What's next for you??? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Thanks for taking the time to look at my post. I would like as many replies as possible regarding, what phone is next for you? Reason I am asking is, since the newer Samsung phones are coming out with lock bootloaders. What phones are you all jumping to next so you can still have a rooted phone?

None as I see no reason to buy until Note 3 no longer works.

I was thinking the same thing. But started to wonder should I switch phones, because these newer phones displays look so nice. But I am not willing to give up on my mobile hotspot to get the newer phones

I was thinking about the Note Fe......but for the price I could buy 3 new (ish) Note 3's from eBay, all with removable batteries and sd card slots, which would last me years when each one eventually went bad......possibly the Note 4 but I've done that and the silver bezel finish annoyed me along with the general fragility of the device, plus the screen cancelled out the processor upgrade.......I flit between Temasek's 12.1 and Phronesis Note 7 rom, both of which more than serve my needs. The Note 3 is truly a classic phone in my book ?

What do you think of j7 2016 or j7 2017 or lenovo p2 as replacement ?
Im attracted to theae phones for their battery life. My note 3 battery life is really aweful

What you can do is just replace your battery. As for the phone you mentioned, are they already able to be rooted?

Lollipop 5.0.1 Rolled Out for Verizon Note 4

So when can we expect it for the Verizon Note Edge... it looks Amazing on my note 4 the new features that is !!
Next year. No root and no update is killing me
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's one thing to block root, but this is complete bs that they can legally hold back lollipop.... not mentioning the cool additional features, but the known exploits alone they should have to push lollipop. I hate Verizon, I wish they would steal my unlimited data to give me a reason to jump ship
Sent from my SM-N915V
it's crazy that virtually every other Samsung phone prior to the Note Edge has been granted Lollipop. I just helped a friend of mine with her S4 update yesterday. (a little insulted that she had no idea what she was doing and here my phone is, all wonderful and beautiful but left out lol.) Thankfully I still have both my Note 4 and my S5 so I can switch out at anytime.
I have heard that one of the reasons big red is always slow on updates is for quality control, bugs, etc. Making sure that it's absolutely perfect before rolling it out. But when you go and see that the S5 was first to get Lollipop for the Verizon devices, it makes you think otherwise.

I just ditched my note edge last week because of the lack of accessories and the lack of lollipop I went back to the note 4 it's like there treating this as a limited edition type deal same deal goes for the Galaxy s6 edge

Once I find a buyer for my. I am totally done with samdong. Worst freaking phone I have ever bought..
You guys act surprised. For years anyone on VZW knows we get locked bootloaders and updates are about 6 months to a year behind all other carriers. This should not be a shock to anyone. The Edge is very similar to the Note 4 and if they are rolling out 5.0.1 to the 4, I suspect the edge will be right behind it. At the end of the day, I stay with VZW because they have the best network where I need it.

You can't as of now !!
The title of this thread is misleading
no biggy ...
The Verizon Edge came out some time after the Verizon Note 4, so Lollipop will probably come out that much time later. No big deal.
On another note, I've been shouting this to every end of the Internet, but there is a serious problem with the so-called "Lollipop" update that Samsung has provided to just about all NON-S6/Edge devices, and that is the lack of KEY FEATURES like app pinning and multi-user accounts. HTC, LG and Motorola have provided these features with their Lollipop updates, and they are stock Android Lollipop features. But Samsung as they too-often do, is holding them back from all devices except the Tab S (which is older than the Note 4/Edge) and the S6, and it's pissed me off to no end. There are PLENTY of Samsung features that I'd love to get on my Note 4 and Edge that the S6 has, like themes for example. But I understand that that is a Samsung feature, and so Samsung certainly is within their rights to withhold it to promote the S6. That I get. Those are proprietary Samsung features. But Google Android features, no. They should not be able to keep those from us just for the sake of promoting their S6 when Lollipop supports it out of the box. My Nexus 6 has them and it's the same age as the Note 4. So I don't understand it.
It is very, very, very shady, especially in light of how locked-down their devices are becoming.
That said, some developers are working very hard to get root for the locked-down versions of the Note 4 and Edge, so we have to support their hard work! Keep up the good work, and make sure to press Samsung hard on the shady things they do.
If I knew of a way to let Google know that OEMs shouldn't be stock holding Google features back just for the sake of promoting new devices, I'd do it. Any suggestions would be useful. A petition? I dunno.
Hang in there folks!

Yep that's what I did lol.... I probably had my G3 for 3 months and got bored..... So I got note 3 even though it was slightly 'older'.
G3's advantages over note 3 was the camera and 4k screen. but devices always overheat and too slow.
i thinks my note 3 won't receive upgrade to Marshmallow.:crying:
Based on Samsung's past experience, there wont be 6.0 for Note 3 / S4.
I wouldn't change a working Note 3 for a G3, they are fairly similar but the Note has bigger screen and better battery life the only downside imo is the resolution. The hardware doesn't really offer a meaningful difference.

Note 7 ported roms and their sake

Hello everyone, this is just my first thread to open a discussion about the future of Note 7 ported roms.
I was considering using a Note 7 port as my daily driver on my Note 5, but I'm still hesitating about it just because of the fact that there won't be any possible future software updates from Samsung, any update to Nougat is discarded.
What are you thoughts about the future of the roms based on the note 7? Would you use a Note 7 port and wait for a official Nougat update for the note 5, or do you prefer using a Note 5 based rom as your daily driver?
Do you think that the note 5 will get close to the features of the Note 7 with future software updates?
im very curious myself. i am not really worried about future updates to the rom getting on 7.0 though as i go through phones a lot and as soon as the s8 edge hits i will be trying to grab it. i sold my s7 edge last week before the major shutdown hoping to get cash together for a note 7. fml sure enough over the next couple days my hopes and dreams crashed and burned. so i picked up a note 5 because that is what i had before my s7e and i was missing the s pen. so now i am torn on rooting and trying to see the options for note 7 features. i am also wondering what the near future from samsung will bring as far as shooting some of the features to the note 5.

I read that Samsung will add "enhanced" S pen features in the upcoming Nougat update for the note 5. Hopefully it will also include something at least close to grace UX

The S7 and S7 Edge could possibly get it by the end of Q4 2016, so I guess that we can at least expect to start hearing about betas for the Note 5 by Q1 2017
this really sux. i know the s7 and edge are newer devices but to me the note 5 should be the replacement not the s7 edge. all the extra note 7 features should be pushed to the note 5 asap

Totally agreee. Maybe the will do something like what they did for the Note 4 that now has many features and similar UI as the Note 5.

Advice please- Is the Note 4 still worth buying now at end of 2016?

Hi there
I am currently on a Galaxy S4 running a stable version of Nougat - CM14, however I am looking to upgrade to a phone that has much custom ROM support- especially CyanogenMod.
Because I will only get a phone that has CyanogenMod support, I assume the Exynos variant will not be viable. Will the Note 4 have official CM14 support? When did the Note 4 receive CM13?
I am looking to buy a phone around £300 and the screen has to be at least 5.7inches. Would the Note 4 still be a good option now?
Or should I go with another phone?
All advice is welcomed... Thanks

Well it's a very hard choice i feel you.. note 4 is a great phone with a v.good development support but for me i am a bit scared for loosing my warranty knox is 0x0. lots of people are facing emmc failure "means" you phone will lag, freeze till the motherboard dies. So no one knows what is causing this problem. So my recommendation for you is to go for another phone manufacturer.. cheers

I am also a little reluctant to get a phone without Wireless Charging...
Anyway thanks for the suggestion, do you have other suggestions as well?

Has anyone been able to confirm if the N910C (Exynos) is affected by the emmc failure? From what I have read it always seems to be Snapdragon versions that are hit by it.

I have N910C (Exynos) since 2014 and flash custom roms frequently and have no issue with it
I have had a Snapdragon N910F from Launch Week, haven't had a single problem.
The eMMC failure seems to affect mostly Note4s bought in 2015, from what I have seen.

Very likely. As much as I thoroughly enjoy mine, you may be better off with something newer.
Maybe look at a used Nexus 6? Otherwise LG G4 and LG V10 may be your best bet.

It seems it is really difficult to find a well rounded phone of this price-£300.
Not many phones have Amoled Screens at 5.7inch+....
Some won't have software updates but that's fine as long as there is strong developer support..

On Amazon the cheapest I've seen is about £418 and eBay the cheapest seen was about the same.
Maybe I will wait until Black Friday for some deals on some phones such as the OnePlus 3.
I will comment back when I get a new phone, if I do.
Thinking about it I might get the XA Ultra: 6inch edge to edge screen. No custom ROM support though...

Here's another vote for the Note 4. As far as features go, it's pretty loaded. AFAIK it's the only phone with QHD, IR blaster, expandable storage, 5.5+ inches. Granted its finger print sensor is pretty useless.
Also, I haven't had the problems mentioned above in this thread.
No no, simply NO. Unless you are getting it for like half price of a new OnePlus 3, absolutely not.

Am I stuck with my LG G2 unless I change carriers

Curious if I am stuck with my G2 unless I get off of Verizon since it appears none of their new phones can be rooted? Now mind you, I have three G2's so it might be awhile before I break all 3. Of course there is the chance for batteries wearing out and the known screen problems (which one of mine has right now) so I have to hope available parts don't dry up. I'm just curious if there are any newer Verizon phones that can still be rooted and allow for custom recoveries\ROMS or do need to stock up on G2's while I can?
It would be easy to find the answer to your question. I don't think you have to be stuck with a 3-4 year old phone just because of root. A few off the top of my head rootable with plenty of support on XDA for Verizon is the
LG g4
Moto X pure
Galaxy Note 4
Nexus 6p
And that's just a few I know of for sure. A quick and easy Google search would satisfy your queries.

Exynos...
For me it's the superior version.
More ROMS exist for the Snapdragon version but Exynos still has quite a few great ROMS to chose from.
Don't root my phones much anymore so I need it to be powerful and lag free in stock form.
For gaming and other power hungry tasks the Exynos processor is what you need.
Plus battery life is very good. Never have problems there
Average 5-6hr screen on time with heavy use

The ability to root the G4 seems to be very dependent upon just which version of firmware and hardware that you get when you receive the phone. The more recent versions have anti rollback implemented in both the firmware and the hardware making it very challenging or even impossible to root. If you happen to end up with one running LP then it would be fairly straightforward to root, but the same cannot be said of MM.
Even the Verizon variant of the G3 hardware has been booby trapped with the later releases. Beware of the VS985k, for example. The 'k' indicates that it has anti rollback, and once MM gets installed, it can't be reverted to LP.
