Battery Issues on this Device? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions & Answers

I'm having battery drain issues VERY badly currently and I'm SURE it has to do with something I installed because the life was amazing when I first got it and up until recently. I can't figure out what's causing it, so I wanted to ask if anyone knew of some good apps to work on this new 7.0 software on an un-rooted device. Please help! Thanks!

Better battery stats should do the trick.
If you are not rooted, google seatch for "xda stop wakelocks without root"
It works for me.

Android OS battery drain

Hi guys, Ive been experiencing this problem since a long time now, Ive read so much threads and opinions how to fix this, but nothing really worked. So my problem is basically this: When I leave the WiFi turned on the whole time the battery drain form the Android OS process rises massively. After I turn it off and reboot the tablet, everything is fine until I turn it on again...I tried really everything - from changing the rom and android version to unistalling the preinstalled google stuff, nothing helped. Is it just me or is there someone else with this bug?
P.S. My current Android is 4.4.2 KOT49H Rooted, Baseband 1231_0.18.0_0409
I guess you could be a little more specific than "massive" here. Maybe posting some stats could help others to help you!

'motorola services' process

hi all, im new in this forum as i recently bought a used white RAZR I (and im very happy with it so far, not rooted yet)
few days ago i began to track closely the battery drain and wakelocks caused by applications when my screen was of
I installed an app called WAKELOCK DETECTOR (free from play store) which showed me that a process called com.motorola.blur.servic.blur causes a lot of wakelocks and used a lot of CPU and battery
My questions are:
1 - does anybody know what this process is for exactly? what it does?
2 - can it be turned off? yes, it can be turned off in the stock app manager, and i also read in a thread for motorola razr maxx that this process can be safley turned off without consequences - but does it also apply to our phone ?
p.s. i turned off this process permanently on my phone and havent noticed any negative or positive consequences yet, but its been too shhort time to tell yet.
thanks..

It's too long ago, so I don't exactly remember if i deleted it or it was overwritten by a custom rom. So it's not essential for running the phone.
you can now unlock and root your phone or wait 4, 6 or 8 weeks till the kitkat update is out and after this unlock and root your phone and try out
4.4-custom-roms.
you can also try greenify (look in play store) for lowering power consumption.

thank you for the info. I'd like to root my phone but to be honest I can't find enough time and will to read the thread about how to do it (I owned a galaxy S plus for over a year and tried more than 20 custom roms so im experienced with rooting flashing etc).
I tried greenify but its not making any difference, perhaps because my phone is not rooted so the app cant work as its meant to be. Anyways, my phone leasts for 2 days when not used too havily so im pretty happy
CANT wait for the official kitkat ! if its 2 months... i can wait
"motorola services" is only to get OTA Updates. If you want to Update to KitKat you have to enable the "motorola services" again if KitKat is available.

Battery life problems

Hoping somebody can help me out here. I just got my OnePlus Two (Chinese version) and it is running Oxygen 2.0.2. Granted its only been the first day with the phone, but its had a wake lock the entire day now. Installed BetterBatteryStats but I admittedly don't really know how to use it to actually solve the problem. Are other people having these issues and how can I solve it? Frustrating that its stock software and already having issues.
Phone is unlocked and rooted but not rom'ed.
Androids are always awake while charging. Thats normal.

Battery drains incredibly fast

Hey, so lately I've been experiencing incredibly fast battery drain, I am confused of why this is happening, I rooted my phone and tried doing some things to improve it, but that didn't help. When I first got my phone the battery was extremely good. I've just recently flashed stock firmware but it's still terrible, does anyone know any tips or tricks, maybe the root of my problem? I'll drop some screenshots as well.

Try running "diagnose" under Smart Doctor and see if it comes up with a misbehaving app.

You should try update system apps from dedicated menu.
This does not look THAT bad. Really.
Snapchat... Facebook Messenger... Facebook dedicated app.
Also that battery monitor crap. Anything else similar to that installed?
These are true battery suckers, also try dealing with QuickMemo+ app, as previously mentioned.

You've got a point, will remove one of the battery monitors. I seem to be some improvement after the QuickMemo+ trick.
Although I really don't know any good Facebook & Facebook Messenger replacements. Those I tried were just not giving me full performance and they're not looking good.
Isn't there a way to disable Quickmemo+ without root ?

I'm experiencing the similar starting this month, and seems like the battery drain comes with heating surrounding the power button, are you seeing the same symptom?

Did you try LG hidden menu trick? To do that, you need to type *#546368#*870# in dialer and you'll see a hidden menu. Then, tap on SVC Menu > LDB > Untick "enable" (both options needs to be unticked) close the menu and restart it. Most of the users says that this method is also useable, you can give it a try.
Hey,i have been experiencing the same thing. For me is like android system and android os and phone idle eat battery as the same time as the screen. So that means i am using the phone and three things at the same time are eating the battery.I went down from 5 hrs sot to 3 and a half.I have done a lot of things like the hidden menu, the quicknote, conserve memory thing.I don't know why it does that and the phone is really heating up.I have not experience this level of heat ever on my g6.I use the h870 europe with january security patch.
You all call this bad backup?? Plz get your phone tested. See my phones's backup.. this backup with no in between charge
sounds like a rogue app, install better battery stats from play store and check results (it will ID apps chowing battery).

Help me solve my Idle battery drain - and better battery stats report posted

Hello,
Been struggling a lot with my battery drain since I bought my 6t.
I am unrooted and now with 9.0.7, I already uninstalled a lot of apps to try and locate the root cause for my battery drain. I never had social apps which I know can misbehave a lot.
I have location, nfc, etc always turned off, battery optimisation settings always on.
I installed better battery settings and what you see is during my sleep, and the phone drained a lot once more.
Another issue I am having is that each time the phone reboots the find my device is activated even after I set it to not do anything.
I need help though, I quite do not understand what I should do now.
What is my problem? What can I do to achieve the crazy screen on time some of you have? More, I would be happy to just solve the screen off battery drain. One day I had over 40% drain without using the phone more than 5 minutes.
Can someone please help me out?

The problem is that you messed up your stock Rom in the process of unrooting. My best advice is to root your phone again and back up everything with Titanium Backup. After that, use MSM download to return to stock ( The same software state you had it in when you first bought it). I can assure you that the hardware is fine, but misbehaving software will only cause more harm to your phone. No one will provide you with a simple fix like a flashable zip and dont panic because its not that big of a deal. I bricked my 6t right after misreading instructions, but it recovered and its heavily modded. Go back to stock and start over

I came up with that answer without checking those screenshots, but now its obvious. By unrooted, do you mean you had root and then unrooted or havent attempted anything? The other thing is obvious, your battery is draining because of google play services. I had the same problem, but i removed my gapps because i use better app alternatives that dont require google play services. The other thing is i use services though my browser than having a separate app for everything. I find it safer and i use Brave browser.

You probably got it right, I already had twrp installed but since it was not working I went back to stock. How did you figure that out?
I might need some help to do as you said since I do not want to brick the phone. What if i do a factory reset? Will it cure the problem?

A factory reset wont really fix the issue, but you could always give it a try if you backup your precious files first. The problem that i am currently facing on my device is that i cant port Google Camera. I realized that it doesnt work without google play services, but i am not going to start over from stock just to get one app (Doing so fixes everything, but there is a workaround). I am planning on Deodexing my stock ROM and installing MicroG. Its really difficult to find easy instructions , but i gotta challenge myself. Anyways, in your case you just need to give the MSM Download Tool a try, its normally used to unbrick devices and return them to stock. You can always use it in case you mess up your software to the point where flashable zips only cause more issues.

Accessed stock recovery, made a factory reset from there by erasing everything. In about 11 hours the phone used almost 20% battery and no screen on time! Just standing there the whole time. I think I really need to do something, will try that tool you pointed.
No chance of bricking right?
Regards
tried it, it gives me a sahara communication failed. not sure what should I do now.
EDIT: I remember better now. when I got the phone it was on 9.0.4, I updated to 9.0.5. Then I side loaded the temporary and somewhat "compatible" TWRP which I used to flash Magisk. not sure why but root checker said I was not rooted and since an official TWRPO seemed to be far I decided to lock the bootloader (this gave me the official recovery back).
Do you think this is what is causing me the battery drain? everything is working properly to the exception of battery drain.
ANOTHER EDIT: decided to contact oneplus directly and explained the situation (even mentioned I had twrp and that I flashed magisk. they asked me to send the phone so they will see if this is hardware problem or software. not sure if they are going to charge me or not but I think it is unfair to charge (lets wait and see).
Can anyone help me figure out how to solve this problem assuming this is a software issue? I would pretty much like to avoid shipping the phone, never had good experiences with these rma assistance in the past.
Hi Cesar,
Hentai already suggested you how your problem could be solved

The mistake you are committing is this: having installed BBS, you should have taken an idle dump (as described in the OP of the BBS thread) and posted it in the BBS thread asking for help. Screenshots won't help.
Google Play Services by itself rarely drains battery on Oreo and especially Pie. All the apps go through Play Services for their requirements and if there is a misbehaving app, instead of finding it, people blame Play Services (I am not a fanboy of Google).
EDIT: Having said that, I just checked your screenshots. BBS is not functioning properly and the readings are skewed. Which version are you running? From your battery history screenshots, I see that you seem to have about 2% per hour drain. At best it can be brought down to 0.5%. Uninstall BBS, reboot and reinstall it. Let us see whether this time it runs properly.
