[F.A.Q]BOLD ANSWERS FROM HONOR TEAM ;They covered Almost all questions - Honor 8 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

Thank you abhishek for making such good post
DISCUSSION POINTS FROM CHENNAI MEET UP
Bold font refers to Honor official’s reply.
1. Charging times – Would be resolved on case by case basis if issues persists.
2. Selfie – Not satisfied with the quality. Compared to the previous generations of Honor smartphones, 8 pro front camera doesn’t impress. Beauty effects seem to bring in more of artificial tones to the face. Can it be tweaked by software?
It is just the matter of device driver tweaking. We can rework on that. Although the sensor generation might vary. We use either Isocell or Sony IMX sensors. Performance might vary. We are already firing bullets to the core team to unify and stabilize the selfie cam experience across all devices. We totally buy this point and it will improve soon.
3. EIS at 60fps / 4k – Can we expect an upgrade? Yes.
4. Heating issues – See point 18
5. Fingerprint recognition integration with pattern – FP goes well only with Pin or alphanumeric
character. Pattern lock can’t be coupled with FP. Especially in bright light conditions or whilst walking, when a memorized pattern is easier to enter than searching for specific areas of screen to enter the pin isn’t convenient.
Honor wasn’t aware of this. They will look into the possibility of pattern integration.
One user pointed out that we have option to “Increase readability in sunlight” under Developer
option as a solution for increasing legibility in bright outdoor conditions.
6. Knuckle gestures - Innovative thing but to an outsider it feels like someone beating and abusing their own device. Why not bring in shake gestures using motion sensors?
We will work on it for future devices.
7. Fingerprint sensor - Can’t gestures be included via the Fingerprint sensor like the Honor 8 had?
Swipe to pull down notification bar and browse photos works great. Would be good if more
options like double tap for screenshot or other shortcuts can be included via the fingerprint sensor. Honor 8 has a clickable sensor and lot of actions associated with it.
Would be taken across to the core team.
8. Double tap to wake up - With the fingerprint sensor located at the rear side of the device, it would be good to have the option of Double Tap to wake up the screen and to lock the screen as well. Most often than not, we receive notifications which do not need immediate attention. In that case, we can just Double tap, see the heads up and decide whether to take it or not.
Honor agreed to our suggestions and would implement it in future updates.
9. Difference between Huawei and Honor- Is there any superiority / inferiority?
It’s the same. Target group varies. Certain things are tested on Honor and certain things on Huawei. Huawei is having a premium position in global segment. Honor is purely a E brand with a E Commerce platform. The portfolio is different. Manufacturing and technical aspects are all shared.
10. Why Huawei P9 was priced so high when launched in India?
It is to keep in line with the Global pricing. 8 Pro and 6x are devices targeted at Indian market to establish a name to move forward. We constantly conduct surveys(and suggesting to HQ) to if it is spec sheet or value for money in a market that counts.
Another challenge is that in countries like Srilanka, Nepal, Middle East, Huawei brand is quite famous. So they illegally import devices. So it is necessary to maintain a balance.
Another key factor – We do not have different portfolio for different nations like other OEMs. We pick and choose what device can be moved into the Indian segment. We are educating the HQ that value for money matters more and in a heavy flow market like India, it won’t be possible to survive if we adopt some “spec sheet specific” sales strategy. Proposition is in the making.
In Indian market, Huawei isn’t being accepted as a consumer brand, even though most routers, switches and modems are manufactured by Huawei. So, we have decided that Honor would be the branding in which we will sell products operated by a E Commerce platform. We do however operate by this byline “Honor-powered by Huawei”.
11. Why in a market like India where data consumption in on the rise did Honor 8 get released with Single SIM and other global variants had dual SIM?
When we make a dual SIM mobile, on certain occasions we could not meet the SAR (specific absorption rate) criteria for Indian market. We need to do some RF adjustments, redesigning of PCB.
12. OIS capability –topic was around the ecosystem of EMUI vs other brands.
We have a closed Ecosystem and a tight integration (through Chipset – E Commerce – EMUI). Rest all OEMs are different because Qualcomm provides chipset to them and they build on it. So its easy for them to realize it. But for Huawei, it’s all in house.
13. When will we move to 7.1.2?
When a OS is ported, Qualcomm gives the base software integration (build) for other mobile manufacturers. So, they just add their own skin on top and fire the version to the user.
With Kirin being an in-house chipset, a lot of re-optimization needs to be done. Even Samsung’s Exynos variant takes some time due to the integration of base software module. So, we try to build an optimal layer where everything that a user needs is in working shape. The update would be released but takes time compared to other manufacturers due to this reason. Android O is expected for this device by end of this year.
14. Mi phones and Mi pads have a huge generation gap but still an old Mi pad runs on a latest MIUI version. So please do keep your EMUI updated across all devices. We find that MIUI is far better in terms of user allowable customizations.
We totally agree that we are lacking on that part and will improve on it.
15. In box accessories - To promote VR, you have given a VR headset within the box but if that could have been ignored and some other accessory like a USB Type C to micro USB or a
earphone had been included, it would be more value for money. Anyway, we can’t use the headset without a securing wrap around the head and is of no added value. Users couldn’t get a TG and Cover for long due to quantum of sales.
We agree. By august end we are relaunching our E Commerce platform and we plan to get all accessories.
16. UFS vs EMMC – Read write speeds using OTG are too low. App launches and system level read
/write speeds are not having big difference.
Real difficulty we face is that UFS availability. We announced with UFS and supply was short so we went into EMMC.
17. Why a single OTA update takes around 742Mb?
Although the visible user level interaction changes are only 3-4, there are loads of kernel tweaks, performance upgrades, optimization, security patches. The changelog / release notes runs up to 8 pages. Can’t be shared as it is confidential (but the stack was shown to us).
18. Does the 8 pages of changelog cover heating issues?
No, it doesn’t but we have received enough feedback and it will definitely be addressed in the
next patch.
19. Difference between Li-Ion and Li-Po
Li-Ion doesn’t offer stretch ability of the cell. Watt hour per liter is adjustable in Polymer battery. Manufacturing costs are high.
20. Private space drains a lot of battery
21. The themes factory is a very good addition to someone who loves customization. There are various options to choose from but upon applying some themes, we do not get notifications on the lock screen.
22. If we try to open a app by pressing the corresponding name underneath the icon, it doesn’t work. Apps can only be opened by pressing the icon itself. This is like a restricted freedom. Please incorporate a feature to open apps by pressing the name as well.
23. Allowance for more apps to be cloned like in MIUI
24. Although there is an option to lower screen resolution to save power, we do not get to know how it works, when it gets effective and to what extent. Can there be more granular control on choosing a specific resolution as per user needs?
25. Apart from bright light conditions and when a strong artificial light source being present, the auto brightness struggles in low / dim lit conditions. There is a lot of stutter and sometimes one has to strain to read under low light. The dynamic range scaling of the auto brightness function can be improved.
Will be looked into.
26. Call recording - why isn’t it integrated into the system?
It’s not legal to have it in the ROM. That’s what we know of.
27. OTA updates roll out
We do planning at a global level. Certain things will be replicated in the global software database, which is our baseline. We tend to see if the global scenario and priority of Indian users are in line and work on specific issues which need to be addressed.
OTA cycle is either a critical patch or a 1 / 3 months cycle. We will only decrease the cycle, never increase it as we plan to keep ROMs bug free. Security patches will come often.
The process of a OTA roll out takes around 1-2 weeks, depending on issues being addressed. We send it to 1-2% of the users and then collect data, bug reports, various logs. We then work on it (if need be) and then release it further to others in batches.
28. We have read online that Honor plans to abandon the lower end segment of mobile phones and plans to go head on with the likes of Apple. What can be expected ahead? Price segment being targeted?
Statement of President of Huawei is that we will start focusing on high end devices. He feels the profitability and value we can give is more on the high-end segment. It’s only the ultra-low end devices that might be ignored and not recent launches.
29. Next region for meet up? Depends on the interest group and quantity of response through the Google form. Most probably Bangalore.
30. Inconsistencies in Camera options /modes
• Some devices lack the option of SLOW MOTION capture. Most devices have it but some don't. A factory reset brings it back but for some it has taken away the option.
• The option of "Always On" flash is read as "Steady On" on some devices.
• When wide aperture mode is used with 2 or more people (separated by a short
distance) in focus, the separation background doesn’t get blurred off.
We will work on this and revert back soon.
31. Will display change from LCD to AMOLED
Will feature in future devices
32. Day Dream feature - Software based and if planned, it would be rolled out
33. Calculator app auto rotates - Point Taken
34. What will the future devices hold - There are 4 surprises awaiting. We are working on pressure sensor based video, knuckle and other innovations.
35. What will the next Mate device have that the CEO says it will be more powerful than the next Apple device – Infinity display (I said we know that, asked for some other insights but they refused to share).
36. Will it be available in Indian market? We will bring it in. If not the exact same product, a similar product for Indian market would be made available.
37. Exchange offer for existing 8 pro users when next mobile releases - It is in the plan. Will be incorporated in our E Commerce platform
38. Smart Unlock with Google doesn’t work – Mainly because in China, they have their own market and do not support Google apps. We will however, take this as a point for implementation.
Honor 6x users were satisfactory overall since it has matured over a period of 6 months. Most 8 pro users had one thing to say in common that they went 8 pro.
We also requested that the next Honor flagship should have a better aperture than 8 pro. With f/2.2 if this device can produce stunning quality images, if aperture is lowered in par with other phones (1.7 is there on most flagships). Only a nod received saying “it will follow”. We will only have to wait and see.
Survey and Marketing - Honor hosts a closed room meeting to analyze and discuss what are the most important aspects of a device that user would want. They have a survey months prior launch, gather insights, understand user’s perception and work on that to come to a conclusion. Top 3 things from that goes into the marketing focus.
Honor India had requested Amazon to give free prime membership for users who purchase 8 Pro but Amazon had turned it down.
A lot of surprises awaits the community before this Diwali.
They asked us to share snaps clicked through the device. We suggested to implement a HASH TAG kind of system that One Plus does to be posted on Instagram and with the quality of this camera the reach would be certain. Would be an incentive driven program.
The UI is not so user friendly as of now and will be reworked by the end of this year.:fingers-crossed:

Damn. I am really excited reading all this. I am really looking forward to the heating issue being solved in future and camera quality to be increased in future.

And it's what is expected from them for this phone. Cause it's their flagship right now.

One week with the Redmi Note 4

Received my RN4 last week, and after spending a week with it I am definitely impressed.
Observations
1. Battery life is the phone's strongest suit. Can definitely get even better SOT if I was more careful using this thing, but fact is this is the first phone I've owned that I only need to charge once a day. (See attachment for SOT)
2. Build quality is solid as well, but definitely not top notch. Seams can still felt, and SIM tray is a bit hard to push in.
3. Display is great. Nothing out of the ordinary.
4. Helio X20 is a solid chip, but Javascript performance is underwhelming. Does not appear to have many benefits over the SD650.
5. Camera is underwhelming, quality is around the level of the Moto X 2014, but PD focus is quick and accurate, unlike the CDAF on the X14.
6. MIUI is not as intrusive as most Western media will have you believe, but I do not like the aggressiveness with which it kills background processes. GSam Battery monitor doesnt work reliably as it always gets kicked.
7. One handed usage is poor. The next model could definitely use smaller bezels on the X axis.
8. I got an update last week for "bug fixes", but was strangely 1.3GB big and took over an hour to download and install.
Overall, for $200, I'm definitely impressed. Can't say I feel a noticeable performance difference with my last phone, the Galaxy S7. Only place I can feel I got what I paired for is the camera.

Thanks for the feedback, I also have an S7 and on the verge of selling to buy either the note 4 or the redmi pro. I know it will generally be a downgrade especially in terms of camera as nothing can touch the S7. But it seems a great device and would let me free up some cash. The redmi pro seems to have a better camera than the RN4 although a bit gimmicky with its dual cams, but both pack nice builds and big batteries. Although I think the RN4's finger print scanner looks better and is in a better location, I'm not really that impressed with the S7's as it still needs to be pushed and isn't that accurate. How do you find audio quality over say a pair of headphones compared to the S7?

Very loud, and decently clean and crisp too. There seems to be some decent audio equipment on this thing, both speakers and headphone, and I suspect there may be a discrete DAC on this, impressive for a $200 device. I went for the RN4 over the Pro for one reason and one reason only: there is an official global ROM out for this phone, while the Pro would require me to install GP package through a third-party solution.
I can definitely say that the FPS is way better on the back. Very accurate, and as long as I don't give it some super-weird angle it authenticates me without fail, quicker and more accurately than the S7.

Great that's good to hear, I assumed there was a global rom for the pro but must have been something else I seen. I had a feeling the finger print scanner was better, I do find the S7's quite fussy and a lot of times I exceed the try limit and have to wait 30 secs[emoji34].
I really do appreciate the camera on the S7, although from the reviews I've watched the RN4 seems to have very quick auto focus and capture speeds. It obviously seems to suffer in low light but no phone is immune from this really only to lesser extents. I generally take most photos outside in good conditions anyway and usually of the kids where a quick shutter is needed. The camera app also seems fast to launch as well which again is an important to be able to snap photos quickly.

Fingerprint scanner really is great. Worlds better than the S7. Location isn't always ideal for when the phone is on a table top, but it is great when pulling the phone out of the pocket. I suspect that the only way to solve this is give people two Fingerprint scanners
Camera launches quickly and focus is reliable. Better than my 2014 Moto X ever was. Shutter is not as fast as the reviews make it out to be, but that may be because I have HDR on Auto, and HDR photos do take a while to process. Outside photos are reasonably crisp, inside the noise starts to become uncontrollable. Remember to go to Settings and select image quality "High" and enable "Enhance lowlight pictures automatically" when you get this phone. Hugely important, as the default Medium setting is too aggressive in compressing.

I have been using RN4 for 2 weeks. And I do agree most of the views.
1. Battery: it seems not that good if you care about the numbers. But the overall performance is pretty good. Playing some 3d games with performance for an hour costs less than 10%.
2. CPU: I don't think this is a big leap as I can't from Nexus 5. The performance is not overkill. And I don't feel anything is super smooth. I guess the reason is that 10 cores are still to much for an Android system to operate with. I doubt the kernel fully utilizes the CPU.
3. Camera: don't expect much on it even though they claimed it's 16MP. The quality is quite glitchy in my opinion. If you really care about the quality of the camera on your phone, consider carefully. Despite the quality, the speed is fine as the focus, HDR and burst mode work perfectly fine.
4. MIUI: I just want a CM. That's it.
5. Price: this is the most pulling reason for me to buy this. You can just switch to a new one if this breaks somehow.
Hello.
My name is Gabriel, from Romania.
I have a redminote 4 since 25 october 2016.
Since yesterday it doesn't display, in the upper right corner, the icon for mobile data - you know, the H, or H+, or 4G or 3G, next to mobile network signal icon.
The mobile data connection is working good, but the fact that the phone is connected to mobile data is not displayed any more.
Is there any setting for this?
Thanks.

No.
I had the intention to perform a factory reset during this weekend, but I didn't, I was too busy with other things.
And yes, is the Global ROM - I have Romanian language (not only...)
Thanks.

A factory reset is probably the best option take first although it is a pain having to backup/ set everything up again.

Hello
I have black screen with my Redmi Note 4 but led of charge work have you some ideas how can i solve this issue?
Thanks
2 weeks here...
I bought the Redmi Note 4 - S625 32 GB version as a replacement for another phone from another vendor, my old phone had the same hardware configuration, but was greatly lagging on performance, battery life and customization.
I have long decided on the Redmi, and have gone through several resources and reviews online, and was so far satisfied with what I read.
I was able to buy it at a discounted price in Egypt (USD 160), this is of course not a bargain for the global price, yet locally it was good compared to other similar devices.
I'll go through every aspect of my experience with the phone and provide you with my conclusion in the end.
The phone comes in a small box compared to other phones of the same size, the phone fits in exactly, with the charger and the charging cable, the extra space could've been better used to add earphones to the bundle, something Xiaomi should consider in the future, is to throw in one of their premium earphones.
The phone size is slim and nice to hold, something that counts for it, considering the huge 4100mA battery, I was unfortunate to buy the black edition, which is very prone to fingerprints and you can never keep it clean, let alone it also seemed scratch prone, I didn't want to risk it therefore the first thing I had to do was to go for a silicon cover.
Also the screen glass is clear with smooth edges, and gives the phone a very elegant look, yet I read it's not gorilla glass, so I had to go for a glass screen protector.
The screen is large enough with some bevel edges that could be improved in the future.
The dual SIM slot is an amazing idea, yet with a bit of better design I guess we can squeeze in a place for a memory card.
The camera and fingerprint sensor are very well placed and nice to use, having the camera non-protruding is a good design point, protecting the camera cover from scratches.
I don't mind the camera being 13MP, it has a clear quality, works well with the camera app, and is quiet responsive, I've seen cameras with higher resolution, but were a pain to operate, so good job Xiaomi.
The screen is clear and pleasant to use, I have even use it to watch movies using a VR box with no problems, it is also quiet visible in the sun with bright colors.
One thing I really liked about this phone, is its battery life, I guess Xiaomi went to great effort to squeeze much power into the battery space, and to optimize the power use by applications, clearly there is a power optimization software layer added to the OS to perform this well, I am a heavy user, having the phone in hand all day with the screen on, reading, watching videos, and streaming internet videos and music in the car all day, using maps and GPS applications, and acting as a Wi-Fi hotspot. Still at night, before sleeping, I plug the charger while the phone is at 40%, keeping me assured that even if I forget to charge the phone, it will remain there for another day of moderate use. BATTERY LIFE ON THIS PHONE IS AMAZING.
I have seen people complain that it doesn’t have a fast charging capability, yet it's no problem with a phone that can withhold its charge for two days.
The good thing about this phone is that it has all connectivity features of other similar phones, except for the NFC, which is becoming a defacto nowadays, though the FM radio is good and launches without any headphone connected, however the lack of RDS is a bit annoying, in addition to the fact that the radio interface is boring and non-themeable, I have posted this suggestion in the MIUI forum.
Software performance on this phone is amazing, and the dual app capability is extra nice, it is better than having the second space activated, specially with the availability of individual app locking capability, I can have my work and personal applications in the same space, while giving my work applications the necessary security level required. This beats all other phones offering second space while hogging the memory and system resources, and affecting the performance.
Also Xiaomi's keeping to its promise of a very responsive MIUI, even with an alternative launcher (I'll come to that later), I'm getting a very good performance, no launch delays, no botchy performance, etc... Which shows that enough effort has been put into OS optimization.
I haven't tried installing a custom OS yet, and this is mainly due to the fact that the factory OS is very well performing and doesn't need further optimization, till now!!
I had to resort to installing a third party launcher (Nova Launcher), since I didn't really like the way MIUI launcher treats the applications, without an application drawer, desktops can become really cluttered, specially that I always test new apps and remove them regularly. This may be convenient for iPhone users, but a no no in our Android world, Xiaomi should reconsider.
A nice addition to the UI is the floating ball, it comes with useful shortcuts, but to change them you have to dig deep into the settings, certainly there should be a better way to do this, still it is a good addition.
The screenshot shortcut saves a shot of the current screen and can later send you to the editing part if you need to crop and edit your shot, it would be better if a crop control can appear when a screenshot is requested, so that we can directly choose which part of the screen we want to capture and share directly.
The phone came with android marshmallow, but as soon as I started using it, a new update with nougat was pushed, I also guess and Oreo version in in the pipeline, still you can have the Oreo taste from any custom rom available for this phone, which are really numerous in comparison to phones from other vendors, I guess Xiaomi should capitalize on this as being one of the most custom ROM friendly phones.
The phone, contacts, and messaging native aps are quiet usable, and so far I haven't faced any problem with them, in comparison to other phones that sometimes struggled with my 1500 entry contact list, the Xiaomi is fully capable of handling such a contact list dispersed among two contact providers (google contact and exchange server), and fully capable of flawlessly handling them.
One small glitch with the messaging app is the inability to delete the newly received SMS from the notification area, something that is usually needed nowadays.
Coming to the notification area, I've seen it better implemented in other phones or ROM versions, where you can get full access to the complete message, and be able control it (delete or reply) from the notification area, I know that in MIUI there is the capability to expand the notification for more details by a two finger swipe, but this is impossible with one handed operation.
The phone also comes with nice extra applications, the security app is quiet useful, and hopefully it does what it promises in the background.
The remote app is also a great addition, making you able to control a vast list of IR enabled devices; yet it should be a good addition to be able to add and customize new non-listed devices, such as for example non-standard android tv boxes.
In conclusion:
I really love this phone and don't regret the investment I put in it, Xiaomi is on a very good track, it should soon reach and surpass market leaders if it keeps building such impressive devices with affordable prices, also having that MIUI forum and its community is a good addition of keeping the users close to the vendor.
My recommendation is to work on the software enhancements requested by the users.
My recommendations to the new buyers, is to install good screen and body protection, stay away from the black version, and invest in a good quality headphones to enjoy your Xiaomi.

Considering Mate 9 to Note 8 - U.S. users, how is it?

I have a international Mate 9 right now, and overall it's pretty great, but I dispise IPS LCD and want an AMOLED screen. The best large screen option available for this year appears to be the Honor Note 8, but the biggest downside is that it lacks LTE support in the U.S. I'm on T-Mobile and have LTE where I live, work, and commute, but don't know how well HSPA+ is covered in those areas. This wouldn't necessarily be my primary device though as I also have a Pixel XL with my main SIM in it.
-How's the performance? The Kirin 955 is quite a bit slower than the 960 in my Mate 9, but I do not game or anything with my phone... just normal daily usage.
-How's the camera?
-Has anyone looked into trying to download/install the Nougat beta? I saw it's available to Chinese users, so hopefully someone can find a way...
-What's the software update process look like? Do OTA's actually come through? If not, how do you manually update?
Had 2 OTA updates already, LTE works fine in UK and Note 8 is very fast the Kirin 955 is still very very powerful with 4 ARM 72's and 4 ARM 53's with 4GB of RAM.
I have a Chinese Honor Note 8 and I'm living in Colorado. I'm using Project Fi from Google which technically uses part of Sprint's network, but I get no LTE. HSPA+ works just about everywhere, and I get maximum 40Mbps download speeds when I have a strong signal. Project Fi puts me on the T-Mobile network, presumably because that's the strongest around here. To answer your other questions:
- The Kirin 955 seems slower than I'm use to. I had a Pixel XL before this and a Mate 8 before that, and the Note 8 seems a bit slower than the Pixel when navigating between apps. It's definitely not the flagship processor for Huawei. That being said, it's perfectly acceptable for every day use. The battery life more than makes up for the less than stellar processor.
- The camera isn't as sharp as other phones, but the amount of options you get make up for it. The Huawei camera app has tons of professional grade tweaks and customizations, as I'm sure you're aware of. But when I snap pics, it doesn't look as crisp as other new phones like the Pixel or iPhone.
- My phone is rooted and unlocked, so I do my updates manually. I'm looking for a compatible copy of Nougat, so if you guys have the link could you please post it?

-I just got my phone today, and on the 4th floor at work, my Pixel XL is pulling 8 Mbps download on LTE, and the Note 8 was pulling 7 Mbps on HSPA+, so certainly a serviceable connection, which is great. Still, LTE is the future and the fact that this phone doesn't support it in the U.S. is kind of disappointing.
-I haven't used the Note 8 enough to say it's really all that slow... actually it seems perfectly adequate. If you check benchmarks, the performance is actually on-par with the Snapdragon 820, especially with multi-core performance. Graphics performance is where the Note 8 falls on its face... terrible, really. It's too bad Huawei didn't make this a more premium device (hence the Honor branding) and tossed in all the new stuff on the Mate 9. Not as smooth as my Pixel XL, but it's not bad
-I haven't really touched the camera either, and likely never will. It seems like it'd be an average shooter at best.
-Rooted and unlocked, are you running B027 or have you managed to update to B029? I thought I read that root/TWRP was not compatible with B029 yet, but if it is, that'd be great. How exactly have you been doing "manual updates?"
-I tried to use the beta registration website for the Note 8 to get my hands on the Nougat beta... wasn't happening. Looking at the translated comments, it actually looks like this is a closed beta test and they already have the number of testers they want. Short of someone from China posting the update for download, I don't think we'll be flashing Nougat until it hits open beta at the very least, if that even happens.
Taking the phone out of the box, I was really shocked at how big it is... calling the Note7, V20, and Mate 9 "phablets" is meaningless now. THIS is a phablet, truly. In fact, I'm going to end up using it as more of a small tablet with cell connectivity instead of a phone at all. I have zero plans to put my primary SIM in it and use it as my daily driver. I'll use it for browsing and media... that's about it. And that's okay, considering the low price, great hardware, and top notch display. I do wish the display got a little brighter (my guess is it tops out somewhere near 400 nits which is great, but not the best for outdoor visibility). It's very close in brightness to my Pixel XL until I use the kernel/root brightness boost mode that blasts the Pixel XL up to 600-700 nits. The whole reason I dumped the Mate 9 for this phone is because it's AMOLED... and it does not disappoint! Plus it has what appears to be an sRGB mode (or close to it) so you don't have to deal with over saturation if you don't want to. Getting it set up was a little tricky at first due to all the app security features built in to EMUI and having to download all the Google stuff, but it's essentially running perfectly fine now. The "small" display scaling option is still way too large to make use of the display, so I used "adb shell wm density 400" and it looks pretty good to me.
I think my only complaint is not being able to disable the stupid brightness reducer that automatically kicks in when you open some apps like your browser (you can force the brightness back up, but it's annoying to say the least, especially when going in/out of Chrome via Google Now). It also seems like a some apps can't use full immersive mode and hide the on-screen buttons?

If you're referring to the automatic brightness reduction caused by apps, you have to manually adjust it higher each time you go into one of those apps.

I have the solution for this. You must put Energy plan (Battery menu) in Performance. Sorry by my poor English.

Overall love

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Motorola Razr (2019), all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Motorola Razr (2019) is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Just watched the video, looks amazing. But somehow it didn't seem like the specs were superior. I love the concept, and I think it's an innovative design that should pick up interest due to the compact nature of the device, but I have concerns about the build quality and performance. In the video, after it is flipped open, you can see briefly a bend in the screen, which makes me wonder if it smoothes out when all the way open. Also, the camera seemed sluggish when using the shake gesture, unless it was designed to have (what I thought was) a noticable delay. The processor speed, the battery size/performance, are things I'm hoping will prove to be above average, to amazing. We shall see.
Oh, also not stoked about it being carrier locked. Not to mention the $1499 price tag.... Yikes!
This its true.
The price is unreasonably high.
I know that some months passed, and meanwhile other flipphones made their path aiming at our pockets & wallets, but I am still enloved of this phone...
I know it's a bad thing, it's overpriced, the specification does not justify this purchase, but I am still waiting for a good chance to put in in my rear pocket.
So far I love mine. Coming from a Note 10+ the only issues I've notice screen color isn't as rich as the Note 10+. But it's not bad either.
Performance is fine. Apps take maybe a half second longer to load, if that. No real sluggishness that I've been able to notice.
Another thing is lack of wireless charging is kinda a bummer, but I just bought a quick charge compatible dock I slide it onto at night.
Battery life is actually good. I typically still have about 30-40% left at the end of a full day.
Granted most of my battery usage is playing free cell on the toilet at work.
Edit: One thing I do think Moto dropped the ball on is when I had a Z2 Force I could use gestures with the fingerprint sensor to operate the back, home and task manager. Once you enabled this it also removed them from the screen unless you were using the fingerprint sensor for security.

Using the one button navigation on the fingerprint scanner isn't allowed for devices which use google mobile services and Android 9. A lot of lost features are because of the requirements that Google puts on device makers and which versions of Android they are ship with. Everyone clamoring for the latest Android doesn't realize that certain options are OS dependent. Image how much less you'd have to physically interact with the screen if you could use the fingerprint navigation. I am sure older prototypes had that enabled but it got disabled as Android versions changed

If you want to go through https://source.android.com/compatibility and see the requirements for devices that launch with a certain OS and devices that update to a certain OS you'll see what I mean. The Z2 Force launched with Nougat and was upgraded to Pie. The rules for how a device is expected to behave when launching with an OS level and when upgrading to an OS level are different. Google didn't mandate things about it's gesture navigation back in Nougat so Motorola was able to implement it as they wished. Required apps at one OS release are different at another. This is one reason why I'm not keen on being first to have the latest android level since things you might enjoy (like Moto Voice) are gone in later releases.

OnePlus 8 discussion, what are you hoping and not hoping for.

I'm surprised I haven't seen any discussion regarding the OnePlus 8. The 7 Pro being my first ever device outside of Samsung universe, I'm extremely impressed and really want to carry on using OnePlus, even though they don't sell in my country ( Australia ) and I have to import it.
I am hoping that the rumoured punch hole display is not real, the screen being completely hole-less is one of the main reasons I change from Samsung over, I am not a fan. Even though I feel like it's true, I'm praying it doesn't have one
What are you most excited for, and not excited for?
Flat screen, but we pretty much know that's not happening for the 8/Pro. 8 Lite is the only one rumored to have a flat screen. Punch hole is annoying, though I don't see it as any more annoying than the notch as long as there's a way to hide it from games, apps, etc like you could on previous models.
Light version means light in hardware. For me all the Lite phones are creap.
Not edge to edge screen is Bleahhhh !
8 pro will have wifi charging and better camera. Issue will be the price!
I would like edge to edge, flat screen. Curved screen is nonsense. 5g works in my network so i don't need wifi (i use it Very rare), bluetooth, nfc, infrared (Never use those). I like a square corners phone. A lighter slim phone.
If the hole punch is on all Oneplus 8 variants then I'm really not interested at all. I'll probably stick with 7pro until another manufacture releases a stockish android experience, with nothing on the screen except screen, and at least 90hz refresh rate, and a decent development community. Oh and under $650 so that counts out pixels to.
My progressive desires: a refined pop-up camera, 90Hz standard refresh rate, anywhere from 8-12GB RAM, latest version of UFS (3.1 I believe), the latest amoled panel from big producers (Samsung especially), continued iterations of OxygenOS, better cameras over time, no 3.5mm jack, a card slot (or 256gb/512gb/1tb storage options that still retain good pricing), Ultrasonic ID fingerprint reader, higher wattage fast charging (like SuperVOOC), no wireless charging (it's a gimmick and unnecessary imho), top-end SD+Adreno chipset, stereo speakers, standard 5G integration (that doesn't spike the price), and a competitive price point.
I know I've just described the OP7Pro with a few alterations but the phone was breakthrough as a flagship and a great base point off of which to build new models going into 2020 and beyond.
Can transform into a drone...
every single leak i've seen has a hole punch which means I'm absolutely not interested. I am absolutely stunned OnePlus would be so stupid to go from a fullscreen phone that is heralded as one of the best ever and move to a hole punch thinking that is an upgrade. so disappointed

I'm on the same boat.
Punch hole display is deal breaker to me.
As for alternative only Xiaomi MI MIX 4 could bring full screen experience in 2020 without thouse nonsense punch hole, notch etc and despite non stockish Android out of box, but after oneplus xiaomi devices have the second strongest development community and support.
Google Pixel phones is not at my choice Btw.

I check for news on the Mi Mix4 and found that it too looks like the punch hole will be present
I don't want a phone with a punch hole camera, makes me sad OnePlus is going down that road.
punch hole does not break it, but curved screen - yes. that is a dealbreaker.

Hoping for a persistent notification LED in some form (due to the LED itself being removed in phones these days) - for those times I don't hear my phone go off.
I'm not going to change my habits i.e. pick up the phone every 5 mins to see if I missed an important text, no. I'd rather just quickly glance at the phone without switching it on.
Waiting for OP8 but is it possible to buy it during this quarantine period...? But the reach of Oneplus 8 series will be huge as all of people are sitting home and scrolling news feeds...

OnePlus 8 Pro - QA Recall - user request!

Do you think that OnePlus 8 pro should be recalled due to quality issues? Please vote on top of the page.
- Reason number 1 - Display: color shift, green tint, black bar form punch hole
- Reason number 2 - waterproof issue
-
I don't think a recall is wanted for OP ( or any manufacturer ) we all have warranty and can claim it when issues surface like you described.
My device isn't suffering any of the issues you mentioned though I must admit I didn't drown my device to see if it's ip68 water resistant.
I do like to add a third point to your poll
3: they should fix issues like 5G, dual SIM, Google AR and PhotoChrom ( and others in forgetting ) as these were selling points they didn't deliver (yet )
So far my device is not having issues...
Not one issue at all.
A resounding no I'd say.
Issues aren't prevalent on a high % of devices, it's a small % of devices affected, no more than any other phone. Probably less.
I didn't received newest update, but if they did nerfed IR camera than massive recall should happen, we did pay for that peace of hardware and they're removing it now.... They can't fix things, and they're just making this phone worst... I am fully disappointed in this phone and manufacturer, they are not capable to compete versus other flagships, just buy OnePlus up to 500$ and you should be fine (I hope so).
Oneplus 8 Pro is the worst flagship phone that I ever had, basically no support at all, slow development, etc.

So you're telling me you bought the phone just for an IR camera? Then has to be the silliest thing I've ever heard. All you need to do is root your device and you can go back to an earlier version of the operating system or you can just install the magisk mod that makes the camera operable again. By the way I have had my phone in the pool and in the ocean so as my wife. Had sand all over it and it even overheated a few times but it was 90-plus degrees outside. You must have gotten another or something perhaps a refurb?

I am OEM user - so No root, no additional applications that will add some functionality,
camera is not important for me, for me the most important is user interface, screen, performance and battery.
Performance are TOP
Battery is TOP
Screen is garbage (I don't care if other brands have "problems" with 120hz OLED screens) I do have a problem! screen during the night is TRASH
User interface is not in class of flagship device, it's in class of mid range "flagship wanna be" phone, I had to disable almost every single status bar icon (they are ugly as ****)
Do you think that is normal to have LED light around punch hole camera and not to have notification light out it ? (your answer: please root phone and you will have it... LOL I did pay for premium device, not for developer edition device).

If you have a problem with your screen, send it back for replacement. Many of us here have no issues.
You bought the phone without knowing about Oxygen? It's the fastest and must fluid UI out there. If you wanted to be bloated with a ton of features you won't use, pick up a Galaxy device. That's just not what OnePlus is. People buy OnePlus because the the exceptional hardware and closer to stock Android experience. That's exactly what we got with the OnePlus 8 Pro
