Notifications unreliable... any ideas? - Wear OS Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running 4.4.4 on a Samsung Verizon S5 paired with a Moto 360 2nd Gen running 6.0.1.
My notifications seem to be very unreliable. The biggest pain is that I can't seem to find any pattern to what happening. Here's what might happen after any notification comes in:
Vibration on the watch, followed with NO notification showing on the watch display.
Vibration on the watch, followed by notification displayed as I would normally expect.
Vibration on the watch, followed by a displayed notification, but the display comes 4-6 seconds AFTER the vibration.
Vibration on the watch, followed by a display of the PREVIOUS notification, which then flips to the current notification after about 4-6 seconds.
As I said, it's really annoying because I just can't seem to pin down exactly what's causing the issue or any sort of pattern for when it works, when it sorta works, or when it fails totally. This happens with all notification types to varying degrees. GMail, Outlook, CloudMagic, Hangouts, SmartThings... to name the programs I regularly get notifications from.
The only non-standard thing I'm running on my watch would be WatchMaker Premium. I don't have any app launchers running on my watch.
I've tried uninstalling outlook (as someone in the Android Forums suggested). I've tried a factory reset on the watch. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling Android Wear on the phone. I've tried re-syncing apps... Just not having any luck figure out what's going on.
Anyone else experience anything like this? Anyone have any suggestions/thoughts?

100% the same for me on my sw3. Sad that 1.4/6.0 doesn't fix it.
I've sent feedback via the app. There's also a couple threads about it on the official forum.

I suppose it's comforting to know I'm not the only one experiencing this. What phone/os are you running?
I'm wondering if upgrading to a new version on my phone would help at all. An 'expert' in the official forum said it shouldn't make a difference, but at the same time it shouldn't be acting like it is, so I dunno.
Just really frustrating cause "glancable" notifications is one of the big pluses of a smartwatch and right now it just isn't working.

Another question: Which service are you using? I'm on Verizon. If you aren't that would eliminate service as an issue.
(Yes, I know that service shouldn't be an issue... but maybe whatever programs/radio/whatever Verizon pushes on the phone might somehow screw with things??)

FWIW, I flashed a new 5.0 rom last night. After lots of effort getting things back up and running (mostly), I'm getting proper notifications. Not sure why, but something in the process of flashing got things working again.

Same issues with my Verizon S5 and 360. How did you downgrade the moto 360 from 6.0 to 5.0? I saw the forum about it but it wasn't clear.

[Q] random notification sounds on G2 running CM6.1.1

I have a samsung vibrant, but my wife has the G2, so i haven't been following this forum too closely. I have a problem i'm hoping someone can shed some light on. I tried a search with no luck, so sorry if this has been discussed and/or fixed.
I rooted my wifes G2 for her a couple of months back and installed what ever release candidate was available for CM. After a while the phone had a few bugs that started rearing their ugly heads (as expected on an RC release). So when CM6.1 stable dropped I upgraded, but after a while the same bugs were still there and same with CM6.1.1.
The bugs that my wife and i have been noticing are the alarm doesn't vibrate when set to just vibrate, sometimes random notifications will sound but there will be no text or email (this mostly happens when playing slacker radio in the car), and sometimes the screen will become sporadically unresponsive when web browsing.
Has anyone else had these issues? I've tried doing all sorts of searches on google and here on xda but i haven't been able to find any thing about this. What should i do? full wipe? flash a different rom? trying to avoid that since its a huge pain in the ass to restore all her apps and texts.
Any help is appreciated. Sorry if this has been discussed, but i did try to search. also any suggestions on alternative roms would awesome as well. if it were my G2 i would have already tried them all. thanks!
Not sure if this will help but after I reformatted my micro SD card and copied all the data back to it, my G2 started making random sounds.
I went in and checked all the notification sounds and they were all set to default, I reassigned them the way they were before and that seemed to fix it...
Try it and see.
ok thanks. i'll give it a shot tonight. if that doesnt work i think i'll just do a full wipe and reflash...or try a different rom
thanks again for the response

[Q] Sync Icon

Ok, so I've done some searching and I've found my problem is pretty widespread over a few different devices. However, it seems like no one has come up with a solution. My problem is this, SO a couple weeks ago I had the sync icon pop up in my notification bar. But then it didn't go away. I've tried looking on other forums for this solution but nothing yet. Thought I'd see if anyone here has the same problem and if possible, how to fix it. I can't help but think my battery life is suffering since it seems that since this started happening I notice the battery drain a bit faster than it used to.
I've tried several different possible solutions, except a reset. I loathe the idea of a reset, but if that's what I have to do then I will.
Running stock version. 2.2
Solution...
I decided to give up on my weeks long search for an answer online and called support today. Figured out it was the ooVoo application I had installed for video chat. It seems to keep your device in this perpetual sync mode even though you're not in that application. Once I deleted it the damned thing went away. My Tab, now with more battery power for Angry Birds.

Not coming out of "Do Not Disturb" mode using an auto time-based rule

I have a rule set to put the phone in DND mode between 11pm-6am. The phone goes into DND mode just fine at the set time, but it doesn't come out of DND at 6am. This started happening with Android N, it used to work on M.
The weird part is that this seems to work OK on a Nexus 5X but I installed Android N fresh on that one, while my 6P got upgraded from M to N. Not sure if it's the upgrade that messed it up, it's a specific problem to the 6P or what.
Anyone else seeing the same problem with DND mode and rules? Anything I could try, short of trying to wipe everything and start from scratch, which I'd like to avoid, I don't look forward to reconfiguring everything.
Thanks for your help.
Having the same problem lately on my Nexus 5 stock with 6.0.1. Some helpful advice, how to solve this issue will be much appreciated.
Yes...
This is happening on my Pixel. Seems to coincide with the Google VR Services package update. This service is listed as having access to the "Do Not Disturb" under the special access settings. (Settings>Apps>(Gear Icon)>Advanced-Special Access>Do Not Disturb access).
I only started having trouble when this package updated, no other changes.
Oddly, disabling the service does not fix the issue, but starting in Safe Mode does, even though the service still shows as running in developer options.
There's another thread, perhaps a kind mod could merge them?

There's a bug filed it seems. Hopefully Google will do something about it. Please vote for the issue to be fixed.

Are you using Android Wear? It seams, that after today's update AW app (version 2.0.0.138705214), problem with DND mode went away. Look at Apkmirror for that version, and please report, if it solve this problem you as well.

That's the version I had installed, but re-installing it cleared the issue for me. Thanks! :good:
Quite interesting. I am now having this same issue. I also have android wear. Stock rooted N. Wear version 2.0.0.138530141. I have an update available to me in Play store so we will see if that resolves.
It seems that the latest Android Wear fixed the issue for me, at least for now. I hope it sticks. Yes, I use Wear.
No problem here. Delete your rule and make a new one.

That never helped me. Trust me, I tried it many times. It seems at least in my case Android Wear was the culprit. Others have mentioned Google VR too. It may still point to an underlying Android bug if apps can break DND.

6T Hates Bleacher Report app

Brand new stock 6T direct from OnePlus - This thing just despises the Bleacher Report app. Constantly giving me notices that it's draining battery. Won't push notifications. Keeps closing the app, causing reloads. I've turned off adaptive battery and I've turned off battery optimization for the app. I've cleared the data and cache, then uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Not sure what else to do. I don't care about battery impact, just want timely notifications and the app not being killed in memory.
Anyone else have this problem? Remedy ideas? TIA
I have the Bleacher Report app and don't have any issues with the battery notifications and force closing, but I did have notification issues. To fix go Settings->Apps and Notifications->Bleacher Report->Notifications. Make sure the notification switch is on, and then select all. You'll get the attached menu. Go to behavior and change those settings. For some reason the default is set to silent.

Yea, I've checked those settings and should be good to go. I don't mind silent, I just want them pushed to the notification shade. Behavior is changeable - sometimes they push properly, other times it will go hours without any pushed. Of course, since I made the opening post here it's been operating perfectly... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That figures. To be honest I don't think it's a 6T thing. I had notification issue with my S8 that I just upgraded from. I think it's an Oreo/Pie thing.

Maybe Pie. I had zero problems on my N6P on Oreo.

You're right. My 6P was good too, but my S8 wasn't. I reverted back to my 6P while selling my S8 to upgrade to the 6T.

Just glad you made a separate thread for this. One of my most used apps on any phone is the BR. I want their notifications the moment they come. And even after setting the notification thing mentioned in this thread, I do not receive it.
The only workaround I seem to have found for now is, to open the app atleast twice a day which probably keeps it in the memory or something and then I receive the notifications. But there has to be another way for it.

I do wonder if this is an OxygenOS issue. The notification options are more limited than pure Android (Oreo) on the N6P, and the OS takes notice if you swipe away most notifications from an app and asks if you want to continue receiving them. It's pretty clear OnePlus has modified notification handling in their OS.
In any event, I can't pass up today's Best Buy offer of $400 off the P3XL. Makes it the same price as the OP6T out the door, so sadly my 6T is going back. The 6T is a very nice phone, but if I can get the Pixel camera, QHD, wireless charging, 3-yrs OS updates direct from Google, etc. for the same price, well...

Haha good for you. But that's the Verizon deal if I'm not wrong. No point for me as I'm from India. Only unlocked phones would work.
Hope the BR works fine on your new Pixel.

Running Paranoid OS on 6T , Android auto issues in car

(i tried posting this thread this morning but the post did not post successfully because of the image verification thing. if this post was reposted, please let me know)
hello and thank you for taking the time to read my first post. been having an issue with my new phone and i havent the faintest idea on how to diagnose or fix my problem. i am in no ways a developer or knowledgeable in programming what so ever, but i have delved in "script kiddie" roots and customs roms with my older phones trying to breathe new life into those devices as an excuse to not have to buy an older phone, but eventually my samsung note 5 kicked the bucket and wasnt able to keep up with the amount of apps and multitasking i do for work. a friend of mine recommended that i buy a one plus 6t as its not only one of the latest phones (okay not the latest, but still fairly new) , but it was also cheap as hell on ebay for about 250$ for a used one with some slight burn-in in the display (the ghost image suggests this unit was a display model, but its a handy phone and i dont care at all).
Anyways, long story short; friend is a big tech guy and recommend that id root the phone and install a custom ROM (A.K.A paranoid OS) for greater usability and security. since he was way more knowledgeable with this phone than i was in the 2-3 days of owning it; i decided to let him go ahead and do it for me.
the phone runs amazing, and ive used it for work for a few weeks now and it has lived up to my expectations and more... except for 2 issues.
the main issue that this thread is focused on is android auto. on my friends phone, it works great! hooks up and connects every time he plugs in the cable, audio smooth, gps and other features i never knew existed with my old phone. my 6t on the other hand, works when it wants to.
it never connects to the radio and tells me that it cant connect through notifications. after some experimenting, i found out that it does connect; you just have to go to "USB Preferences" in the phone, plug the phone in, see the options light up under ""usb controlled by"", then tap on a different option (even though it wont switch) and tap it again multiple times until the phone connects.
once it does connect, it works great. until you start listening to music. the music cuts out every now and then. sometimes for 1 second, 3 seconds, or 30 seconds. its very random. other stuff that happens is that the UI on the radio flickers constantly or disappears and the resolution looks cut off or looks wonky on different sides of the radio. sometimes its one or the other. i told my friend about it, and he tried clearing caches, force stopping the app, even completely removing the google play service plugin and reinstalling it, but still nothing. after he tried it, i had phone hooked up to the radio for work, it worked fine for a few hours until everything froze and my phone went completely black and a bunch of colorful letters on my screen pop up that say "CRASH DUMP". phone reboots just fine and works fine but the issues before the crash still happen.
the second issue is that my fingerprint sensor detects fingers but cant read anything, but thats the least of my concerns and i dont care if it doesnt work.
my friend has no idea what else to do and i am kind of disappointment but i still want this to work. although i have no idea where to start or what to do.
if your willing to help an inexperienced dude get his phone working, that would be greatly appreciated. other than that, i hope you have a good day
EDIT:: just a quick add on to say that ive tried different USB-c cables and this radio is notn aftermarket. im using stock radio on my 2019 nissan altima

I totally agree flash the stock Rom
OOS is amazing. Rooting is easy if you decide you need it.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A6010 using Tapatalk
Does your friend have the the same phone? It is very common that custom ROM works flawlessly on one model but full of issues on the other, even they are from same manufacturer. The stability of a custom ROM depends on how many active user use the rom. Most of one plus users used oxygen. So not so many people could give you answer.
BTW, I would never advise someone to use custom ROM if they don't know how to flash by themselves.
