Something to improve about the App lock feature on Huawei Honor 8 Pro - Honor 8 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello,
I am really enjoying the snappy performance and the gorgeous 2k display of Honor 8 Pro. The Finger print sensor is super fast and very accurate.
But there is one thing that bothers me about this device, that is the app lock.
While the app lock technically functions perfectly, there is one minute flaw in the whole process.
When you open a locked app. The app loads up first and then after a fraction of a second, the app lock pops up.
This means the app's screen is exposed/ visible for a moment before the app lock screen shows up.
While it does not allow anyone to access the locked app in anyway it does still allow them to peek at it momentarily.
It can be easily exploited with screen shots or screen recording feature in case of apps like Gallery, video or notes etc. defeating the purpose of the lock.
I was using a Redmi Note 3 previously which has similar feature but it would always draw up the lock screen before the app screen.
Please see below what I am talking about.

I hope this gets fixed as it looks sloppy as well.

I agree with you. In addition to your suggestion, i would also like to have an option to have lock on settings menu. I do not want someone who i have given my phone for some work to fiddle around. Additionally, the top drawer should also be lockable when the phone is locked.

The answer for this is a 3rd party app lock.

I checked in my Honor 8 Pro, it is working fine. initially it is having that 1 second delay while we are using Passcode for opening AppLock, then if we enabled the fingerprint association with that AppLock then it becomes fine. No 1 second delay. it is working super fine for me.:good:

No. Thurparty app will further burden system. It's best to improve the integrated app. Look at the Mi's lock app for instance. Also the unlcok animation is slow can be done away with.

i'm using it with fingerprint sensor and yes, that does happen -- i can see like 1 second of the apps before the lock screen appear.

Has anyone tried Lockbot Pro?

There seems to be a quite nice lockscreen app on the market - Lockbot Pro which costs $3.5! It has several lockscreen styles that
you can use and it includes the iphones as well. Quite amazing! But.. while most of the feedbacks are great but some say it breaks
the notification bar and lags when locking or does not lock at all(mostly on G1 and Droid.).
So if anyone here actually tried it on the Desire please tell me how it performs. very much appreciated!
I've tried the free version and its pretty good apart from one major issue.........the Home button is still active!!!
When the phone is locked the Home button will wake the phone up without a lock screen. Once this has been fixed then it will be well worth $3.50
I have the Lockbot Pro 1.3 on my HTC Desire and it works fine but you can´t disable the home button ;(
I tried it, and here's my take:
Full lock replacement, lots of looks and plenty of themes. Choose your own background image. You can choose weither or not to have the notification bar on lockscreen, and if you do you can access it the same way as when you're in home.
The lag is there, but nothing major. Basically if you lock and unlock within half a sec, you'll notice the lag. As long as you lock, leave it, and unlock later (normal usage) there's no problem.
I don't think it shows album info, sms or even alarms on the lockscreen.... But I didn't really pay attention to this because:
My biggest issue is that its an app, not a lockscreen, so it gives you NO security at all. The main reason why i do not use lockbot is that I need a security pattern.
This one bypasses androids security lock, but has its own built in version which is ok. You can choose either code or pattern.
BUT the problem is that you can hit home and you bypass all security! Whats the point of security if you can bypass it??
Hit home and lock gone, security or not.
Also another issue is that security pattern delay app doesn't work. I want security to kick in after 30 min...
You can wake screen with all buttons, which is nice, but no exclude function. (I dont wanna wake it with volume buttons..)
If lockbot adds security delay timer and makes sure you cannot bypass it no matter what, and also adds an option to chose which buttons to wake screen with, it would be the best app out there.
ATM i think it stinks (reason: security), but thats just my 2 cents
newest
I just tried the newest version. I think they fixed the home button thing. But it's kinda hard choosing a background for it. (and it's not so smooth as the default lock)
Home button bug is finally fixed.
But it really sucks that I'm in a country where I can't dowload paid apps. Is there any other lib where I can BUY! it?
Anyone who knows if I would be able to download it if I would go to the Netherlands?

the only disadvantage is that its not locking on incoming call

anybody know how to reach the developer to check if this is planned or not?

I currently use WidgetLocker - it allows you to set different styled lockscreens (e.g. vanilla stock, vanilla rotary, etc) and even add widgets to the lockscreen.
Cool app imo

Disable "second" lock screen in EUI

I hate lock screens so I disable them. If the fingerprint reader were better I'd seriously consider using it to unlock the phone, but it isn't.
My problem now is the "second" lock screen on this phone. Not sure if this is an andorid thing or an EUI thing, since I haven't used android 6.0+ before.
Essentially, I need my home screen to appears when I click the power button. Is that possible? If so, what setting am I missing to disable this screen with the time and camera icon on it?
What is this SECOND LOCK SCREEN?
What issues are you having with Fingerprint? Mine has worked flawlessly.
You have already disabled the block screen on the phone?

So it turns out its just the regular lock screen. The best I can seem to do is set the auto-lock to 30 minutes - this is the maximum time out. This is better, but I want NO lock screen. Does anyone know if this is possible? Some setting I am missing?
I dunno about the fingerprint reader. I'm no apple fan boy but I have to use one for work, and the fingerprint reader on apple devices is far superior, so I'm spoiled with my expectations. The better solution for me is to just get rid of the lock screen.

Ahem the FP of Le Pro 3 or any Android phone out there is far superior because you can unlock the phone even if the screen is off.
Can't find a setting either; if set to none you still have to slide up the lock screen. Other phones I've had remove it all together if set to none.
Finger print sensor on mine seems fine, so i just use that.
Freezing 'System Interface 6.0.1' in Titanium gets rid of lock screen, but has some serious side effects.

This worked for me:
After pressing Power or scanning Finger Print the ``Second Lock Screen´´ pops up, don´t slide to unlock or press any of the icons or ads, instead look for three little pale white dots on upper left corner of display, (they are hard to notice with some wallpapers, specially the included on the phone wallpapers) almost like the ones in some browsers to deploy a menu, press that, and the Locker app should pop up asking you if you want to disable it, press Disable and that should do it!
If you can´t see them try setting a lock screen wallpaper that has solid dark colors on the upper part of the screen.
I don't understand the problem but I've been using this for 1 year

Hide the iris scanner camera when unlocking?

Hi everyone, I was wondering if it were possible to hide seeing my face when using the iris scanner, I think it would look more neat.
I know you can activate the iris scanner as soon as you wake up the phone but I set the home button to automatically unlock (since I use smart lock and that makes it very convenient) so when I press the home button it'll instantly go to the unlock screen where the front cam is activated.
OK I guess I could use the power button instead but I was wondering if there's a way with the home button. Thanks!
Mine is intermittent as to when it does show the camera view. Most of the time it will just come up with a line of text saying look here for iris scanning and I'm never quite sure where I'm supposed to actually be looking.

You should be watching towards the top of the screen near the grid, you should do this even before turning the screen on and it's faster and more accurate
If you look at the red light left hand corner it's unlocks instantly
Yeah its not too bad, i wear glasses so is a bit of a pain sometimes it works through them most of time it doesn't. I might try and get used to doing that "guess where the fingerprint scanner is without putting your finger all over the camera lense" manoeuvre.
I meant why does it *sometimes* come up with the camera viewfinder - does yours *always* come up with the camera viewfinder?
It shows the camera when the unlock isn't instant, or this is what I noticed, just wanted to hide that for a sleeker look

Not an answer but an option. You can go into Settings>Lock screen and security>Iris Scanner>Preview screen mask
There's some goofy masks but maybe there is one that might preset a "sleeker" look for you.

Yep I know about that, that makes everything even worse imo Ahah the main problem to the "sleeker look" is that the camera is super low res, I don't know just feel it's useless but u guess there's no way to get rid of it
I got exactly same question !
That things is pure ugly in term of design and aesthetic, LoL
Hopefully someone can found a way to permanently hide that visual
To unlock your S8 or S8+ with your iris without seeing the camera preview go to:
Settings => Lock screen and security => Iris Scanner
... and turn on the very last option called "Iris unlock when screen turns on".

But we already know and use that option indeed.
But sometimes, we want to jnlock the phone on the table, when its not facing our face, thus we slide up the lock screen,
And then, bam, those ugly visual appear above the PIN number pad. LoL
Sure it has nothing wrong with the function. We just simply hate how it "broke" our beautiful lockscreen layout

You can trigger the iris scanner again by clicking the text on the top center instead of swiping, this will not show the guidance visual.
I found the best way to mitigate this is to do two things.
1. Enable the toggle for "iris unlock when screen turns on" under lockscreen>iris scanner
2. Disable the toggle for "Unlock with home button" under setting>display>navigation bar
It's still not perfect but I'm at 90% success rate and it's far faster than fingerprint debacle. I figure when you press the home screen without option 2, phone triggers instant to unlock. With it unchecked it pauses so you can look at notifications.
Should default this way imo.
By golly you are right!

I know this is an old thread but I just would like to thank you for this tip! I always look at the line of text to unlock my phone and it sometimes doesn't do the trick. But looking at the red dot hasn't failed me yet!!! And it's almost instantaneous! Thanks for this tip.

Can't use Fingerprint Sensor with 3rd Party Lock Screen

I'm SO frustrated. The stock Marshmellow Lock Screen is terrible. One of the poor design points of Android for quite some time now. There are much better lock screens such as Microsoft Next, Hi Locker, etc. Some of which (like the ones mentioned) support fingerprint unlock.
The problem with the G6 is that it won't allow you to setup a fingerprint, WITHOUT enabling the system lock screen!
There's other apps that use fingerprint option, such as LastPass app. Can't use it unless you have System Lock screen enabled.
Pathetic

#1. Why are you on Marshmallow? Most G6's launched with 7.0
#2. I barley see my lockscreen. I just put my finger on the scanner and it unlocks. I don't see a point in having one anymore.

Especially with AOD the lock screen is very rarely seen. With knock on and the finger print scanner being very accurate on this device, I don't use the lock screen ever. I suppose if you use the swipe to unlock it's still relevant.

First the absence of a notification LED.... now this catastrophe!
Life's really tough.
Sorry I got my sweets all mixed up. I meant Nougat, not Marshmellow.
Everyone has different objectives of how they use their smartphone. For me, I'm not one to be using my phone frequently throughout the day. This is a key difference between me and a lot of typical users, especially the younger generation that is doing SMS/Facebook/Snapchat/Instagram/YouTube/Etc much of the day. I for one must have repeating sound alarms for missed SMS and phone calls as the LED indicator doesn't do any good when you aren't always glancing at your phone. I can leave it in another room for much of the day. So I guess I don't miss an LED indicator on my G6. (I use Prof Reminder app). When I do turn on my phone I want to see vital info right up front. That is:
- Text of missed SMS messages
- Missed phone calls
- Upcoming appointments for the next few days
- Weather for the next 3-5 days
I used to use C Locker which lets you put any widgets you want on the lock screen but I'm preferring the simplicity and look of MS Next Lock Screen now.
Anyhoo, my preference is to double tap screen to see my lock screen with all the info, then if I want to unlock, use the fingerprint sensor. The stock lock screen SUCKS.
The bottom line is that use of the fingerprint sensor should be independent of the lock screen setting. This would be like saying you can only use the home button with the stock home screen and couldn't use Nova Launcher.

Apps Closing When Screen Turned Off

Almost every time I push the power button to turn the screen off and then unlock the phone again almost any app I'm in has been closed. I mean it can be literally lock the phone and unlock it right away and it takes me to my home screen instead of back to the app I was in. The app is still in my recents, but as soon as I unlock the phone it takes me to my home screen.
This is happening on my unlocked version directly from OnePlus. When I try it on my T-Mobile version it doesn't close the apps and unlocks right back where I left off. It also is working correctly on my Pixel 3 XL and the RAM management is currently absolute trash on that phone.
I'm using Nova Launcher on both phones, I have tried turning off battery optimization and advanced optimization and it still does the same thing. When I use the stock launcher this does not happen.
Anyone else seeing this or know how to fix it?

Thanks for the quick reply, it's really starting to annoy me and I'm running basically the same setup as you.
I've done everything short of a factory reset to try to fix it. I might have to do a factory reset when I have a little free time.

Thank you, well that helps me rule out that it has nothing to do with routing or bootloader unlocked. I was starting to think that might have had something to do with it because my T-Mobile version doesn't do this.

Same thing here it doesn't always do it but it doesn't have enough to be really annoying. I can't seem to find any Rhyme or Reason as to why it's doing it.
Edit: I just walked my dog for 10 minutes came back unlock my phone and it's still on this XDA page like it's supposed to be. SMH
Ok, so this has bothered me a lot as well and I have mentioned this and a few other issues in one of my earlier posts.
It's definitely a bug especially, as it does not happen everytime (only most of the times) and OnePlus has to fix it.
However, I do have a theory on why this happens. OnePlus has added a new feature (quick launch?) which let's you access app shortcuts when you press and hold the fingerprint scanner even after unlock. Now this overlay would presumably not work very well if you're inside an app.
So I think OnePlus takes you to the home page to prepare for this quick launch shortcut overlay display.
Obviously, this is a new feature and I believe needs some more development and bug fixing.
I would've hoped that at least turning the quick launch feature off would rid us of this problem, but sadly it doesn't.
Hopefully it's fixed soon.
can you guys check if you have my prob aswell?

I have a super annoying Problem when using Nova Launcher. My Dialer minimizes when i move my Phone away from my Ear. To reproduce: Open Dialer, minimize the Dialer, open again and make a Call, block the Sensor with your hand shortly. Looks like the Dialer crashes but it minimizes. For ending the Call i have to press the little icon in the Top Bar to maximize it first. Super annoying and with this Problem Nova Launcher is unusable. Somebody else with that Prob or someone have a suggetion to fix that?
I noticed the same problem, I thought I was just swing up to go back home before I hit the power button to turn off the screen out of habit and not realizing it. Glad to know I'm not crazy. I am stock from one plus but running Nova launcher.
