Flash G955U1 With ENG_BOOT.tar And Modified ODIN. HOTSPOT, NO BLOATWARE (Confirmed) - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S8+ Guides, News, & Discussion

Successfully flashed from G955USQU1AQEF to G955U1UEU1AQE3 using this method.
1. Backup your data. I found out the hard way that the ENG_BOOT.tar will reset the phone (I know... noob mistake).
2. Reboot into download mode and use the modified Odin to flash ENG_BOOT_G955U.tar under BL.
(I rebooted after this and went through the setup... Im not sure if you have to, but I know it will work if you do)
3. Reboot back into download mode and flash the G955U1UEU1AQE3 files in their appropriate fields.
(I didn't use the HOME_CSC, and everything seems to work great!)
I take no credit for the existence of these files.
Enjoy!

I think this is just a Engboot. Not a root method with Engboot. Just Engboot.

@Lmax579 @hazmad
There is no root or bootloader unlock, it's just the engineering bootloader. The only useful thing that I have found is that it allows you to flash the G955U1 firmware. It may allow for downgrading, but just attempting what I already did was enough risk for now... Maybe I'll try it at one point.

So do you have to use the Engineering Kernel to switch firmware versions now?
I thought you could just flash the U1 firmware using the modified Odin if you wanted to.

It doesn't have carrier bloatware, and enables tethering for other carriers. Possibly quicker updates, because there would be no wait for the carrier to release it, not positive on that tho.

None available, but I suggest you use the search function and do some reading because this has been mentioned dozens of times already. The best you can do at this point is take the phone to a BestBuys with a Sumsung Kiosk and see if they will reflash it. You need to search to find out more information about it.

Sounds like it needs to be replaced (warranty or insurance), but I would try for warranty first. If it bricked for no reason at all, I assume you are not rooted and have nothing custom on the phone? Because if you do, it could prevent a warranty claim. Samsung can and will send you a bill if they find anything has been tampered with. Good luck.
You can check here...
Mind you however, that is ONLY for devices running pre-MF3 bootloaders. If you attempt to flash it as a stock recovery on a MF3 device your end up with a brick. If your on MF3 and have a brick currently, there isn't a way to go back outside of sending the phone back to Samsung or going to Best Buy's Samsung Experience Center.

This is by far your best option, use ODIN and flash these files to return to a stock MF3. Updating to anything higher then MF3 is generally ill-advised. At least for the moment...

Have you tested or seen anyone else report that the current Safestrap works with MJ6 or you can even gain root access with MJ6?
Not being rude, but please don't offer advice if you are unsure of the outcome (this means more than one person has confirmed working or you have tested it yourself). I personally don't think it hurts to make a suggestion but let the person know it hasn't been tested or you are unsure of the outcome.
Had the OP taken your advice before you were corrected, they would have been upgraded to MJ6 with no option for running a custom ROM or getting root access (hopefully this won't be the case for long).

Is there any TWRP or other recovery for SM-G930V

Seems like the only recovery is see in TWRP is for the edge or international versions of the model, so I'm having a hard time adding a recovery. Can anyone help??? I'd greatly appreciate it.
No...the phone just got root and the bootloader is really locked down. No one saw us getting root, so who knows what can happen.

FlashFire is the compatible recovery. There are two ROMs for the Verizon S7 Edge. http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/development I have personally verified that the PlayStore ROM posted for the Edge will work on the S7 flat.
I should mention that you need to be on the U firmware prior to flashing those ROMs. The ROM also installs the G935 engineering kernel, so you need to flash the G930 boot kernel with Odin afterwards. I can make a write-up later if there is any interest.
I can even modify his ROM with the correct build.prop and kernel for the G930V.
How's the stability and finctionality?
A guide would be awesome. How do I get it up and running lol.

If you intend to root it, then you still need to use the same engineering kernel. I will say that before I rooted the U-firmware, the phone was much smoother and faster in stock form than the stock Verizon firmware.

Not just the kernel alone. Flash the U firmware and you will be able to select any band, as long as the radio is in the phone for it.

Downgrade apg1 to pd8?

Is it possible if so how to do it
Don't think so. I heard that the bootloader is different in PD8. Can't hurt to try though, right?
let me know if you can I would like to downgrade to PD7 so I can flash SM-G935U since it is also U2
---------- Post added at 06:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:54 PM ----------
You can try flashing the ENG BOOT then downgrading it to PD8
Yes its possible. Go to the firmware thread and download the pd8 firmware and extract it. Open Odin and put each file in it's respected place (file that starts with ap in the ap slot, CSC in the CSC slot etc) and then flash. After reboot you should be good to go. Warning though, make sure you have everything backed up somewhere else though because it will wipe your entire internal data.

Since they are all official and signed files I would assume that this would not trip knox. But I can not verify for sure. Also I thought knox checks to see if the boot loader is unlocked.
I have another question. with an unlocked boot loader don't we still have the problem of dm-verity being enabled that would stop use form flashing mods and roms.

It is not bad, but comes with a later bootloader which can limit some options.

Downgrade from 6.0.1 to 4.4.2

Can someone please upload the stock rom, kernel, and modem for 4.4.2 NCG? I have tried atleast five time using what I thought to be the files and keep getting stuck on a black screen with a blue status light after flashing with flashfire from pb1 using the guide on the 'top topics'. Can someone please help me out?
What's the problem to pull it off the stock firmware?
BTW, I'd try BOK3 rather then BPB1.

G900VVRU1ANCG_G900VVZW1ANCG_G900VVRU1ANCG_HOME.zip along with the stock modem and kernel are what I need to use for https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve.../guide-downgrade-to-kk-nk2-ncg-mm-lp-t3686858 ? G900VVRU1ANCG_G900VVZW1ANCG_G900VVRU1ANCG_HOME.zip is the stock firmware file?
(Sorry if I ask stupid questions, I last had a S5 in 2014 before I became an Apple user, I'm extremely rusty. I'm all into blobs and future restore, not this flashing stuff)

May I ask why you need KK on your phone?
It's outdated and flashing KK is not an easy process.
As for the file, yes, it looks like a stock firmware file.
You can get it here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...rmware-pit-verizon-samsung-galaxy-s5-t3757416

I like the simple design and battery life of this version when I had it in 2014 on a G900A. This Marshmallow and Lollipop stuff is absolute bs. Battery life on Lollipop gives me 4 hours and Marshmallow about 2 hours. I'm hoping that KK would give me better performance and battery life on this G900V.

YES! I finally got it working! I had to flash G900V-NCG_MODEM_NON-HLOS.tar.md5 after the normal rom for it to work. Thanks for pointing me to the right direction to get the stock firmware

You are welcome.
My conrats to an Apple user
Modem really consists of two parts.
And now you know where to get the latest firmware when you get tired of KK

Yeah....This was a terrible idea. A auto update managed to install and I'm hard bricked. I'm not sure if it updated to the next update or to 6.0.1. Does you know where to find a debrick image?
(Don't laugh, lol)
Debrick image? Are you sure? Aren't you still able to use Odin mode?

Nope, only showed this 'Qhub' thing in device manager and didn't show in odin. Found a PD1 unbrick img, wrote it to a sd card with win32 disk imager, put in the sd, held the buttons for download mode, and it booted. Yeah, A total hard brick. I'm not gonna do that anymore, lmao. Found a great way to disable a phone though.
I also have a cid 15 g900v, what can that do compared to a cid 11? I know a bootloader unlock but what's that mean? I can install any rom?

Well done.
Congratulations.
It's interesting because you had BPB1 bootloader before the problem.

Locked bootloader is called locked because it can only boot a signed, stock kernel (boot.img).
It's locked in SM-G900V by default.
CID15 means that you can unlock the bootloader and use a custom/modified kernel, if you want.
For example, it's necessary for LOS or for rooting on Android 6.0 and above.

So I could build roms if I wanted?
Or you could sell the CID15 phone to me via swappa to make a little $$$? I'm actively looking for one...
I just downgraded from BPB1 and unlocked bootloader and disabled Reactivation lock last night. CID (15) I think it's CID, but 15 none the less. Also I knew the login info for Samsung account. I believe you have to know. I still have all files, but I don't know how I'd get them to you. Also have a paid FlashFire.APK. I can also tell you what you need to fill when it comes time to flash NCG via FlashFire. LET ME KNOW, BUD. Took me months to find all files and the correct method. Now on 6.0.1. Fully rooted.
