power button - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

Weird question for other owners: is the power button as stiff and clicky (and loud) as the volume buttons? Mine isn't, and I can't remember if I was when I got the phone last week or not. It doesn't really bother me, but if it's supposed to be firmer and has softened after a few days of use, I might consider exchanging the device.

Just checked mine, been using it since Thursday, mines as tactile and feels the same as the volume buttons.

Loose volume keys?

Am I the only one feeling that the volume keys are a little loose? The function fine but make a sound when I shake the phone. If it's just me I'll probably return it.
+1 Same here
Some here, a little loose. My wife's is the same, also. The power button is much tighter.
OK. Seems like replacing the phone won't help. I'll just get use to it I guess.
Mine doesn't make any sound when I shake the phone. If I were you I'd swap it. Rocket had very slight amount of give but I wouldn't classify it as loose.

Volume and power buttons are all tight and make no sound on mine when I shake the phone.
Hmm, my volume button is loose too. Sounds very cheap/janky... especially when the phone vibrates!
Might try a return.
This bothers me most about the phone. Otherwise, it's an awesome device.

Same for me too. No problems whatsoever.
My rocker is loose. Power button is very snug. I have the black case from t mobile on so I don't care though.
I just did an exchange on my vibrant.. the volume key on the one he brought out was extremely loose.. I made him get me another from the back and it felt nice and tight. I guess some are like that.
I just exchanged mine in-store too and got a unit with a much more solid volume button.

"Loose or Sensative" power/screen button

Loving the tablet, but wanted to see if anyone else received a unit with a loose or overly sensitive power/screen button? The slightest pressure toggles it while the volume rocker feels solid.
Appreciate it!!!

My power button feels solid along with the volume rocker.
Call Google and get an advanced replacement maybe?

so the overly sensitive power button is a defect? mine is really sensitive too
As is mine. I just assumed it was made that way. With the smart case I have, I never press it, so I don't mind.

Volume up button, feels stuck

Does anyone else have this problem? I don't know if it's just in my head, but it feels to have a less defined click than the down and power button. it does work, but feels to be stuck in slightly.
wondering if I should take it back, I have never dropped it, or spilt anything on it or anything like that. The button does work, but just feels slightly different to the others, I'm worried in case it gets worse and stops working
I just tested my volume rocker again very thoroughly for you and my vol up feels exactly the same as the vol down button. Gives good tactile feedback. Id suggest you to get an exchange.

I had the same problem with my Power Button. I exchanged it a day later and I advise you to do the same.

Thanks for the replies. It could be in my head, but I expect more when I have paid £580!
What would concern me is getting it swapped for one with other problems after reading threads on here. Mine is perfect apart from this perceived defect. I have until next Wednesday to get it exchanged though, in the uk they will only exchange it in the first 28 days, then the only option is to send away for repair, so don't want to have to do that and be without my phone for 2 weeks!

Volume rocker/button!?

damn you @motorola, how can you build in 2015 such a cheap volume button/rocker? it's shaking and, while doing so, it also makes a strange noise. I remember selling my Nexus 5 because of this...
it gives you a strange feeling of poor build quality / broken button every time I touch that area (and touch/hit the button).
the power button is fixed better in its place, but the volume button is just BAD :/
btw, is there a way to fix this?
For me it's the opposite, the volume rocker doesn't rattle much but the power button really does.
In theory, putting something in between the buttons and the internal switches should make the buttons tight.
I'm not one to experiment with hardware mods like that though, so I'll wait until someone else has done it successfully before I try it.
Only part of the build quality that's a disappointment.
I've got the phone yesterday and to be honest I'm waiting for ifixit teardown so I can safely open it and try to fix the volume rocker/power button issue.
Glad I'm not the only one. I'm seriously deciding whether it'll annoy enough to keep it.

If you look at reviews and comments you'll see that this is a widespread complaint.
At first I wondered if I got unlucky, but no, it's just a minor design flaw affecting all devices.

After two weeks with this phone, the issue with the buttons is annoying, both power and volume. It gives the feeling of poor quality. I do not understand how is possible Motorola made this design mistake.

Because it is Motorola trade mark becoming from moto 1st gen buttons flying and for me that i jump from g1 to x play flying buttons is no problem
If you put a case, is there still some rattling?
Thanks !!
I have no issues after putting a case on it.

Loose Power Button

I am loving my OPT and the premium feel but I was wondering if anyone else has a somewhat loose power button that rattles a bit. I never notice it since I have it in a case. But coming from a Nexus 5 and Nexus 6. The power button on those is super solid.
Just curious if i got a bum one or there all like that.
Nope you are not the only one.
There are many check on oneplus forums.
Mine power button is a little bit loose almost ignoreable but the volume rocker is a bit loose.
I can move them with finger.
Op quality checks aren't upto the mark it seems.
Both power button and volume button can move around quite a bit for me, appears loose, but as long as they dont fall...
Mine are solid
Mine are lose too. Checked in OP service center in Mumbai and found there are no spare parts at all. it sucks.
I am in discussion with their customer support for the solution. I want this lose buttons problem resolved anyhow, it wont sustain for long.
My OPT volume button is loose also, it moves up and down by a half millimetre.
Kinda tarnishes the premium feel of it.
