G6 delayed calls/sms - LG G6 Questions and Answers

I'm hoping this is the right place to ask, haven't posted here before, but I'm stumped. I recently upgraded to the LG G6, it's on Bell in Canada. Loving the phone, but having one big issue. When I'm connected to WiFi, I miss calls and texts, it's not consistent but often enough that it's a problem. As soon as I disconnect from WiFi I get any delayed texts and voicemail notifications for any calls I had missed. I'm just running stock, and these are the steps I've tried so far:
-changed sim, nope
-factory reset, nope
-tried sim in another new G6, nope
-turned off VoLTE in call settings, nope
-cannot find a WiFi calling setting or would have disabled as well
-checked with Bell and LG and both say they're unaware of any related issues and advised wait for patch.
Anyone have any other suggestions that may help? I really like the phone, not a Samsung fan and I'll wait for updates if need be, but maybe it's a quick fix in the settings somewhere. *fingers crossed*
Thanks!

WiFi calling setting is in the call option inside your system settings.
Could be your WiFi/router isn't good enough to handle that.

Sounds like a port forwarding issue quite honestly. Probably a Wi-Fi router issue more than the phone issue.

I don't have a WiFi calling option in my call settings, it should be directly under the volte toggle I thought, but can't find it anywhere. And happens on multiple WiFi networks. My home network itself is getting about 50mps download speed when I run speed test on my phone on WiFi.

That's very strange that you don't have a WiFi calling option. Is WiFi calling a region specific feature as well??

If I'm not mistaken, I think it's carrier and device specific. I checked through my Bell plan and I don't see it listed as a feature, but I know the G6 supports it. But I checked everywhere and can't find anything pertaining to it. Odd.

Maybe that is the issue. Perhaps the LG Software is trying to accept calls and texts through the WiFi signal but something that your carrier has done with the blocking off WiFi calling on their end is causing the bug. I'm not too savy with the way Android and it's coding works.

VoWiFi is carrier specific feature. though LG G6 supports it , carrier can disable the feature as you bought phone from him. you can go to hidden menu (277634#*# or *#546368#*872# , here 872 is the phone model , replace it with yours) and turn off VoWiFi.

If not with the US telecom operators can not set this feature
i had this problem when i updated to us99610f. it used to be on with verizon, and when i updated, it set to off and it was grayed out. what i did was cleared cache, rebooted a million times, but my friend work sfor verizon and he toggled it on and off on my account, so idk what did it, but now it works.
I am gray can not open
how to open this function;
I just got Verizon Advanced Calling enabled on my rooted US99610f. I saw on other posts that one has to toggle AC off/on in your VZW services settings online. I tried doing it from my PC but the VZW support page was unable to find any means of toggling the AC feature. I called Vz support and spent the better part of an hour with the tech trying to get this figured out. He was forced to call LG and we had a 3-way conversation that eventually solved the problem. The Vz tech had tried to enable AC on my phone from his side and it didn't take. It turned out that the problem was that it can't be done with the phone on wifi - it has to be an LTE connection. My phone is always on wifi at home. Once we figured that out, he was able to enable AC from his console and I didn't even have to turn it on in phone settings as it was already turned on when I checked it. Not sure if enabling AC on the US996 can be done without calling Vz tech but you can save a lot of time by turning off wifi before you call.

How to seting?

The Adv. Calling panel is grayed out when you get a US996. You can't change the setting until your carrier enables that capability on your account. To have that done you must contact your carrier to request it and you must not be on WiFi when they enable it. You can turn WiFi back on after you get Adv. Calling enabled.

I have a US996 (US99610f) on AT&T and I have advanced calling enabled through my carrier, but this option does not present itself in my menu at all, greyed out or not. Do you have a screenshot of the menu? I am attempting to work with LG, but they say only the T-Mobile and Verizon variants carry this option.
Sorry, no screenshot possible. The phone is absolutely unusable now and boots only into fastboot. Tried to send it to LG for repair and never have dealt with such a crowd of idiots. I am the pissed off owner of a $800 paper weight.

You can access it only using a third party app and creating a shortcut, I have mine on T-Mobile, and I used Quickshortcutmaker, select wi-fi, and it will give you the menu under the options, just create a shortcut to it...
I have been using my non-rooted US996 (unlocked version) on Verizon since I bought it last June. Shortly after getting it, per the very helpful instructions in this thread, I called Verizon and successfully had them turn on advanced calling.
I accepted the November 6, 2017 US99610n OTA update earlier this month
Yesterday I noticed that I could not access the internet while making a call, checked and sure enough, advanced calling was again turned off and greyed out. After a total of over two hours of phone time with five different Verizon techs, the fourth one being a level 2 tech, the issue has not been resolved. My guess is that this is due to the US99610n security update. The level 2 tech's final suggestion was that I take the LG V20 to a Best Buy store and have them "flash the software". He also opened up a ticket about the problem. I had the wifi turned off while we were trying out various solutions on the phone. I have not been to Best Buy yet.
Has anyone else experienced the same problem with advanced calling on their US996 after the US99610n security update?
Any solutions?

Today I took my phone into a Verizon store. A rep replaced the SIM card and Advanced Calling is now successfully turned on.
I'm posting here because reading this thread helped me to solve my issue. I have a US996 on Verizon's network, and when I recently updated to the latest firmware, I had lost "Advanced Calling" (aka HD Voice, aka VoLTE). It was grayed out on the user-accessible Settings menu. I couldn't use data and voice at the same time, and it was terrible.
The way I fixed it wasn't anything fancy like flipping some obscure switch in a hidden menu... or any black hat activity like using a build.prop editor or forcing it on via an "Activity" of Settings that's only accessible via command line... Nor was it anything that "only a dev could do" like making a kernel change. I tried all of those things.
All I had to do was jumpstart my provisioning by logging into my Verizon account, disable Advanced Calling, wait an hour (your time may vary), and then enabling it again. When I disabled it... I got some funky SMS message from Verizon with a bunch of garbled text... and I got something similar when I enabled it again. Shortly after I got the text from Verizon after re-enabling it... I went into settings, and Advanced Calling was turned on!
I promptly made a phone call, and the 4G icon didn't disappear from my status bar. While talking on the phone, I ran a speed test, and it was able to get a ping and test my down/up speeds. VoLTE had been restored... and it was glorious.
If anyone has an issue in the future like this... please remember this post and give the same thing a shot.
Best of luck!

wi-fi calling

Hi all just hoping someone might be able to answer my question with wi-fi calling.
I'm on vodafone UK network and have wi-fi calling enabled on my phone my account and app but when I make a call I can hear them but they cannot hear me.
So I asked vodafone why no One can hear me but I can hear them and they said it's not compatible for my phone yet.
But if I have settings on my phone to give me option of turning it on and off and making a call using my internet is this a fault with the phone or there software?
WiFi calling is all software and it's all depending on service provider. T-mo USA has WiFi calling for at least 4-5 years, that I have been using it myself and had it way before any other US carrier here. Now it became almost standard feature, but since each phone is slightly different, it's up to service provider to make it work, either by tweaking software on their servers or tweaking software on the phone itself. I remember few years back WiFi calling didn't work because the carrier didn't program their servers to accept new phone model ID, just to give you an idea what trivial problems we had in past. Wait a little, they should be able to fix it, it's probably something simple.
Ok thanks for your reply i shall wait and see but not trying to be funny but big companies like vodafone had time to sort this out before they put them in shop i think as an early pre order 8days before official release people was asking about wifi calling.
So they had enough time to sort out there servers.
You can also do it over Hangouts if you have a Google phone number set up...

There is a setting in the Dialer app which you can basically "turn off" the wifi calling by telling it to prefer cellular call than Wifi. Right now it's probably set to WiFi preferred.
I have it turned off now just disappointed have the function but not been able to use it.
Almost forgot, make sure your router is set to auto update, had that happen to me once, didn't even know auto update was off, my phone got firmware update and WiFi calling was gone due to router running some old firmware, not compatible with new phone software.

GSI LTE Fix

I've been messing around with GSIs and found that texting on LTE didn't work at all (at least on T-mobile). If you aren't experiencing this issue, then it's worth noting that all GSIs I've used default to 3g instead of LTE. Turns out it was a problem with VoLTE, and I found the fix!
The FIX!!
It's really easy, install the ims.apk that's attached to this post. That's it.
In case you don't trust me (which is understandable), you can compile it yourself by using this script
Any chance it solves LTE problems with stock OS as well?

IDK about what problems your talking about, but it definitely won't as the stock OS already has the necessary ims.apk.
In my case, even after installing this, (I use verizon) it won't even detect the sim no matter what rom I use...

Yup. LTE seemed a bit spotty on staying connected though, and it seemed like sometimes texts didn't come through promptly compared to stock. I installed the ims.apk and selected TD-SCDMA/CDMA/UMTS in the Phone info menu (*#*#4636#*#*). Volte worked, but again, the overall stability of the connection didn't feel quite right. Unfortunately, the lack of Bluetooth media ability pushed me back to stock again.
Does anyone have the knowledge to make a Magisk Module making these changes? It would make it much easier to switch between different builds to test.

Quick Question, since you are on tmobile..
Are you able to use WiFi Calling with GSI ROM?
I am thinking of going to GSI Q ROM but need to have WiFi calling working since coverage at my home is weak.
Thanks,
RJR
My carrier just enabled VoLTE for me today and I gave it a try.
While VoLTE works on Havoc 2.9 with this apk, I couldn't properly hang up the phone call and I have to reboot the phone.
By the way, I'm also having the issue of being unable to access the Phone Information menu. Nothing happens after typing *#*#4636#*#* on the dialpad.
EDIT: Turned out I set the default dialer to something else (Emerald Dialer) and the system would refuse to send secret code from non-default dialer for security reasons. However, it appears third party dialers may not be able to handle such codes correctly as when I typed the code on Emerald Dialer, it crashed. I set the system default dealer back to the stock one and now I could enter the Phone Information menu.
However, I'm yet to figure out what might have caused VoLTE to get stuck when hanging up...

I just applied this fix on Havoc OS, and it works! However after about 2 minutes reliably, my phone changes to "No Service, Emergency Calls Only" mode. Verizon totally disappears. It appears IPv4 still passes the ping test, however IPv6 fails(2). I'm not sure how to fix this problem

I could never get Verizon to work at all on any Gsi. Have you gotten it to work on 9.0 Gsi roms?
I'm running Havoc (latest Pie version)
For the first 2-3 minutes after boot, I see 'Verizon 4G' as my carrier info. After that, the signal in the status bar changes to have a little x on it, and all branding disappears. It says No Service and Emergency Calls Only.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong

You can see if the Tmobile DIGITS app will work on your phone. I think it basically forces WiFi calling. I'm using an Android 10 ROM and DIGITS circumvents the no-texting on 3G issue. You can also set up RCS on Messages if you change your data to 3G, reboot the phone and wait for it to finish setting up. That doesn't exactly fix the SMS issues, but it at least is a band-aid solution, combined with DIGITS will effectively solve SMS issues altogether. And again, I am not sure, but I suspect that DIGITS is WiFi calling the app, but I could be very wrong on that. You can also force WiFi calling using adb, though I don't know if that actually works yet since I have not received or placed calls since manually setting it to on. Will report back.
EDIT: Forcing WiFi calling in ADB seems to have turned it on for good. I have the WiFi calling symbol even though I have no option in Settings.

Anyone else having issues with MMS on T-Mobile (international version)?

I ordered my OP8P directly from OnePlus, but my MMS doesn't seem to be working. Anyone else had the issue?
I actually got a message that the settings were not correct, and that the correct ones were being sent to my phone (had never seen that before). I looked at the APN info, and it seems to be correct... based on memory.
I'm on T-MOBILE also and received the same message. The phone had an update so I installed and rebooted the phone. All call, text, MMS, data worked like it's supposed to. Try rebooting?

I've tried rebooting. Things are a lot better, but I still have some issues with calling out (can't remember the message... will try and get a screenshot next time). If I immediately try again, the call will go out.
I'm also not seeing any wifi calling. The feature is enabled, but it doesn't seem to be working... even on the "wifi calling preferred" setting.
Just wanted to post an update.... still having issues. MMS pretty much never works with wifi on. For this reason, my wifi is off pretty much all day. It never fails that as soon as I turn it on, a picture or group message comes in.
Also, this does not affect SMS or RCS messages, which appear to come in over data somehow.... just MMS.
Need a fix bad.
I'm having the same issues with T-Mobile. I'm leaving wifi off in the meantime. Hope there is a fix soon.
That was supposedly fixed with the last update. What software version are you on?

Hi, not sure if it would make a difference but I'm using Google messages with the chat features enabled. I never noticed anything unusual though but I live in Louisiana. Sorry to hear that. I know there is an option for mobile and wifi (dual-channel network optimization) that I haven't been using. Anyway I hope this clears up for y'all.
I'm on 10.5.6. I just went to t mobile and got a new sim card.. It didn't resolve the issue.

I used to use the Textra app, but really prefer Google Messages for it's web app. I am on the PC all day, so it's aggravating to have to pick up the phone all the time. I've tried MS Your Phone, but it's not as easy to use, or as reliable.
I created a thread with a similar (but opposite) issue to what you're experiencing. A friend of mine with an international 8 Pro on TMO is having the exact issue you are.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-8-pro/help/receive-mms-wifi-calling-tmobile-t4088673
Didn't get any help from that but you can try the APN trick for a temporary fix until it's patched for real. I also created a thread on Reddit for this and I think I found the solution. I use Textra, but that alone didn't help. Someone on Reddit told me to disable the stock messaging app, as well as revoke it's permissions to everything. Since doing that I'm no longer having issues. It's only been about a day so we'll see how it goes from here.
Hope I could help!

Duplicating the APN worked (of course, I did the whole thing then swiped back, thinking it would save, grr). I'm guessing it won't last long. It's just as easy to disable wifi for it to send... so weird that you're having the opposite problem.
**EDIT**
Nevermind... it didn't work. I was able to send out with wifi on (which I couldn't do before), but my wife's test message wouldn't download until I disabled wifi.
I had frozen the stock messaging app on day one, with tibu. I thawed it, revoked the permissions, and disabled it via settings this time. No luck "Not sent. Tap to try again".
Anyone find a fix for it yet? I thought 10.5.8 would help but I still can't receive or send MMS on WiFi.

Granted, I haven't done any extended testing yet, but I can send/receive MMS now with wifi connected. I upgraded about 4 hours ago, and this is probably the longest I've ever had wifi on.
Now that you've posted this, I'm skeptical it will last, though.
**EDIT**
Yep. MMS is still broken when on wifi. Geez....

The latest update seems to have fixed it for me. I was also having issues receiving calls. Callers would get a busy signal. The update fixed that as well. Maybe try taking your SIM out, reboot, then put it back in and reboot.
That didn't work. I'm finally getting notifications from my sports app after the 10.5.8 update. Just have to fix the wifi now.
Wifi still dies on me, but not with the ! on the icon. Just no traffic. I had to toggle it. But nowhere near as much as it used to. The MMS issue is the only reason I don't leave wifi on. I was really hoping it was fixed.
Same issue here even with most recent updates. MMS will work 1/10 times over wifi (sending & receiving) but not the other 9 times.
Since the update I've also noticed wifi issues - they may have been there before but didn't notice. Wifi seems to hang, I sometimes see a "!" next to the wifi symbol. In many cases I turn WiFi off and the connectivity issue in whichever app is resolved.
So at this point on TMobile there is no reason to keep wifi on, which is unfortunate because with their "5G" I actually get half the speeds of LTE. ?

Pretty much everything you said. I'm really upset and disappointed. I'm actually considering returning the phone and going back to the OP7P. Not even sure what the return policy with them is...

Calls dropping, data dropping, trouble sending/receiving MMS

I have the OnePlus 7T Pro Mclaren 5G, on tmobile with the latest OTA firmware 10.0.40.HD61CB. It drops my calls, sometimes won't even allow me to make calls, sometimes data does not work. When connected to wifi wifi calling and texting works. I called OnePlus, and they blame tmobile. I contacted tmobile and they don't seem to know anything or care. I have 2 automatically generated bug reports. My phone alerted me there's a bug and it generated a bug report. I am not sure if these are related to the problem. But I would appreciate help, I do not know how to interpret these reports.
I have rebooted, cleared cache, reset network settings. Tried adding an APN from the tmobile support page. turned 5g on and off. Nothing made a difference.

I'm running into the same issues you're having. I thought it was my phone only, so you'tr not alone in this. I did noticed that the issue started after the Oct. security patch 10.0.40HD61CB, my sms would sometime come in late or gets stuck on data or wi-fi , my call would suddenly drop or doesn't even connect at times. I'm on the same boat friend, until our voice is heard through Tmobile with enough complaint and hopefully they can fix this bug. Hopefully somebody have already figured out the solution and maybe shed some light.
If you run lineage or the other aosp rom the problem goes away. I was having the same issues as well. Missing calls unable to send texts or receive them sometimes.

Sent from my OnePlus7TProNR using XDA Labs
dont call tmobile, always use twitter @ tmobile help center.

This. I was getting super frustrated by not being able to use my phone as an actual phone. I have Ting Mobile which uses TMo, and I was having the same issues. I was on the Stock Rom and ever since switching to the Illusion Rom, I haven't experienced those issues anymore. It sucks that we have to do that. Imagine being non-technical and oblivious. I'd be so pissed after buying this phone. I think this is a OnePlus issue and not a carrier issue.
