[PROBLEM] Rooted > Flashed to U Firmware > Soft Brick > Flashed back to Verizon FW
Hi, relatively new to this, so sorry in advance if I made some obvious mistakes, but my phone is now soft bricked and I can't find a solution.
1) I was on Nougat
2) Rooted with Odin to remove Verizon bloat
3) Didn't really change much, still had MMS issues etc
4) Did a the deep verizon debloat. Started getting an endless message 'IMS Service has stopped'
5) Decided to flash U Firmware to get a non-Verizon, unrooted starting point. Used HOME_CSC to keep data
6) Soft bricked phone (didn't finish install and was stuck on a boot menu with the message 'dm-verity verification failed' )
7) Flashed back to a previous version of Verizon firmware, again, HOME_CSC - (G935VVRS4APH1_CL8875708_QB10880117_REV02_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.zip). (Did this twice now, once with PrinceCosmy Odin)
8) Install went well, Verizon logo on boot.
9) Soft brick #2 - I'm being asked for a password to decrypt storage...I set no password for this. So I'm stuck.
Thanks in advance, any support is much appreciated!

The PH1 firmware is very old. You might have better luck flashing to QF2. Honestly, your best bet is to boot into recovery to do a factory reset, then start over completely. That will clear the decryption issue. Then look at the QF2 ROM in this forum.

Thanks! I was hoping to not have to reset, but have recently backed it won't be a big deal.
I have two other questions though
a) how do I know which firmware is QF2? (the device was originally on MM but through smart switch I upgraded to Nougat)
b) what's the process for the factory reset? I'm trying via the recovery menu and it isn't working (the MM 6.0.1/ G935UUES4AQC1 install)
Thanks
(UPDATE - OK so I went back to the U firmware, and from that boot menu selected 'Wipe Partition/Cache'. Also did a factory reset which looked like it failed. Still couldn't boot phone though. However I went back to the verizon firmware and there was no passcode prompt now. Phone is factory reset to 6.0.1.
Should I go to QF2 now?
How can I get to a non-verizon firmware?)

OK, I've solved everything I mentioned above by doing as suggested,
I think I had a partition of something somewhere that was no good.
1 - Factory Reset from boot menu (after wiping partition/cache)
2 - Flashed PH1
3 - Verizon bloatware reinstalled and was loading phone properly
4 - Did a factory reset from here via settings
5 - After factory reset, Flashed QC1 w/out HOME_CSC
6 - Now booting properly with a clean(ish), non-Verizon firmware.
I'm still interested in removing as much bloat as possible from Samsung, and am constantly being harassed notified that my Nougat update is downloaded and ready to install!
Hope that helps someone!

Is it possible to install a different regions firmware to my S4?

Hey guys quick question before I download and attempt it, I have an Australian i9506 (Cat 4 LTE) but we don't have an official 5.0.1 firmware yet.
Can I just download the Nordic version from http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-I9506/ and install it, or would it brick my phone/radios not work?
Thanks

Hi mate,
Yes you can !! it will not brick it , you may have (or not) problems with the modem as maybe is not the best for your region but you can always flash another...
should not be a problem
BACKUP first , nandroid and your EFS Folder, just in case there is a problem
Just to add to the previous suggestion, use Wanam's EFS Backup Tool rather than Samsung Tool, as it not only backs up the EFS partition but the hidden partitions where the IMEI and the modem are stored.

+1 mate!!
It also depends if your phone is carrier locked.
Thanks for the advice guys I'm giving it a try now, will edit as I go. My phone is not carrier locked (Voda AU don't lock them fortunately but they provide the codes on their website for free to unlock anyway).
So I downloaded Odin3 3.09 and the firmware I9506XXUDOA6_I9506NEEDOA6_NEE (this is the link from sammobile).
I'm following the instructions I found on another site but it's basically put the phone into download mode (home, power and volume down), agree to enter download mode, in Odin for AP select the .tar.md5, make sure Auto Reboot and F. Time Reset are ticked but not Re-Partition or anything else and start.
EDIT 1: The phone rebooted into recovery and updated something, now the phone is booting with a new boot animation. (for those referring to this I was on the latest AU Voda FW, then updated to CM12 5.0.2).
EDIT 2: After the usual nerve-wracking amount of time of first boot the boot logo finally went away and the usual "optimizing apps" message has come up and it's started (235 apps whoa the bloat). Waiting for that but at least it's working to a point where I can recover it. I just realised it's 6:10AM now and I FORGOT TO MAKE A BACK UP. I hope this works but worse case scenario there's a 4.4.2 Vodafone firmware I could flash and try my luck with if this doesn't work out.
EDIT 3: I'm not sure if it's part of the setup process but the word "UP" then a short progress bar appeared on the screen, now I've got only a black screen with a status bar (4G icon is there but no clock). I have rebooted from the power menu, let's see what's going on here.
EDIT 4: Cache wipe from stock recovery didn't work, trying factory reset from stock recovery. I note that the first time I set up the phone it was plugged into the computer with ODIN still running, I don't think it could have interfered but I unplugged the phone this time just in case.
EDIT 5: I'm not sure if it was ODIN or needing to do a factory reset but it's working now, I'm running through the set up. WiFi is working 100%.
Final EDIT: Everything is working 100%, tested the camera, proximity sensor, screen rotation, voice calls, mobile data, wifi and it's all 100%.

glad to hear it mate, you did it!!
Thanks for let in us know.
For any other Aussies out there trying this I'm on day two and everything is working perfectly, getting root is super easy too, just use Odin to flash a custom recovery (Solk's CWM from May 2014 works great), boot into the recovery and install UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.45.zip, exit and when it asks if you want to repair root say yes. Reboot, go to the play store, update to the latest SuperSU and all is well.

[Q] AT&T Wipe, flash stock? Still root?

EDIT: FULL STORY BELOW. SKIP TO SECOND REPLY FOR UPDATE!
900A, AT&T, WAS 4.4.4. I rooted my phone with towelroot by downgrading via ODIN then reflashing 4.4.4. I've had the phone for a year and wanted to experiment with some custom roms--specifically Twi5ted Lollipop. The version I found last night was V3. Anyways I followed the instructions of installing safestrap then attempting to create a partition to host the mod. Every time I tried to boot the partition I would wait 12 minutes with nothing but a black screen (I presume a bootloop.) After reading some posts here I found it requires a clean flash--not a dirty flash. So I used safestrap to backup, then I wiped it and installed the mod. Nothing--still black screen. I then attempted to restore the backup I saved--fails every time.
At this point being the noob I am, I started to get very concerned. I went into advanced wipe and for some reason selected 'system' and wiped it. After a reboot, it shows the Samsung logo, goes blank, vibrates then goes back to the Samsung logo. I went into the standard bootloader and attempted to restore to factory settings but there is nothing to restore of course cause I wiped everything.
I'm currently at work bored as heck cause my phone is wiped. I can still go into download mode thankfully. Should I have no problems flashing stock via ODIN when I get home on my lunch break? Which stock firmware should I flash for this phone?
Thanks!
Unfortunately my lunch break brought me no good news. I downloaded stock found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714455
After I flashed all the files (Except BL) when it boots, it get's to the Samsung logo--freezes halfway through then goes blank with the blue LED light on. I waited 10 minutes just to see what it does with no luck.
Another thing I found was weird-why when I boot does it still say 'Custom' when I flashed the stock firmware?
I really hope I don't have to drop $650 on a new phone Any help would be incredibly appreciated. Thanks guys!

AT&T bootloader is locked right? Regardless I tried flashing the bootloader as a last resort and ODIN failed. Figured it just confirmed what everyone else said that it's locked.
Is there a specific way I need to flash the files? Like one at a time?
Do I need to restore factory settings/delete cache THEN flash each? or vice versa?
Am I basically screwed since I have AT&T?

FIXED!
After flashing 4.4.2 several times and trying different things, I came across this thread which finally brought my phone back to life. Thanks XDA!!!

Help me flash stock ROM back please.

It all started when I rooted my phone (Samsung J5 2016 - SM-J510FN), installed TWRP through Odin, did a reset and flashed Extreme UX (9.0). Everything worked so as a noob I decide to turn off USB Debugging and OEM Unlock. I reboot my phone and get the message "Custom Binary blocked by FRP". So I decide to look up how to fix it. Kies didn't work so I go through sammobile and download the Stock ROM. I searched SM-J510FN and filtered for my country (Greece). I downloaded the first ROM I found and flashed it through Odin. I was really excited. Then I unlock my phone. I get dozens of popup messages of "x has stopped working" and the launcher wasn't working properly. I would appreciate any help. Is it a firmware problem? Should I do a hard reset and try installing stock again? Thanks.

Doing factory data reset should clear out those errors
Thanks for your answer. I don't really know how to do a factory reset because I can't access the device's settings.
Anyone that knows how to do a factory reset without accessing the device's settings?

Oreo update bootloop

Can anyone give me a little guidance:
UK Vodafone supplied S7 Edge, not rooted. Received Oreo update this morning, phone is now stuck in a bootloop - it will get as far as the "Android is starting... optimising applications", that goes away and then it just reboots.
I've been in to the recovery menu and tried wiping the cache partition - to which it reports "could not find /misc partition". Attempting to mount system partition reports the same thing.
Do I have any chance of resurrecting this? the firmware isn't yet on sammobile but I was wondering if updating via ADB or sdcard would help.
Grateful for any help!
install again via odin or directly on the Samsung page. with me it works super well
Can't get the ROM for Oreo as yet. Downloading 7.0 from sammobile and will try flashing that via adb and see if I can resurrect it. Anyone want to guess the chances of this working ?

That should work... download de 7.0 and install via Odin with mobile in download mode.
I always wake up my brick mobiles like this.
Have 'updated' my Ş7 with Oreo and now stuck with the boot logo.
Will they f***ing idiots from Samsung ever make a normal software without causing troubles?
My UK Vodafone supplied S7 also is stuck in a bootloop after the Oreo update.
My phone s7 is stuck in bootloop too. Don't know what to do. Nearest Samsung support is 36 miles away.
Its so hot to touch. Pressed all buttons to reset as advised but no luck.
wipe all in recovery or flash firmware through odin ,,
hope this helps.
here is the Oreo factory image for Vodafone https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=890278863836283079
only works with the latest Odin https://odindownloader.com/wp-content/uploads/Odin3_v3.13.1.zip
Galaxy S7 Vodafone here. Bootloop as well...
This update needs to be pulled. There will be thousands of people with the S7 on Vodafone most of whom won't be interested in using Odin to fix a problem caused by Samsung/Vodafone.
Just updated mine and wished I hadn't S7 edge, UK, Vodafone. Won;t leave the bootloop and cant get it to wipe cache or data. Can get it into download mode and shall be trying to reinstall
Updated my S7 Edge Vodafone - bootloop. Tried reinstalling with Odin and same result - still bootloop. This is unbelievable. Is this vodafone forcing this update or Samsung?
Any other ideas as I really don't want to wipe my phone completely? Have tried Odin reinstall twice just in case.

I had to wipe my phone.
Is this the only fix so far? Really don't want to do that if I don't have to as my SD encryption key is stored on the phone and I didn't decrypt it before updating...

Hey Lammy696,
My mother is on Vodafone UK with the S7 Edge and is experiencing the bootloop. I would advise not to update for the time being.
I would strongly advise decrypting your SD card prior to updating.
I have tried wiping cache etc as per normal update process but that failed. Only options I have is to flash a custom recovery, mount the storage and backup (if I can do this) or to wipe it completely.
If you want to keep your warranty and support, do not use the custom recovery option.
Good luck.
Unfortunately I've already updated and have probably lost all that data now
Is it safe to update now?

N910F Stock firmware corrupted.

My note 4, randomly crashed, running completely stock.
Began bootlooping and hasn't stopped.
Have downloaded firmwares from Samsung-Firmware . org, as SamMobile will literally not allow me to download anything for free??
No firmware has worked on the device, Have tried numerous PDA versions as I am unsure which the phone originally is.
The first firmware gave the error "dm-verity verification failed" in the recovery menu.
Have wiped cache and data.
Note: This is actually the second N910F which had corrupted itself and stopped working.
Help!
Do you want to recover some data from it?
If Not than you can try factory reset from Recovery menu.
Other than that it might be memory corrupted or your battery.
Try to change the battery.

New battery: Allowed the phone to boot past the first "Samsung Note 4" screen to : "Samsung" logo, but the phone made a loud beep/screech.
If you want to reflash the Stock ROM search for a version on https://updato.com
I just reflashed mine (g910f) even twice as I had an Infini-Boot, too. After cleaning Dalvik/Cache and formatting data, taking out the battery, after some time it suddenly displayed that it's going to setup apps and it works since then ...
So maybe just be patient.

to get the latest stock rom for your device, free and fast
look what you have to do:
download this (windows ) application and install it on your windows pc.
This is the aplication that will allow you to search and download the latest stock rom for your phone.
It connect to Samsung servers and in very little time you will have a new stock rom on your pc.
choose samfirm 3.06
extract it on a folder on your PC and run samfirm.exe
in the opening menu type
SM-N910F(or T/V/W etc your phones model)
REGION..... xxx (your region code)
these 2 you can find in a sticker under your battery if you open the phone and take off the battery
tick '' BINARY NATURE''
(If you dont tick BINARY...'' you will get the whole stock rom in one file xxxx.tar.md5 to flash it in the oding using the AP tab)
CHECK UPDATES>DOWNLOAD
THIS WAY YOU WILL GET THE LATEST STOCK ROM FOR YOUR PHONE/REGION
Binary nature means the rom split in 4 files
1. BL- bootloader
2.AP - rom
3. CP - modem
4. CSC - Customer support code(region/country)
This is what a stock rom is consist of
this kind of rom is also called REPAIR ROM, because you can use it to repair your phone.
If you look in odin you will find exactly these 4 entries.
So you can put each in the appropriate box and flash them all and so have a stock rom.
push start
Wait until rom flashes and phone reboots.
Hopefully it will solve your problem and everything will go as we all wish to.
BUT, from what you are describing, i am afraid for 2 things:
1. Your battery is almost dead, thats the good scenario .
With 20 $ you will solve it.
So new battery, new rom> problem solved, or
2. You are starting to have the emmc failure on your phone.
Thats a tough one.
Lets hope its not the case.
Just in case
