Oneplus 5 not detecting NFC tags - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

I bought these NFC tags from amazon http://www.amazon.in/LINQS-NTAG216-Stickers-Waterproof-Compatible/dp/B01DUG1FX6. My OP5 doesn't seem to detect them. I used trigger and NFC tools app from the playstore but none of them worked. Any suggestions?

Are you matching the tags to the correct spot on the phone? Try holding then up to the camera lense.

try asking in Q&A forum

Maybe you did this already but maybe you may have missed it. My phone came with NFC turned off. Check on wireless and network settings where it says more and check if NFC is on.

I almost completely forgot that the nfc antenna lies above the lens.

Yes. Because nfc only works through glass.

Unknown system noise

Would just like to start off by saying my brain is incredibly drained so if this is really a stupid question I apologise.
My nexus 4 has been making a weird noise for the past hour when it is moved suddenly or layed down, it is a system noise, not a creak or mechanical one as such. I just can't work out what is causing android to make the noise, any help? I have attached a recording of the sound. I recreated it by moving it about but it doesn't do it everytime.
No ideas?
Doesn't anyone even recognise the system sound?

Not off the top of my head, sorry. Are you sure it isn't connected to an app you've installed? Perhaps something that uses the accelerometer?
Its the noise it makes when failing to read an NFC chip. No idea why it would be randomly making it though!
No apps were running at the time. Failing to read the NFC? That is rather strange. It hasn't been doing it since, I hope that doesn't mean the NFC is a dud in mine.
Did you have your wallet near by? Some credit cards have rfid chips in them. That could have been triggering the nfc.

No, no cards in the vicinity at all. I replicated the noise by just holding the phone on the table and moving one side up and down.
For what it's worth, mine was doing exactly the same thing - I usually put it down on my wallet instead of a desk to avoid dust/scratches, but now have a contact-less payment card in there, so am assuming that's the culprit! Have restarted and am keeping away from my wallet - seems okay now.
Thanks for the advice!

Same sound kept on coming from my phone all the time, and I couldn't figure out it was
Turned out it was that the phone`s NFC kept on trying to read the 3M selfcheck tag on the library book I was keeping my phone on.
So apparently some RFID tags(ones that are not supposed to be NFC capable) seems to trigger the NFC feature on the phone, making this sound come up.

Add NFC to our european phones

Hi friends,
I've been thinking about if could be possible add nfc to our european models.
I tried to find chinese al10 rear case as repair piece so we might be able to convect to our phones (I dont know is our phone just dont have thr nfc label or also dont have nfc controller).
It might be possible to add other phones "labels" in this phone.
Other point is software, it might not have the drivers we could need ot we would need to flash the chinese rom...
So many wonders, my knowledge is so limited, but for me, thinking in payments, is the only thing I see to have my perfect phone.
Warm regards,
Nothing new?
I was thinking about the same thing for a few days but couldn't find anything, no help from others?
Does anybody know where the nfc antenna is actually located in the chinese version?
Thanks
I am chinese, I have a chinese version with nfc.
It almost useless because honor 7 nfc is on screen side .....
That's meam you put the some nfc tag on your phone , you can not touch you screen....
Nfc under the screen.... And in eu no nfc.... But but WHY!? ?
Because the Europeans are very, very, fussy and didn’t tolerate that! -->

IMHO, I just focus about payments capabilities, juat because of that i would like to add nfc.
I havent use that function yet in any phone, but android MM enables figerprint api, and so our phone fingerprint sensor is located in the backside, it could make sense if the nfc is located on the screen so at the time you approach the phone, you can scab your fingerprint
Maybe someone that knows how thar kind of payments works can bring feedback.
Regards

@chestermax ...where specifically on the screenside is the NFC antenna located? upper-left, lower-right, middle? Or having any references available to documentation where it's NFC location is drawn up?

Attached is a picture of NFC location. As is it obvious also from picture the NFC could be used only from front (screen) side of the phone. The back of the phone is metal and any antenna from that side is blocked. Therefore all other antennas (gsm, lte, gps, wifi) are placed on the top and bottom of device, where plastic edges replace the metal cover.

Android Pay

Android Pay does not seem to work for me, even though it is enabled. Has anyone been able to get this to work?

Yes. NFC is enabled.
Stupid question probably, but did you download the actual android pay app?
When you say it doesn't work, I assume you have a card added, and you called your bank to authorize it and your phone passes the safety net check (rooted or not, it needs to pass this)?
All of that's correct. Cards are added and phone is stock.
Again, has anyone with a PH-1 gotten Android Pay to work? It works flawlessly on my Pixel.
I just got it to work 2 times on the credit terminal at my shop.
A little slow, had to hold it pretty close.
I found that the NFC sensor seems to be located in the bottom half of the phone. So try tapping nearer to where your home buttons are to see if that works. (I'll test when I get a chance and report back)
Hunh. I just tried to use it at Home Depot and Whole Foods and couldn't get the system to recognize it at all. Though I was aiming for the top portion of the phone, so perhaps that's the issue.

I think you have found the solution! I could use NFC between the Essential PH-1 and my Pixel. NFC on the Essential Phone is located in a totally different spot than I was expecting. Not an ideal location, but it will work.
EDIT: Now working; Was: No dice for my Essential at many businesses
Android Pay installed and authorized, and NFC properly enabled.
EDIT: The sensor on the bottom edge worked, but the magic combination is that you need to unlock the phone (e.g., finger print) first, then place the bottom edge near the reader. Payment seemed fast. Will test at more locations tomorrow.
Paid with android pay at a maverick gas station earlier. Learned the hard way its at the bottom after waving it on the pad at the pump like a retard for 5 seconds lol. BUT, it worked just fine!
Sent from my PH-1 using XDA Labs
Lol, weird but actually good location for you to swing the bottom of the phone over the sensor instead of the whole back. And you have always had to unlock the device to pay on my Nexus.
And the NFC being low might be because they put the 60ghz data bit on the back as well.
Thank goodness for this thread. Will try using the bottom of the phone from now on.
I was having the exact same issues...waving the phone like an idiot time and again. It worked twice for me but not about 10 times...
so glad I found this thread, I now have Android pay working 100%
Great thread, thanks to all for the tips on the sensor location. Has anyone successfully used Android pay on this phone with a case?

I have the Tudia LULA and have had no troubles.
Using it here in the UK no problem ,but unlike my N6P where it's near the top ,on the PH-1 it's towards the bottom of the device
Sent from my PH-1 using XDA Labs
I'm using it with the Tudia Tamm case with no problems
Tap the bottom of the phone to the pos terminal.
Unlock phone with fingerprint and open app first.

RIP NFC.

Hey everyone,
I seem to have a problem with my NFC It's not working AT ALL. I tried it with multiple NFC products such as my speaker and using android pay methods. None of them worked at all. If my NFC is fried and needs replacing and would I have take the phone apart just to get to the NFC to replace it?
I really don't know what's wrong with it. The phone says its connected and ready to go but it STILL doesn't work? Anyone got any suggestions. Sorry to be a a pain.
I use the NFC on my N6P for golfing. I had trouble finding the "sweet spot" and the mfg of the tags I use referenced a Reddit discussion. Apparently, the sweet spot is up near the camera bulge because the NFC won't work through the metal back of the case. You might give that a try.

NFC is not working. Replacement help?

Hey everyone
I had my 6p for sometime now, done the important stuff such as replaced the battery. Before i got the battery replaced the NFC worked fine no problems whatsoever but since i replaced the battery the NFC does not work at all, how I found out it wasn't working was that when I went to pay for a drink through Google pay it would not connect to the machine and just didn't work at all and had to pay through card. I went home, I tried to connect my speaker via NFC that didn't work either. Plus I did not change the battery I took it to my repair shop they done the battery swap there. I've gotten to a point now that I think it might need to replace the NFC part in order to get it working again. Oh and another thing as well I used an called NFC check by Tapkey it says that everything is connected and ready to use. What can be the problem and how do I fix it.
Thanks.

It's possible theres no antenna in the replacement battery for your nfc. Not sure if that's how it works with 6p but would explain why it's connected but not working. You could try another battery if you change yourself or return it to where was fixed.

Haha My bad I misread your comment. How would the battery be linked with the NFC?
I found one on ebay here for the 6P:
