Does Moto G5 Plus, support 4.5G (4G+ or LTE-A ..) ? - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
I bought a G5 Plus (XT1685) last week But I can't get 4.5G with my phone and my phone doesn't show "4G+" sign ..it just show "4G" logo
does XT1685 support 4.5G ? or only the USA edition support 4.5G ?!

maybe because XT1681 LTE band is similar to USA Edition (XT1687) LTE band :
1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 12(700), 13(700), 17(700), 25(1900), 26(850), 38(2600), 41(2500), 66(1700/2100)
XT1685 LTE band :
1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 19(800), 20(800), 28(700), 38(2600), 40(2300), 41(2500)

Which model do you have? XT1685 ?
my previous phone (Galaxy A7 2017) always showed 4g+ in my room

I got the 1685 and have 4g+ in top of the screen quite often.
It doesn't seem to work better/faster than normal 4g though.

The Moto G5 Plus supports LTE-A Category 6... meaning 2 or 4 MIMO layers for up to a maximum 301Mb/s download and 51Mb/s upload rate in supported LTE Band (US XT1687 B1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 25, 26, 38, 41, 66 and UK/EU XT1685 B1, B3, B5, B7, B8, B19, B20, B28, B38, B40, B41) provided there is carrier support.
A global list of carriers and their LTE/LTE-A network support is available here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks
Be aware that although a carrier may be listed as having implemented LTE-A or MIMO, that doesn't mean it is everywhere in that carrier's coverage area.

Thanks for your description , but as i said , with my previous phone i had 4g+ sign top of the screen .. my sim carrier supports LTE+
so the main question is , Does XT1685 supports 4g+ same as the XT1687 ? some friends here say "yes" but some people say "NO" in another forum

The official specs clearly state it supports LTE Cat6, which is LTE-A (MIMO)... I know the XT1687 (and my previous XT1575 which supported LTE-A as well) did not indicate a different icon when connected to it, just "LTE".

Yes, it's supported
The phone will always show "4G" even when you're connected to a 4G+ Network, this is because stock Android doesn't have a different nomenclature for a 4.5G network and as we know Motorola use stock Android, maybe some models of the Moto G5 shows "4.5G" or "4G+" because of the carrier's, you know...they can add some stuff in Android devices...like the T-Mobile or AT&T devices, shows "4G" instead of "H+", like the rest of the world.

Nexus 6p Global and American Edition ?

Per site http://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_nexus_6p-7588.php. I was looking at the supported bands for the nexus 6p. It's said there is an American and Global verison. Is this true ? If so, is the google play store selling the american version? The american version is selling the one that has 1700 band. Which only t-mobile uses
I presume if you order the phone from US store you will get the US version... I live in Canada and ordered the phone from US to get the free $50 Google Play card.
I believe so. Also the USA version actually has way more LTE bands than the International version AFAIK

Try to repeat that again in your head.
And think "Why would the NA version have more bands than the Int. version?".
So no, the Int. version has waaaay more bands than the NA version.

Hi. Does anyone know if the American version works with Vodafone UK 4g? I had 4g reception only at a Vodafone store (they've got a signal boost), nowhere else can't get 4g...
This may sound dumb but, can I somehow make the 6P American model to work on band 38(2600) INTL?

No. If the hardware doesn't support a specific band, then there's no way to make it work.
there are no difference, just use US version if you're in US. If you're outside, any version will be OK.
I used my US Nexus 6P while in Dubai and I had LTE. I think you should just get the US Version if you live in the US especially if you want to use Project Fi so that the phone can connect to the sprint and T-Mobile networks properly.

How about the other way around? I have the possibility to get an US version while visiting the States, but then I'll be back in Europe and the US version doesn't have the 20LTE band, which is the most common in EU. I'm worried it'll have an impact in the LTE reception and speed. Anyone uses an US version in Eu? How is it? I see there was another person in the UK asking the same bit got no definitive answer. Thanks,
Blah...... Go with the version that fits your carrier, common sense

Bootloader unlock response from lg

This was LGs' response to my email asking about bootloader unlocking on the g5. They stated they will only unlock the European h850 model and they will do it this month... Here is the email:
"Hello,
Thank you for your interest in LG G5.
We are planning to support bootloader unlocking for LG G5 for the European market with model number H850 soon.
It will be available this month.
However, we currently have no plan to support bootloader unlocking for other variants of the G5.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
If there are any changes to the supported devices, we will let you know via our website.
Best Regards,
LG Developer site Team"
This is good news if you have that model unfortunately bad news for the rest of us until an exploit can be found and used.
yeah also got a reply today

great news for us over here in europe, but not so much for the rest of the world. though it looks like there are already working root's available so it shouldn't be long before wide availability, or maybe even the unlocked euro bootloader may point the devs to a solution for the other models?
Does anyone know what bands the H850 supports? It could still work in the US for certain carriers if you don't mind the import fees and if you could find it anywhere that would ship to the US.

OK, well now we just need to know if there are any H850 variants that aren't for the European market and therefore won't be able to unlock the bootloader.
There were some H815 models that couldn't be bootloader unlocked. You had to go out of your way to find specific H815 variants which could.
It's also nice to see the G5 H850 supports band 40. The H815 didn't. And the H815T wasn't able to be bootloader unlocked.

Yeah its a pity they persist with that. Only thing you can complain about.
Why just the euro market ? what is the official reason.
it's like they have their foot in the door, not ready to slam it shut or it could open wider.
Google does have a part to share in the blame here, they mandated with 6 that to root required boot loader unlock. Never the case earlier. Will it continue with N, don't see why not.

Probably European laws that oblige LG to provide an unlock (freedom of choice and such..).
Microsoft has special version of Windows for Europe too (e.g Windows without Microsoft Media Player).
I'm not from Europe but I only buy my phones over the years in the European \ International versions.

Have heard there may be some legal requirement but wanted something to back that..
All root amounts to is being admin. Can you think of any computing system earlier that you bought that did not give you admin rights. I cannot. Nothing special about being admin at all. Privileged yes.
But on phones, exploits have to be found to acquire admin on equipment you have bought. You have to break into your own system to be able to administer it better. What (!)
Well, now you cannot even do that...on the LG flagship if its not from the right region. Other companies do not seem to care, Samsung, Sony, HTC etc. The chinese ones go out of their way to make it easier.

How does warranty work for you. If i bought from abroad, the local LG would refuse service and say no warranty.
It's only a matter of time before the G's will be made in India so buying from abroad is not convenient.

heh yeah, we can speculate as to why the delay.
But am talking from a G4 perspective. Once enough time has passed, that any negative development cannot affect future sales ?
No relief if you're on a G5 as you will have to wait it out. The flip side is if G5 sales do not pan out they become more reasonable
If you look at the G5 & friends, this is encouraging tinkering isn't it. LG to me seems to be a company that listens to its engineers more than its marketing & industrial designers unlike say Apple or Samsung.
Form follows function at LG. This is clear so far. That kind of culture encourages development but somebody at the top said no or at least not yet.

Just wondering if I need to change the Modem file or something to make it work on another country as 4G
Same issue in the Netherlands with my Moto Plus. No 4G only G3 or lower
the weird thing is that no one knows if this is possible lol, no experts yet for moto g4 plus
Or it has multiple bands and it's unclear what you want to change. It has Edge HSPA and LTE for GSM and evdo and LTE for CMDA. That makes it a true world phone. Unless your variant does not support it.

No it's still stock android, though if i use my Galaxy s5 4G pops up immediately
Did not see any reason to use custom rom jet...
Got it fixed, call your provider and ask to reset QOS / data. 4G pops right up after restart.
For those wondering: it's not possible. One can technically unlock additional bands following QPST tutorials, and actually changes does stick, however model number cannot be changed which is the one that "tells" the device which bands to use. This has been my personal experience
It's not that. You can unlock the bands with QPST, but if the actual RF amplifiers cannot work on those bands, you won't get signal. One can be lucky if for example adds 800MHz band to a device that already has 850MHz, but the signal strength might be lower than expected.
http://www.radio-electronics.com/in...ong-term-evolution/lte-frequency-spectrum.php
I did "add" via Qualcomm software the EU band 20 to my US phone that had band 5, and I will be able to test it when I get there next week. The US phone has the other main two EU bands (bands 3 and 7, urban mostly).

So you're telling me there's a chance? I do have a XT1622 which has bands 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 19(800), 20(800), 28(700), 40(2300). I'm trying to use it with band 4 (1700/2100), what should I try next then?
Band 4 is "special" because it has such a wide frequency difference between uplink and downlink that I doubt it will work. The UL for band 4 is the same like band 3, but the DL for band 4 is more like band 1.
Not sure if they can be "coupled" like that, it might... Qualcomm modem reprogramming - to get in that mode it's easy on our phones, Power on + Vol Up and then scroll to Qcom... You need the special software (2 pieces, both running in the same time on PC), don't ask me how, just search on XDA.

What model Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ works best on T-Mobile as far as coverage?

Hello, quick question. What model of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus works best on T-Mobile as far as coverage when UNLOCKED? An UNLOCKED SM-G928T or an UNLOCKED SM-G928A? I'm sure it would seem obvious that the SM-G928T would be best since it's a T-Mobile-branded phone, but check out these Network Specs for each phone:
SM-G928T (T-Mobile) - LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 12(700), 20(800)
SM-G928A (AT&T) - LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 12(700), 17(700), 20(800)
Their identical models, except for the minor fact that one has access to band 8 and the other has access to band 17.
Now, band 8 is an international band, and doesn't really affect domestic coverage, however, band 17 is an AT&T band, so it would seem better to get the UNLOCKED AT&T model for T-Mobile SIM card/service as it has extra access to AT&T towers through band 17 thus providing better coverage, if I'm not mistaken. The AT&T variant has ALL of the bands that T-Mobile uses (2, 4 & 12) PLUS the bands that AT&T uses (2, 4, 5, 12 & 17). Is this theory correct, or no? Just asking.

Hello, quick question. What model of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ works best on T-Mobile as far as coverage when UNLOCKED? An UNLOCKED SM-G928T or an UNLOCKED SM-G928A? Yeah, unfortunately I have to pick out of the two. It looks like the international variant, SM-G928G, doesn't have a reasonably-priced 64GB edition and not worth paying for at the moment.

I think the international one has all bands, so it's more likely to be the best.

Thanks for your reply, I suppose and I hope it will work for me too..
Do you receive OTA updates normally?
Yes, even after a month of test I didn't find anything causing problem
The only thing I had to change is the SMS/MMS app because the stock one don't work on standard MMS network
Very good news ! I use mood for sms/mms so not a problem for me.. I will probably buy this phone in few days.
Thank you again for your quick replies ?

Thanks for the reply
I receive mine soon
Canada as mentionned works fine... The only issue I see with France is LTE bands. Are yours supported? Check the LTE bands with your operator and what the Z-Force supports, otherwise you might be stuck with 3G only (Which has all bands)

Z-Force droid is a verizon branded and exclusive phone... Was never released anywhere else from what I was told, so you'll have USA bands. You're supported for LTE, as B7 (2600) and B13 (700) tough. The Global version of the Moto Z (Non-Droid) would have global bands.
Verizon screwed people and moto over badly by making this phone an exclusive. Moto Z Force should have been the flagship Moto, not the Moto Z or the Z play...

So I am glad to hear that the French operator "free mobile" is totally compatible with unlocked verizon USA bands, and it will good to know it for future smartphone bought in USA, because it's a good deal (at least 100€ off with Europe, z force at the price of z play...) to buy flagship in USA
Just so you know, if you want to get a replacement shattershield, you'll have to order it from Moto and have to have a US shipping address... I can't get one shipped to Canada, sadly.

Yeah, I know shipito, I've supplied it to a few people in the forums Only issue is it becomes expensive for a 30$ screen replacement. I have friends in the US who can forward the package to me... So that'll be sufficient I think! Thanks though
