[GUIDE]Lock Device with Fingerprint Sensor - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello everybody, in my very first thread at XDA ill share how to lock your device with fp sensor
IM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR PHONE SO ALWAYS MAKE BACKUPS!!!
Just because it worked for me doesnt means it will work for you, but go ahead if youre confident.
Tested on Rn3 Pro SD 3/32 Kenzo with fpc sensor
>>>>>FPC SENSOR<<<<<
I DONT HAVE DEVICE WITH GOODIX SO THE STEPS MAY DIFFER
My phone:
Rom RR by movzx 29/09 build NOUGAT
Agni kernel 10.9
Youll need:
Kenzo (lol)
Fpc fingerprint sensor
Text editor(any)
Root
Using your favorite text editor open the following file
/system/usr/keylayout/uinput-fpc.kl
MAKE A BACKUP OF IT FIRST JUST IN CASE
Find key 96, depending on your rom it will be like this
#key 96 CAMERA
Simply remove the # symbol and change CAMERA to SLEEP so it looks like
key 96 SLEEP
Reboot your phone
Voila!
Your phone will lock when you tap the fp sensor!
REVERT CHANGES WHEN YOU NEED TO ADD NEW FINGERPRINT AS IT WILL LOCK PHONE AS SOON AS YOU TAKE YOUR FINGER OFF THE SENSOR.

Xda app bugged and made 2 threads, somebody please remove the other
Thanks

You don't have to create new thread for it. Because you just used same method of mine. You could post your work on my thread also.. Let's not spam here!

No, this feature is not available. In miui official roms the device wakes up (and unlocks) only if a registered fingerprint is recognised.

You can do that with fingerprint security disabled and replacing SLEEP command with WAKEUP or POWER.
Try at your own risk! Although I have not tested this personally with FP security disabled, it works with a snappy tap on the sensor before it scans my finger when FP security is enabled.

Thanks man, works great !!!!

Remove system/usr/idc/uinput-fpc.idc
Only remove the bolded one. The other are just the location. Cut it and place it on your sd card or somewhere as backup then reboot.

Nice guide ! but i think its better to stay with camera because the angle while taking selfie will be better when we use fp as capture button. To sleep device there are lots of methods that custom roms are offering like double tap on status bar to sleep etc.

Will it work also in MM LN13 rom ?

We hope the issues will be fixed soon
Mine stopped working and I got it working again by turning the onscreen buttons on and off, as well as the double tap to wake, both in settings....then restarted.
A bit unscientific but did the job.
Have a look at the other post, there is a good alternative camera app to download from xda.

Double tap to wake is a great battery drain. It keeps the screen powered up all the time. Is it that hard to stick a finger on a sensor. If you can't make it work and want it there are tap to wake apps

Open Camera is far better than the stock one. The first thing I did was swap.

Dttw does keep the screen on! Do you see the back light? It is just a part of the touch layer managed by the kernel. It should have a minimal impact on battery life and does not prevent deep sleep.

I guess is a mith.. i have DTTW enabled and livedisplay enabled too and no have problems at all. 2 Sims, 5 mail accounts, DISA and Whatsapp working and i have more than a full day (if i downlevel my activities battery last almost 2 full days).
Not required double tap on MM ZUI
Double tap features is not required anymore for me, because the newer ZUI marshmallow version they have fixed the problem with direct unlock from the home key without pressing.
I mean same like Nexus devices.

Nope, as far as I know, zuk use the same layout that opo uses, one cable for screen and another for touch. After that it's handled by kernel and don't have almost any impact in battery life

Using fingerprint Lock for just apps

Hello
Is it possible on the Nexus 6p to use the finger print scanner to unlock apps with the finger print scanner on the phone without using it to lock the phone and having to setup the PIN lock?
If you mean that you'd like to have an app that locks certain apps and unlock it with the fingerprint scanner, you should try FingerSecurity. You can set which apps are locked by the app and you can then use the fingerprint scanner to unlock them.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rickclephas.fingersecurity&hl=en
You can join the Beta to get Nexus 6P support. Works great.
and without any app?
just using the F.P to wake the screen up or lock it?

I don't understand what are you saying.
With Nexus 6P you just have to touch the fingerprint sensor without touching any button and the screen will wake.
Android doesn't have a functionality to put a fingerprint lock to open a certain app. For that you will have to use the link above.
i wish, but

in order to activate FP, it demands another locking feature.
i'd upload a screenshot, but it's not in english

Yes and that is how it works with every device ever.
No device will allow you to have only fingerprint security (if you mean that you want to make it impossible to unlock your phone without your f.p) because modern (6.0+) Android phones would be thrown into the garbage if your f.p. sensor stops working properly. (the system encryption will be fu*ked cause it requires a pin)

It says: fp with linw/password/code.
No option for "just" fp.
Android 7.1.1
Just like what was said above, there is no option for just fingerprint. You need to have a backup way of unlocking your device. So if you get your fingers chopped off, fingerprint sensor fails, etc. you could still unlock your phone with a pin/password/pattern.

just the FP isn't enough

It's available in Nougat
available in nougat.. if u can't wait use fingerprint quick a action in XDA
Gravitybox
You can use gravitybox to lock your phone using fingerprint. It is available in Nougat, but if you're on MM, and can't wait, install xposed framework, install gravitybox module, and under fingerprint settings, you can set an action for each finger you've configured. One of them can be set to lock the screen.

Provided you're on the stock Nougat ROM, and you've got your fingerprints set up, head to Settings>Security. Under 'Device Security', tap the gear icon next to Screen Lock. There on the Screen Lock Settings, you'll have an option to long press the fingerprint sensor to lock your screen.
(This is present on Nougat v7.0 NPJS25.93-14.4, I think it's present on earlier Nougat builds).
Custom ROMs likely have their own method of locking with the fingerprint sensor or with the soft home button.
This will help

Turn off your phone, hold volume up and power, when you get to the screen when there's some Chinese text with recovery, download, fastboot options. Select the one option that has Chinese text that looks like a "±" symbol, it's in the third or second line from top maybe and you'll see device sensor info, there you'll find out if you have a Goodix scanner or an FPC one.
Good luck
