Anyone get a Core X-Series or Threadripper yet?
If so, what is your thought on it? Was it worth it?

Desperate Evo user

I been waiting for any news or leaks about the true Evo successor. Was looking forward with Sprint's "look what we have under are sleeve" big event. and I was very disappointed then I read HTC was going to make a announcement on MWC what they shown was a major let down yet again.
Now, since the Evo 2 isn't coming anytime soon. looking at all these high tech phones coming out which one will you say its the your
top 3 Evo successor Options:
My picks:
1. Lg Optimus 3d
http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/15/lg-optimus-3ds-omap-4-benchmarked-pulls-ahead-of-exynos-and-te/
2. Motorola Atrix
3. Samsung Galaxy S2
i dont think we need much just a solid hardware upgrade maybe dual processors and a better gpu but the overall design of the evo is perfect imo
the longer we wait for the evo 2, the better it will be

By then, Samsung and LG will have better phones too. HTC is playing catching up.
PS. My name is HondaCop and I approve this message.
I agree with HondaCop. But then again, I still have hopes that we will have a successor by June.

How did this happen?? HTC used to have the latest and greatest. everyone wanted HTC. Now, they're being beaten by LG and Moto.....really!? come on HTC we still believe!
anyways, i would lean towards the LG. the only part that turns me off is the damn 3D push. I don't want to waste any resources on 3D anything. it's a worthless tech that i think will fizzle out eventually. I do really like that phones are becoming so powerful. I've started taking my laptop with me less and less as my phone becomes more powerful.
<rant>
I also want to know whats with Sprints handset selection team. Do they just take 364 days off a year?? what gives?? The other carriers are getting solid handsets and we're left to speculation. (not that i would ever leave sprint, i just wish they would listen to their loyal users)

No. HTC was always like this. Great/decent looking phones with crap internals. The early Snapdragon release was their one shining moment. Now they've been passed and are still holding on the old A8 based Scorpion. Even their newer dual cores are based on the same core where as everyone else is using newer, faster Cortex A9 cores for their dual cores. Just look at their tablet, a single core A8 based Scorpion. It's back to business as usual for HTC, and not so much because their other components (cams) were never that great.
Nividia announced quad core phone for the end of the year.
I may just skip dual core phones all together.

again ill say this, the evo2 is a myth, nobody said we would even get one.
I agree.. as of right now, the EVO2 is a myth.
I'm happy with my EVO for now.. it is sad to see HTC is not at all keeping up. I won't and will never buy anything Samsung. I have no clue about LG.. their phones would be promising if wasn't for the blatant touchwiz UI ripoff. Out of all the UIs to try and copy, they pick that one? The one that tries to look as close to an iphone as they possibly can? Yuck
I am starting to wonder if I will have to look at other brands tho .. which is very sad =(
im sure sprint will get some type of higher end android phone but when? who knows! i do know if that lg 3d phone comes ill but that.

You keep spitting this nonsense when clearly HTC has stated their new chipsets are based off the A9.

Whats so wrong with the EVO?
Yea, other companies have released better phones this year but they were playing catch up to the EVO game.
Im sure when Sprint releases something new, it will be competitive with the rest of the game.
I also have hope for an EVO 2 of some sort. Hopefully no later than 3rd Quarter. I mean, isn't the EVO basically the most successful phone for Sprint in a very long time? Why wouldn't they milk that for all it's worth? Evo has more name recognition that any Sprint based phone I've ever known.
I find it amusing that people are so ready to jump ship. The Evo is a perfectly capable phone. Hell, even the Hero is still a very decent phone. Combine either with a good ROM and they are both really good. I will be happy with my Evo through the duration of my contract. By then the quad core phones with higher end GPUs will be out. I will worry about a new phone then.

The 4th gen ones due in 2012 are. They will be using the same modified A8 Scorpion cores for this years 3rd gen dual cores. BTW, A9's are roughly 25% faster.

Unless your phone is falling apart, I would wait for a new HTC model to come out, whenever it does.

Hmmmmm Well reading has brought me to the following......
QSD8672. 8672 will be based on Cortex A9 design and also will include the Adreno 220 GPU. Unfortunately, phones using this processor will arrive at earliest Q3 of 2011, if not Q4. If HTC Sabor gets released in Q3 of 2011, it could use this processor, which should outperform all of the above. (a close call when compared with Samsung’s Orion based phones).
I expect Verizon to release both Motorola Droid T2 and HTC Scorpion (T2 first) during Q1 of 2011. T-Mobile will counter it with HTC Glacier in Q1. Sprint will wait, and release Sabor in either Q2 or Q3 and possibly use more powerful processor (Qualcomm QSD8672) than their competitors. All carriers will release some flavor of Galaxy S2 during Q2 and Q3. AT&T will probably release a dual-core Windows Phone 7 device during Q2 of 2011 as well.
Performance-wise, I’d rank them in this order:
HTC Sabor for Sprint
Samsung Galaxy S2 for all carriers
HTC Glacier and Scorpion for T-Mobile and Verizon respectively
Motorola Droid T2 for Verizon

Old article is old, you'll be waiting until probably mid 2012 for the fourth gen Qualcomms. Read their latest schedules/PRs.
HTC will be lagging behind. We'll probably see their A8 based dual cores in the summer, and a few weeks later you'll probably start hearing of even better A9 based quad core Tegra 3 devices.

Will Acer have a Tegra 3 Tablet?

So I've seen rumors of the Transformer 2 coming out in foreseeable future with a Tegra 3 processor and all the bells and whistles. Has Acer made any indication that it will have an answer back device? I almost feel like I've gotten on to the Tablet Train too late if they are about to do a generation shift with the processors and such.
Yes it will.
Yeah, it will be available via an OTA end of August
Edit - so long as you have not deleted your telephony app

Unless they put Star Trek teleporter technology in this thing I don't think they can OTA update the processor.
I do think they'll come out with a Tegra 3 tablet, I can think of no reason why they wouldn't. Considering it'd be more similar of a development environment than switching to OMAP or something. I also think that when it comes to touting your "platform" Nvidia sounds better than TI or Qualcomm. It's a more known brand, at least for high performance parts.
Perhaps the better questions would be, has Acer confirmed an Tegra 3 tablet? Is there any inkling that they will release anything close to the time that Asus does?
What your tab don't have Teleport!!!
You should try the new vogon rom c fleet v1.02.119.006 update 61b alpha...
I was thinking about buying the Samsung galaxy S2 with the Dual core but im think I'm gonna wait for the rumoured galaxy S3 that may be released end of this year!

Has the current Gen of 10" Honeycomb tablets even been out for a year yet? It seems crazy that the next generation is already coming out. Won't that create marketplace confusion?

Hell, Nvidia already had Tegra 3 on roadmaps for 2012 before the first real Tegra 2 devices were out, if I wasn't such a must have guy I'd have waited. As it is I'll sell the Iconia or pass it to the g/f and get me a Tegra 3/Ice Cream Sandwich device when they hit. That's provided reviews don't show some other platform stomping Tegra 3, which is doubtful.

It was announced "before CES," which is in January, 2012.
Tegra 3 seems inevitable for android tabs its like asking if the newest high end PC's will have the latest Intel cpus. When they will be released is another question. Since most tegra2 tabs were only released a few months ago I can't see anything replacing them for at least another year.

I would not say it's a dead certainty by any means, considering that the founder of Acer has expressed pessimism about the future of tablets. I'd post a link, but as a new user, i'm not allowed to do so - article title is "Ultrabooks and tablet PCs are short-term fads, says Acer founder" on digitimes.
For sure there will be Tegra 3 based tablets, but maybe not by Acer. I get the impression that the A500 might not be a huge commercial success for Acer.

To launch in October would mean the tabs would have to be in the functional prototype stage NOW. Even if Nvidia do manage to release the hardware this year (latest reports peg a CPU release for Q3 2011), it's REALLY unlikely anything will make it to market for several months afterwards.
Archos has a tablet coming out using a 1.5ghz TI chip. They already have the promo videos out. It looks to have improved performance. Seems to me that the 1ghz Tegra2 chip just isn't quite powerful enough for 3.1. I run stock with overclock kernel and keep my CPU set to 1.2ghz to get the kind of performance I need. I had a Viewsonic gTablet that I tried to run at 1.2ghz and it couldn't take the overclocking and would crash frequently. So far my A500 has handled the overclocking in all modes, including video play, Netflix, etc. Very pleased with that.
@jyams There are actually some benchmarks of systems using those chips, they're pretty decent performance wise.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4511/archos-80-and-101-g9-tablets-the-fastest-tablets-in-the-world
Part way down that page is a small "preview" of two phones, one using the lower end TI chip, OMAP 4430 I think. It's compared to a phone using Tegra 2. The 1.5GHz part I think is 4460 however, so should have a bit more performance. It's only a couple of benchmarks, so take it with a grain of salt.
Another thing to consider, how is the dev community for other platforms? I've only owned one non-Tegra device and there was none for it.

RAZR i vs m - Sales and Moto Strategy

This is NOT performance or liking one phone over the other!
Many of us interested in this phone know that Motorola was interested in seeing how the i would fare directly against the m with competing chipsets, some executives have commented on this. I haven't yet heard much on sales of either phone or more comments from Moto or Intel. As far as I'm aware, the i was really targeted for Europe and the m for the US.
Has anyone heard anything? Any predictions? Will Intel continue producing -some- single core chipsets which are 'power efficient' like the i's which they were so proud of?
Well , if you like the single core Medfield 2 Ghz, you will definetly love the dual core Clovertrail+ @ 2Ghz from Intel coming out first half 2013.
Check out the Antutu benchmark here : @ youtube
According to the journalist : the Clovertrail+ is faster than Samsung S4 , HTC One, Sony Xperia Z here : @ rootzwiki
Next year Intel will launched the Quad Core Merrifield .
Sorry, still can't post outside links

Next gen Note 10.1 and 12.2

In the past month or so I have been preparing for the release of the next gen note tablets, according to rumors there will be two models released the 10.1 and the 12.2. The 12.2 was rumored to be released with the new exynos 5 octa core processor and the 10.1 was rumored to be released with the snapdragon 800, I was excited to find out that the 10.1 would be released with a snapdragon 800, the reason behind this is that based on what i have heard Qualcomm is more open to releasing drivers to developers for creating custom roms and what have you. In recent days I have been hearing rumors that the new note line of tablets will be released with Intel's atom based processors. the problem I have with this is that most Intel based devices I have tried have turned out to be very poor performers both in benchmarks and user experience. I would love to get more input from others on how this change might effect us the users when it comes to development, user experience and performance

Spec Change?

I know this is probably discussed in the mammoth 29 page thread about the release and price and all but darn if I can scour thru all that... lol
I just looked on Best Buy's site and the Wifi edition is a quad core 1.9 ghz now I thought the quad got the 2.3 and the octa got the 1.9? I mean this looks backwards to me. If I'm only getting 4 cores give me the faster ones please!

I noticed that too! And i'm wondering the same thing. I really hope the 1.9GHZ isn't paired with the quad-core.
I figured that's just an error on their part?
Yeah it's probably an error. Back when I was researching the HP slatebook x2, Best Buy had the graphics as "Intel HD 4000" for like 2 weeks before changing to the correct NIVIDIA Tegra.
Edit: I'm sorry, they still have it listed in the spec sheet incorrectly lol...wow
Have you seen the official spec sheet? http://www.samsungmobilepress.com/2013/09/04/GALAXY-Note-10.1-(2014-Edition)-1
.
Best Buy isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. Its the Octocore Exynos chipset which is a dual Quad-Core processor configuration.

BestBuy is quite confused and messed up here. WiFi versions of the Galaxy tab get the 1.9 GHz octa core, and the LTE version got the 2.3 version Quad core. However, out of the 8 cores, only 4 are clocked at 1.9 GHz and they are the Cortex-A15 cores. The other 4 are Cortex-A7 and are clocked at 1.3 GHz.
