Axon 7, dual SIM, PagePlus (vz vmno) and VZ sim card same time - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Hi devs! got new Axon7.... really hoping to run both CDMA SIMS at the same time. Can we start a thread for dual SIM use, where neither is a GSM SIM? I'd really like to run both numbers on this phone. Tried all kinds of settings, currently on nightly LOS. I've tried nearly every APN setting.

Unfortunately, only SIM1 is wired to the phone's CDMA antenna (GSM/CDMA/HSPA/EVDO/LTE). SIM2 is only wired to GSM/HSPA/LTE. As the phone is not approved by Verizon, you need CDMA to be able to authenticate the device with the network, so even if you wanted to go Verizon-LTE-data-only on SIM2, it won't be able to connect. For any Verizon-based provider, it's SIM1 or bust.

I was afraid of that, or access to the modem, for example. If we can't connect via hardware, would it be possible to emulate or allow for software control/flipping "sims" so to speak? Perhaps moving this to the dev forum... I really appreciate your expertise and help. I'd like to keep the second # on PP, but might have to somehow port or forward to to the main/other VZW connection.
With all that said, I recall getting SIM2 working..... so I just checked. disabled SIM1, and after a few jiggles, I get LTE on SIM2, can cruise internet... so I might ask, if a hardware wiring restriction is there, my setup doesn't seem to reflect it. I can get ping test on ip4 to work.... ????

It seems to be very fickle, constantly having to toggle radio, network protocols, and seems to be either/or. After re-activating the SIM1, the SIM2 signal meter will show an R, with no bars of signal. The R stays, but no SMS will send out. If I disable SIM1, LTE signal bars on SIM2, no R..... and internet works fine. still no SMS on SIM2. double checked APN settings for pageplus(TRACFONE.VZWENTP), they are customized to included MMS stuff, oddly, it won't add with MCC310 and MNC012 like PP tells me, but matched to my S4 with PP, it adds well as MCC311/MNC480(same as VZW APN).

(Wondering about ZTE AXON 7 dual SIM VZW and Lineage????)All other LOS 14.2 nighlty, speakers, battery mgmt, camera (back side button seemed to have worked BEFORE LOS?) u know, no screen problems. unlock, TWRP, root(if you want), LOS whatever you like.
Should I be pursuing older modem firmware to resolve dual CDMA SIM capabilities? APN or protcol settings? specific dual SIM ROMs? Virtual SIM swapping driod zip? Any direction would be duly noted by the Internet. thx all.

bump. I really dont want to flip SIMs every few days. Any help please?

So, i have to constantly switch SIMs between slot 1 and 2, hoping no SMS messages expire? Cmon, is no one going to help us find a solution to this?

The user above already answered your question correctly, to the best of my knowledge - this phone will not be able to achieve what you desire. Maybe you can get an LTE-only connection on slot 2 with a CDMA SIM but even that's iffy as the Axon 7 typically rejects CDMA SIMs in slot 2, as I'm sure you've noted. Not sure if LOS allows it but even if so I would think the same technical limitation applies.
This isn't a software limitation...it's a hardware limitation. Thus we can't do much about it.
And for reference, the other Verizon-friendly dual SIM phone, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, also has this limitation though it's slightly better as you can keep both CDMA SIMs in both slots and switch between. Perhaps that's more what you're looking for?

hot-swapping SIMS seems to cause connection issues, best to swap while powered down? this stinks, anyone? HELP

Well, if it is a hardware issue, can we not sym link or software mod to allow us not to remove SIM's all the time, missing messages? The Xiaomi Note2 seems like the fix, but .....B13..... that's why the Axon7 seems a better fr for VZW towers...
I really appreciate the info.

The Mi Note 2 Global version has band 13 and 4 and 2 so it's totally compatible with Verizon. Also CDMA 0 and 1 so there are no limitations in this respect.

Really? Just looked up the Note2, looks equally impressive. Might hafta swappa the AXON7 to note2..... Back to the AXON7 , does anyone have experience making it work with CDMA only on SIM2? I could live with the AXON if SIM2 would get/send SMS.

Is it known if both SIM slots on the Mi Note 2 Global are hooked up to the CDMA antenna?

Yes it seemed to work in both slots. Unfortunately I sold my Note 2 as I really prefer the Axon 7 but I do seem to recall that either slot worked just fine. I seem to recall trying two different CDMA SIMs and independently they worked when you changed the data to the one you wanted to use. But they did not work simultaneously. Hopefully I'm remembering correctly as this was a few weeks ago but I'm pretty sure the Note 2 did allow you to toggle between two CDMA SIMs without issue.
In general, the Note 2 had better radio firmware than the Axon 7...much more stable in every way. It was a very fine device though I didn't like the pentile display and that in the end was why I sold it. I also like to use a screen protector and the curved screen was really annoying as you have to use a wet application film to get the best results and I'm not very good at applying those.

Hey...I just wanted to update this one as I got ahold of a Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 and tested it with two active Verizon SIMs. The results are good vis-a-vis the OP's issue.
You can have two CDMA SIMs in the Mix 2 and while you won't get simultaneous CDMA connection (even with VoLTE connected...which would seem to "free up" the CDMA connection for use on the opposing SIM but perhaps this isn't techincally feasible) on both SIMs, you will be able to switch back and forth without changing anything relating to the SIMs' physical position, unlike the Axon 7. So, in case you're willing to throw about $550 at a new Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, it looks like dual SIM-single standby operation can be achieved with two CDMA SIMs. The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Global almost certainly can perform in this way as well.
ADD'L INFO: I tried this setup for an hour or so and I ran into some connectivity issues, where the SIMs would be stuck on an inactive CDMA connection or CDMA+EvDO 3G. To resolve this, I had to go into the testing menu (*#*# 4636 *#*# in the dialer) and manually turn the radio off totally (airplane mode wasn't sufficient) and then turn the radio back on. This seemed to resolve things permanently.
Also, this is unrelated, but for AT&T/Verizon users, the Mi Mix 2 looks to be capable of CDMA + UMTS (3G) simultaneous service, which is a godsend as presently the Axon 7 only allows EDGE + CDMA and thus creates service issues for AT&T customers in 3G-only areas.

Figured I'd ask here instead of creating a new thread.
I am looking for a dual sim phone to use where one would be Verizon and other sim would be AT&T. I don't care which sim gives me data as long as both get calls.
Would Axon 7 work for this? Thanks for any help.

Hello...yes... The Axon 7 should work in your use case most of the time as it can pick up CDMA 1X alongside WCDMA and LTE, the latter two of which are the technologies that AT&T uses. So, as long as you're in an active Verizon 1X area, and you keep the data SIM on AT&T, you should be able to pick up calls on both SIMs.
It is important to note, however, that Verizon does have some coverage areas which are dependent on voice-over-LTE for calls and text. So in these areas, you will not be able to receive voice service or texting on Verizon while using your AT&T SIM for data. But, these areas should be relatively rare, at least for now.

Downsides to buying the Dual SIM global version?

If someone wants the S7 international version, the correct model is G935F.
Aside from availability, why would anyone not want to buy the dual SIM instead, G935FD? Are there any downsides to the dual SIM vs the single SIM?
No difference if you do not use 2nd sim, if you use 2nd sim then cell activity will increase obviously and risk of higher battery drain when there are poor signal strength
Not sure if your ROM modding options may also be more limited if you wish to keep 2nd sim fuctionality
I just bought one and can't figure out how to get Samsung Pay to work. The stub app is there but it always fails to download. :/ (And on Play Store, says your device is incompatible with this version.)
Other than that, I can't think of any other downsides. But I do wish Samsung Pay worked...

Samsung Pay is available only if Samsung has it officially released on your country. Or else it will show as incompatible (happens to my S6 edge)
I have one... so far so good using 1 SIM
DUOS written on the back
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Be aware the second sim uses the SD slot, so you can't have an SD card if you use both sims.
No downsides so far using the 2-sim model. Actually I followed a video tutorial on Youtube and got the SD card to work with both SIMs (regarding to last post).
My only worry is that maybe we won't get as much ROMs as the single SIM variant.
The main feature difference, at least between the Dual SIM international version (this one came with a lot of chinese written on the cling film phones get shipped with, default language was chinese, and even after selecting, the Dual SIM selectin menu still display still shows a couple of chinese characters) and my single sim international version (I believe it is a ME version as using Samsung info, it showed localisation to Egypt) is that the DUOS version only allows 2G/3G connectivity, there is no 4G or LTE option at all when you go into Network Mode, whereas my single SIM version allows you to choose b.w 2G only, 3G only, 3G/2G (Autoconnect) AND LTE/3G/2G (Auto connect).
I believe only SIM1 allows data, SIM2 is calls only, and its not active standby, i.e. if you're on a call on SIM1, and someone calls SIM2, they'll get a busy tone, no call waiting.
I haven't really noticed any major difference in terms of battery usage
If you're not bothered about 4G or LTE, then the Dual Sim is the way to go. It IS possible, with a bit of DIY to use 2 SIMs AND the SD Card at the same time.

Thanks for mentioning that YouTube. I was curious and found one instruction: https://youtu.be/GpRaHpF3cNI. It quite a surgical procedure but doable.
Any 93xF ROM works on the corresponding FD variant.

That's on the S7 specs page (HK or Chinese site). You could also see the youtube video above. Toward the end it's showing exactly that.

Absolutely incorrect information;
I am using G935FD. Both the sim's are 4G Capable.
Any one 4G Sim is active at a time as it is a technology limitation and not phone.
Also can receive call on both sims simultaneously and there is a special setting for same.
And Yes you can use 2 sims and a SD Card together with some efforts.

At first I was going to say that your post is totally false, but then I realized that you have the Chinese/HK SD820 935FD version....
On the Exynos version, contrary to common belief, LTE/4G/3G/2G is ALLOWED on BOTH SIMs..... BUT ONLY 1 CAN HAVE DATA AT A TIME. See attached pics. I've already proven this by using two different SIMs, both with data, in different configurations (1 at a time, both inserted, swapped), and sure enough, SIM2 is capable of DATA.
So SIM2 is NOT JUST CALLS ONLY.
Difference in battery? Don't know really. Haven't been using both SIMs simultaneously enough to make a sound judgement.
The fact that you CAN use DUAL SIM & Micro SD at the same time (with a bit of work), AND have LTE on either SIM, AND be able to root/TWRP/custom ROM - the Exynos 935FD is the way to go....
In the messages app you will see either the sim 1 or sim 2 icon to show which sim you sent the messages with. Thankfully it doesn't show in the status bar

1 SIM @ 4G (DATA/VOICE/SMS) while the other @3G (voice) possible?

Can I have 1 sim for data & voice running at 4G, while the other sim for voice & sms only in 3G? Or only 2G supported?
Because I read at 1+3 forum that it can actually do this, so I was wondering if the Axon 7 can as well. I don't see why not, correct?
Has anyone tried this? I'm in the US, and would like to be able to run a tmobile mvno sim (4G+voice+sms) + an international sim (voice+sms) that's roaming on AT&T who will shut down 2G soon.
It's a dual 4G sim slot, so yea you can run it like that.

Go to settings - dual sim settings - network mode and on sim 2 tell it GSM only. It will keep sim 2 on 3g. Also on settings -dual sim settings you can turn off mobile data for either sim. Just put t-mobile in sim 1 and at&t in sim 2, shut off mobile data on sim 2, and tell sim 2 gsm only. Done
Thanks for the info, I didn't buy the device yet; but this makes choosing a device even harder since both can do this now (1+3 & Axon 7).
Until recently this was NOT the norm I believe, best I could find was a dual sim phone with 1 sim @ 4G while the other @ 2G only.

Doesn't GSM-only mean 2G? While both slots are hooked up for 2G/3G/4G, I think only one slot can be connected to 3G/4G at a time, the other slot goes down to 2G.
When I have my Verizon SIM in Slot1 (chosen as data connection) and a T-Mobile SIM in Slot2, using apps like LTE Discovery show my A7 connected to Verizon LTE, Verizon 1x (2G for voice calls), and T-Mobile GSM (2G), not T-Mobile HSPA (3G). When I switch the data connection source to Slot2, it connects to T-Mobile LTE and Verizon 1x (2G), not Verizon EVDO (3G).
Yes I was able to confirm LTE and WCDMA simultaneous operation
Hi! Amazingly, yeah this works...you can have LTE on one SIM and WCDMA 3G on the other (voice only). I tested this with two T-Mobile SIMs and was kind of shocked as in the past it seems like all dual-SIM phones are limited to GSM-only on one of the two SIMs, as has been mentioned above...
But...strangely, this won't work when using a CDMA SIM in slot 1 (i.e., Verizon). I have no clue why...I can definitely confirm that my experience is the same as that stated above by xtermmin - the GSM SIM will be limited to EDGE (2G only) when the CDMA SIM is active as the data SIM. But with two GSM operators yes one can be LTE/WCDMA and the other can be WCDMA/GSM. I'll confirm real quick just to make double sure but I seem to recall seeing this in the specs and was able to confirm it myself. I've attached a screenshot showing this - I have SIM 2 enabled for data as you can see but SIM 1 still shows voice-only on UMTS and thus is not just limited to 2G. I hope they fix this phone so that CDMA SIMs will have this same functionality...for now though I can say confidently that two GSM SIMs can be operated as LTE/WCDMA on primary SIM and WCDMA/GSM on secondary SIM simultaneously...really great news considering all the EDGE networks seem to be on their last leg!
EDIT: Oh - and don't mind the fact that the "Cellular Network State" is shown as disconnected - in slot 1 I have an old T-Mobile SIM just for this test - it isn't active at the moment on an account. But for demonstration hopefully it does suffice as it definitely has the phone connected to 3G service on SIM 1 while having LTE service on SIM 2. Also - I've included a 2nd screenshot to show that with Verizon LTE/CDMA on SIM 1 (shown as carrier '123456'), SIM 2 will be limited to GSM-only on T-Mo...really weird - not sure why this limitation exists for CDMA users - I think it's a ZTE bug as simultaneous CDMA 1X and WCDMA is possible with T-Mobile as the data-SIM.

Yeah for sure...I love the phone and all but I really hope ZTE will just fix these annoying CDMA bugs already...Seems like they could fix this stuff with or without Verizon's approval - from the beginning they've kind of hamstrung CDMA and I've never really understood why. Another bug I noticed was that when switching calls to the T-Mobile SIM, VoLTE has to be kicked into gear by toggling the VoLTE toggle and sometimes even putting the phone into airplane mode for a second...from what I've heard this is a unique problem to CDMA use as well.

Thanks for the info. Has this issue been sorted out to your knowledge? We livein 2 different regions, but would only consider getting the Aussie release of this phone this month if it can seamlessly handle 4g/3g, using 2 SIM cards where both are capable of LTE. Will this work? Does it automatically switch data to SIM 2 in order to take 3G voice call, or does it temp. disable data on sim 1 (4g) to allow SIM 2 call?

Actually, worse than I thought...but only a bit

Hi - I just tried this and here's what I found:
If active data is on SIM 2, a call to or from SIM 1 is possible on UMTS (WCDMA 3G) but this will terminate the LTE connection on SIM 2 for the duration of the call. However, a call on SIM 2 will not be a problem for data unless SIM 2 is on EDGE or less...on UMTS or LTE (i.e., a VoLTE call) you'll still have data during the call.
If data is on SIM 1, a call to or from SIM 2 is only possible on EDGE!!! I didn't know this! I guess SIM 2 will always be GSM-only if SIM 1 is the active data SIM. And also - you will lose LTE data on SIM 1 if you receive or place a call on SIM 2 EDGE/GPRS.
So...it looks like the situation isn't as good as I'd hoped - if 3G calling is necessary on a particular SIM card at all times, that SIM should be placed in slot 1. And it'll work well even when SIM 2 is the active data SIM. But, if you need 3G calling at all times on both SIMs, you may be out of luck.
Also, the Axon does not seem to allow you to change the data SIM in the middle of the call...in this scenario, SIM 2 was on LTE and was the active data SIM, and SIM 1 was on UMTS (calls only). I made a call on SIM 1 and then changed the data to SIM 1 to try and get 3G data during my call...but it didn't connect to data until I hung up the call...so it seems that the service state gets frozen when you make a call, in a way.
I hope this info helps...seems like kind of a mixed bag, unfortunately.

Thanks for the. That's pretty backwards by ZTE. Makes no sense. SIM 1 and 2 need to work the same way regardless of WHICH SIM had the 3G incoming call and which had 4G data active at the same time. I read the above as SIM 2 can be 2G only, or is the main SIM for 4G data....so 3G calls can be taken on SIM 1. Yep, backwards!
Axon hasn't sold me. Audio on a phone is important, but the HTC front facing speakers get easily clogged, then it looks horrendous. I'm favouring one of OP3T (as i believe this too has unlocked bootloader and root), or worst case - LG v20 or G5 dual...but neither will be given unlocked bootloaders.

So, I just tried it again and it looks like I was able to achieve a UMTS 3G connection on both SIMs even during a call on SIM 1...perhaps my initial test was in error somehow...not sure. But it looks like dual 3G is possible after all...there may be hope!

Are you sure both are running 3g, because I have had devices that always showed 3g even when connect to 2g networks, really need to test with an app the can see both sims at the same time like network cell info mini.

Yes I'm sure. I was using LTE discovery and the Settings --> Phone Status...not just the signal type indication. It can run dual 3G UMTS and/or HSPA+.

Also, if you look at post #6 of this thread you'll see two screenshots in the attachments that show dual LTE/UMTS connections on SIM 2 and 1 respectively.

Sure thing. Just to make double sure, I just put my FreedomPop (AT&T) SIM in with my T-Mobile one and set both to WCDMA...And it's confirmed that dual 3G works fine (see screenshots below). So you should be ok! AT&T has decommissioned 2G completely so the fact that I could sustain a dual T-Mobile/AT&T connection when T-Mobile is active for 3G data should hopefully prove that the Axon 7 can get dual 3G. One caveat though - with a Verizon SIM in slot 1, slot 2 is still 2G only...So you will be limited to 2G in slot 2 if you have a CDMA SIM in slot 1 which is data-active. But two GSM SIMs should be ok. Good luck!

So Awesome, does anyone if the same is true for the new ZTE Blade v8 Pro, I sure hope so as I am looking to add both of these to my collection, Using prepaid H2O wireless for calls and text and FreedomPop LTE or Global sims for data... What would be the best setup for that data ( FreedomPop ) on sim 1 or sim 2. H20 is a AT&T MVNO

The only limitation vis-a-vis SIM 1 vs. 2 slot I know of when it comes to GSM SIMs relates to WiFi calling... You can only get WiFi calling on SIM 1. But that shouldn't matter for FreedomPop or H2O I would think so it shouldn't matter. Also, CDMA SIMs only work in slot 1 but of course that should affect you either. So either slot should be fine I'd think!

Verizon Compatibility

I just purchased the ZTE Axon 7
I'm trying to find a pinned post on the steps I need to take to have this new cell be Verizon compatible.
Please can someone direct me to where there may be previous discussions on this as I can't find it.
We've been on virgin mobile for a long time so we don't have a GSM SIM so I just need to know what kind of phone I need to get with the nano (?) SIM and the next steps to get Verizon on the new phones.
Thanks!
I'm pretty sure all you need is a valid Verizon nano-SIM.
This may help too:

You'll need to purchase the A2017U model, which is the standard USA-unlocked model. There is not a specific Verizon variant of the Axon 7.
The Axon 7 is sort of Verizon compatible, but there are issues. Also, unless you already have an active Verizon SIM available to you, you CANNOT activate an Axon 7 on Verizon - Verizon will not activate SIMs with this device. You'll have to already have an active Verizon SIM to use the Axon 7.
So, that said...here's a summary of the issues. For one, the phone will often show [falsely] that it's roaming, so you'll have to turn data roaming on. Also, when data service is on eHRPD or EvDO 3G or 1X, the carrier will be '123456' or '31000' or '002127.' Finally, a GSM SIM is, in my opinion, *essential* to properly set up the radio on initial activation. GSM SIMs can be purchased from many places including Target/Wal-Mart/grocery stores, etc...and a non-active GSM SIM will work fine. But...in my experience, performing *initial* set up of your Axon 7 with a Verizon SIM will cause radio problems later, most commonly a lack of LTE connectivity and sometimes additional problems with calls and texts. So it's very wise to obtain a GSM SIM (a friend's or, again, an inactive one will do fine) with which you should perform initial setup. After initial set-up with the GSM SIM and a few reboots, the Verizon SIM can be inserted.
Anyway, I've had my Axon 7 on Verizon for about three months and it's worked ok...but here are the steps I'd suggest if you can obtain both a GSM SIM and an already active Verizon SIM:
1) Deactivate "Advanced Calling" in your Verizon account, if it's active. Also, turn off the Advanced Calling setting in your previous Verizon device as appropriate and make a call on your old phone over 1X to make sure VoLTE is fully disabled on your account.
2) Acquire a GSM SIM card (i.e., AT&T, T-Mobile, or any of their respective MVNOs). This SIM card does *not* need to be active - a friend's will do fine as well.
3) Perform initial setup of the Axon 7 with the GSM SIM card inserted.
4) Reboot the phone once after setup is complete. Wait a few minutes.
5) Turn off phone, and insert your active Verizon SIM card.
6) Reboot the phone.
7) Enable the "Data roaming" setting in the Dual SIM settings/mobile networks. This is necessary due to a problem in ZTE's firmware on this device.
Finally, just as a note - VoLTE and WiFi Calling on Verizon do not work on the Axon 7 at present. Calls must be made over CDMA 1X...so if you're in a Verizon LTE-only area you won't have calls and you might not have texts either.
Good luck!

I am a little ignorant on this subject, but I was always under the impression that one could simply purchase a SIM/nano-SIM for around $29?
EDIT: Yikes, OK $45... but here is a link: https://www.verizonwireless.com/accessories/4g-sim-activation-kit/

Yeah this is always a big pain for sure...you'll need a nano-SIM Verizon branded phone (though you can cut down the SIM to nano size for the Axon 7 if you need to if you can't find a Verizon nano-SIM one) *or* a [unlocked as necessary] Nexus 6, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Google Pixel, Moto X Pure Edition 2015, or [unlocked or Verizon] iPhone 6/6 Plus/6S/6S Plus (and maybe a few others?)
Swappa.com is a really good place to get cheap, used Verizon phones with activate-able ESNs/IMEIs: https://swappa.com/buy/devices/verizon
Often you can buy a Verizon prepaid phone+SIM at WalMart for fairly cheap too but there are some limitations *if* you're planning on going postpaid (I think it has to be paid for a month on Prepaid before it can be used on postpaid or something)...but I believe if you're planning on activating a prepaid account you can get like an HTC Desire 526 from WalMart maybe and then activate on Verizon PrePaid and pay your first month and then move the SIM card into your Axon 7 right away...and then perhaps [hopefully] activate any the other SIMs with the same phone if you're wanting to do multiple ones. In this video, Total Tech seems to be able to pull the SIM out and I presume you could then just add it to a different phone, though the Verizon SIM is adhered somewhat to the tray of the 526 it appears: https://youtu.be/PC1y4b0zCHQ

So I found a cheap Verizon prepaid phone at Walmart with nano SIM yeah! So going to pick up as Axon 7 came today so will set up. Now for the GSM SIM does that have to be nano or Micro SIM or if it doesn't matter. . .
I read somewhere on the forums that there are two slots - SIM 1 for CDMA, SIM2 GSM? I can't quite remember if that's the right way around.
Anyway...off I go! Hope this works the phone looks really nice & I haven't even switched it on yet.

It should be a nano-SIM in both slots. And when you activate, the GSM SIM should be used in slot 1 (the Verizon slot). Then you can put the Verizon SIM in after a few reboots. For dual-SIM purposes only, slot 1 must be CDMA and slot 2 is GSM...but for single SIM operation slot 1 can be either one.

Here is my screenshot. Im assuming when it says "Verizon wireless" at the top left that's showing 4G as well?
I don't see the usual LTE symbol...
So when I switch off Wi-Fi I see LTE
Sorry if this has been mentioned hundreds of times before.... But I'm assuming you can't have Wi-Fi and LTE on at the same time?
My other phone is on Wi-Fi mostly and where there's no Wi-Fi automatically goes on the data plan. Is there a set up for this?

There actually is a way to run LTE and WiFi concurrently though it typically isn't necessary for most users as the phone will manage this on its own (as tolymatev said above)...but if you want to do it it's pretty easy...here are the steps:
1) Open Settings/"All Settings" tab
2) Scroll down to "About Phone"
3) Scroll down to "Build number"
4) Tap "Build number" repeatedly until the phone tells you "Congratulations, you're a developer!!!" or something like that
5) Hit back button
6) Tap the [newly appeared] "Developer options"
7) Scroll down and select "Cellular data always active"
This mode will keep the LTE connected (though data should still flow over wifi as long as wifi is connected) so that the phone will quickly switch between wifi and cellular...some people like this option though it does allegedly consume just a tad bit more battery than usual.
Glad you got the phone working!!!

Nexus 4 only work with at&t mexico, no other carrier

Hi, i recently buy an used nexus 4 in ebay, simply for nostalgia, so, i´m in Mexico, the nexus 4 that i had 3 year ago, was unlocked, so, i supose this too, when arrive, i connect to wifi immediately without any sim inside, the cellphone request for one upgrade, i accept, after that, i put my sim from Virgin Mobile and the nexus only showed " no simcard inside, only emergency calls.... y try with other carrier, weex mexico (virgin and weex work in Movistar, they are OMV) and the same all.... finally y put a sim from at&t mexico, nothing... with the sim (att) inside, i downgrade to android 4.4.4, when woke up, the nexus 4 with the same result, No simcard, so, the cellphone wasn´t detecting any simcard, after that, it request for the next upgrade, lollipop 5.0.1 that i accept, but in this chance, the nexus with the simcard from ATT showing signal¡¡¡¡¡ the cellphone was working at 100%, i made a couple calls, without problems.
But, i try with the other 2 simcards, and it doesnt detecting, simply show again No simcard, emergency only, so i switch back my Att sim and this is detecting without problems....
I install a rom named Pure Nexus, waiting for work, but the same, only with ATT simcard work, so i downgrade again to 4.4.4 but in this chance with other simcard differnt from AT&T, Virgin mobile.... but nothing, nexus 4 is not detecting any other simcard than at&t¡¡¡¡¡¡
What can i try? could be a nexus 4 locked only for one carrier or what? in google dont appear in blacklist, the imei is good nor corrupted... could be the sim holding?
try going back to stock using the nexus 4 toolkit, then root, and try one of the hybrid models LTE enabler or download the 107-3, if that doesnt work also, then it might be defective.

you will get android 5.1.1, you can also install custom recovery and root using it.
then if the sims doesnt work, change the modem using the LTE Enabler you can get it from the Play Store.
it has the modem until version 104-33, but im using another one the 107-33 that i got from
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B77BTW0zStYCZmpPR0xTaWE5OUU
104 33 and 107 33 are hybrid modems, but you can also install stock modems,
the modem is the one that allows you to make calls and use the data channel in your phone
hope that makes sense, let me know how it goes. regards.

then if the sims doesnt work, change the modem using the LTE Enabler you can get it from the Play Store.
it has the modem until version 104-33, but im using another one the 107-33 that i got from
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B77BTW0zStYCZmpPR0xTaWE5OUU
104 33 and 107 33 are hybrid modems, but you can also install stock modems,
the modem is the one that allows you to make calls and use the data channel in your phone
hope that makes sense, let me know how it goes. regards.

well, i flash EnableNexus4LTE.zip and LTEhybrid33-84 without good news, i have the same issue, only at&t mexico sim is detected and the others no, well, i´m now with 4G LTE but only working in at&t
i don´t know what other things trying in the nexus, seem like only prefer at&t sim and no one else.
Adding information, i have sims from cricket USA and t-mobile USA, i know is not supported in México, but it will be for try to get something like: Sim not activated... or invalid sim, but other different from my nightmare: NO sim, please insert....
SOLVE:
I´ll auto answer... after a lot off attempts, i found the problem is the sim reader, like i posted before, only working with at&t Mexico sim, so, I watch the thickness of this was little bit smaller than others, my "strategy" was try to imitate the fact that at&t sim is making contact gently on pins, i take a 3in1 simcard, and i put the nano sim in micro sim adapter (included in the sim) but not in all (i don know exactly the words in english), so by this waya the nano sim standing on a little bit from microsim adapter.
when i insert the sim by this way an my nexus, and turn on, the cellphone recognize inmediatly the sim, so i found the key of this problem, like i said, the problem here is the sim reader, because, a normal and good sim reader not need this tricks to get signal.......

I glad its working now, you can stay on 5.1.1 with the hybrid modem if you got the 4G signal, or return to 4.4.4 if you want. regards.

i just sintall LTEhybrid33-84 and EnableNexus4LTE with TWRP custome recovery, but apparently without any 4G signal, in the menu mobile networks only i can choose 2G & 3G.... but the baseband does change.....
so, i use the trick hidden menu with *#*#4636#*#* and i choose LTE only, only with this my nexus 4 has 4G signal¡¡¡¡¡¡ but, if i come back to mobile networks, again only i can see 2g and 3g and the little 4G on top disappear.... so i need to come back again to hidden menu....
conclusion, mobile networks menu it will prohibited for me :silly:

you should be able to select "LTE/GSM Auto" that way the phone will switch to GSM when needed.
and the option is only visible under *#*#4636#*#* menu, also, we have to switch to LTE/GSM auto, if the phone is restarted. there is a way to make it persistent, but I haven't tried. i'm fine with it since i don't restart the phone too often.
hope this helps, regards.

OnePlus 3T T-Mobile VoLTE issues/fix

I know this has other threads, but I wanted to post something that helped me get VoLTE working that none of the other threads addressed.
Quick background: new to TMobile, new to the 1+ brand. Rooted, stock. I could get LTE, but I kept getting kicked to roaming AT&T H+ or 3G, couldn't get VoLTE, and very slows speeds even when on LTE. Tried every APN combo, network settings reset, factory phone reset, tried every *#*#4636#*#* preferred network type...nothing. Chatted in to 1+ asking if I could speak to technical support. The response was the only way to fix it was to factory reset (which I had already done) and downgrade OOS. The newest OOS has the T-Mobile optimizations, so downgrading makes no sense! Needless to say, the whole 30 min chat was a waste of time and just a bunch of weak canned responses with no attempt to really help or figure out how to escalate me to someone with some knowledge of the APNs and settings needed.
Out of desperation, or since I had tried every other possible trick, I went under my T-Mobile SIM, Network Operators, and toggled Auto Choose and manually chose TMobile 4G.
Boom, full bands 4, 12 and VoLTE, and normal speeds! Carrier aggregation is even working sometimes.
I don't know why Auto Choose doesn't know how to grab 4G permanently, but everything is working!
Does anyone have any idea why this fixed it? Since I choose 4G, will I lose my ability to get 3G in rural areas? I don't feel like there was much info on how VoLTE is provisioned on the phone.
What's everyone's experience with the preferred network settings? I'm currently in LTE/UMTS, and I don't have the LTE/GSM option that apparently everyone else has...?
Also, does everyone else have as sporadic speeds as I do? One moment it'll be 40 down, next it'll be 6? I know it has to do with bands, but should there be a way to even that out a little?
Sidenote: I really like 1+ mentality about rooting and software, since I have to have a rooted phone, but this experience really soured my first impression. Plus their 1+5 is a major letdown to me. I don't think I'll purchase anymore 1+ products.
Feel free to correct any misinformation in my post.
I also have noticed when I try streaming, webpages or speedtests the little LTE+ carrier aggregation kicks in to combine band 4 and 12 and I get pretty good speeds. See screenshot
My speeds do definitely vary on Tmobiles network. Isn't an issue for me, everything streams fine, also i haven't had an issue with VOLTE since I got the phone in February..
I noticed when I'm in a roaming area, instead of roaming now, I completely lose service. I believe this is because I manually selected TMobile 4G as my operator instead of auto, which would allow the phone to jump to AT&T. Any ideas?
So still having problems, but only when traveling. If I have network operator on "auto" it'll select AT&T roaming, but then it'll just stick then and never switch back to TMobile, even in full strength band 4 or 12 areas. I have to reboot, and toggle auto for it to grab a T-Mobile signal. Very irritating. This also kicks the phone off VoLTE, and I've yet to get it back. Not sure if this is TMobile or the phone's fault. Tried everything I can think of. Any ideas?

Excuse my ignorance, but what would a new SIM accomplish, technically speaking that is?
FYI, my wife's HTC 10 does the same thing. That would make two bad SIMs unlikely?

I've had same problem as yours, I went to T-Mobile store and told them what was going on. They switched my SIM card and problem fixed. I was told because my SIM was too old (4 years at least) that's why i was having such issue.

Gotcha thanks, I'll give it a try! What's weird is our SIMs are only weeks old....

That's what I've been thru and got fixed. Hopefully it'll work for you too
New SIM, no change
This phone has the features I want, and T-Mobile has the speeds I want, but this is frustrating to be kicked to roaming and no VoLTE....

Sorry to hear that it didn't work out for you. I attached couple of screenshots just to show you that it's been working good for me after I switched SIM card.
Edit: have you tried to create a new APN instead of using the default APN?
Edit 2: I can show you my APN if you want
Sorry, must have not been clear. I can get LTE, just not automatically after going into a roaming area. It just sticks on AT&T roaming until I manually go back in and select TMobile 4G. The problem with that is when I do need roaming to work, it won't because I have TMobile 4G manually selected.
Another problem is that I can't get VoLTE to stay very long, in fact i haven't had it for a couple days, despite me being in a very strong LTE area.
I appreciate your help
Edit: yes, if I could see your APN that'd be great!

Just create a new APN exactly as mine and see if it works
Hmm yeah that's the one I have too....
Btw, maybe I just needed to wait,, but VoLTE is working again, and it's reporting the correct IMEI (it wasn't before but TMobile told me that wasn't a big deal...I beg to differ because now my TMobile app is working whereas before it wasn't) Fingers crossed the new SIM did the trick! I'll know tomorrow when I commute to work and it starts roaming whether it'll reacquire T-Mobile and VoLTE
Quick update: I definitely have noticed an improvement in jumping off AT&T roaming back onto TMobile LTE. AND VoLTE is now sticking. But... I'm inclined to think it's something related to me not having my second Verizon SIM in. I have a company work number on a Verizon SIM that enables me to text and call from that number. Obviously data doesn't work but that doesn't bother me since I have TMobile unlimited on my personal SIM. When I insert my Verizon SIM in the second slot, my IMEI number changes in the testing menu, but not my settings info! What the heck? The IMEI number identifies the phone and shouldn't change...I thought? Very confused why part of my phone retains the correct IMEI and the testing changes. I instantly lose VoLTE and my TMobile app fails to authenticate.
What is going on???
UPDATE:
I popped my Verizon SIM in again (slot 1) and it's reporting the xx...15 IMEI (correct one on my T-Mobile account) and the T-Mobile SIM (slot 2) then drops to xx...07! I'm so confused! I thought the IMEI is NOT supposed to change because it identifies the device?? The ICCID is the SIM number? Why is Verizon SIM screwing this up?
