Is the network issue solved? - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

I am planning to buy this phone by next week but saw a lot of users complaining about its 4g or some other network issue. Is it really bad? As its an Android One series, I am sure they will release some or other patch to fix this. Is the problem solved yet?
I am aware of the amazing specs of this phone but what are the flaws which needs to be looked upon before purchasing? Experienced reviews would be appreciated!
Thanks!

i live in Hyderabad using this since phone since 18th of september.
i won't lie but this october update has made the 4G signals on my phone much better than before [rock stable right now] before used to get 2 bars of 4G network but now it's full
i don't know about people living in other regions but I'm using Airtel 4G on my primary sim slot.

Good to hear that buddy! Thanks for replying. Updates can surely fix issues. Planning to buy this soon! Hows the battery life? Is 3080 mah enough for a normal user? Does it lasts for a day? I am mostly a wifi guy!

The network issues have been solved & the battery backup has also improved..attaching my SOT & Battery backup

Not for me...in UK, on Three
I've had the October update (1Gb+) but my 'global version' Mi A1 unit still won't connect to 4G LTE bands 3 & 20 on Three in the UK, which are listed in the specs as supported.
I've tried other providers and both SIM slots - it never connects to LTE. My Moto G5S Plus does, first time, every time.
My Xioami Mi A1 is going back to China...

Good to know buddy! I just bought this phone yesterday. It will be delivered tomorrow. Damn excited!
I read a lot of other reviews from other users who said that the October update solved the network issues. Thank god! I think this is one of the best features of having an Android One device. We will be getting updates every now and then so all the bugs will be fixed anyway. Thanks for replying. :good:

Just recieved my A1 and I am in love!!

Its been quite amazing bro! All the bugs have been fixed with regular monthly updates and I didnt experienced any lag yet. The battery performance surely depends on your usage. It was a bit weird after the october update but became better after the november update. The best feature is obviously the camera. The pics come out totally stunning. Especially the portrait ones. This phone is the best under 20k budget. And I heard its gonna be available for just 13k in an upcoming Flipkart sale. Being an Android one device, they should have released Oreo way before others but there has been a little delay. It has disappointed some users but as promised, it will be released by the end of this month. So eagerly waiting for it now! I am damn sure the phone will get a lot better after Oreo!

Most welcome buddy! Go ahead and enjoy your A1 experience.

I bought the phone over the eBay, as new but opened box. I never had any problem with it, just sometimes i don't get Network at all until and unless i restart my mobile, this has happened twice so far. Now I have a good signal, of course is not stable, it is fluctuating.
I do not think that is a hardware issue.

is network issue fixed? I am planning to buy this phone

After few weeks of normal daily use I haven't found any issues with network switching.
I travel a quite a lot and switching between 3G and 4G/LTE haven't failed as far as I can see.

so many updates coming for the s6

each time i find a new thread/problem theres usually somebody whos talked to samsung and been told itll be fix in a update. thats gotta be a ton of update just to get a working phone.
so far i have read
always on flash
radio/antanna on verizon models getting no/bad lte signal with dropped calls
screen rotation not working
screen problems
phones getting too hot
and im sure i missed some
while one big update would be nicer that would prbly take forever to release
I havent got any of these issues. (International SGS6)
Usually people that aren't happy with something complain/make noise and those that are happy don't create a load of threads ergo it looks like people are unsatisfied with their SGS6 whereas its probably the complete opposite.

Nope my flash isn't on either.... UK phone.
My flash stays on randomly. No other issues except cell standby draining the heck out of my battery. Tmobile s6.
well thats confusing, is samsung lying about the update then?

I'm wondering if it's a WiFi Direct / Quickconnect bug. If I turn off WiFi, it's much better on LTE.

im not complaining about updates, more so that the phone needs so many to function properly
you can see yourself on xda that the verizon model is having signal problems (drops to 3g in areas where theres strong 4g signal) and that it requires on update to fix that.
my s6 arrives monday so ill double check.
ive played with a display model and the phone is great its just the software problems
Got the t-mobile S6 and my phone is not having any of these problems, i freakin' LOVE this phone!
I did have a battery drain problem, after rooting it would not go into deep sleep mode. Simply rebooted to stock recovery, wiped cache, problem solved!
I've been an extremely heavy user since getting this phone and have had my screen on emailing/playing games/reddit browsing/texting/etc for 6+ hours a day. Since wiping cache, my battery holds like a champ. When the screen is off, it uses close to zero battery...maybe .5% per hour. Usually end up going to bed with around 20% battery left.
Could not be happier.

Well if you look at IOS, it also gets a lot of update to either fix things or improve things. The iPhone 6 came out with IOS 8 but there I already 8.4 in the works I the works, that just how it goes. I dont mind updates at all, even 3 a day if it is to improve the device. Better that than no updates.
I understand your point though, you think Samsung should have thoroughly tested the S6 before release but for example, things like carrier bloatware and cell reception is out of Samsung hands.

its not a tower or antena issure, is a software issue that samsung says its aware of. people who alrdy have a verizon s6 are dropping calls and just in general having worst reception than a S4 did.
what carrier gets 3 updates a day?
im on verizon where they have a record of giving their updates later than other carriers.
i dont mind good updates, its just from the time it takes for you to receive a update fix you have to be with a phone that has problems

You're talking about the Verizon one as if its the only version of the galaxy s6, I'm talking about all versions in general. None are getting 3 a day to my knowledge, but that was an example that even if it's 3 a day to improve the phone then I wouldn't mind.
Being early adopters we have to accept that there will be issues with any launch. Many of these problems don't present themselves until they are in the hands of the masses. Things like battery drain from cell standby or WiFi and poor signal maintenance are definitely YMMV type of situations as we've seen here in the forums. If the testers don't use WiFi and live in strong signal areas then they may not experience any of those problems

There is also certain amount of fault on the carriers be cause they go through and modify/gut the original software.
Who cares about software problems can be fixed with an update.
Real issue here is hardware defects like pink tint and scratched screens that cannot be fixed and only choice is to return phone and pay restocking fee.

true but I guess at least someone could return it for a fix while software will be bugged until a fix comes out which no one knows how long that will take. Even with the issues I freaking love this phone!
why do u have to pay a restocking fee? you got a defective phone.

According to Android Police: "Verizon Is Rolling Out An OTA To The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Tomorrow, May 6".
This was posted on May 5.
So, unless my calendar is wrong, the update should be coming today.
Has anyone received the update? I tried and it says the phone is up to date, but still has the Feb security.
I just got it at 10:33am MDT (Utah). I'll report back tomorrow around the same time if I can.
I had HORRIBLE battery life with Wifi turned on (<10h total with maybe 2h screen on time), but I pay for 18GB plan so there wasn't really a need for wifi anyway and that helped my battery life tremendously.
I'll turn wifi on and report back tomorrow.
Have you tried Smart WiFi Toggler? It learns where and when you want to connect.
The update just became available in the KC market. Any reason not to take it?

Yes, can't assess anything on the battery life yet.
The one odd thing I experienced was it copied the calendar icon from My Knox home screen to my normal home screen (left the one in My Knox fine). No idea what that was about but my deleting it might come back to bite me later - will report if it does.

when you use double tap to sleep gesture, and wake it up, it won't let you unlock with your fingerprint anymore. it makes you use the damn pin or pattern too.

Recommend Custom ROM

Just downloaded Resurrection Remix and have to say I'm liking it a bit better than stock oxegen OS there are so many features and settings to get everything just how you like it! Seems to aslo support OTA (Not sure if that's just for android or the ROM updates as well) if you know please let me know! But anyone looking for a ROM check it out it's easy to install runs stable and butter smooth!
this thread will get flooded with this recommendation so ill post it as first reply:
FreedomOS. Hands down the best rom out there. Nothing compares to stock. Lineage has so many issues even on "Stable" builds. the one that annoys me most is the random throttling of my mobile data speed. Never been on LineageOS for more than 3 days.

I mean I am on wifi most of the time and twitter and email load the same on 3G as they do LTE so I'll take the super fast powerful phone that is 100% customizable over a phone that's limited just to have LTE. As far as paying for service I'm not paying anything I'm on a business plan and pay nothing. If I ever switch off of that I'll go with a gsm carrier to get full support.

I havent. I dont really care to swap off freedomos for anything else. Its usually buggy junk. Phone works dont fix it. I too shopped around like you to find a rom with better battery life but to no avail. If these roms do save you battery then it's a couple extra minutes at best. Doesn't make it worth all the flaws. Freedomos is just stock but you dont have to install all the google crap.

Buy now recommended?

I bought essential phone couple of months ago and was thoroughly disappointed because of several reasons, battery drain, call quality issues and very bland software too bare for my liking also it was well overpriced.
Now that price has dropped and have an opportunity for buying for far less. However I would like to ask current buyers if the same issues I mentioned above are still prevalent? Would you recommend buying this over other similar priced phones around £420
Thanks for your help

I bought mine during the black friday promotion (phone + free camera) for $157 including paid off lease and purchase option from Sprint. I also got a free 360 camera delivered last week. I sideloaded the Oreo beta 2 firmware from Essential website and I can tell you that it is much...much better than before. Try it yourself and find out!
If you're complaining about bland software then you should probably skip it.
It is still essentially stock Android.
(Which is why I bought it)
But everything else is working great for me. Cell reception is equal to my Op5, haven't had any complaints about call quality and battery life is incredible
This battery life is best of any Android I've had

I bought mine 3 weeks ago, went straight to Oreo beta, and update via OTA to beta 2. Even within those 3 weeks, huge improvements were made. I am absolutely happy with this phone, and I am coming from a Oneplus One (which was my favorite phone ever).

I've never encountered those problems, but I believe the Oreo beta fixed those that were Nougat problems. Also on T-Mobile, and it's signal is easily as good if not better than my Oneplus One.

The signal seemed just lower than few of my phone that I compared it with. In a good area there are no issues, in an area with not ideal reception, Essential gets even lower signal. I am thinking about Oreo Beta, but if Essential releases it within a week, then there is no point in getting the beta.
I am VERY happy with my phone.
Call quality has been pretty good on Oreo beta 2. Haven't had any dropped calls or other issues. Battery has improved on Oreo. I can easily go all day and get 5-6 hrs SoT. The software is pretty much the same stock Android experience. It's not for everyone but I usually go for phones with stock or near stock Android (Moto X Pure, Nexus 6, 5x, 6P, OP3T). I've really enjoyed the PH-1 but it still might not be the right phone for you.

I have also read many threads where users report that factory reset fixed glitches which were a result of Oreo beta sideload. Do you know which issues could occur from Oreo beta?

Most of us who chose this phone did so for the stock experience. (bland software) as you put it.
Being thoroughly disappointed and getting it again is like remarrying your ex lol.
I do not have any issues with call quality or battery drain and I paid about 150US. for a new sprint unlocked version.
Knowing this, paying 420 might still make it seem too expensive for you in the end.
Ebay and swappa here in the US are selling these things cheap not sure about the UK though.
With all the sprint phones out there the value on resale will be minimal.

Interesting...good to know.
I have also read many threads where users report that factory reset fixed glitches which were a result of Oreo beta sideload. Do you know which issues could occur from Oreo beta?

I was just experiencing issues where I could not swipe my brightness slider and then trying to touch on the side of it would activate one if my quick settings, also my phone's visual voicemail wasn't working but everything was back to normal and haven't had any problems since I factory reset the phone

I just sideloaded Oreo 2 beta and when it finished, the phone booted properly. I started to play with it, but after about 10 min, phone rebooted and was in that reboot state(spinning dots) for about 5 min, then booted properly. There is no indication what has caused that, but for now the phone seems normal. I have Pebble app running and notification shade shows "Pebble is running in the background" and I am trying to remove that notification, but haven't found a way to do that just yet.

Android 8 update issue

Hi guys,
I bought a htc u ultra when I was living in Australia but early this year I moved to Sweden. Now my issue is that android 8 is out, but my phone can't find the ota update. How come? I have received other ota updates in Sweden but the oreo update will not be found. Is there a way I can get it pushed to the phone?
I've contacted htc, but they are bloody useless, they just tell me to contact Google which I can't even find a email address or anything for help.
Hoping some bright spark can help me.
No help for you. Your device CID is for Australia and for this region the update is not yet released.
So why couldn't the retard at htc just tell me that? I swear they have the worst customer support ever. Told them this is my last htc mobile

Like they care about you. Statistically you got yourself a budget phone that is pretending to be of premium level. That means your next purchase will be in 2-3 years.
I'm blunt but that is life. I made my decision of getting this piece knowing there is almost no community and is already forgotten by manufacturer. It was cheap so I didn't care if I brick it by customizing. It the moment I'm working on a dirty port of LineageOS to it so I won't rely on HTC (unless I hit the kernel issues). If succeed I might consider sharing it bit wider.
But anyway - don't get too emotional. There is literally nothing that great with Oreo to get angry over. You could actually flash the LeDroid 2.1. It has been reported to work with Nougat backbone. So you get Oreo with Nougat Radio and Kernel. But then really say bye to HTC direct updates if they ever happen.

HTC contacted me via social media to inform me that as of today, May 31st, the Android 8.0 Oreo update is available for HTC U Ultra phones purchased outright in Australia! Mine updated to 2.21.710.3 today.

Then I suggest you to make TWRP copy of the system partition just after upgrade and share it with @LeeDroid so he could update his custom ROM also for Australia.
I just got the upgrade too - I can't believe how laggy it is now.
Haven't performed a reset yet, hoping it will clear up after a few days.
Extremely disappointed...
Battery seems *slightly* better however!

I did a factory reset and first few weeks was ok - much better than on nugat. But now after two month of use I see that slowdowns and lags are more common. Especially when the phone gest worm it can literatury stars to crawl.
Actually I'm thinking to upgrade to U11
Update: the battery is absolutely shocking now.
Tested it yesterday, left on a table after charging all night to 100%
Screen turned on twice throughout the day and after 6 hours and 25 minutes it's at 1% and the power off warning is shown.
Spoke to HTC support who have ignored my last 3 messages so won't be getting a HTC phone again.
Absolutely ridiculous.
Was a fantastic phone after first purchasing it (first 3 months) but now after 6 months - shocking

Did you try a factory reset?
Or check e.g. gsam batters stats from play store and have a look at doze/active stats or warlocks and so on, mostly there is an app (or system) running in background and consuming battery

Yep,
it's been reset 3 times so far.
I did have a look at gsam, what a great application - thanks!
Have a bunch of wakelocks - mainly around Google Fitness (I definitely don't use it) and a bunch of wifi 'wlan rx wakelock' too so currently troubleshooting that,
One thing I did notice however - on attempting to clear the cache partition, I have some notes in the 'recovery mode' screen
"handle_cota_install install cwpkg to /cache/cota/cwpkg.zip
handle_cota_install install cwprop to /cache/cota/cw.prop
E: cant open /sys/class/power_supply/battery/capacity
handle_cota_install: Cant mount /sdcard"
That battery one doesn't sound very promising.... perhaps that is one of the reasons why? The phone doesn't know what size battery is installed because it can't read the capacity configuration file?
I'm not rooted so I can't check to see if it's present myself
zzz
HTC should fix this sort of thing - i'm not sending it away to get looked at/reflashed for 3 weeks
Remove/never update the google app
