[F3211,F3213] [Nougat] Kernel from source for fix brightness is too high at low level - Sony Xperia XA Ultra Guides, News, & Discussion

My XA Ultra has been upgraded to Nougat version about two weeks ago, everything's all right but its brightness is too bright at low level (mean 0% brighness level bar + Adaptive Brighness disabled). At first, for fix that issue, I used Lux but I quickly discovered that Lux can't fix brightness because It actually just creates a filter on the screen and sometimes Lux freezes the screen. And of course, the battery still drains very fast and my eyes get tired of using it
Therefore, I have built a new kernel with some modifications for fix this issue. I have been working on it for 2 days, and nothing happen, everything seems to work fine. So, I'm happy for sharing this kernel to anyone who meet this issue. Please, protect your angel eyes (if you dont want to wear the thick glasses like me)

P/S: Sorry for my poor english, I just switched to it for half a year.

Main concern
My main concern lately is that going forward onto nougat, makes it so i'm not able to flash the DRM fix, Granted i never really noticed a difference without it. But im glad this kernel exists now cause dang that sucker is bright on low!

I think you shouldn't have to bother about DRM fix with XAU, I'm not really realize the difference before and after loss DRM with it (Display, camera and sound same quality) . In my other Sony phone, Z3+, it is easy to recognize the big difference after loss DRM. The reason may come from the cpu of devices. For example, XAU used a stupid cpu - so taking and saving one photo from camera is very slow. With Z3+, I can shot of multiple photos in a second.
Their product is no longer really good and their price is not competitive. That's why Sony is losing a lot of customers in my country. If anyone bought a new Sony smartphone which costs about $300 today, next day that smartphone would lose value in half whether it's still in warranty or redeemable. But that won't happen to the Iphone or Samsung smartphone ...

Yeah thats a shame. Sony had a good run. I'v boughten the X-P, XZ and the xa ultra, the only one i find usefull now days is the xa ultra. Kinda seems like no matter what sony does, they just cant seem to climb out of their hole they are in. I remeber the days when i got my tmobile z3. Fanciest phone I'v ever had. Since then nothing has really come close. The XA is good but having to rely on split adoptable storage gets old. Marshmellow liked to randomly corrupt the SD card. But nougat is behaving fairly well!

I am really happy that this brightness issue have taken noticed and is fixed. :good:
But I am really sad that i could not make any modifications to my XAU because of my Locked bootloader and at Rooting status "NO"
I was lately browsing up some searches and sites for me to be able to flash this fix even with a Locked Bootloader /Status at "NO" like unpack repack sin files..
I was hoping for someone could care to help that may repack this boot. img to
.sin file hehe
and anyway ill continue to search some more and try to find a way to flash this fix.. :cyclops:

As far as I know, there is no way to convert Img to Sin now. Unfortunately when you can't unlock bootloader, you shouldn't try to flash a kernel ... your device can be bricked. :highfive:

Also a fix for stamina mode would be great. You know, after enabling and disabling stamina, touch goes crazy and you have to touch the same spot 5 times otherwise phone doesn't recognise it.

Yes , Sony XaU has a good display screen but the touch panel is not good.
We will probably have to wait Sony fix your issue, it seems to come from Synaptic Firmware, that thing is very difficult to fix.

speaking of display fix did anyone notice that touch seemed to be slowed or delayed. Especially Notices this after adoptable storage. I love the XA ultra but with my XZ laughing at the xa's speed it's a pain not being able t o use it. Love the XZ but tends to over saturate photos and the XAU is pretty dang good. What do you guys do for storage? Pick and choose apps, or adoptable stoarge?

With my XAu, the touch is pretty smooth even thought couldn't be better on an iphone. Yes, unfortunately this only happends before adoptable storage or using a fastest SD Card. So, the best solution that I can think of is buying a MicroSDHC class 10 , voted for Samsung Pro Plus 32GB because my Xau is using it

How do you flash this kernel?
With flashtool or with twrp?
any particular procedure i should be aware of?
Thanks in advance.

May you guide how to modify the kernel?

Hello,
When i flash this je Enel it avoid / cancel root with magisk, or make bootloop
Any fix ???

Anyone can help ? please

I'm laso facing the same issues on my F3216 can't tried multiple app on play store but couldn't find any solution it's very irritating can't use my phone more than 10min.

well, was using magisk v14, flashed as you said with twrp, my whole data is corrupted. thank you

Resultes in format, flashed stock ftf, and flashed ur boot from cmd, it works now but all my games and data are gone due to adoptable storage

Can i flash it for my F3216 Nougat?
##Update:
I flash this kernel to my F3216 by fastboot on PC and it's work!!

thick glasses mode initiated!
since it's too risky to unlock bootloader on this device
but anyway.. great job mate!

Z3+ Still Overheating Post Update

Hi all,
I've just picked a Z3+ and was hoping the update had resolved the heat issues. Sadly not.
The phone is always hot, not warm, hot. I've got nothing running in the background and even just using text, maps or music is causing extreme heat problems. In the camera, same thing. I don't care about the AR Mask, but I don't to use the standard camera for more than 5 pictures at a time. The 4K video works, but the heat is ridiculous. How Sony let this release is beyond me.
Anyway, to the point. Is there something I can do to reduce the heat? I don't want to root or install another ROM really. Ideally I would like it swapped out if this is not an issue for other Z3+ users.
Has anyone continued to have issues after the update to 28.0.A.8.251?
Very frustrating from a £500 phone!
did you tried a repair trough sony PC Companion ?^^

I'm totally agree with u, a "flagship" phone shouldn't be unable to make something easy like take a couple of photos or browsing (or use XDA app while charging and see how battery going down) because ridiculous overheat...
The only way at this point is try to repair through PC Companion or make factory resets until the phone works better....
Personally, is very frustrating install and configure all apps every wipe (w/o root "backup and restore" from pc companion sucks), but is the only way at the moment.... I have dual version and last update bring back to me overheat and radio active bug (after three repairs), but I'm tired to download all apps again after a downgrade... So I'll just let it be xD
Sent from my E6533 using XDA Free mobile app
Hello,
One month ago I bought the Z3+ dual sim through Amazon.com and I'm using it in Spain with Vodafone and Movistar service providers at the same time.
The first thing I did (following the advises from this forum) was restoring the phone's firmware with the last available firmware through PC Companion. A few days after doing it, the very last firmware was released by Sony and available again through PC Companion.
With the stamina mode on, the phone is never hot. It's warm when watching YouTube videos, surfing the web or using the camera. But the phone is never hot, and not even warm when the phone is on stand by mode. In my case the battery lasts up to 2 days with up to 4h of screen.
Did you try to restore the firmware to factory settings?
Good luck!
What you could do is root the phone (there is an auto-root kernel in the Android Development section).
After installing it I got rid of some of the Sony applications on my Z3+ and it's working fine so far without Stamina mode or any other battery saving mechanisms (only the built in battery saver at 15% and the Sony one at 10%).
Not getting too hot as well, only a little bit warm to the touch but not too bad during normal use.
I had the same problem i updated first then still hot. So i did a factory reset and everything went fine until i started installing apps. So the phone got hot again, and i started to force close apps, put stamina mode on took away autosync everything that had with battery and background to do. Så the heat was gone until i started to use apps. There was this one app that basically did the overheat that was causing the heat. Everything time i used it the phone went overload so i uninstalled it, now everything is fine. So that's what i went through for the phone to work properly. I hope it helped you or gave you a hint at least.

Didn't notice any difference in recording quality on mine and quite frankly I don't really care for the Sony stuff, because I don't see that much value in it for myself since I don't use any other Sony products. But that's just me.

Phab 2 (not pro/plus) root reports (none yet)

just got my Phab 2 from lenovo today. trying various methods and will report if anything works.
kingoroot - no
Well just made it through my first day of using the phab 2.
Some good, some bad.
Battery life is not what I expected. 100% to 50% from 10am to 8pm. Moderate usage, Waze navigation for about 10 minutes. I came from a Huawei mate 2, so my standards are pretty high.
Some glitches setting up Bluetooth with Microsoft sync. Would not reconnect after initial setup without turning car off. Although, I will note that sync has had its own issues.
No root means no app settings, everything is too big.
The stock launcher is outrageously boring and not customizable. I could not find any real settings to adjust icon size, or even to change icons.
Now for the good:
Overall Android build is very stable and quick, no hangups with many apps running.
Display is very crisp for being a low-end model, and includes settings to adjust tone and color intensity.
Very little bloatware.
Camera is actually pretty good. Not perfect, but ok for 200$.
Plenty of good comments about 6.0, as I came from 4.3, but I'll spare the entire Android review.
But, this is what makes me never want to buy a Lenovo phone again. I called lenovo to get some basic specs on this phone that were not verified online. I went through 10 minutes of automated dialog and 5 different phone numbers. No one knew who to talk to about this phone. They're so focused on the big customers that they forgot to provide any support for what may be their biggest seller? On top of that, the guy I finally got in contact with at technical support was baffled that I would call about something other than a desktop or laptop, and did not have the information about this device on hand. This isn't a problem, as I got what I needed, but it almost seemed like no one was aware that this device was even available yet. Nothing in their support site references it, no real technical detail available, etc.
Anyways, I digress. There aren't many other 6.4inch phones available, so I can't complain too much. Overall, Im enjoying the experience. Plus, it gets attention.
Where did you get this... I've been looking to get one but haven't found a source...I'm assuming you're saying battery life is weaker than on the HAM2? Thanks again

Directly from lenovo. Yes, but the ham2 is pretty much the top tier in terms of battery life.
After a few days with it, I can go all day with Bluetooth Pandora, 2+hours straight of screen on time, 30 mins of Waze and have 40% left. I'd say it's doing pretty good for a standard phone. A few issues I've had are, the stock alarm app notification gets stuck and cannot be dismissed on occasion. A restart fixes this. Bluetooth AND Microsoft Sync have to be reset when a failed connection happens (this also occurred on my ham2, but only once every 2 months. This is once a day.) There are always 2 network icons in the notification bar for some reason.
On the up side, the camera has proven to be excellent in standard lighting. Pictures take a while to 'click.'
Touch response is very clean, will say I'm impressed with either the phones accuracy or androids ability to detect where a touch was meant.
My biggest pet peeve is also one of my favorite features. The navigation buttons are so dim that you can't see them in the daytime, but they're also so close together for such a large phone. But, this gives you plenty of room to grasp the phone without exiting an app by mistake, or bringing up a menu midst message.
Anyhow, I'll gladly answer any questions anyone has.
Thanks for the info... Lenovo doesn't have a place to order it yet for the U.S., at least that I can find.
Here ya go:

I'm expecting mine today/Monday. Can't wait to get back into a proper-sized large phone. I've missed them since I sold my Sony Z Ultras...
Yeah I saw them on sale now, thanks. Can someone who has one please post a full Antutu benchmark score with 3D? The reports I've seen on the MTK8735 suggest a benchmark of around 31000, which isn't terribly impressive, but I'd like to see it on this device specifically. Thanks!

How are the AR features? Any of them useful?
this version does not have AR features. You're looking for the Plus/Pro or w/e.
We're going to need to get a read back of the ROM from SP Flash tool to get root I think. What we really need is a TWRP build. I've tried quite a few variations for our chipset but haven't found one that even remotely boots yet.
hopefully we some others engage. i've got stuff I need to do with this phone, a few of which require root access of some kind.

I hope you find a way to root phab 2. Why would they lock down the fastboot? Isn't the android open source? Slowly becoming like iOS.
fast boot isn't locked down, nor is the boot loader (once you unlock it). The problem is none of the MTK tools that I have are working like they are supposed to.
I've started a DEV thread with the stock images attached. Perhaps someone else will have better luck

My device is from Philippines. I unlocked the bootloader, but from recovery I cannot access bootloader. Device would not let me choose bootloader even though has the option, and from fastboot reboot, the device would not reboot.
the boot loader IS fast boot. Lenovo devices are notorious for allowing you one fast boot command per boot into the loader.

what do you mean by one fast boot command per boot into the loader?
You can only issue a single fastboot command before having to reboot back into the boot loader to issue another.

sony z2 in 2018.

any one will and still use his sony z2 in 2018 , and why ?
YES because it works perfectly fine and has the developer community support
of course, I actually just upgraded to it from Xperia SP, it has a great CPU, a decent GPU and it still has amazing support here on XDA, we are getting a stable Oreo soon, and I bet we will get android P as well. It even has a very stable MM stock ROM (6.0.1 is the most used android version as of today) the only downside for me is the front facing camera, which was a good choice back in 2014, but now it's definitely not a good selfie camera, I will keep using it I guess for at least a year (or two) before getting enough budget to buy a year flagship...
Yes
Of course because it works like charm even in 2018 and it has brilliant developers that keeps this phone alive with their support

any way to root it without downgrade or use flash things ? like with a soft in my pc like i did with my dead LG G2 ?

I have had mine since it came out. People are still amazed by it. Sure it has drawbacks but for what it was when it released it has aged extremely well. It's the best phone I have ever had for sure.
Me I have one I rooted it and unlocked bootloader and have existenz rom on marshmallow 6.0.1 and I have a 32gb external SD as internal storage so I have 48gb of free space for apps but 11for OS so its 37gb. And my camera is very good and my phone just blazing fast. Why do I need a new phone? This will be my beast for few next years. I may change it when I feel the need of it or just a big change in phone market happen.

Easy but not very good. (*DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK*)First you need a rooted device second you need app2sd I found it on Google play. The one with a blue droid and an external SD image behind the blue droid. Anyways. I just made an adoptable partition of 25gbs because I can't make more than 95% of the SD card as internal. After that you need to reboot and next you need to repair it the same way you created it but this time select repair. NOTE: creating the partition will erase everything on your SD Card even if it was 1 gb partition. Anyways after repairing you can go to storage in your phone settings and tap on the internal storage partition of the SD card theb tap the options menu and migrate data and confirm it. And now you have more storage than normal but not 100% of what you have for example I have 25gbs from the SD and 16 from normal storage. But I don't really have 41gbs of usable space. But I'm sure that I'm using more than 20gb for my apps only. Anyways some apps may get fps drops or stutter you can move them manually to internal storage (not the partition) to get rid of any stutter in that app. It's not necessarily heavy apps that gets that stutter. For example I had a light game that has stutter and gta sa hasn't any of it.
Thanks, (*DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK*)
If you want to know where did I get that knowledge it started from rooting the device which was from Android doctor youtube channel and I asked him about that and he suggested me to try app2sd it may help and after i've tried it I could make it real that my external SD card works as internal without downgrading to Android 4.0 kikat just wanted to say thanks to him because he helped me in an important thing of mine. I can still type but you'll get bored, good bye my friend.

I used this guide to root stock .291 https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/recovery-root-mm-575-291-lb-t3435214
You will need to install flashtool on your PC but it's easy enough - the only issue in regards to that is you may have to "disable driver signature enforcement" to install the drivers depending on which version of Windows you're using. If you need any help just ask.
Right now I'm running latest eXistenZ ROM (had to do a fresh install from Stock as was having issues) with EliteKernel v3, kernel UV -50mV to reduce some heat and give better battery life.. Also some tweaks to make it more like my XZ which had stock Nougat - latest Xperia Home app + Serajr Xposed + DPI changed to 400. Finished off with Cyberian camera mod and Viper4Android and my Z2 is probably better than the XZ!
but mine its 6503 those are 66** ...

They do slow the device and those apps also contain annoying ads when you're in the app but if you have low storage you can use them to benefit of external sd cards with lots of storage. i think my problem is only with migrating data which makes everything primarily installed on the external sd which slows the phone because its acting like its holding the OS. Or its mainly slow down caused by the app.

Anyone else simply happy not rooting this phone?

When I bought this phone two weeks ago I was excited at the prospect of rooting it so that I could install my "goto" root apps.
I pondered it for several days and was about to root yet another device and I changed my mind. I find I am enjoying Oreo just the way it is and for me this is a nice change. I tend to root/jailbreak everything immediately. In the end flashing rom updates and fixes actually started to give me anxiety. I found myself dreading updates and it was becoming a real chore and wasn't fun anymore.
Anyone else enjoy this phone without tinkering with or modifying it?
Yep same here, been having this from last year and half, the verizon variant.. Though rooting this is pain and all but just like you I was too. Much into rooting and flashing.
This phone as it is, is awesome enough.

It is an amazing device. The only reason I rooted it was to remove the screen retention with a custom kernel and ckal support. :good:
One thing, is there any way to increase refresh rate without rooting? Just thought about this for some reason.
With Oreo I do not feel the need for root anymore.
On Nougat I used root for KCAL, build.prop mods for 16bit.pcm.offloading & zero shutter lag and also mods for stereo speakers & no throttle.
But I've yet to come across any burn in on Oreo, maybe they fixed it by recalculating the default KCAL values?
They've also fixed the issue of 44.1Khz audio being output as 48Khz through the DAC.
Could also be placebo but I find the DAC to perform better now on Oreo.
I'd love to have zero shutter lag & stereo speakers but that's just a mild annoyance hardly anything to worry about.
The weird thing is that my performance have seeming increased going to Oreo from having the performance mods on Nougat.
The left picture is on Nougat and the other one on Oreo.
Now that I think about it, silent camera would be nice for the default camera. If the setting is there I can't find it. Thanks for the side by side. Interesting.
Yeah, I don't need to root this thing either. I have had this almost a year now. Upgrade to Oreo, and now happier then ever.
May be in future once we Pie ROM with second screen feature, I will think about it.
I used to have a Samsung Note 5, and rooted and flash plenty of times. But, it was a pain to keep up with updates. I learned my lesson to not root Android.

I imagine this is how most get out of the rooting game.
There has to be a serious need to do so and not just for the sake of it.
Though i still believe unless you gain admin rights over your device you do not own it.

First time not rooting in about 10 years, running Oreo and so far everything is good (battery life, performance, features). I haven't even re-installed Nova Launcher, the home with app drawer has been good enough.
The one thing I'm missing is forcing it to 3g/CDMA since I'm on Verizon and where we live in Colorado, there is more and stronger 3g towers than LTE so I've always saved a lot of battery by locking to CDMA and not hunting/swapping for LTE towers. I'm mostly at home so I've got wifi for any real data needs. So other than that one thing, I haven't had a real need to root. So far...

If you have your msl you can force 3g or you can install Xposed and I think there's a module for that. Inteli3g
This is the first time I've rooted a phone for a while, due to the screen retention issue. Else, stock or AOSP unrooted is enough considering most features are available these days

Thanks for replying, I've been trying to get into the field service menu for the last couple of days but will probably have to call VZW and try to convince them to give it to me.
Re: Xposed, since that requires root, that was the one reason I miss having root (Xposed to be able to force 3g, that's how I did it on my old rooted phones).

That wasn't my experience with Oreo on my H918. Perhaps I need to try it again. As I recall, I still had screen retention issues, which is what ultimately led me to rooting my phone to use KCAL. I would really like for this phone to NOT be rooted.

Close to two months after my quoted message I can tell you that my phone do indeed suffer from screen retention. The first month i.e up to sometime in February I did not notice any screen retention - but since having sold my computer and using my phone for much more it has started to reveal itself.
It's only visible in one app, and that's Discord with its dark gray background and the 'retention' is that of the keyboard close to the edge of the screen.
Considering the circumstance around my screen retention, that for now, my V20 is my main 'machine'. I'm not that bothered by it, I have a PC coming in next week - and if I remember I'll tune in some weeks after it has arrived and update whether or not it's gone(with decreased usage).
For me I had had enough with screen burn and rooted this phone in last December.

Yeah, I realized I dug up an old post. Sorry about that.
I may have to try running my phone in a stock form to see how bad it really is. I'm running into some weird issues with, presumably with Magisk, and I want to unroot my phone. The only real reason I can't is because of the screen retention issue.

See, mine will show retention minutes after being booted. For example, after a fresh install of a ROM, be it LOS or Stock, I'll start noticing ghosting before I can get into the color settings or Kernel Adiutor to make the adjustments... that's just from the time in TWRP and the booting. I guess everyone's phone it a little different.

Mi 9T Review - Your opinions?

Hello everyone, recently i picked up mi 9t. What a phone...
I can say that i am more than satisfied with how phone performs and what i got for 300 bucks. I decided to make a short video review and give my opinions about it. I am decent user which means that i am usually using my phone to browse around the web, instagram, watch youtube and some movies. I would be more than happy if you can give me your opinions and if you have any question do not hesitate to ask me. Also, i will make some ROOT/TWRP/ROM review videos so support is more than appreciated. Have a great day everyone!

I really think the Mi 9T is a great phone with the latest Urnyx Gcam without unlock the device. This phone takes beautiful night photos and using astrophotography setting compared to Miui's camera. It has been about 7 days that i own the Mi 9T. With certain reviews i have seen about how Miui's bloatware (and google) crippled the battery life can perform and by using this phone in real time. I think the phone can truly shine with custom rom or by using Miui EU Rom's. I have the 6GB version and this phone is running very smooth. Messenger can be hit or miss when answering, the front camera tends to not pop up at time. (So far 3-2 ratio of the camera popping up verus not) I jave not try gaming because i use my Mi Max 3 for that and also to keep the integrity of the Amoled display. As far as youtube goes, few videos take full potential of the whole display ratio and some not. When it does, the display is amazing.
That is my opinion about this phone. Tomm. i will be able to unlock and use the Xiami EU finally and can go further on what can this phone do.
For Xiomi.EU to work.. just format data and then enter "yes". If not force encryption will stay on and the phone will be rebooted back to TWRP Recovery. Also don't mount system when installing magisk.

Yeah, indeed.
I am also very curious how Roms are working and what can mods improve in terms of speed and battery. I cant say its not good but i think that this phone can do atleast a bit better in those terms. I applied for bootloader unlock 2 days ago, i will need to wait 5 more so i can unlock my phone and get my hands on rooting, installing twrp and so on. Ty for ur opinions.

Well i am going to use Xiaomi.EU first. I don't like the custom roms only because the gestures have lines appearing at the bottom and the bottom sides of the screen. Can only make the side arrow gestures dissappear only, on that note, i swtich to Xiaomi.EU for full finger gesture w/o them white lines appearing.
I would recommened Extended Ui Rom if you want to go in that direction.

Yes I would agree with your ROM choice from reading on XDA, but what about full screen gestures (I think it's called) in magisk modules? Doesn't that remove the lines at the bottom and make it MIUI like?

I have not tried any magisk modules except for YouTube Vanced Black. I found the module, i guess i can try it out once i switch to a custom Rom.
Yes, the full screen gesture works.
Can confirm i really prefer the device.
Owned couple of flagships like the oneplus 6, but i like the mi 9t a lot more. The full screen is amazing and everything just works and is fast enough... Even the battery outperforms every device i owned. The phone is a bit on the thicc side... But that isn't a bad thing.
For the price, you get more for the money.
I had one screen failure, that resulted in sending it back and received a new one after the same weekend. Suffered from "ghost touches" in the area where the statusbar sits... After a couple of days it resulted in screen failure considering the top area unusable. Now i got the new one running no problems, even the fingerprint is faster.
I have been rooting around, runned HavocOS 2.9. i really liked the rom but i preferred stock due to slightly less battery drain. The downside of rooting this device is that there is a lot of stuff scattered around xda and the rest of Internet with not the best description about for which version its made for (redmi or mi 9t) or what it modifies or does... Which resulted in flashing a stock rom that made my phone think it was a Redmi K20 instead of a Mi 9T... It did boot tho.
Now i don't do much anymore with toying and flashing around like i used to. i just use audio enhancements, certain themes and adblockers. I mainly use the phone for whatsapp, youtube, android auto and music.

After I saw notch of OnePlus 6 I understood
Thought it was tear drop notch but more like iPhone, but still.... Pretty impressed to hear that!
Looks like good customer service too, I haven't even unlocked it, it's fine for me and will personalise more when I unlock it like to icon, nothing too major cause like you I prefer stock. Better battery life is all it take for me, if the ROM is not a trash experience of course.
For me it was manageable to navigate through the threads and see what's up.
Oh and also about the description I believe it is meant to run on both, and Dev decides it to be named K20 or Mi 9T depending on their device... I'm pretty sure if you asked them to change to your device's model name they would be more than happy to help out.

The notch on the oneplus 6 was not even that bad, i liked that phone but battery life was not good enough, and i go to a lot of festivals so battery is important, and sound recording quality which also sucked.
The Mi 9T on the other hand succeeded in everything i want on a phone. Android auto works, music is good, wireless audio also, battery is very good, recording quality in both sound and video is good enough (seems cheaper devices can record more bass ).
I am not going to bother with the devs, staying stock with a few magisk mods which is enough
Btw for people trying to flash stuff on this phone, make sure to read on about encryption because it can screw you over when flashing goes wrong. And maybe use a USB OTG (or something similar) so when you soft brick your device you can still flash stuff in that way... If you're usb drive isn't encrypted
By the specs one might think that this is a great phone. Actually its the worst xiaomi phone i ever had (and i had a few). I am really disappointed by it, mainly because of the software. Many people have issues with battery drain. Mine is randomly crashing, no idea why. Sometimes it suddenly drains the battery completely within 1 hour, randomly, without any announcement. My girlfriend told me once that she tried to phone me but it woas not possible. I did not believe her first. I had no notifications about missed calls. A few weeks later i got a SMS from my mailbox service - 13 people failed to phone me.
It could be a great phone but you cannot rely on it. So it's basically useless.

I don't know if you are on stock software... But maybe try to reset or re-flash its stock firmware those problems can go away. I have no battery drain, no problems with calls either, maybe you got a faulty device like i did.
I have no problems with my device, besides returning it for screen failure once and it got replaced within a few days.

I agree, i actually miss my Note 5 Pro (6 GB version). The camera on the Mi9t has GREAT specs but it don't take too much better pics than the Note 5 (both without GCAM). Not to mention that most cameras are useless, only 2x zoom is not good enough and the other cameras are too much of a low resolution that make the pics even worse (so the cams are useless). The popup camera sound as a dream, but it isn't. It already gave problems to me (and many others) and the ONLY fix is to re flash the persist partition, where we lose DRM for Netflix. The popup also make the phone too heavy and thick for my taste. MIUI actually run smoother on the Note 5 than on the Mi9t, the community also is bigger still on the Note 5 so we have MUCH more ROMs and mods... This device has still buggy TWRP on backup and restore plus decryption error on TWRP. The amoled screen also has terrible color calibration. Oh and the fingerprint sensor is the WORSE i ever had
I'm not too happy with it. One thing i learned with the mi9t is to NEVER buy a smartphone with moving parts, either popup cameras or folding phone. It is asking for middle term problems.

That isn't a small problem, though.
Also about flashing, i see many people who brick the device for no reason
Well, had it for 2 months and sold it, and got a used Mi8 instead. I couldn't stand fingerprint scanner which is really not so good, and battery life was ok but not good enough for a 4000mAh capacity. Even with debloating, dark mode etc. there was always some drainage. Mi8 is a lot more optimized in my opinion.
Recently I dropped my Mi8 and broke the screen, and decided to skip Xiaomi for the time being due to Miui 11, which looks nice but it's animations are overkill, and they are really annoying.
Got Huawei Nova 5t instead (although I hate Huawei), but it's the one of very few devices that still has physical fps scanner, and can easily get up to 10 hrs of sot.

Good choice. Sadly, perfect device doesn't exist. I would prefer Samsung with snapdragon (in my opinion OneUI is the best skin right now), but they are too expensive. I've been checking out the new S10 Lite, seems good, probably fps sensor is cr*p as in all Sammy phones, but who knows...
The only two downsides I can think of is camera crashing in pro mode and screen which got scratched with a fingernail
What can I say about this device is that I have some mixed feelings about it... The phone it's amazingly fast, I can do anything in a few seconds, but I have a big drain on the battery... I tried every ROM possible, any battery tips, nothing seems to help me, I can barely get 4h SOT with mi band 4 constantly connected, wifi/mobile data always on, location on... Other people are getting 7-8h SOT and I can't get more than 4h SOT... I'm somehow disappointed at this chapter but I really enjoy the smoothness of this phone, the amazing photos taken by the gcam, and the support of the community. Overall it's a great phone but a great downside it's the battery life if you put the phone at work
