a china variant, i think i miss out on band 28 and some other essential bands for reception. I get 3G/low 4G connections and a lot of bad reception areas (countryside living). Its no problem.
Currently running AEX 6.5. Search some of my recent posts for how I updated to this version.

The phone was brand new when i bought it. It was on a "super sale" though, going for 12,000 yen (like 110 bucks or so). I was thinking about getting a Zenfone but if I could save the money and make it to at least Oreo I'd be happy. Been having issues with the battery whenever I use more than 2 apps at a time.
If you could link an unlocking guide and a ROM that worked well for you that would be great. I have one I plan to use but I'm always open to suggestions. After the first time, I'll feel more comfortable with it. In the worst case scenario that I brick this thing I'll just buy the Zenfone early
The Zenphone 6 is looking a viable buy now.
My Axon 7 is still good so not really looking but I did just get a new Axon 7 Mini for use as a media player. It still has AMOLED screen, stereo speakers, headphone jack, DAC for the jack etc. No hi res bluetooth though. Cost me AU$149 new in box from retail store. Bargain! How much is a dedicated music player which is crap at movies or just cant do them?
Chucked my 128Gb SD in. Sounds good playing through the car hifi, lower 3.5 jack output matches HU aux in impedance better than Axon 7 which can overload the input at high volume. Very balanced and clean sound.

Where did you get in on a super sale? website in Japan?
Obvious unlocking guide is this one https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/guide-axon-7-custom-oreo-roms-newbies-t3786693
Give yourself 2 hours to get the job done, and there are a few guides on youtube for unlocking the bootloader and installing TWRP (if you havent already).
If you cannot root the phone by your own discovery, I dont think you'll be up for installing a custom rom. It takes a degree of risk, and research. Being successful in the attempt is worth it.
Do a backup in TWRP, or get titanium backup pro (paid) to do a backup of your essential apps and data (email, messaging, google authenticator etc). I think titanium backup is better, especially if you are going from android 7 to 8 or 9 and different twrp versions.
If your phone boots following Oki's guide (Option 1), then scroll to the last page to my post about taking it to android 9 on AEX.
As your phone is A2017G, search for the necessary files in the forum corresponding to your modem. There are plenty of links.
Good luck and let us know you are successul!

I bought it at Rakuten Mobile. There was a super sale and it was like 80% off, lol.
I tried using the guide over the last couple of days and no matter what I've done, I can't seem to get to recovery after doing the flashing (step 9). I was able to flash a stock image back on, but then when I try again it's the same results. I'm at a loss as to why but...there's another guide using the Axon7Tool.

The downside is that I work two jobs tomorrow so I won't have time to try this new one out but I think I downloaded everything already. This is kinda frustrating though..
-EDIT: I used the unbricking guide to EDL flash the B10 Nougat and it is a different experience than what I had before...geez, seems the Japanese version was severely neglected. If I run into problems with the other guide I feel comfortable EDL flashing Oreo. Really appreciate the support guys, let me know what you think. Before I started this, my battery was lasting barely 8 hours with only LINE and Chrome being the main background apps...
Not sure it's relevant here any more but I have a 128 Gb A2017 which I put a G build on, after being a bit miffed at some of the stuff (mostly Google based) I couldn't use on the original. I really don't know that much about what I'm doing but it all seems to work OK, though an old battery life problem has returned so I'm going to be asking elsewhere (probably) about how to replace the modem software. I also have a bit of a problem with GPS intermittently not working (going on and offline) but I suspect that's probably a hardware problem rather than the build. Mine is on

you can't. There are 3 modem variants by region (US, china, global) and many versions for each, but they are not interchangeable and flashing another has already wiped some IMEIs long ago (doesn't always happen though)

Verizon Galaxy S7 Edge: Removing bloatware after 1-Clk-Root

Just picked up a carrier unlocked Verizon Galaxy S7 Edge model SM-G935V.
Now that I finally have a model which seems like it should be relatively easy to root, I would prefer to learn to do it using a PC ie flashing ROM, but I have no PC*access*right now.
My main question is:
After rooting my phone using a 1-click root method, will it be relatively easy for me to un-install ALL bloatware & eventually end up with a phone that's running just as efficiently as it would if I had picked out and flashed a good stripped down ROM using a PC instead of some 1-click method?
I'm also considering purchase and use of Super-sume Pro (if the job is done with Kingroot).
Any advice AT ALL regarding what I hope to do would be greatly appreciated... and jic it helps here s a little of my background:
I have NO successful experiences using TWRP or the like w other phones.. although I believe I came close!!... my last few phone picks turned out to be models which were pretty much impossible to root (locked bootloader was the common culprit best I could understand).... Otherwise I think I'd have been able to do at least 1 previous model the flash-rom way.
I DO have A lot of general experience w PCs and have successfully rooted a few phones using 1 click Android software such as Kingroot, but at that time I did not fully understand or hope to remove bloatware to cool battery or otherwise dial in best performance.
It's been at least 3 years since I last performed a 1 click root on any phone.
Thanks in advance for any advice or assistance... I really appreciate everyone & everything at XDA.
Best advice, get/borrow a laptop and follow the instructions in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/how-to/root-s7-s7edge-oreo-nougat-t3819616 to see about rooting your S7e. All those "1-click" options never worked for me. With the method in the above link, I can root my S7e in under 15min.
1) First and foremost, what is the current software version your S7e is running? example= G935VVRS4CRI1. IF the 5th digit from the RIGHT is the letter "B" stop! You can't root. If it is the letter "A," or a number, you are good to go.
2) even with root, there is no flashing of ANY custom ROM's. Yes, you can debloat and make some changes, but with the godd**mn locked bootloader the options are limited. Rooting does not unlock the bootloader, therefore there is no TWRP, Magisk, etc.
Others with experience regarding those 1-click methods may chime in with their advice/experience. But none of those instant methods ever worked for me.
Good luck.

Skyline,
Thank you for taking the time. Much appreciated. Luckily I already found out about the software version issue and I'm looking at the number 4, so that potential roadblock isn't one
Let me try to understand exactly what you said towards the end of your reply, though.
Are you saying that even if I use a PC and avoid any 1 click method that I will not have any option to flash a custom ROM? I could have sworn I saw a thread a few nights ago somewhere here at XDA which required use of a PC, specifically for my phone model and it described the altered OS or ROM as being as simplified as it gets, devoid of all Verizon bloatware. Maybe I am referring to it in correctly when I say custom ROM, I'll look for said post to see what I may be remembering incorrectly.
I have personally had great experience w 1-click methods in the past, @ least 4 different phones (older Samsung, LG).. but I have NEVER tried 1-click w a phone thats truly important... as in important enough to seriously worry about stolen IMEI, keylogger or other malware, etc..
I want a perfectly clean, safe "out of the gates" root on this phone, so I'm willing to wait to make sure it's done the proper/best way on my FIRST attempt.
Looks like the thread is already talking me out of using 1-click (might have known deep down that needed to happen lol).
Anyway thanks again for your advice.
When I finally do get to rooting it, I'll post the details and overall experience info here.
Whatever you do, DO NOT UPDATE to the latest software version.
With root, you can debloat all you want. I have next to nothing running on my phone (goodbye Google "services"). You just can not flash any custom (non-official Samsung) ROM's such as LineageOS, Calvioppe, etc... thanks to that damn locked Crapdragon. Much as I love my S7e, when it dies, it will be my last Samsung for that reason alone.
If you follow the steps outlined in the above linked thread, you should be able to root 1-2-3. I have been rooted since it became available and have had zero issues. It will require a PC/ laptop but it is reliable and verified working.
Good luck with your project.

Thanks again for the warning about no updating... I am WELL aware of this, my friend.
Take a look at this thread... it really looks to me as if this person is talking about flashing a ROM on the S7 Edge, no?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7...a-evolution-x-samsung-galaxy-s7-edge-t4058837
That's only 1 of at least 2 or 3 similar threads that I've been having a look at lately...
If you look closely, that is for the Exynos version of the S7e. Verizon uses the Snapdragon (ie. Crapdragon) processor which has a locked bootloader for US models.
Ok I get it completely... one last teeny tiny bit of hope- I purchased mine Unlocked by manufacturer. Could that possibly extend beyond carrier unlock and (maybe maybe please just possibly) mean my bootloader is unlocked?
Went out of my way to make sure it was unlocked by MANUFACTURER, not SELLER for obvious reasons. Had no knowledge about chipset... dammit there's always something to miss no matter how much prep one tries to do!
Unlocked just means that the phone is able to be activated on any carrier ie. not specifically locked to only Verizon.
Only the Exynos and Chinese Snapdragon can be bootloader unlocked. As mentioned, I love my S7e, and will use it until it dies, but I seriously doubt I will get another Snapdragon Samsung that is locked down tighter than Ft. Knox.
Good luck...
