[how to] Enable fingerprint gestures - Honor 8 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

So while I found this using my honor 8 (which is stone dead btw) I found it very interesting and had to apply it on my new honor 8 pro.
I post it here since many people might find this come in handy
So while I was playing around with M10 prop files I discovered a nice find.
This is how to enable fingerprint gestures which was introduced in EMUI 5.1 and for thus device which has front fingerprint sensor. (includes honor magic)
!NOTE! This has been tested on Honor 8 and P9 running EMUI 5.0.1 and it might not work on older versions such as B389 or B391!

Magisk module
https://mega.nz/#!qlhjzZTS!lhyd9r-_Lbr2enFyXpIR1ObVsYt8JwjPKWVfJ5y_fXM
Let's begin:
Navigate to product/etc/prop/local.prop
And add this two lines
[email protected]:
ro.config.hw_front_fp_navi=true
ro.config.hw_front_fp_trikey=0
Edit if you want to have both fingerprint gestures AND softunavigation keys enabled set trikey=0 to 1
This should be between
####### 7.PRODUCT INFO BEGIN
####### 7.PRODUCT INFO END
Else it most likely might not be enabled
Once added reboot to see changes. Navigate to settings > navigation key and select the top to enable gestures.
Now you can enjoy full screen without navigation keys
This will let you use
Home: tap and hold on sensor
Back: tap on sensor
Recent: swipe left or right to open recent

But unfortunately using the fingerprint sensor at back for navigating through is not at all comfortable compared to fingerprint sensor at front. IMO.
But thanks for this. Someone may find this useful.

Even I find this sensor on back better than in front. Even the front cam use is better thay way. And dragging notification panel is easier from back sensor. Only thing better in front sensor is you can unlock the phone without picking the phone or checking the notification on lock screen.

I don't use FP gestures at all as the FP sensor is placed a bit higher for me to normally use it.

Fingerprint scanner emulate home button?

Is there any way to make my fingerprint scanner into a capacitive button when the phone is already unlocked? Google turned up some options that say there are apps for Samsung devices, but anything for the axon?
Yes you can. There is an app here on xda apps called Fingerprint quick action. I already have it installed and default action is to toggle notification bar. Home is also an option.

What's your hit to battery life?
None, I still get more than 6hrs of screen time (2 days of use).

That app works beautifully, thank you!
Just to throw my own thread off topic, is anyone else surprised that we're creaming the pixel for onscreen time?

Amazing app. I hope in the future it can be set to Back button functionality so it'd be easier to use the Axon at night. I'm still having a hard time pressing Back or Recent capacitive buttons in the dark.

I'm using the Pie Control app for that - so I don't even have to stretch my thumb down to the bottom of the screen, just swipe in from either bezel. I'm gonna try the Fingerprint Quick Action app - but what happens when you accidentally brush the sensor as your fingers are fumbling around the back of the phone like my fingers often do?

The Pie Control app from the Play store only needs root if you're using some of the special functions (menu) - it works just fine without root.
Also I set this app to turn off with the scanner and don't have problems until I play games and have to move my hands around the back of the phone a bunch. Was frustrating to keep having my screen turn off in the middle of Asphalt 8. Maybe there's a way to make a quick toggle widget for gaming mode?

It's available in Nougat
available in nougat.. if u can't wait use fingerprint quick a action in XDA
Gravitybox
You can use gravitybox to lock your phone using fingerprint. It is available in Nougat, but if you're on MM, and can't wait, install xposed framework, install gravitybox module, and under fingerprint settings, you can set an action for each finger you've configured. One of them can be set to lock the screen.
On 7.1 im using the fp sensor as home button and set up double tap to turn off screen. Maybe it's available on some cm13 builds too?

Provided you're on the stock Nougat ROM, and you've got your fingerprints set up, head to Settings>Security. Under 'Device Security', tap the gear icon next to Screen Lock. There on the Screen Lock Settings, you'll have an option to long press the fingerprint sensor to lock your screen.
(This is present on Nougat v7.0 NPJS25.93-14.4, I think it's present on earlier Nougat builds).
Custom ROMs likely have their own method of locking with the fingerprint sensor or with the soft home button.
This will help

Screenshot delay with Nougat

After the nougat update, taking a screenshot is no longer instant like it was on 6.0.1 You need to press and hold power down for a second before the action is triggered. I happen to take a lot of screenshots, and find it annoying/inconvenient. Does anyone else share the same?
Is any dev here able to port the screenshot utility from 6.0 to 7.1.1?
@DrakenFX @Unjustified Dev any inputs? If any files are needed, I'm still on 6.0.1 and can help you with those.
Others feel free to chime in as well!
Thanks.
It's not lag. Now it required to press and hold both buttons.
I have no idea why they changed this but on LineageOS it's the same.
I know that it's not lag. On 6.0.1, it was modified by ZTE to not require to press and hold. Just a short press of both the buttons would trigger a screenshot, which made it extremely convenient. I want to have the same functionality on 7.1.1. I don't think it'll be a big task to change that, but I don't really know how to

I've still got it on 7.1.1(MiFavor4.2) A2017.
Also I just need to press both buttons to take a screenshot not holding them.
I'm also running 7.1.1, MiFavor 4.2.15. But 3 finger pinch doesn't do anything.
In Marshmallow they used to have a Settings menu for the pinch to screenshot feature. That has been removed entirely. Searching for screenshot has no results in the settings search.

[GUIDE]Lock Device with Fingerprint Sensor

Hello everybody, in my very first thread at XDA ill share how to lock your device with fp sensor
IM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR PHONE SO ALWAYS MAKE BACKUPS!!!
Just because it worked for me doesnt means it will work for you, but go ahead if youre confident.
Tested on Rn3 Pro SD 3/32 Kenzo with fpc sensor
>>>>>FPC SENSOR<<<<<
I DONT HAVE DEVICE WITH GOODIX SO THE STEPS MAY DIFFER
My phone:
Rom RR by movzx 29/09 build NOUGAT
Agni kernel 10.9
Youll need:
Kenzo (lol)
Fpc fingerprint sensor
Text editor(any)
Root
Using your favorite text editor open the following file
/system/usr/keylayout/uinput-fpc.kl
MAKE A BACKUP OF IT FIRST JUST IN CASE
Find key 96, depending on your rom it will be like this
#key 96 CAMERA
Simply remove the # symbol and change CAMERA to SLEEP so it looks like
key 96 SLEEP
Reboot your phone
Voila!
Your phone will lock when you tap the fp sensor!
REVERT CHANGES WHEN YOU NEED TO ADD NEW FINGERPRINT AS IT WILL LOCK PHONE AS SOON AS YOU TAKE YOUR FINGER OFF THE SENSOR.
Xda app bugged and made 2 threads, somebody please remove the other
Thanks
You don't have to create new thread for it. Because you just used same method of mine. You could post your work on my thread also.. Let's not spam here!

You can do that with fingerprint security disabled and replacing SLEEP command with WAKEUP or POWER.
Try at your own risk! Although I have not tested this personally with FP security disabled, it works with a snappy tap on the sensor before it scans my finger when FP security is enabled.
Thanks man, works great !!!!

Nice guide ! but i think its better to stay with camera because the angle while taking selfie will be better when we use fp as capture button. To sleep device there are lots of methods that custom roms are offering like double tap on status bar to sleep etc.
Will it work also in MM LN13 rom ?

Is there Moto type fingerprint swipe for Essential?

Question to the collective.
In going full immersive i have been trying to find and app the uses the finger print sensor.
My other phone is a Moto Z4 play .
Motorola has the this kind of immersive mode where the nav butons are hid, but the fingerprint sensor gains functionality.
Swipe left go back.
swipe right go to running apps
tap Fingerprint sensor and goes home.
I use the fingerprint sensor to swipe down notifications, but want toi have the moto z4 type functionality.
I have tried multiple apps to the fingerprint sensor and they all dont work. any direction that i can be pointed would be appreciateed.
Thanks

The beta will not allow you to have OTA updates just so you know if you are going to go thru with it. And the app doesn't have tap for home, but you can swipe up or down for that.
