[Q] DD to dump factoryfs?

If i use DD to dump factoryfs, can i use this in a Rom as it is?
Ok so i found out how:
ADB shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/stl6 of=/sdcard/factoryfs.rfs
Is this any different to adb pull ?
that could be used to make a full backup of your phone for future recovery directly with ADB?
You sure it's possible? I'm intrigued

Once you have have the factoryfs.rfs file how do you use this to flash the phone back?
I used this method to take a copy of the factory firmware before flashing a ROM. I can see in the TAR file used in the ROM I flashed has other RFS files as well.
flash it

Hi Stubborn_d0nkey,
Thanks but I'm a bit of a noob at this. How exactly do you setup odin to do it as odin wants tar files and when using "one package" that tar combines lots of rfs files.
Can you explain step by step
thanks

This is becoming interesting. So one could dd all the mount points and flash it back, or dd it back in download mode.
Which block devices should you backup ? To what rfs files do they correspond ?
Another question I have : where are the mount points defined ? I couldn't locate an fstab.

[How-To]Root Samsung Galaxy Grand WITHOUT increasing the Bin Counter

Hi,
For everyone Using the Samsung Galaxy Grand I9082 Here is a way to Root your Phone without Increasing the BIN Counter. In the Second Post I am posting the Steps for advanced Users on how to do it yourselves.
In the Third Post I am posting a pre-rooted Firmware for people Who just want to root the Phones Without all the Headache for Creating their Own.
Be Advised that even though this will Not increase the Bin Counter it is still advised to Flash a Stock Firmware when Claiming warranty.
For those who want to know the Procedure
Requirements
1) Linux (Preferably Ubuntu)
2) An Official Firmware tar (Search http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/)
3) SU Binary and Ext4uils (Attached)
4) Patience
5) Windows (To use ODIN)
6) ODIN (To Flash)
Flash the Firmware through ODIN First so that there are no Firmware Mis-matches later.
Steps:
1)Create a "sam" directory in your Home Directory (home/username) folder where username is your linux username.
2)Extract the downloaded firmware, then move system.img and cache.img to home/username/sam dir
3)Extract su.zip and ext4utils.zip in the same folder where you have system.img and cache.img.
4)Open a terminal window, and enter:
Code:
mkdir /home/username/sam/system
sudo –i (this will ask for password..Enter your Root password)
apt-get install zlib1g-dev
cd /home/username/sam
make
mv system.img system2.img
./simg2img system2.img system.img
mount system.img system
Copy the su binary to the mounted folder
Code:
cp su system/bin/su
Give the Binary the Required Permission
Code:
chown root:root system/bin/su
chmod 06755 system/bin/su
Code:
./mkuserimg.sh -s sam ./new_system.img ext4 ./temp 1511M
Now unmount the system File and delete it
Code:
umount system
rm system.img
Rename new_system.img to system.img
Code:
mv new_system.img system.img
Now Create a flashable tar:
Code:
tar cf rooted.tar system.img
Now you need to tar the cache.img file we copied as well.
Code:
tar cf cache.tar cache.img
All Done. Now you can Flash them through ODIN.
In ODIN only Auto reboot and F. Reset Time should be checked
In PDA select: rooted.tar
In CSC select: cache.tar
After the phone Boots Download the Superuser app through Play Store.
Now you have root and No Increase in Bin Counter.
I am not that good at explaining.Incase of Question please ask them here or PM me
Also Please Consider Donating to Support My Work
For those who Just want to root.
Here i am Posting the Pre-Modded Firmware. The firmware is based on I9082XXAMB3_I9082ODDMB2_INU.zip
If you are on a different firmware then please download the firmware and Flash through ODIN.Link for the Official Firmware is:
http://uppit.com/46oxsxob7re3
Also Download the Pre-rooted firmware as well.It is in 3 parts so you need to Download all three. Also Download 7zip to extract the files.
Links for the files are:-
1) https://www.dropbox.com/s/9jh9yi88yuz49hr/Samsung Rooted.7z.001
2) https://www.dropbox.com/s/g1rk1qfuk440839/Samsung Rooted.7z.002
3)https://www.dropbox.com/s/1ej082e1z4ipqwc/Samsung Rooted.7z.003
right click on Samsung Rooted.7z.001 ->7zip ->Extract.
Wait for it to Extract
Open the extracted folder.there will be 2 files:-
1)rooted_system.tar
2)csc.tar
open ODIN:
In PDA select rooted_system.tar
In CSC select csc.tar
and Flash it.Wait for the Phone to start.once it Starts go to the Play Store and download the superuser app.
All done now you have a rooted phone Without increasing the BIN Counter
I am not good at explaining. Incase of any problems post here or Send me a PM.

Yes root package refers to SU Zip and it is not flashable..it is to be included if creating a pre-rooted firmware. No it wont Flash CWM.And no it wont reset the counter.
This is basically for people who have not yet rooted their Device or for people who dont want to increase their counter.

chotu222 method is the best because it also helps in addons of him as well as CWM
It is not about rooting a device, it is about the ROM that we are going to get as well as many other features.I am sure he is going to figure out a way to reset bin counter.

chottus method might be the best , but respect the developer and it is not an easy task...this method allows you too root without voiding the warranty
if this doesn't benefit you.. don't discourage the developer bro:good:

Actually we can have Features without custom recovery as well.At the Moment there is no Custom ROM so it makes no point in Increasing the Counter. And What if someone has to submit his phone at the service center before we can reset BIN Counter?
There are a lot of things to consider when dealing with a samsung Phone.Anyway..If you dont like it then dont use it.

btw the command lines are correct! cheers!!

Well, based on the stock ROM I downloaded it (I9505XXUAMDM_I9505OXXAMDB_I9505XXUAMDM_HOME.tar.md5),I deleted the the files sirus2012 was referring to and I am stuck at a point were the Odin says fail while flashing the ROM....
Trying to figure out if I need to delete another more file from the .TAR
After the FAIL status in Odin, I disconnected the phone, removed battery and placed it again and I had an error saying 'Firmware needs to be recovered via Kies'
I, once then, flashed again the stock ROM(without the deleted files) and noticed there was no WiFi....
So I either have a phone with no WIFI, or an error and phone can't boot
Hope I can find a way out of this!

Seems that there`s no real method or solution, pity, it`s a waste of a phone the way it is..

Don't give up on that.....I think there will be a solution sooner or later....(I'll try to find it asap) because this 'phone' is really good
Or it could be something really small that we can't see and do it wrong.

I decided to make this post to help people bring life back to the I9505X live demo unit. I know how conflicting some some sites are so I just wanted to write something all can follow step for step. Hope it helps like it helped me
1 Download rom from www.sammobile.com
2 Once file is downloaded you will have something looking like this I9505XXUAMDM_I9505OXXAMDB_BTU.zip (this is one i used) http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/?page=1&model=GT-I9505&pcode=0#firmware
3 Extract the zip file
4 You will now have somthing like this I9505XXUAMDM_I9505OXXAMDB_I9505XXUAMDM_HOME.tar.md5
5 Rename file to samrom.tar
6 Place this file on your desktop (this will be the tar file we want to edit)
7 Download cygwin from here http://cygwin.com/setup.exe and install
8 Move the tar file to C:\cygwin\home
10 Open cygwin
11 We need to delete some files from the tar file. to do so i will list the commands below and files that need deleting. after typing each line command please wait while the action completes as it will look like its doing nothing. commands as follows
$ tar --delete --file=samrom.tar NON-HLOS.bin
$ tar --delete --file=samrom.tar modem.bin
12 Once the last command is done just close cygwin (depending on the rom you download there maybe other files that need deleting)
the files remaining should be
boot.img
cache.img.ext4
hidden.img.ext4
recovery.img
system.img.ext4
(you can check this by opening the samrom.tar file with winrar)
13 Download odin and install from http://www.android.gs/download-odin-3-07/
14 Make sure samsung drivers are installed if they are not download em from http://www.mediafire.com/download/d2h54mx7kt4uupt/SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones(3).exe
15 Open odin and connect your S4
16 Click on PDA and place the samrom.tar file in there and click start (it will flash)
17 after it has flashed install TWRP and install adams kernel explained here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256252&page=14
i hope this helps people who are having trouble installing roms on there S4 live demo unit. if you would like to know anything or having trouble message me im happy to try help.
Thanks to marian_86 for helping me sort out this problem for me
If this helped you please hit thank me

Well I think I figured it out with my S4 demo unit to make WiFi work.
All the steps were followed BUT...
I DIDN'T delete the two files(modem and NON-hlos) and continued with the procedure
The most important step was .17 which redirects you to another thread about TWRP and Adams Kernel...
Following the steps there where enough to solve my issue.
And now my WiFi works pretty good(so far so good at least for the last 2-3 hours )
Let me know if it worked for you too!
Cheers!

[Q] N910F EFS messed up, lost network access help???

Well, first of all.... I made a clean copy of my EFS folder before having this problem but.....using the lovely and simple commands copy and paste and now the files don't have the correct permissions and owners so nothing changes when I copy them back so my question is...
Could you guys please provide me a list with all the N910F EFS files + permissions and owners?
*EDIT*
My IMEI, serial number, baseband..... are all correct.
Thanks:crying:

same problem here also, except, i have original imei intact and can make calls, send sms etc. flashed original firmware through odin and through kies, no luck, efs file 0mb. I have lost finger print scan and my serial number is wrong.
I had a similar problem a while back, came across this info here, the 'dev' files mentioned are for a N910G, just type 'mount' at a terminal to see which 'dev' file the efs partition mounts on. I used Method 1, but Method 2, does essentially the same thing in the end, so which ever you find easiest. Damn saved my phone, I even bought a replacement online before I found this solutionl.
Fix screwed up EFS Partition.

(Used METHOD 2 on 09-01-2015, worked a treat, RaSTuS)
(Will try METHOD 1 next time)
METHOD 1
1. Install stock Firmware via Odin then rerun autoroot (to regain root)
2. Install TWRP via Odin, reboot to recovery.
3. Install SuperSU from external SD Card.
4. Do an "adb shell" when phone is in recovery mode to run commands via TWRP.
From the ADB shell: Reset the EFS partition with the following commands:
mke2fs /dev/block/mmcblk0p13 (for N910G Note 4)
mkdir /efs
mount -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p13 /efs
Do a factory reset, reboot system
Afterwards, no more boot looping, the phone successfully registered on the
mobile network, and my IMEI is there and correct. Seems like the EFS partition
can rebuild itself now I guess...
Gotta love the XDA community !!!
METHOD 2
You can also try just running Commands via TWRP before using Odin to revert to
stock, re-rooting etc..Worked for me while I was doing some restore testing with
Jovy's modded kernel ..Just trying to save you some time..
Using TWRP Terminal Command To Complete this evolution...
1. Reboot to recovery
2. Hit "Advanced" Select "Terminal Command".
3. Hit "Select" (lower right corner) to select root (/) folder.
4. keyboard will open, type in the following commands, make sure you put the
spaces and / where they need to be, it needs to look exactly as outlined.
mke2fs /dev/block/mmcblk0p13 (for N910G Note 4)
Hit Go - The command will run.
Clear the input box, type the following command:
mkdir /efs
Hit Go - The command will run.
Clear the input box, type the following command:
mount -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p13 /efs
Hit Go - The command will run.
You can now back out of the terminal command, and follow the rest of the
directions.

I tried that and those solutions didn't work because I'm the biggest idiot in this galaxy:laugh:, some time ago I deleted the EFS golden backup in the service menu and I think that's why it didn't rebuild after I erased the main EFS partition but the good thing is that I made a clean backup of it so I can copy the files back to the EFS folder, the thing is that I just copied and pasted them so now all files have root as the owner and I know some of them had system, radio, wifi... as owners but I can't remember which ones, I think I could fix it if I see a list with the files, permissions and owners. Thanks anyway:good::good:
*EDIT*
