WhatsApp issues! - Huawei Honor Note 8 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone!
I like most people it seems are getting sick of this phone for its countless issues relating to notifications and general huawei "optimizations"
I keep getting camera failed when taking a photo within whatsapp and all me media disappearing and having to un install it and reinstall several times! Lasts a few days with no issues then starts all over again..
Has anyone else had this issue? I am seriously thinking of putting a custom ROM on it to make it more normal behaving but don't really know what's the best option. I have done this with a few other phones (galaxy note 3 and s6 and xiaomi redmi note 4) but I'm nervous about doing on this phone.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions
Matthew

No issues with whatsapp
Give you the right Permissions in App Settings?
You can make a Widget from Whatsapp on the Homescreen and no Problems with Notifications

Thanks very much for your reply.!
I have always had the widget as notifications are a major pain in the ass on this phone and have made sure all permissions are sorted.
It usually is ok for a week or two then suddenly it starts playing up. I really want to put a custom ROM on the phone but don't know where to start.
Thanks again and hopefully this maybe the last issue I have with the phone but I doubt it lol...
Matt

also make sure that whatsapp app is not on list "power save mode" apps. it can block it too and that's why you having issues

Is your Phone rooted?

No phone jot rooted but I really want to put a custom ROM on but don't know what's the best one? The phone standard is a real pain! Constant issues!

You haven't moved WhatsApp to the SD card, right?

[Q] random notification sounds on G2 running CM6.1.1

I have a samsung vibrant, but my wife has the G2, so i haven't been following this forum too closely. I have a problem i'm hoping someone can shed some light on. I tried a search with no luck, so sorry if this has been discussed and/or fixed.
I rooted my wifes G2 for her a couple of months back and installed what ever release candidate was available for CM. After a while the phone had a few bugs that started rearing their ugly heads (as expected on an RC release). So when CM6.1 stable dropped I upgraded, but after a while the same bugs were still there and same with CM6.1.1.
The bugs that my wife and i have been noticing are the alarm doesn't vibrate when set to just vibrate, sometimes random notifications will sound but there will be no text or email (this mostly happens when playing slacker radio in the car), and sometimes the screen will become sporadically unresponsive when web browsing.
Has anyone else had these issues? I've tried doing all sorts of searches on google and here on xda but i haven't been able to find any thing about this. What should i do? full wipe? flash a different rom? trying to avoid that since its a huge pain in the ass to restore all her apps and texts.
Any help is appreciated. Sorry if this has been discussed, but i did try to search. also any suggestions on alternative roms would awesome as well. if it were my G2 i would have already tried them all. thanks!
Not sure if this will help but after I reformatted my micro SD card and copied all the data back to it, my G2 started making random sounds.
I went in and checked all the notification sounds and they were all set to default, I reassigned them the way they were before and that seemed to fix it...
Try it and see.
ok thanks. i'll give it a shot tonight. if that doesnt work i think i'll just do a full wipe and reflash...or try a different rom
thanks again for the response

[Q] Noobish inquiry.. having issues with the April Update

hello ladies and gents, new to the site. Thought i might be able to get some answers for a few issues i've been having since the update. I don't know about you guys, but i'm having problems opening my apps after the update. They will try to open and just close immediately afterwards. Also for some odd reason every once in a while the logo for the app will be a white cirlce with a black backround. Very strange and frustrating since now none of my apps open. I will do a soft reset, and they will work for a second, and go back to not working a few minutes later. The system also seems to be running a little slower than usual, and the live tiles for "now" and sometimes a few others will just be a plain blue. any help would be highly appreciated, thanks for all the info you guys give on this forum.
don't all reply at once now lol.. i did a second update last night, odd cuz it says march 2011 update whatever that means.. and i'm still having the same issues.. slow performance, apps not working, and i never even installed a sd card on my phone cuz so many people were having issues. Do i need need to reinstall all my apps? cuz i'm having trouble with the marketplace too.. it's crazy slow, no icons are showing up next to the apps, and there is no download option, wth is going on? any help would be much appreciated, thanks
Sounds like a dud. Take the phone back as fast as you can and get a full refund or exhange for brand new unit.

Notifications unreliable... any ideas?

I'm running 4.4.4 on a Samsung Verizon S5 paired with a Moto 360 2nd Gen running 6.0.1.
My notifications seem to be very unreliable. The biggest pain is that I can't seem to find any pattern to what happening. Here's what might happen after any notification comes in:
Vibration on the watch, followed with NO notification showing on the watch display.
Vibration on the watch, followed by notification displayed as I would normally expect.
Vibration on the watch, followed by a displayed notification, but the display comes 4-6 seconds AFTER the vibration.
Vibration on the watch, followed by a display of the PREVIOUS notification, which then flips to the current notification after about 4-6 seconds.
As I said, it's really annoying because I just can't seem to pin down exactly what's causing the issue or any sort of pattern for when it works, when it sorta works, or when it fails totally. This happens with all notification types to varying degrees. GMail, Outlook, CloudMagic, Hangouts, SmartThings... to name the programs I regularly get notifications from.
The only non-standard thing I'm running on my watch would be WatchMaker Premium. I don't have any app launchers running on my watch.
I've tried uninstalling outlook (as someone in the Android Forums suggested). I've tried a factory reset on the watch. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling Android Wear on the phone. I've tried re-syncing apps... Just not having any luck figure out what's going on.
Anyone else experience anything like this? Anyone have any suggestions/thoughts?
100% the same for me on my sw3. Sad that 1.4/6.0 doesn't fix it.
I've sent feedback via the app. There's also a couple threads about it on the official forum.

I suppose it's comforting to know I'm not the only one experiencing this. What phone/os are you running?
I'm wondering if upgrading to a new version on my phone would help at all. An 'expert' in the official forum said it shouldn't make a difference, but at the same time it shouldn't be acting like it is, so I dunno.
Just really frustrating cause "glancable" notifications is one of the big pluses of a smartwatch and right now it just isn't working.
Another question: Which service are you using? I'm on Verizon. If you aren't that would eliminate service as an issue.
(Yes, I know that service shouldn't be an issue... but maybe whatever programs/radio/whatever Verizon pushes on the phone might somehow screw with things??)
FWIW, I flashed a new 5.0 rom last night. After lots of effort getting things back up and running (mostly), I'm getting proper notifications. Not sure why, but something in the process of flashing got things working again.

Same issues with my Verizon S5 and 360. How did you downgrade the moto 360 from 6.0 to 5.0? I saw the forum about it but it wasn't clear.

I'm having the same issue especially Snapchat the sound makes me feel like my speaker is going out which it's not
Same here. Bug in system
same here. I noticed it for awhile. Samsung needs to fix this bug!
it happens at least twice today. so annoying.. Anyone here having the same issue?
Aye, happening with me too. But it is not consistent, sometimes the notification sound will play in full, other times cut.
I also have the cut off sound when my sounds do play, but I currently have an issue when none of my sounds are playing at all. Then suddenly one app will play a sound, but the rest won't. But I had this on my S7 as well, so I'm not sure where the bug is, as it isn't specific to any app. I usually have to do a complete factory reset to reinstate them, which is a bit annoying.
This is pants, 8 months down the line and it's still happening. For me it's calendar notifications. Sometimes it'll only play one note of the sound, sometimes none, sometimes 2 or 3 notes. I've tried everything from changing tones to doing a factory reset, still no good. This is bad from Samsung, they've got such excellent hardware but their software implementation is poor, there's always something dragging it down.
Thought it was all just in my head… Turns out others are also having this issue. It doesn't happen 100% of the time, but it does happen.
I had problem with my S7 edge and now 6 months later with my Note 8. I did the factory reset and problem still exists. Someone had recommended me to install "Disable increasing ring" app, and that seems to fix the problem. You get 10 days trial then it's .99 cents to purchase. I will try to do the factory reset again and install very minimal app to see which one that causes the problem. Things is, I shouldn't have to purchase an app to fix the problem. Very frustrating. I don't know If it's only happen Samsung phone. If that's the case then I might have to switch to Pixel.
I just got an S9 now, running oreo, so we shall see if it still does it. I will report back soon.
Stupid Glitches
I'm having this problem now. I don't know if it's where I live (Juneau, Alaska) or my service provider or too much stuff stored on my phone. It's irritating. Especially when I end up missing half of my husband's work breaks because the sound doesn't go off. It happens mostly with FB messenger. I'm sick of it.

Do you have a smartwatch connected to it at all? Just wondering if that could be anything to do with it?

[Q] Worth to root it?

Hello guys, I just got my mi A1 like a week ago and I see that with magisk there are modules that fixes cam issues and other problems of the phone, so I would like to read some recommendations from you and if it worth to root it or wait to Oreo ?
Thanks and have a good day!
Mi a1 comes without features like night light, the button led sucks (for me), no Google dialer. Using magisk I can get these features, i also enabled navbars, and get good photos during nights using modded gcam. When Oreo update arrives, I'll uninstall magisk and get ota, so it is absolutely worth it.
I don't see why not...

The way I see it, there's no harm in rooting now, and getting all these wonderful new features as they come out. (It's exciting!)
If you need to wipe your phone and loose root to get Oreo, it's pretty manageable.
I say this because you can backup most of your Android experience (apps, wallpaper, homescreen layout) through Google's backup services in Settings. So, when Oreo comes out, and you want to update, it's not too arduous to recover the experience of using your phone. HOWEVER, it's not a one-and-done deal.
1. The apps are restored from the Play Store, so they need time (and bandwidth) to download, and obviously no custom apks.
2. Android settings are sync'ed, but (as far as I can tell) app settings are not.
3. Data from storage (downloaded music in Spotify, shows downloaded from Netflix, podcasts, audiobooks) is NOT saved! Fortunately, since our phone has a MicroSD (TF) slot, you can either (a.) store it there in the first place, or (b.) move the appdata (say if it's like Spotify or something, where the music is encrypted and stuff) before you wipe and update.
It does sound tedious and scary, but honestly, I'd recommend you go through the process of backing up, rooting, wiping, restoring once or twice so that you feel comfortable with it. That way, when the Oreo update comes, you'll feel like, "Hell yeah, I got this!" and it'll be a breeze.
Also, toying around with your tech does take up some time, and sometimes you'll screw up. I know I've had some scary moments in my career of hacking, and sometimes I still get pissed off. When it happens, take a deep breath, walk around, drink some water, do some push-ups, whatever you need to do to take your mind and focus off it for a second so that you can come back calm headed, and clear minded. You'll have a lot more fun that way. If you feel adventurous, EXPLORE! It's what tech is for! But, asking first (like you're doing now) is always a good idea, and see if people have done, or know how to do what you have in mind. You'll save yourself a lot of headaches that way.
So, that's my spiel. Hope it works out! If you ever need help, (like you get stuck in a boot loop or something) remember to take that deep breath, and then come to the forums. We'd love to help.
Peace!
Hi.
Can you please point which mod are using for low light camera
If you use titanium backup, app data is kept and you don't need to download apps again.
