Restore old app? - Sprint HTC 10 Questions & Answers

I have a Sprint HTC 10 that's htcdev unlocked and stock rooted. Everything works as expected except restoring an older version of maps with TiB. TiB says the restore happened but maps is still at the 9.x version.. I want to get back to my older version that used my TTS instead of that crappy voice the newer one uses.

Try removing Maps completely, then restore the old version.

Will I need to remount /system rw for that? I was trying to avoid that so I could still take an ota.

How to make a backup with stock build?

I have an Aria and I was going to update it to the AT&T Froyo build that just came out today. The phone is not rooted.
If I use Astro to make a backup of my personal data, when I try to load the backup AT&T's restriction message pops up about not allowing third party apps.
So is there any app that can make a backup that does not run into AT&T's sideloading block?

If you root your phone, you will have much better options available to backup your phone. First using ClockworkMod Recovery you would be able to do a full 'nandroid' backup which will preserve your current running system in full and would allow you to revert back if you didn't like something new.
Second, it would allow you to flash a rooted version of the AT&T Froyo 2.2 update and if you didn't like it allow you to restore your previous 'nandroid' backup.
If you simply you a backup app on your non-rooted system and you run the stock AT&T Froyo update, you will not be able to go back.

Well the phone isn't mine, it's my sister's and she usually is petrified when it comes to hacking electronics I know the many benefits of rooting and if it weren't on the stock AT&T build I know this wouldn't be an issue. But is there any other alternative for an unrooted Aria?
I think it is utterly dumb for AT&T and HTC to say "we have an update for you but you will lose your data unless you back it up" and when you try to back it up they don't let you because AT&T has closed off sideloading. Of course this wouldn't be an issue if AT&T themselves provided a way to backup the phone but they do not and thats where my frustration lies.
You won't be able to make a ROM backup because it has no recovery. You can backup apps and then install by allowing unknown sources, or you can move them to the SD. only the phone ROM will be deleted. Not your SD or SIM

But in the Aria they have removed the option to allow Unknown Sources, which is my main problem.
On the last minor update the Aria had, I used Astro to make a backup of the apps and files. After I completed the update, I installed Astro and when I tried to load the backup there was a message that popped up that said the phone could not accept data from unknown sources.
Also, the Aria is on 2.1 right now so I cannot move the apps to SD because that feature is only in 2.2.

They removed it? Maybe it starts in 2.2? Go look on the market for app2sd. Anyways I know liberated FR007 and 8 had unknown sources. 2.1 did not and i don't know about 2.2. Remember if you update to 2.2 through at&t you cannot root your phone as it fixes hboot exploit. There may not be a work around, even though it is your sisters I would think about rooting it if not just to backup your stuff
I am using HTC Aria rooted with clockwork 2.5 and cyanogenmod 7, with hboot .57

Ok I will check out Apps 2 SD and see if that works. As long as I can save the apps without my sis having to go back and reinstall everything it will be worth it.

[Q]How to get back all of your app

Previously I'm on 2.3.2 r800a and my build number ends with .181 rooted, then I update using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116090
so I create a backup using mybackup root, then flash my phone, but then after my screen turns on, I cant find any apps that I installed.. The only apps there is the pre installed apps on the phone.. So I root it using gingerbreak 1.2 then update it OTA. I have now 2.3.3 rooted then my previous r800a became r800i and the last digits of my build number is .185 now.I download the mybackup root to restore it. So basically almost all of my apps are back.. But when I try to run them almost all of the apps are 'Force Close'
So what seems to be the problem? I can't post my queries at that thread right now because my post count is not enough.
I don't know mybackup, but when you restore do you restore apps only or apps and data? Cuz if it's the last option it can cause trouble and fc's, cuz you're restoring on a different firmware build.
Regards Dousan...
I restore it like the way I back it up. Apk's + Data.. Did I do it the wrong way?
Can you choose apps only when you want to restore from mybackup?
Regards Dousan...
This happend to me to on my previous phone and regularly used to upgrade on custom roms and I noticed this only happend when I moved to a higher or lower android version... I think the data in the Apps have 2.3.2 registered so when you have 2.3.3 it probably recognizes it differently so it FCs try restoring data only or try restoring 5-10 Apps at a time rather than all at once (caused some problems at times when I restored Apps with data all at once)

I also try this. I restore it one at a time but still force close. Unfortunately no luck..
I guess I will just uninstall that apps and games then download a new one.
My point was to only install apps and nothing else, cuz it's the data part that messes up the apps in most cases, on a new FW build number. Some apps and games might need an update to work but most should work when just restoring the apps and no data
I haven't had any issues doing it like that.
Well a clean install might be a good thing.

Sir, no app in choices, only apk & data.. Is the apk supposed to be the app? but that's just the installer.. So if I install it I think it will still use the previous data..
It must be the way mybackup makes a backup and restores it. Titanium does it differently when restoring, you get the choice to restore app or app/data. Yes app is the apk.
I think you're gonna go the long way and install your apps from scratch mate and loose the data you've backed up.
You could always flash 2.3.2 (UK generic 1.84) again, then root and restore apps through mybackup. Then install titanium backup and do a full backup through that, then do the OTA again and once booted into 2.3.3 restore through titanium and this time only apps no data.

The update isn't working for me, even after reflashing the stock recovery. Did you have to do anything special to get it to work, or have you not modified the ROM at all?

I had the stock 4.4.3 ROM rooted and with the Xposed Framework installed. No custom recovery or custom kernel ever installed (I always used "fastboot boot /path/to/recovery.img" rather than installing a recovery). The update worked fine for me. All I had to do was (after updating to 4.4.4) go into the Xposed framework installer, tell it to update/install the framework. I installed the 4.4.4 update through the OTA notification I received, not through the link in this thread. For me, the update was 41.1MB not 45MB. I downloaded the OTA over WiFi.
Before I installed the update, I booted ClockworkMod Recovery (again, booted not flashed) and made a nandroid backup. It couldn't backup my /data partition because it's encrypted, so I also made a full backup with Titanium Backup.
Full stock, no mods yet

I had same problem
I was on 4.3.3 stock using exposed installer, I used MotoToolAioV3 to restore stock recovery then took OTA, during install I kept getting an error.
The solution for me was to download stock recovery from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53702274&postcount=268
extract the recovery then use MotoToolAioV3 to flash it, then accept the OTA and it should work, then if you're using exposed installer do what the other poster said and re-install xposed. Hope this helps.

As I understand it, the main changes from 4.4.3 are compatibility with more SD cards, and some security updates to things like OpenSSL. I'm now able to use my 64GB Samsung EVO class 10 (MB-MP64DA/AM).
I managed to get the update installed after completely reflashing to stock (leaving the bootloader unlocked.)

The dialer is not buggy if you enable the animations in developer options (reset them to their default setting).

I turned it off because I hate it
New update is pretty great. Previously on 4.4.3 the radio would drop all connections seemingly at random when starting up a music app or YouTube, but after upgrading to 4.4.4 the radio seems to hold a much more consistent connection with fewer drops (none so far) . I previously thought this might have been a faulty SIM

Try factory reset which you will lose all data, or restore factory image which will also wipe out all data.

Without a logcat there is no way to know what is causing your FC. It is either corrupted data or corrupted Play Store. Did you wipe data in Play Store app?

You forgot to mention, that in another thread of you (which is closed by the way), you tried to install an "illegal copy" of the Play Store (warez!)...
I think, THAT's the reason your legal copy of the Play Store isn't working anymore!
You are "playing" with your device, trying to install illegal things and now, when it's not working anymore, we must help you to find an answer how to get the things working again on your device -> bit strange, isn't it?
1 solution: flash stock firmware again, reset device -> voila!

I realized I only used snap to talk to one person, so I got her number and decided to ditch it lol.
Though what I did was I switched to a pure stock rom Found here (https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/development/pure-firmware-tuff-wip-t3224833) then I was gonna make a titanium back up of snapchat while logged in. Then switch back to the rooted rom we have, and load it up.

What I did because I'm on N and there's no Xposed is just completely unroot and sign in. Then you can reroot and stay logged in. Go get titanium backup and backup your Snapchat data in case you have to log out. Every time you logout and you're rooted, just restore the backup you made of when you were signed it, I can confirm it works because I just did it 10 minutes ago and came to make a post here about it.
I hope this helps.

Reflash your rom you're running (avoid flashing SU or Xposed at all, you can do it later) and first thing you do after getting to the home screen go to the playstore and dl snapchat and login. Should work just fine.
