Because they had a fight with tmobile couldnt get IMS registration which means no calling over lte, and without a app such as hangouts or proper google voice you cant do anything phone calling related. Unless they make skype free for the US and Canada (makes allot of sense)

best call quality ever!! I owned HTC One M8 before, Huawei P8 lite, HTC Desire 500, iPhone 3, iPhone 4, my wife owns a iPhone 6. 950xl has by far best quality signal!!!

I've had supper clear audio, compared to my Nexus 6p. Honestly been the best ever.
The call quality sounds a like a landline! And my friends tell me that I sound clearer as well.
My brother is constantly muting himself on the G6. It's like the screen is so sensitive to touch that when in calls, he apparently activates the mute accidently. If I didn't know it was accidental, I'd think otherwise because it happens over and over consistently almost each and every call l.
Call clarity is unreal when talking to my wife - me on G6, she on G4

So far that I can tell this is probably its greatest weakness. I really do not like that crackling hum or noise when waiting for line to come through. My previous androids (that is htc desire s and lg nexus 5) did not make that noise.
No problems with that so far.
so far so good
No ability to call on T-Mobile USA except with spotty GSM. VoLTE appears broken on the two phones I have.
So far no problems yet.

Anyone notice questionable call quality while on cellular? I'm on T-Mobile with VoLTE enabled and I've noticed some iffy call quality that I haven't gotten before on other phones.
For me it's all good. But I'm on a different type of network in a different country
No issues with T-Mobile or Straight Talk in the US. Telstra and Vodafone both work well in Australia so far.

Wait you're using the Nokia 9 Pureview TA-1082 model and you've confirmed VoLTE because the calls stay in 4G LTE for the ENTIRE duration of the call??

I just got the phone and noticed when I called someone - that then they talked where was some background noise (white noise) which might be quite normal. But when they paused - it was like the background noise disappeared. I have not noticed it with my old phone - a Huawei. Is this normal or?
Update:
I returned the phone for replacement. The new phone had the same issue – it was however better than the old one – but still not satisfying for a phone with a price label of € 1,200. So, I have returned the phone asking for a refund. I had my brother trying the phone just to make sure that it was not me who was the problem
Call quality is really good for me, I find the oppo has better antenna design compared to my last phone (Samsung note 9) and as such have better signal strength indoors.
It also supports HD voice and WiFi calling here in the UK (Vodafone).

Only issue on speaker people struggle to hear me unless I keep top microphone next to my mouth.

I have taken new M31 6GB/128GB varient and started using last week.
Call quality in this is very poor and frequently voice is cracking and not able to understand whatever other person is telling.
Other person is also complaining same issue.
Same SIM I was using earlier with other hand set without any issues.
I checked on Internet and found that many people are facing this issue.

Yah it it is a major issue whenever my mom calls me i have to clearly hear the words. The main speaker is not good enough not too loud but ok. There is no background noise but the main voice from the speaker is low as we used to talk at the time of 2g and 3g era hello hello speak loudly i can't hear. Just kidding the voice is not toooo low neither high but it is managable.
Poor call quality
Great Call Quality.
Loudness of both Earpiece and Speaker is superb.
Just little bit of disturbance occurred in 2 calls but rest were ok.
