(Q) moving signal bars to the left. - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

Hello all,
Have always been able to move the signal bars to the left, by all accounts it was easier when on marshmallow.
Coming from the HTC 10 I convinced Jan from team venom to see if he could move them and finally he could..
Just looking to do the same here.
Anyone know if it can be done ?,
Cheers.

It's possible. Underneath the themes and modifications, android is still the same across all devices.
The question is if anyone is willing to implement such a feature.

Not sure mate, it does look decent to be honest, especially with other signal icons.
There was an xposed mod which did it but I'm really not wanting to install that.

There's no Xposed for Nougat. Unless it released recently and passed me by without noticing.
So that option is excluded.
I don't disagree with you that it may possibly look decent. What I meant was that the demand for such a feature may be too low and developers may not find it worthwhile.
You could look for a ROM that catches your eye and ask the developer if he can do it. Or maybe some of the existing ROMs like Resurrection Remix or AICP have it already.

None of them have it already, the work load is high so a request is difficult.
As for xposed, it's included in nolimits xXx ROM? So it is available.
But like I said I'd rather not.

As I said, Xposed did not release for Nougat yet.
The reason it is available for nolimits xXx ROM is because it was compiled with Xposed.
Any Nougat ROM can have Xposed if it is compiled with it, but this requires the developer to support it, which many don't.

Yea that's fine mate, what I meant was is there is a possibility, I'm aware of the problems with xposed, I would prefer not to go down that route. Plus I'm not using xXx no more so it wouldn't make no odds.
Either way, do you know how to shift icons on the status bar ?

[Q] Do you feel the need to run a custom ROM on Nexus 4?

Yes, people... the NEXUS 4!
This is the first time since Qtek 2020 was released that i feel that i no longer need to use a custom rom to fully appreciate a smartphone operating system.
The nexus 4 and Android 4.2.1 is a perfect match:
- everything is speedy
- the functionality is logical
- there is finally encryption included in the operating system from the get-go.
- Updates are instant!
- No apparent bugs with radio and hardware!
I'm in love with this thingy! :victory:
How do you feel about the Nexus 4 and it's operating system, will you put in a custom ROM?
Custom kernel, yes. Custom ROM, not yet.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
already running a custom ROM, you created the thread in the wrong section bro
Not really
Do I need it? no, it does everything I need it to do perfectly. Haven't even rooted yet, but I imagine I'll break down soon and start playing.
A custom kernel may help battery life.

Ah.. should have been in the Q/A?
Felt like general was more... general.. while Q/A is like it says.. Questions and Answers.
There's no answers here, just a question.
Yes, I like the extra features of custom roms, easy as that.
Thats why its a Nexus, freedom of choice.
its a must, I haven't rooted yet to check any issues before I rely on it, you need custom roms due to the display and dpi, some of the text is too big in apps and don't provide an option so its not using the space effectively, talking about paranoid android rom
Custom kernel is necessary, the stock kernel on this phone sucks.
Custom ROM, not so much but it's nice to have all the extra features.
Transmission sent from my badass Nexus 4.
Kernel, for the moment.
the stock experience is too plain. not enough options. even worse for those coming off of a samsung device. people can talk about the stock experience all they want... but its better on the custom rom side.
As I said in the other thread I tried all the custom ROMs and none were as good as stock. No issues with the stock kernel either. The ease of trying different ROMs and the option to do what we want is awesome though.

Agreed. Don't get me wrong, stock is great. I've been spoiled rotten by all the great devs on XDA. I can't live without options.
Stock kernel does blow, though.
I did miss T9 in the dialer, but it's not a deal breaker. It's also understandable that T9 isn't in AOSP.

Custom launcher not enough then?
Damn, should have added that to the question.
What stock kernel would you recommend?
I have only used the stock kernels on all my phones unfortunately, so don't have any experience with that.

nope. you need a custom rom to edit the navbar and put the menu button back in that so many of us are used to. you also need it to toggle the navbar if you so choose. and many more things.

right now... franco is the best. its smooth, responsive, and is huge for the battery. but his r16 is having random reboot issues. he is fixing right now, once fixed you can add completely stable to the list of things. but i am on r15 and its great. best thing is get franco and do as i do... when there is an update to it... give it a bit and look at the last page of thread to see if its stable.

Thanks a lot for the answers!
Don't understand what you changed in the navbar, do you have link to such a mod?
Thanks, i'll check into the franco kernel, but does changing the kernel affect security??

it can. but i have never had any issues. unless you are in a position to worry about security... with your job, there is nothing to worry about.
edit: added pic.
and if you are in that sort of position to worry about security... the last phone you need is a nexus.
So far, still on stock ROM. If it weren't for ad-blockers requiring it, I wouldn't even have rooted it at this point. I do use Nova Launcher instead of the stock launcher, though. The only reason I might do a custom ROM is because I don't like not having 1% battery in notifications.
I feel like I need to run a custom ROM since custom ROMs have much more tweaks and features that stock does not have. CyanogenMod for example.

Should i go for an iPhone? Because the alternatives are not that great.

Sprint V20 bootloader status?

The title pretty much says it all. I'm on Sprint and I like this phone but I'm not going to get it if the bootloader is locked and/or it can't be rooted. Having ad blocking and Xposed on my phone are basic requirements for me to get one.
Would any kind soul please let me know?
I don't know, but if not anything with the bootloader would love a way to at least get a systemless root, does this sound like something that could even be possible?
It is locked as of now. Root may or may not come.
Get yourself Adguard and live happy. What do you want Xposed for?
I like root just to debloat.
I also like Titanium Backup as well
Yes. Adblocking and titbackup. Xposed would be nice though this phone needs less xposed modules for sure. I think. Lg got a lot of things right ootb.

Is this a serious question? Have you used xposed be before? The YouTube ad blocking alone is worth it. Not to mention being able to tweak literally everything on the phone and basically have a custom ROM like experience without having to flash a new ROM over the stock one. Lets say i want to change the height of my navbar and make it pink instead of black. I can do all that with xposed. If you're asking why xposed is desirable you may as well be asking why customization is needed.

Everyone has their own preferences and ways they live their life. I made this thread to inquire about a specific property of the software (thanks for your input on that), but not any advice on whether or not I should use it. Your advice is unsolicited and unwanted. Thanks.

I've never had stability issues with any xposed modules. My previous device was the LG G4 and I used xposed to tweak the crap out of it and it was awesome. There is a reason why xposed is so popular go look at the xposed threads. Just cause you don't feel its necessary doesn't mean it has no value to other users. This is XDA developer's for godsakes i dont think encouraging people to be content with a stock device should even be allowed on this site. But thats my humble opinion.

[Viper4Android] [OxygenOS] Request for including Viper4Android in OxygenOS

Hi,
I have just found that there is a thread in the Oneplus forums that requests to include Viper4Android in OxygenOS.
I am not allowed to root my Oneplus 3T because I also use it for work, but Viper is the one thing i miss most.
Please like the post, maybe the Oneplus developers react:
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/integrate-viper4android-into-oxygen-os-feature-request.488960/
Not going to happen. Viper is no longer in development. It comes from an age before SELinux. It cannot be implemented in a way that is suitable for "release software".
No longer in development? Last build of ViperFX is of Feb 12, 2017...

Looks like I'm a bit behind on the news. Thing is, if I hit the check for updates button, it still links to 2.4.0.1. That's why I missed it.
But still. It's not something any manufacturer can integrate into software that is shipped to customers.
One Plus would have to pay the devs would they not? It won't happen but it is a really great mod, I wouldn't run my phone without it.
Of course they can implement it. I don't get this SELinux bull, you don't need to break SELinux to get viper working. However viper has huge problems with Oxygen's audio stack in OOs 4. I would love Viper to be official, but I would settle with the audio stack being improved so that viper runs with it properly.
(Yes I know Viper 'works' but not with all the apps I use, and they work fine in CM14 or LineageOS. )

You are way behind.. Plenty of people using it with selinux set to enforcing.. You just need the right policy and when its system software baked into the ROM there is no reason we cant implement it with even fewer tricks.
You know the OS itself runs as root, more or less. We are talking about making it part of the OS

REQUEST: Marshmallow ROM for Pixel XL

Highly doubt it would be possible unless someone puts in tremendous hours of work into this since the pixel came with nougat.
I just don't see some Dev putting hours into this just for xposed and for an obsolete version of Android.

Xposed isn't really needed for much anymore. I mean most stuff u can do on xposed you can do with root, or root app, or an app, or flashable zip. And MM not gonna happen like he said, wishful thinking, lol. We need an Android O ROM though ? once TWRP works on O.

Generally speaking, such requests belong in the Q&A forum.
That stated, I can't imagine having the nerve to ask a question that starts with the words "can someone compile a ROM..."
In a word, this request should have never been made.
As others have mentioned, it's not likely someone can build a ROM based on an operating system that has never been available with this device.

Wait, on the Pixel and Pixel XL devices? We had Marshmallow?
Yeah, there are SEVERAL xposed modules I miss very much.
They gave me options that you cannot find in any Nougat custom ROM.
I'd LOVE to see MarshMallow on Pixel but that's not going to happen.
NotifyClean and EnhancedToast are two that I miss the most, just off the top of my head.
But I had like 15-20 modules on MarshMallow and some are no longer needed but some I really miss.
I'd pay a lot of money just for NotifyClean alone. Nougat has a similar option built-in but it sucks badly in comparison to what NotifyClean can do.
I also liked the one for PlayStore that made PlayStore open directly to "my apps" instead of the main page.
App Settings, Expand Volume, Native Clipboard, CrappaLinks, APM+.
Then there were MANY modules that did clone of what custom ROM's offer. But by simply re-enabling the saved modules after clean flashing a new ROM, you saved a TON of time by not having to set each item individually in ROM settings. Like App Ops Exposed, GravityBox, Lock Screen Mods, etc.
I'd pay big money for App Settings also. Though it hasn't worked properly since Lollipop.

I mean, I love xposed, and totally see where you're coming from, but calling others idiots isn't necessary..
I understand, its frustrating when you say "I like this feature, does anyone know how to port it?" But others respond with "I never needed it, therefore you shouldn't need it."
I liked xposed because I could get all my favorite lineage/cm features on any ROM I waa on.. I haven't seen a screen off, long press volume button seek tracks app to work on nougat. Macrodroid has gotten close, but not completely there.
Believe me, I kept my oneplus 3 on marshmallow for months after nougat rolled out because xposed. And here you are nearly a year out. But I think what might be a good option as well is to make a list of modules you use, post them, and see what apps others recommend.
Figure if the need was bad enough one would figure out how to port it themselves ?

Captain hindsight!! ??????

Oos or cfw

I have searched but can't find any info specially answering my question.
I previously had a op2 and quickly moved to aospextended and other lineage. The camera was obviously never as good when not using oos.
I have a rooted device and wondering whether it's worth moving away from oos at the minute. Are there any major benefits of the other roms whilst OnePlus are rolling out updates.
Does the camera software suffer ?
What is this, PlayStation?
Anyway, I can't speak to whether camera quality suffers, but it breaks the fingerprint scanner and OP facial recognition so it's not worth switching to me.
I just wish Xposed for 9.0 would get released soon, that'd be amazing

Xposed had been ported unofficially to pie already

Not many modules are working however and the source is closed, it's been verified to work but no telling if it's doing anything it's not supposed to.

Yeah, but I wouldn't risk installing it, especially given the nature of Xposed. Closed source hack (which Xposed really is, a one big hack) from an unknown dev, what could go wrong?
