Some advice on "upgrading" my ALE-L02 - P8lite Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I'm a little noob with geek stuff but still I like to do it by myself.
Story: I went abroad for a six months trip and I bought a P8 lite in Japan (Soft bank carrier). The model is a ALE-L02-C111B210 (single sim) and from my search on the forum, I understand that it is the same as L21 except LTE frequencies may not work. I have different ideas but I'd like to check before doing anything stupid (which I am )
The phone has a lot of japanese crappy apps that I cannot uninstall and no updates are provided by this carrier. That why I want to root it and debrand it.
1- When I put my european simcard, it ask me for a network unlock code. I cannot get it from the carrier because my account was closed and they don't want to hear anything. I then found website who can give me a "generic" unlock code for this device against 10€. Before paying for a code, I'd like to know if rooting the phone and puting a custom/unbrand rom, it will also unlock the network or not. I compare to my old iphone who can be unlocked once rooted
2- I read a LOT of threds about L21 and several people with the L02 used the video for RootJunky who give all required files included a firmware file but an old one I think (V100R001C636B120).
Can replace it with one I got from huawei website but following the same procedure ? for instance : HUAWEI P8 Lite Firmware(ALE-L21, Andriod 6.0, EMUI 4.0, C432B565, Austria, Single SIM, Channel-Others)
3- dumb question. what's the stock rom for ? because it is only 34Mb on the RootJunky repository
Thanks a lot for any help/answer

1) Which website? Are you sure it is safe? Don't give credit card information on such sites without confirmation. Iphone rooted?Iphone can be unlock and jail break but remember root is different from jailbreaking.
2) You may flash other country firmware. It's no big deal. But you may need to unlock bootloader.
3) stock rom is the default rom that phone comes with. Its size is usually above 1GB. 34MB can't be stock rom.

The website should be ok, it has a good rating of trustedshops. does not look fake, but still, I'd like to know if buying an unlock code will be necessary after rooting/changing the rom .[/QUOTE]

Debrand&Update from TIM Mobile B123

Hello,
I've found on my polish android forum way to debrand p8 lite without using bootloader. However it doesn't work on my phone which is branded for TIM Mobile (some italian operator).
My version is TAG-L01C212B123 - I want to debrand it and follow with official huawei releases.
I'd like to make it without unlocking bootloader so I can keep my guarantee.
Is it possible?
Thanks!

Your best bet is to unlock the bootloader by getting your unlock key from huawei and if the problems arise wherein you need to return your phone pay the small amount to DC unlocker (Google it) to lock your phone (shows locked not relocked)

Thank you for your reply.
Well first of all I managed to update to b576 without unlocking the bootloader.
And the main purpose why I couldn't do it in the first place was... not having a Huawei p8 Lite but huawei 5s enojy / gr3 / p8lite smart (TAG-01) - call it whatever you want. A little misunderstanding between me and phone seller.

If I had, I wouldnt return it It was slightly better than p8 lite.
I guess you should look at chinese/hindi forums, I guess that phone was meant for asian markets.

, and when i wrote to them 3 days ago still didn't get any answer. So I was just thinking is there any other way to unlock bootloader?
I was thinking about using something like kingoroot to get root access, then getting some kind of custom recovery, then getting normal root and getting rid of kingo, but have no idea will it work and how to get it to work. Any ideas? Or should i just stay with unrooted p8....
well that site did not work me for me too...

Hi, be careful with Kingroot; I used it on my Huawei P8 lite and it bricked my phone (could not update any app and not go back to factory settings). Also the Huawei website was hopeless for me. But I got the unlock code by PHONING the general Huawei helpdesk. I used a Dutch phonenumber (free calling, no cost) because I live in NL, but you should look for such a number in your country. The man was very helpful, asked for my SN, IMEI and product ID and one day later he phoned bak with the unlock code
Hotline support, view our global hotlines. Google on these sentences on the Huawei general pages. I wish you succes. Jos

Yes, many users have reported that rooting through Kingroot bricked their device, but it worked like a charm for me... Anyways, if you want to do via kingroot way, please understand every risk...

Chinese version does not support Google Play as of version B115

So I want to kind of start this discussion and work on a fix. Ideally a fix without root, if it's possible.
According to the Chinese forums, the Chinese version (which I'm getting because I want 128GB of storage) has been altered as of version B115 to not include the necessary GMS framework to allow installation of google services, play store, and so on.
Previous versions (some Chinese models shipped with B109) included the ability to load Google Services.
The first step in fixing this for people whose phones ship with more recent firmware is to find a full package of B109. The only other option will be bootloader unlock and flashing of either international firmware or google play services after unlocking the bootloader.
My phone will arrive here in Japan tomorrow, so I will work on reverse engineering the update server like I did with Mate 8, and keep everyone up to date with any progress. Does anyone else have plans to buy the Chinese version? Please feel free to chime in!
UPDATE!!
As of December, Huawei has released a package to install google services on the Mate 9. Simply search the HiApp store for GMS and get the first result.
Couldn't just install a international from through the update?
So your saying if I purchase this from a Chinese online mobile store I wont be able to get google play store on it im in need of a new phone so bad and wanted this

You will be able to get Google Play store on it IF your phone ships with version B109 or earlier. Apparently this is rare. Otherwise, you will not be able to without unlocking your bootloader, at this time. My phone is supposed to arrive today, so I will be a guinea pig and figure out what needs to be done, as obviously it's useless to me without Google Play.
I have bought Chinese huawei mate 9 too. And it doesn't have google. If anyone knows the solution please help

Good! We work together again, like the old days!
Do you have the international one now? Can you use wireshark and find out the http query from eRecovery to get the location to the latest firmware?
For example, you can get latest Mate 8 AL10 firmware like this:
Code:
curl -d '{"rules":{"D_version":"","DeviceName":"HUAWEI NXT-AL10","saleinfo":"||||||||N","IMEI":"","FingerPrint":"","FirmWare":"HUAWEI NXT-AL10-all-cn","IMSI":"","C_version":"","OS":"","HotaVersion":"e.0.1","Language":"","devicetoken":"","PackageType":"full"}}' http://query.hicloud.com:80/sp_ard_common/v2/Check.action?latest=True

Now this is very confusing. I ordered the 4/64GB version from aliexpress. All of the descriptions (of all sellers) on ali clearly highlights all the network features and bands that are only supported by the european model of Mate9, called "MHA-L29". Huawei's official specs clearly say MHA-L29 is dual-sim supported and MHA-L09 (=chinese version) is not.
I asked the seller and after 3-4 questions he finally replied it's the chinese version (of course) but tried to convince me that it will work with google play because every huawei phone they sell can work with play.
I can't risk it to have a phone that I have to mod to use play, and I can't expect the firmware updates easily without any problem/risk.
I cancelled the order, asked a few other sellers they all have the chinese version. It seems I can't get the european version with a lower price I have to wait till the phone launches here, and it will be much more expensive.
What is your opinion how difficult will it be to update the firmware with sufficient google services by tricks on the chinese models? Would you recommend it to a noob like me(I unlocked bootloaders and stuff but I can only follow specific directions) to have the chinese model backed by a worthless warranty?

I think it will be possible to do with specific directions, probably within a month -- hopefully sooner. I also think it's possible that Huawei re-introduces the ability to install Google services into a future update, because the outcry from the Chinese community is huge.
Once I find the way to do it, I will make as easy-to-follow guide as I can, but I can't promise anything! It might be very difficult if it's too different from the Mate 8.
My advice to you is to wait until a solution has been found before buying the Chinese version.

Thanks, I'm gonna wait a little more then. I cancelled my order before shipment so they must refund me without any problem. There will be a 130-150 USD difference comparing the chinese version to prices in my country. I'm hesitating to either wait for this phone or buy the OnePlus 3T on the 28th of november, but I really like the Mate9.
A best solution could be to completely trasform chinese into european. With european rom, european modem and other features like sar reduction : do you remember that mate 8 EU had a string "sar reduction yes" that in chinese there wasn't?
Do you think that is possibile to convert At 100% chinese in european? (with unlock bootloader)
We can work At this?

Customs delayed my phone's delivery to Monday, so I can't really say without looking at how it works, but I don't see any reason it wouldn't be possible to convert the Chinese version to the european one as long as we have an unlocked bootloader or root.

G950FD from Iran (THR) with pre-installed Persian/Iranian Calendar

I bought an unlocked G950FD which turns out to be CSC THR (part of OXM) so should mean it's from Iran. I have found it generic enough in almost every way to be used internationally (in English) with two noticeable exceptions that i'm trying to solve.
1) there is pre-installed Persian Calendar in the OS which appears after the Gregorian date on the AOS and lock screen. I also noticed this extra date appearing on the Samsung Calendar app under the western date, but i don't use this app at all so can easily ignore. The AOS and lock screen is seen all the time and would displays: "MON, JUNE 5 (KHOR 15)". I looked through every settings on the phone and many forums online, and there is no software way to turn this off.
I thought a potential solution would be to replace this stock ROM with another region since any of the multi-CSC OXM firmwares should be compatible with the phone. So I tried to flash another region using Odin. I tried Singapore (SIN and STH) and completely reset/wiped the phone two separate times. However, despite flashing a large (almost 6GB) file onto the phone it still remains in THR when i looked in settings. I guess I misunderstood the purpose of different firmware regions, I thought i would be changing my phone's existing firmware to another region and get a different set of default apps and localization behavior. But the Persian date is still there on all the same screens.
Am I flashing the rom incorrectly? Is there some setting that i omitted that would give me the desired result of a Singapore OS? Any other ways to change CSC and get rid of unwanted parts of a regional firmware?
2) Another problem is when i receive calls on my local sim card, the phone number shows up without the country code, but if i store my numbers (on Google contacts) in "+<country code> <phone number>" format then the contact is not linked to the incoming call.
Apparently this is fairly common with international phones being used in another market. There is a workaround where i can edit my numbers on google to not have any numerical country codes but instead use the flag drop-down menu on google to indicate country associated with the number. I'm ok with that solution but is there another way? Would flashing a regional firmware that is my location solve this? The region that i intend to use the phone is not part of the OXM multi-CSC list of countries since they only sell the snapdragon variant here.
I would like to find solutions that would avoid root and custom roms, but if that is the only option here, i am not against going down that route.
Thanks a lot in advance.
My eventual solution and what i've learned.
So as i described above, i tried to flash many different versions of G950FD or G950F firware with multi-CSC OXM, but never saw my CSC change from THR. Nothing changed on my phone despite installing large files through odin which was always confusing to me. For the record, i tried BTU (UK), STH (Singapore), and SIN (Singapore) which are all part of the OXM.
I learned from another forum that the sim-card installed matters, so i was just trying different non-middle-east regions by picking UK or Singapore but my actual home region does not support this model/cpu variant. I don't have a sim-card from any OXM regions, only Hong Kong and US ones.
Then i found an old Australian (Optus) sim card from a trip and found a G950F firmware version with CSC OPS on Updato. Not part of CSC OXM but same PDA/Phone version and was told it's safe to flash. When i flashed that firmware with the AU sim card installed, i got the AU OS and all the old regional apps were gone. I got some Australian ones but nothing i can't uninstall. My caller ID problem also seem to be fixed. So i consider the problem fixed.
In all of this, the PDA version numbers were always the same (AQDG), so i'm still a bit unclear as to what the CSC file is specifying and doing.
Am i correct to assume that multi-CSC OXM firmware contained regional apps/settings for all the various regions but without a sim card installed to tell it which one to pick, it kept selecting the factory region of THR? And when i flashed the Optus firmware, did i really need the sim-card installed? Would it have changed the firmware to OPS because it's outside the multi-CSC OXM group?
You live in Hong Kong, right ?
I do too, and have a UAE S8, and Samsung Pay doesn't work.
Does your working around things allow you to use Pay, or you get stuck on the splash screen as well ?

Yes i live in HK, so with the AU Optus Firmware I got a AU version of Samsung Pay with all AU ads and suggested businesses. I can get past the splash and login using my normal Samsung Account, which shouldn't have a region. BUT so far i haven't had any success adding any of my HK credit cards, i assume it's a version compatibility issue. There is no way to pick which regional version of Samsung Pay on the Play Store, so i guess it looks at your phone's origin to determine that part of the app.
I am not that keen to use Samsung Pay, but of course interested to know if it is possible. It says to call the banks to get my credit cards added, so maybe there is still a chance and i will post if i do succeed.
Do you think Samsung Pay is particularly good for HK? Would using Android Pay be comparable here? I'm not that experienced with mobile payment apps in the past. Seems like the membership card storage function will still work on my Samsung Pay so at least i have that and can slim down the wallet a bit.
Hey there buddy,
Finally found a thread that represents my problem also, in my case i have a s8 G950FD that shows the same thing on my lockscreen, by me it shows (KHOR18)!
Is there any way around it, i mean a fix?? I would greatly appreciate any help
Yes that's the Iranian calendar date so the day will increment everyday. Khor is abbrev for the current month.
Yes I have a solution (read my second post in thread) but involves flashing with a sim card and 950f or 950fd firmware of the same region as the sim card. You will need to reset and erase phone data.
If you need help flashing stock firmware there is a long thread on this forum and where I found the answer about how the sim card installed might make difference.
What region/sim are you currently trying to use your s8?

Hey there again,
Thank you very much for the time. I am in SE Europe, to be more precise Republic of Kosovo. My SIM is from Kosovo ( we are considered i believe to be in Europe carrier wise)
I do need help flashing the phone as i have no experience whatsoever i just recently switched from Iphone to Samsung, this being said i must also mention the fact that i would definitely need help. I dont want to mess up the phone i just got it like 2 days ago
Things to consider:
- You can flash both 950F and 950FD firmware on your 950FD.
- You need to find your desired firmware. And that region needs to match your sim card, use Updato or SamMobile but the firmware package is a >3GB file and takes a while to download. Make sure you only look for versions for model 950F or FD.
- You will need to download Odin and Samsung usb drivers to flash the firmware onto your phone. Follow the thread "OFFICIAL STOCK Firmware-update (Odin) thread Samsung GALAXY S8 SM-G950F" for the guide.

If you decided to go the "SIM card CSC" method then follow this step by step:
https://www.sammobile.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37711
But I personally think you should do it through flashing a firmware with odin but properly and pay attention to step 6:

Hope they help you resolve your issues.
Good luck.

Yes, if you are changing country/code of CSC, then the system needs to recalculate the partitions.
And don't forget no short cuts! Every step should be done.
Good luck.
ooo man this things is killing me now the problem i have after i have rooted the phone is that the computer wont recognize my phone in download mode ??????????
Hey Peeps,
Small update on how things are for the time being. I have been following all steps as described with odin. P10 lite not receiveing software/firmware updates

Hi, i bought P10 lite october 2017 and after turning on, phone received an firmware update B183.
Since then, phone is not receiveing any other system updates so its current version is: WAS-LX1C432B183, while other WAS-LX1 phones received newer firmware updates.
Any possible solution or ideas about solving this problem, please?
I too seem to be getting no updates either - although I'm 'lucky' enough to be on WAS-LX1AC432B187 even though in another thread here other people are up to B209/B210
I originally suspect it may be all down to Country / Operator / Network ....
Certain Operators (especially in UK) are VPN's that 'rent' airwaves from the main companies (Vodafone/O2/3/EE) & I suspect that when a new firmware is released (by Huawei for example), the big companies then have to modify these to include their bloatware to distribute it > then the VPN's may get their hands on the firmware & add their bloatware before distributing the updates..
Considering my operator is ASDA Mobile, who 'rents' from EE - I suspect EE hasn't passed on the modified firmware to ASDA to distribute (of course I may be totally wrong on how firmwares are distributed)
I admit I have been VERY tempted to attempt Firmwarefinder app to update to a newer firmware (not necessary BETA Oreo), but a little scared as there's SOOooo many firmware updates for my phone & like everything 'new' & never used before - I'm scared I may brick my phone (I can't afford to buy a new £200 each time I bugger something up)
I'm not sure if I can go from B187 straight to B209 (or B210)..
... or do I have to do it in steps (B187/B188 etc)..
.... or do I use the the OTA-MF or the FullOTA-MF version..
.... and why is there a B209 firmware (dated 2018.04.08) that 'newer' than a B210 (dated 2018.04.27) for the same phone

New updates are based on IMEI numbers, operators and country, its true, its weird how you guys didnt receive any updates yet, but after the update is available for your IMEI, operators must distribute update to customers. Was-lx1a, not only oreo beta, official oreo update should be available for your phone, like in Germany, Spain or other countries, they all receive it, B209, B210 are updates for P10 lite, b209 is for single sim model, b210 is for dual sim variant, and dual sim variant receive it after single sim, its the same update, thats only difference. My advise for you is to contact huawei support and maybe they could push updates for your phones through hicare app or somehow.
Greetings

I need to make an observation.
In my daily life i check 2 different P10 Lite phones for updates (both are locked in Vodafone).
So... about the updates, i observed that the availability of the updates is limited to few days, maybe a week. I actually updates one P10 lite and had no time to update the second one. After a week when i tried to update the second phone, the update info in the Update App was there as red text, but it disappeared when i tried to apply it. So i had to wait for the next update to bring both phones to the same version.
So, ya.. try to talk to Huawei using whatever chat system its available to you.

You dont need factory reset on phone, just contact their support in your country. At least, try to do that, I heard they have really bad support.

If you want oreo on your phone try to use hwota method, you will have to unlock bootloader and after you finish you can relock it again. Im not sure if you will lose varanty, more about this method you can read here on xda, just scrool down
WAS-LX1AC432B179 here.
Spoke to an operator today via HiCare / Live chat
"All devices in the UK are scheduled to receive it in the following 8 weeks maximum."
"The update is sent in batches for a certain number of devices and another one and so on."
"I cannot specify an exact date when you will receive it I'm afraid."
8 weeks, how slow they are.
Im not in the UK, but... Who knows, maybe 8 weeks for me either
It isn't uncommon for an update to roll out over several weeks. What's stupid is that you can't force the update yourself with whatever risk it entails.
Hmm, 8 weeks..... guess I'll have to see if I get it or not, before I reconsider doing the Firmwarefinder route
I contacted them recently regarding the Oreo update and they said i should receive the update before the end of July, if not then contact them again

I know your pain - Most carrier networks need to receive a Firmware Approval before rolling it out across their network. It is also likely that it is based of your IMEI Number as well, since that is what Huawei uses to check to see if you are eligible for an update.
I am originally from the UK (O2-UK) that was (at the time) stuck on WAS-LX1AC432B173, now living in Belgium (Proximus/Belgacom) on WAS-LX1AC432B209.
I would highly recommend the Firmware Finder app for using it to update. it allows you to tap on a Firmware and check in advance of updating, wether not not you can (Check Firmware Access -> Check Availability -> Allow it to use your phone for reading IMEI, and it will let you know if its is Approxed for installation, or Not Approved.).
To answer your questions:
NOTE: All of this is from my own experience with Upgrading using Firmware Finder. Highly Recommending making a backup using HiSuite to back up your phone before continuing.
1. You will probably need to do it in steps. B187 -> B191 -> B193 -> B197 -> B203 -> B207 -> B209
2. Always use the FullOTA-MF Versions.
3. Probably for the different variants (Single Sim vrs Dual Sim) like Umri Muki already said.
Hope this helped at all

Thanxs for the feedback.. I think i'll still wait the 8weeks b4 considering...
1 more question (open to all)... How will I know which of these is for single SIM & which is for Dual ?
Both show up as 'approved for installation' & to be honest I'm not 100% sure whether my phone is Single or Dual SIM anyway (brought of Amazon UK so I assume its the European/UK Single SIM model)
I THINK it's single since under Settings > About phone there's only 1 IMEI number shown & I did read that a Dual SIM would show 2 IMEI numbers (or am I mistaken)

Had been stuck on B187 for months, but decided to give Firmware Finder method a go as above, downloading the FullOTA-MF of B191 using the DNS VPN method. Had a few problems with download errors but found another post here that suggested uninstalling any updates to the 'System Update' app. That seemed to work and update started downloading VERY SLOWLY. Left it overnight and finally got the update to install after a couple of reboots. Once B191 was on, phone seems to be able to pick other updates automatically. Has picked up B193 itself and now is just installing B197. Hopefully, it will get to B209.
Phone is a SIM Free UK version bought from Carphone Warehouse.

Update -- seems to have stopped an B197 so will try B203 via Firmware Finder

It can be either one. You will only be able to check if you have a single sim, or dual sim device, by checking if you have one, or two, IMEI numbers in Settings > About phone.

So at least I'm 90% sure I have a single sim phone BUT there's post that state I COULD make it Dual sim if I wanted

you sure? then what is the X is LX1A for? 0 for single sim and 2 for dual sim. so L01A is single sim and L21A is dual sim.
