What better forum to get advice about the hermes and its clones than xda so here goes.
I currently have VZ and under contract until july 31. I have a friend that can get me a new htc tytn for about 630. I don't plan on canceling my contract with VZ because of the $175 ETF. I'll just get a cingular number and transfer my old number around the time my vz contract ends. Here is the question. Actually I have a couple of questions.
1. When do you think the kaiser will be available in the US? or a better question would be when can someone in the US get their hands on a kaiser?
2. Should I go ahead and get the TYTN or save about 200-300 by getting an 8525?
3. Since my VZ contract isnt up till July, should I just wait until then to get a TYTN, 8525, or possibly a kaiser (if its out. see #1)?
4. Anyone know the street price on a kaiser? Is it worth it over what the tytn offers?
I guess I need to make a decision within a week. Too many unknowns at this point, and it would be harder for me to get the answers by myself. Thats why I am asking here.

This seller seems to have multiple G1's to sell, the price is insane but that's what you get for a pre-release device, if anybody's interested go for it and come back with information.

I can get a G1 for a pretty good price, more than the retail will be but it hasn't released and will sell out quick, so yeah. Would anyone be interested in a G1 for like $600 shipped, I'll send it out on Monday morning overnighted USPS with insurance? Brand new, still in box. Let me know.

As for the iPhone, I have an iPhone 3G brand new in box like 8 feet away from me... And no intentions and/or temptations of removing it from the factory packaging.

Isn't full price $399...? Only having T-Mobile specific 3G bands, the G1 wouldn't get past EDGE on other carriers like AT&T...

Exactly, it would only get EDGE on AT&T... Why do you think I'd never buy one for myself?
And yeah, full price is $399 but considering they're already sold out and then some on preorders, good luck getting one any time soon.
I could get the phone for like $450-460 shipped right now, but like I said, I have no use for it. There are people paying $1000+ for them, so I figured 600 wouldn't be too bad for both sides.
The pre-order alottment is sold out, yes. The stores in 3G areas will be getting them on Oct. 22nd though. I guess if someone in a non-3G market wanted one ASAP and didn't want to wait until 11/10 -- might be happy to find you

There won't be plenty in stores, if you preordered before October 3rd you'll get yours shipped 22nd-23rd, if you preorder after it'll take them longer to get it to you. I'm willing to bet this turns out to be a lesser iPhone surge, but like I said it's irrelevant to me because I have AT&T. I was going to buy and re-sell it, instead I just gave the guy who asked me contact info of where to get it for $460, I'm too lazy to go through that.

Pretty expensive right? 626,95 USD (4 670,03 SEK) incl shipping to Sweden + tax and customs, but what options do you have when ordering to Europe? Is there a better deal, preferrable "Buy it now"?

I have mine for a few hours and already have it listed on eBay. I had to just touch it and look at it and now .. UP FOR AUCTION. I have the Xperia on order. I think it comes the end of the month. All I know is Windows Mobile.
Any way .. the phone is awesome. The thing I like the best as to the way it is built is the slide mechanism of the keyboard,. I think I have owned just about every GOOD PHONE out this year, including the HTC Touch Pro .. this keyboard is the nicest and the feel and the weight is just perfect. Hoping I like my Xperia as well ...

... I couldn't do it .. My auction was over $300 and I cancelled all bids and put my sim card back in. I will probably still buy the Xperia when it comes out - unless I fall in love with the dream. And if I don't I think I will give the Dream to my son rather than 'scalp' it on eBay.
Haven't had time to figure out how to just do the simple things .. I want to learn how to voice dial .. When I close a program is it really CLOSED or is it still running in the background sucking the life out of my battery ?? Maybe tonight I will take a closer look . . couldn't skip work 2 days in a row.

Viable to purchase unlocked g1's off ebay?

I've found some "unlocked" handsets on ebay for sale, but was wondering if they would still be restricted to the 2g network??
As that's where I thought they were currently with their "unlocking" process...
Also does T-Mobile do anything special in order for gmail to push mail to the device, or is that just like controlled entreily over a standard data connection?
2g/3g isn't a restriction. Its a hardware limitation.
When the phone is fully unlocked it will work on any network with both 2G and 3G.
From what I know it will not work with ATT 3G as they are different frequencies and I have heard lots of problems with peoples Unlocked G1's syncing to google/gmail under other carriers other than T-Mobile.
Well with the Orange San Fransisco just being released and the updated T-Mobile Pulse being back in stock my stock (haven't unlocked it and can't root it easily anyway due to being a Linux user) T-Mobile i5700 is looking less and less appetizing, to the point where i'm considering selling it and getting one of these devices to last 'till the end of my contract... or i can make another similar switch.
So i was just looking around the phone recycling websites seeing what i could get and i was surprised to see that you'd be lucky to get over £50 for it, which just isn't good enough considering you can still get over £100 for an N95. Does anybody have any idea what's going on here, or any suggestions on what would be a better way to sell it? Thanks.
Do you plan on sending it in for the free 4G upgrade? I think I will, only because in 2 years when its time for an upgrade and Im trying to sell it, it'll probably fetch a higher price.
Yes, I sniped the deal and as of now I have no intentions of using cellular data. Most likely I will send it in to get the 4G modem.
1) Because I may decide I may want it someday.
2) Apparently, there's only a 90 day window after they offer the upgrade to do it. I'd like to get it done in case I decide to sell it.
The upgrade should start in roughly 90 days, but the window is six month from that date.
Has anyone seen exactly where all our Xooms will be need to be shipped for this upgrade? I'm assuming that the address is in the states (or else Motorola is even crazier than we thought), but I was just wondering if anyone had seen which city/state they would all be going to.

No. I will not be shipping it back for the 4G upgrade.
As far as I'm concerned, it'll be the $600 WiFi only XOOM that I wanted Moto to release on launch day. I raised my voice on multiple forums on behalf of the large majority who want a WiFi version, giving solid, valid reasons why Moto needed to release the WiFi version at launch or shortly after. I even got responses from a Moto employee on Engadget and from Matt at the official forum, who both said our concerns were 'being heard' by their superiors. Yet we still only have rumors to go on, and the only official news we have about a WiFi version is that Europe will be getting it in Q2. Since Motorola is failing to give us any info (despite at least 15 messages a day on their twitter asking them directly about it), we can only assume this means that Motorola doesn't plan on releasing the WiFi version here until Europe has it. Fail!
So, do I feel bad about getting a $200 discount? No. For one thing, I thought it was legit until I saw the update on Droid-Life. For another thing, they should have released the WiFi version and they probably wouldn't have had people looking for exploits to save money on their $150 markup (probably more since each 3G radio is under $50 for them).

Has anyone received it yet? On the Track Packages page, the "Items Shipped On:" is blank. When I go to view order, it says shipped on February 24 via one day shipping but no tracking number button. The estimated delivery is Monday - Tuesday.

I'm with you on that and have no intention of using it for 3G/4G but I'm sending it back thinking it may be needed for something in the future so all models have the same hardware.
I hate you all. I prepaid it in advance, and bouhgt it on launch day, only to see "those that didn't do so get 200 bucks off"...
I was too busy playing with it to check the news sites that day, and missed the window.

Sorry, dude. I know how you feel. It seems like I ALWAYS miss stuff like this, but it's nice to get lucky for once. It's actually the first time I've ever snagged a deal like this (and I've seen lots of online deals caused by mistakes and BARELY missed them. It's frustrating.) My brother caught a 'mistake' deal from Best Buy a few years ago, and all of his friends were pissed, too. lol
I don't use 3G but I'll be doing the update because I plan on selling my Xoom next year when we start seeing quad core tablets.
I've been asking around EE stores since the 2nd (when Nokia said it would be available) but it just seems EE and Phones4U have pretty much no definite date when it is coming! Just me?

Not many people at all if anyone does. EE are pushing nokia for changes or branding and this is holding the phones up.
Nope - seriously thinking about it as I really like the new offering... but if its EE only for 6 months they will loose me to Nexus4 BIG MISTAKE NOKIA! I have my own SIM and want to buy.... absolutely no way I'll be signing a £40+ a month contract with EE!
Got one today from one of the Phones4u/Curry's concession stores on the north circular in London for £459
simfree but locked to EE/Orange/Tmobile, tried in store with Three and O2 sim cards but none worked "your device works only certain carriers, contact customer services" or something along those lines.
Mine arrived this morning. Heavier than I expected, but a piece of class. Just in the process of getting all my XBL games installed...

Update: well I called phones4u customer service this morning and they were really apologetic and offered an instant refund, they even rang the local store for me and told them I was coming to return the phone. A guy in the store checked a few other 920's with the stock checker thing, they registered as unlocked, but when I tried my 3 sim in them they wouldn't accept it. I doubt I'll get 920now as by the time the EE exclusivity expires, there'll be better phones out.

I won't be getting a 920 because of EE, i'm with t-mobile currently but don't want to stay with them as signal strength in my area is not great, used to be on o2 and would be perfect around here, looking to switch back to o2/vodaphone, and sadly theres no 920, and since it seems to be sim locked then definatly no chance of me getting one.
Also dislike t-mobiles policy of charging to hear voicemail. Haven't checked if EE are the same but since i'm on the EE network now and coverage hasn't got better i'm not sold.
The staff in my local Phones4U were aware that the 920 was locked to EE (T-Mobile and Orange), so I think it's a store education issue that you experienced.
Yep - Nokia is dropping a real bollock here.... I'd like the phone, but not with EE!

I had no intention of getting the 920 but I phoned to cancel with t-mobile and they did a silly low price contract with a fee for the phone, essentially its costing less than £450 for 2 yr contract with phone, felt it rude to turn it down. I am still annoyed about the voicemail thing mind, but since o2 was going to cost around £100 more the 2 years with the 820 I figured I can live with it! (that was with staff discount as well!)
I haven't got it yet, but one of my friends recieved the black 920, haven't seen it yet but he said he couldn't get over how impressive the screen is.
I take it theres no way to simunlock these devices yet?
