I saw on the news that the AT&T Tilt is released today.
I went to the AT&T website, and sure enough, there it is:

Man, I can't believe this! I had no idea a new model was coming so soon, I literally purchased my 8525 3 days ago!! Of course, the sales guy didn't bother to tell me a new model was coming with WM6 and more storage room, even though from what I told him, that would obviously be something of great importance to me. Of course, now I've got a custom WM6 ROM on it, wonder if there's any chance I could exchange it if I flash it back to the original?

Hehehe, What are they going to do? Tell you "No"? Try it. Actually, if you bought it from a corporate store, I'd go back and kick your salesweasel's ass for selling it to you knowing that the Tilt is around the corner.
Also, I find it funny that on the website, the 8525 is still $50 higher than the tilt. Not exactly the best way to clear out of old stock
Yeah, they did say I can exchange the phone for 30 days, so I am going to give it a try. Already have it flashed back and ready to go. The sales rep I talked to on the phone doesn't seem to have much of a clue, he said the Tilt wasn't the actual 8525 replacement, another model called the "Pilgrim" was supposed to be the upgrade and the Tilt he said was slower which is why it was priced lower. I checked the specs, and it's the same speed CPU so not sure what he was talking about, and it has double the memory as well! No idea what the Pilgrim is, I would guess that is just the internal AT&T code for the Tilt/Kaiser.
I don't get it... how come the 8525 is more expensive than the Tilt?
Also, is the AT&T branded model available with any other contract or perhaps without one?

Yes definately.. restore it using the image on the cd that came with it. They have a 30 day return/exchange policy. Go back in there and give your salesman hell for not telling you about the newest one to come out..
Yeah, no problems at all exchanging it for the Tilt! What a nice device this is, I love the black (not so much the silver keys though). Boy AT&T really went nuts with the bloatware though, with the extra memory this device gave them they just loaded all kinds of junk on it. Twice as much base memory, but comes with only about 90 Meg free. Ridiculous. Can't wait until we get some nice cooked ROMs for it! I'd load on the HTC ROM but looks like we still need a fix for the keyboard (probably won't take long!)
As for giving the sales guy a hard time, well, they seem to be as confused by the price as we are. He is still convinced there must be *some* reason they are pricing it below the 8525.
I just bought one too. got $375 while not eligible for upgrade, but did renew contract with AT&T. I had just bought a new 8525 from E-Bay but I think I'll E-Bay it back

Basically, this is the direct replacement. The Blackberry 8820 and 8310 will directly replace their predecessors at the same price point also. My understanding is that not all stores were going to get Tilts immediately, while waiting for the 8525 stock to be depleted
But as far as the device being any slower or lacking over the 8525, the rep you talked to was clueless (or just trying to make sure the 8525s move). The 8525 was nearly perfect. The Tilt is just going to be nearer to nearly perfect, in my opinion.
It has dual processors, so it is actually much faster than the 8525.
The reason it's less expensive is because when AT&T gets new equipment they actually try to push that more rather than worry about clearing old stock.
This seller seems to have multiple G1's to sell, the price is insane but that's what you get for a pre-release device, if anybody's interested go for it and come back with information.

I can get a G1 for a pretty good price, more than the retail will be but it hasn't released and will sell out quick, so yeah. Would anyone be interested in a G1 for like $600 shipped, I'll send it out on Monday morning overnighted USPS with insurance? Brand new, still in box. Let me know.

As for the iPhone, I have an iPhone 3G brand new in box like 8 feet away from me... And no intentions and/or temptations of removing it from the factory packaging.
Back to the G1, I think I have someone set to buy, but I'll update here later on.
Isn't full price $399...? Only having T-Mobile specific 3G bands, the G1 wouldn't get past EDGE on other carriers like AT&T...

I could get the phone for like $450-460 shipped right now, but like I said, I have no use for it. There are people paying $1000+ for them, so I figured 600 wouldn't be too bad for both sides.
The pre-order alottment is sold out, yes. The stores in 3G areas will be getting them on Oct. 22nd though. I guess if someone in a non-3G market wanted one ASAP and didn't want to wait until 11/10 -- might be happy to find you

There won't be plenty in stores, if you preordered before October 3rd you'll get yours shipped 22nd-23rd, if you preorder after it'll take them longer to get it to you. I'm willing to bet this turns out to be a lesser iPhone surge, but like I said it's irrelevant to me because I have AT&T. I was going to buy and re-sell it, instead I just gave the guy who asked me contact info of where to get it for $460, I'm too lazy to go through that.

I have mine for a few hours and already have it listed on eBay. I had to just touch it and look at it and now .. UP FOR AUCTION. I have the Xperia on order. I think it comes the end of the month. All I know is Windows Mobile.
Any way .. the phone is awesome. The thing I like the best as to the way it is built is the slide mechanism of the keyboard,. I think I have owned just about every GOOD PHONE out this year, including the HTC Touch Pro .. this keyboard is the nicest and the feel and the weight is just perfect. Hoping I like my Xperia as well ...

... I couldn't do it .. My auction was over $300 and I cancelled all bids and put my sim card back in. I will probably still buy the Xperia when it comes out - unless I fall in love with the dream. And if I don't I think I will give the Dream to my son rather than 'scalp' it on eBay.
Haven't had time to figure out how to just do the simple things .. I want to learn how to voice dial .. When I close a program is it really CLOSED or is it still running in the background sucking the life out of my battery ?? Maybe tonight I will take a closer look . . couldn't skip work 2 days in a row.

Viable to purchase unlocked g1's off ebay?
Hey guys,
I've found some "unlocked" handsets on ebay for sale, but was wondering if they would still be restricted to the 2g network??
As that's where I thought they were currently with their "unlocking" process...
Also does T-Mobile do anything special in order for gmail to push mail to the device, or is that just like controlled entreily over a standard data connection?
2g/3g isn't a restriction. Its a hardware limitation.
When the phone is fully unlocked it will work on any network with both 2G and 3G.
From what I know it will not work with ATT 3G as they are different frequencies and I have heard lots of problems with peoples Unlocked G1's syncing to google/gmail under other carriers other than T-Mobile.
How much would I be able to sell a G1 for on ebay? Interested in getting a new android phone possibly the droid... It's of course rooted and everything with a skin on it.
I dunno about you but since were both in Canada, where I live and around Toronto, it goes for 150-200. You can probably get 250 if you're lucky
Hello, I recently destroyed (mostly by accident ) my iPhone 3gs and have been trying to decide on a new phone. After searching for awhile I believe I want the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant i9000 from Bell.
I am a Telus customer and have read quite a bit on XDA and some other sites about unlocking and am under the impression it's not too difficult to do on your own. I've unlocked a couple devices before (HTC Diamond and an iPhone 3g for a friend) and it went smoothly.
I've looked at the iPhone 4s and they are impressive however the antenna issue is impossible to over look.
Mainly what I am wondering is am I going to be happy going from an iPhone 3gs to the Samsung i9000. The phone is gorgeous and everything I have seen from it has impressed me. For some reason however (perhaps because I was so happy with my iPhone, speed, ease of use, etc.) I feel like I am going to miss my iPhone. I realize Android is superior to iOS and is much more flexible and I use Google for everything so that's a huge plus in my eyes.
My second question I suppose would be where can I buy an i9000? Can I just go into the Bell store and buy one contract free? Do I have to tell them I am going to Telus? Will they make me buy a SIM card or anything of that sort?
Lastly.. The i9000 on the Bell.ca website claims a 499.95 price off contract. eBay, Amazon and pretty much anywhere else I look is saying upwards of 600 dollars for one. This is unlocked of course. But is it being unlocked actually worth 100 - 200 dollars more? If so I might get into the unlocking business..

Hey, i got mine SGS from Costco (Montreal) at 498,50 $ (bell, no contract) and im on Fido. got free unlock with app. you can get free from android market. Its an amaising phone.

I would also like to ask another question about the attenuation on the phone. I've heard it has a bit of a signal issue when held. Anybody else experience this?

I'm in urgent need to buy a phone since I killed my HD2 and the store I bought it from originally (in the US) seems to be out of stock.
So if anybody knows if it's safe to order from this N1wireless can chip in I'll appreciate it since I'm ordering from outside the US I don't want to get burnt, it won't be easy for me to fight any legal battles from abroad.

Well, after sleeping over it and today a bit calmer I decided not to risk it with that store. I found the reviews page and it looks a bit too dodgy to order from /to the outside of the US.
As somebody pointed in that page the negative ones are very detailed and the positives are very vague (like fakes).
Anyway, I'm still looking for a replacement phone and the more I look the more I want another HD2
I 've been looking at the Galaxy 2s and it looks good but then you see comparison review and it's amazing that an almost 3yr old HD2 can still present decent battle to a dual core.
I was hoping my HD2 would last until next year so I can try the Edge but now it died I need a WiFi hot spot phone before February so I think I can kiss the Edge goodbye...
Sorry I went off topic but I'm in desperate search of my next phone and I've been a HTC fanboy for a couple of generations and now there are no HTC in the market that fit my needs. Why they did stop selling the HD2???? (darn!)

Thanks Jim but the one I need is the T9193 that has the 850Mhz in the 3G band and as far as I could find in amazon or ebay or prettymuch anywhere the want over $700 for them. The ones at the $200 price range seem to be the Tmo bands that they won't work down here in 3G.
I gave up looking for it. now it's a matter of spending $600 on a new phone (either the HTC vivid or Galaxy skyrocket) and learn to fall in love with it or try to get a cheapo with wifi hotspot and survive until the HTC Edge comes out...
