Bounty for TWRP support - HTC U11 Guides, News, & Discussion

I've been talking with @Captain_Throwback (TWRP supporter for the HTC 10 & many many more devices) about supporting TWRP for the U11. Unfortunately it sounds like he doesn't have the ability to upgrade at this time. So my thought is to create a bounty to help him out He has already begun work on the U11 TWRP but needs the device in hand to make it fully functioning.
If you would like to help contribute, either comment with your pledge or send him a donation now!
DONATE
You can also donate by sending straight from PayPal (friends & family) w/ no fees to Captain_Throwback, send to [email protected] the above link will deduct a fee
I'll start by committing $25 to the fund!

I wanted to stop in and say thanks to everyone for their support. Thanks to @OMJ for opening the thread and thanks to everyone that has donated.
I've never been one to ask for handouts, and everything I've done for the community I've done because I enjoy it and never to get anything back. So to see this response is really touching. I'll make sure the funds are used toward a U11 and if I'm able to get one I'll make sure I add official support for it to TWRP and maintain the device for as long as it's not bricked (it happens, lol).
Thanks again, and if you happen to already have the device, a semi-working TWRP was posted by someone in another thread in this section. My thoughts on that are here.

CPT_Throwback,
We take it for granted that these things are available to us. Little do folks realize the work that goes behind the scenes.
I for one, will support you guys and am glad OMJ posted it here.
Thank you Sir, you have a wonderful Memorial day.

@Captain_Throwback you're been around and supported a lot of HTC devices around to enable us modding enthusiasts to flash a working TWRP, all done on your own expenses. Who, if bot you, would be allowed to ask for a little compensation an help when needed.
I've always been glad to be able to use a TWRP maintained by you, and always will. Hope this bounty can make it possible for all of us. Thanks for everything done to the community so far, and all that's hopefully coming.
And a special thanks to @OMJ for opening this thread. Great and needed idea.
All the best to you two.

Hello, the provided link allows only $ payments, how could I contribute in € ?

I got my black U11 3 days ago in Taiwan, but unfortunately the screen had a little defect so I had to return it back for a new one. However I'm not in a hurry, because I'm still waiting for TWRP on it! Thanks @Captain_Throwback for you contribution on my HTC 10, and I'm looking forward to see your work on U11! [CLOSED] G2 Root Bounty

Root bounties have become increasingly popular and seem like a great way to draw specialized attention to our cause.
I'm considering starting a root bounty for the G2 (I'd toss in a few bucks myself to kick it off).
Thoughts? If enough people +1 this (I don't need you to pledge dollar amounts, but don't +1 if you wouldn't definitely donate at least $1) I'll make a paypal account that people can drop cash into.
UPDATE
I closed the paypal account as it had received $0 since my initial $5 deposit. Kickstarter declined our request for a new project. Consider this effort dead.
+$20 for root
Match $20!
However, I'm hoping I can get some direction on rooting via OSX. All the root directions seem to be for windows only.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I'll pledge $50
I want root as much as anyone but don't you think the day after the official release is a little soon to be offering a bounty? Again, I don't object, I'm just a fan of letting the natural process take place
I can pitch in 20.
I hope that everyone who makes a pledge actually follows through...

Agreed; pledges mean little. Due to the quick and positive responses, I'm creating the paypal account now. I understand the concern people may have that I'll run off with the dough.
The only relevant resume items I have that may quell this fear are:
I'm a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer. I didn't go volunteer in the 3rd world for 2.5 years to get rich.
I'm a long-time contributor to the FreeBSD project; my name is listed on the contributor page.

I can work on that for you. I triple boot my macbook pro, windoze 7, osx, and ubuntu 10.10, I have adb in all three and use em to root phones at work for my coworkers. They offer money but I say "no, I can't accept $, I'm just one techie helping another" then they feel bad and buy me lunch! Works everytime! Lol

I think this is premature...... odds are the same methods will work on the G2 as well.
Give them some time to actually get the phone... lol

I recommend we use something like kickstarter dot com
Basically the pledges only go through if the project meets its goal, if it doesnt nobody gets charged anything.
Expect some from me later today or tomorrow.
I hope others donate as motivation for more people to jump on.

THREAD UPDATES:( + thread rules)
------smaller amounts by many people are more preferred OVER larger amounts by fewer people. called DIVISION OF LABOUR. Come on guys, go for atleast smaller amounts. let us share the work.
------Some of us might be thinking like "how long do we donate like this". The answer to that question should be given by unrevoked itself. I personally don't have any contact info of them. hope they have seen us here. i know that every donor makes contribution, thinking that the total amount will get a new wildfire to unrevoked. It will be nice if they respond.
So, let us all expect that unrevoked team makes some official TWITTER announcements regularly or even after getting a wildfire. they just need to respond about the status of wildfire.
------Let us see, if this process works, we can think a seperate donation account. Its not fair to think of it now.
R1------Please read the entire thread carefully. Understand the purpose of the thread. Don't get confused. Watch out, i have added the "donation page link" of unrevoked at the top.
R2------please post ur feedbacks and comments guys. And let me know what do u think.
R3------Donate to unrevoked with a willing heart. Donations will never be mandatory.
just see this link what it says in the FAQs:
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/unrevoked3
PHP:
QUESTION: I found this software useful, and I would like to donate to the team!
ANSWER: Thank you for your support. At this time, the team behind unrevoked3 does not accept donations; but we highly encourage our users to donate to the Electronic Frontier Foundation. The EFF performs the important role of standing up for our digital liberties, including the liberties to reverse-engineer devices that we own. If you are able, please consider making a contribution to them so that they can continue to perform this valuable service.

The problem is that none of us actually own a Wildfire right now (and most of us have been busy-ish with school and/or work, and haven't hard a chance to do much unrevoked stuff in months).
Oh, and for those of you interested, we released source for an exploit in 2.2: https://github.com/unrevoked/zysploit (currently used in 3.)

I'll donate $10 via paypal no problem! ...... hopefully we get enough people!
It should be clear though! Will it be a reward open to all? not to be disrespectfull but are unrEVOked the only people who can do this?
I posted before, we can donate a phone with this money and the risk is the phone is bricked and we are back to the start, no phone to test and no money.
Just my 2 cents ..... but this is a good idea which I hope moves in the right direction.
The guys at unrEVOked have done a great job so far and I'm sure they will do their best to find a solution for wildfire users....and yes there is always the risk of the phone getting bricked.

we cant expect unrevoked to promise us. firstly we should remember that they are giving the software for us freely. they are just relying on the donations, which are also not mandatory.
yes they kept quiet all these months and it the mistake made by them. atlast few days back they responded that they dont have wildfire to experiment with. this makes us to think about the donations. presently they are responding to wildfire requests and it is a good sign. we can expect them to root wildfire in the coming near days.
if u see their IRC CLIENT webpage, there is something written on the top, which is
DONOT ASK FOR BUZZ ROOT.
which means that they knew the demand of wildfire root
yesterday they have given this on twitter,
We're always keeping an eye out for ways to root the new Wildfire devices. No news yet - we'll post here when we have info.
new wildfires in the sense wildfire with froyo hboot 1.01 (and not the wildfire s). who expects them to root WILDFIRE S (official gingerbread) in a present situation like now which is not even released till now.
so unrevoked are looking for each and every oppurtunity to root wildfire. they knew the demand of wildfire root. check out their facebook page for the wildfire requests made to them.
LINK TO THEIR IRC CLIENT:
go to the following link and see FAQs / where can i get support
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/unrevoked3
PHP:
QUESTION:Where can I get support?
ANSWER:As an experiment, we'd like to redirect users to our IRC channel for support. If you have an IRC client already, connect to irc.freenode.net, channel #unrevokedtest – if you don't, then that's OK; you can use Freenode's web IRC client. We'd love to hear from you! Also, the wonderful folks from #unrevokedtest have written up an excellent wiki chock full of guides and help for EVO users – well worth a visit.
the direct link will be: http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=unrevokedtest
THEY WILL SOON ROOT WILDFIRE. LETUS BE LITTLE PATIENT AND CONTRIBUTE TO THEM.

i have got no mail adress of them. PROGRAMMERS like unrevoked wont just distribute their mail adresses. i doubt if u search the net for a complete day, even then u may not find it.
u cannot get their mail adress unless u know someone in their team, or someone in common to u both.
we need not ask them whether they are willing to root wildfire or not. we just need to check out their twitter, facebook etc profiles regularly.
they already updated their status on wildfire. they are willing to work on it.
remember wildfire is in the list of supported devices by unrevoked.
they will do that once they get a wildfire. if once they have got it, i hope then only it will be a matter of few days, and not weeks and months. they will make use of every oppurtunity for wildfire root.

thanks for ur feedback.
i know many people are fearing about the phone getting bricked.
yes, suppose if we have made up the money, donated them, they purchased a new wildfire to experiment. then bricked. if this happens, its really unfortunate. but i believe that they will work more carefully as they know the present situation. if the phone gets bricked our individual contributions wont go useless. but we need to wait for longer time. As they can return the phone to service center with some expenses.
and let us all think positively in this matter. we have waited for over 4 months and there is no hope for us except unrevoked. so think positively instead of waiting silently for someone to root the phone. lets hope it will be done

hope im very clear now. im clear even before. and now, i even added the donation link of unrevoked to the thread. SO I HOPE THIS CONFUSION WILL NOT REPEAT AGAIN.
I suggest u to read the entire thread again.

Interested in Android 5.0/Official CM? Support & Donations needed- P600 Model

17 November 2014: Goal has been reached and tablet is now in the hands of RaymanFX. Still feel free to support and donate to help him continue to prepare for his upcoming works. You can see his progress at github.com/raymanfx and
http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/q/status:open+exynos,n,z
Under Christopher Hesse
Hello everyone,
I am creating this thread on behalf of @RaymanFX , a recognized developer who needs a device to develop for us.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=3463426
He is looking to develop for the P600, WiFi only model and is looking to make AOSP/CM roms and kernels for us.
Here is a previous thread of his: http://forum.xda-developers.com/find-7/orig-development/rom-teameos-revival-nightlies-t2826587
And here is a list of previous threads: http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=319162976
Quote by RaymanFX:
most of you probably don't know me since I did not develop for Samsung devices for quite some time now.
I would be interested in aiding the Exynos 5420 development scene (in particular on the Galaxy Note 10.1) and prepare a custom Android distribution for it (Team EOS 5.0 - Lollipop).
I can get all the required drivers and binaries I need for development, since most of it is open source luckily.
And the Nexus 10 (manta) can still be used as reference for many things.
All I need is a development device to debug on.
It is particularly important that this is the Galaxy Note 10.1 EXYNOS (WiFi-only variant), and not the LTE (Qualcomm) variant.
I created this thread to ask whether someone has a spare device lying around, maybe because of the little development on Exynos 5 devices, or if people would be willing to donate a device (I'm a university student and unfortunately can not afford the full price for a new device. I'm willing to dive into the Exynos development scene and spend time on this device though, including extensive debugging).
Thank you two for your reasonable thoughts.
I think the main reason why the previous developers stopped developing for this device rather quickly is the Exynos chip.
The main difference between me and anyone else is (or so I believe) the fact that I am especially interested in developing for the Exynos 5420 chip and the drivers for it (mainly from the Insignal forum source).
As far as bricked devices, I can say I had a Samsung device before, and as long as the bootloader is unlockable and access to ODIN (The firmware flashing tool) is granted, a hard brick is rather hard to achieve. I see little risk here, and I assume my previous development experience will prevent me from making major mistakes in that regard.
A new device would cost me approximately 350€, so if we could collect about 300$ with donations (which would equal something like 270€), I'd pay the remaining costs.
People are of course free to check my development history and/or references first and see if they think I would benefit the aosp development scene for this device.
The ROM I mentioned (Team EOS 5.0 lollipop) is essentially AOSP 5.0 with selected features that we code ourselves, like EOS Weather, or the NX gesture interface.
If people however see the need for an official CM maintainer, I'd be happy to become this as well, all I need is a device to debug and develop on, I'd be willing to spend the time to officially maintain this device.
Other developers and/or contributors should also expect support from me in areas of kernel development or AOSP custom ROM development. I believe in 'sharing is caring', so all my knowledge and achievements on this device shall benefit the community.
If some of you could maybe contact the people who raised donations before, I'd be thankful and gratious for the support. All donations will be listed here and the whole process shall be as transparent as possible.

$20 is perfect, any donations are helpful
Yes PayPal. If you look at his profile there's a link there. I'll add your name to the list :good:
Alright, I've just donated 20€ (which equals ~25$ if I'm not mistaken). It would be great, if @RaymanFX confirmed the transaction (I've refered to XDA in the transaction note, but if you need the transaction ID, write me a PN)
PS: I know I said I'd donate 20$, but I figured since he's german, I could just as well donate 20€ instead :highfive:
And I also know that you usually don't donate until enough pledges have been made, but I have faith that we will make it. And if we don't, well, consider it a donation for the effort, lol
Edit: Transaction ID # 89F56830A9644882H
$365 on eBay (refurbished)

thanks for confirming
Btw since you're german, THIS might be an interesting offer (although I'm not sure about the warranty)
265€ = ~330$ (free shipping within germany)
I'll donate 20€ at the end of the month!
You can add me on the list
Is there anyway to donate directly from debit card? Paypal has problems with my card and renders the service unusable.

It depends. If you live in Germany it will obviously be easier. If not, it depends from country to country. What country are you in?
Hi there,
nice to see that at least one person is not scared away by the exynos cpu
You can count me in for 15€
I have a question though:
How is this handled? Are we donating all at once when enough people have expressed their will to donate?
Or should I already donate so that you can be sure that I'm serious?

The donating is a personal thing. I worded things in the op to be safe. It's just easier if people pledge, say they are gonna donate, and then once the amount has been reached people can actually donate.
Say for example, there are no pledges and we raise 200 dollars that people have already donated in a few weeks and then people lose interest and not a lot of donations come in anymore. I don't want people to be angry if the dev doesn't end up getting the tablet. :good:
Better to pledge but if you want to donate right now that's fine. Either way i'll add you to the list
Could you in the title add that this is for the exynos variant. It mislead me into thinking this was for the snapdragon until I read a little.
Ok I'm in for $20. Maybe a little more if we get close! Awesome guys.
In for $30 ?

Hey everyone,
just letting you know I was donated another 10€ yesterday, so we're at over 200$ now!
That's more than 2/3 of our goal, so there's only 100$ left.
Keep on going, we're almost there now.
Thanks to the community for having so much faith in me and enabling development for this device.

Sprint device tree bounty

Hello.... I'm starting this thread to set up a bounty for a working device tree.. For the sprint note 4..I am lacking in time to create one myself but have all the experience and ability to use it... So figured I'd offer a bounty to anyone willing to create us a working device tree to use to build Roms from source.... What I'm wanting is a tree that I can build cm and aosp based Roms from.... I'm not asking for Roms I'm asking for a tree that works that I can use to build the Roms myself as well as others.....
If interested in chipping in please list the amount and I'll add your name to the list..... Please Only people who are actually going to donate when/if the time comes ..
Thanks
Bounty:
spleef : $75
Herk718 : $20
Total: $95
@Herk718 $20
I understand the intention here, but I've always found that bounties immediately move work into closed repos, discourages collaboration, and raises questions about who gets the $ if for example, someone gets it 99% there but someone else jumps in for the last step. Will the bounty be split among all collaborators? Will you award the authors of any device repo you fork from? (It's turtles all the way down)
If you want development in the open and people helping each other to get your goal, consider not having a bounty as it's almost never the primary motivator for this kind of work... And often works against what you want. I can tell you personally... My experience with the nook tablet and bounties from a company that wanted to sell the port was pathetic. People were constantly hitting me up on irc and in PM for help, and stealing each others work, and making tiny changes to claim the bounty. Go back and read the forums for acclaim...
Or, look up what happened with the HP Touchpad, which is even more egregious... That fiasco made it to the blogosphere... But the code was flat out stolen and the irc logs pretty jaw dropping.
This is a MUCH smaller project, but still...

@fattire
I do understand where you are coming from...these bounties most always end badly where someone does exactly as you described but let me try to ease some of your doubts....
What I'm looking for is for a person or team to step forward... Then after a discussion with them I'll add their name to the op as being the person doing the task.... Now no matter who else jumps in or steals code the money will only go to the person or team that I've talked with and is listed in the op..... So far as money split.... I would... during our discussion prior to having someone accept the task... And listing them as accepting the project talk this over and have it all mapped out as who gets what. What I'm expecting... What they're expecting.. The whole nines... Now these type of situations have a tendency of folks saying I'll donate then don't... If that were to be the case I'll donate the full amount myself... To address the closed repo.... I have a github account and have had one for years as well as being an XDA member for ages.... With a very good reputation.... My account on github is open and always will be... The idea here is to have a source for the public not just me...I have no intention on making anything private or closed source...... My only intentions are too get a device tree that we can use to build cm and aosp based roms from source... The idea of the bounty is solely to draw attention and offer a incentive to someone who is interested, willing, and able to provide us with the tree... I hope I've cleared up at least a little of your worries/doubts....And to be perfectly honest ...I hope that you and slayher accept the task... If you need to further discuss anything please feel free to contact me...I have several ways of doing so listed in my profile but I'll go ahead and list my hangouts info... [email protected]

CM development started - MONEY COLLECTION TO BUY TESTING DEVICE

Dear community,
recently we've spoken to Codeworkx, recognized senior developer, and he agreed to try to build CM for Honor 6. I think it's a GREAT NEWS!
The only problem is that he does not have handset for the testing, which is a must!
So, I am asking all of you interested in CM for Honor 6, and I have seen there are many of us, to collect the money, so Codeworkx can buy a handset for the purpose of the testing.
The easiest way is to send him your donations via his paypal account, you can see details under his profile.
As soon as he collects enough money he would let us know.
Yeah, it is based on trust guys. Please do not forget he does it in his spare time, not asking any reward for that...
@codeworkx, is that fine with u?

What if the money we donate doesn't match the price of the handset?
Will the money be returned to us or @codeworkx will keep them for other project or for himself (no offence codeworkx ) or he will constribute money too, in order to buy the device? In my singature there is a list of "safe" shops to buy from and a comparison of the for the H60-L02 version. These are some logical questions and I have no intention to insult anyone.

@RomanosN you're right.
I'd like to start a fundraising campaign but now the better way should be to continue to donate by PayPal.
Only 2 recommendations:
- please write how much you donate (even if 1$) in order to improve donations and make public how much we have collected. We can also post a countdown
- don't forget we can also support other developers' work (like spanorg's one), or find new devs who likes to develop for h6.
OK?

If that helps in any way, I'm trying to sell mine (good as new) for €250. It may help as it's cheaper than a brand new unit, and I don't need it since I have another phone anyway.
Just adding some info: its bootloader is already unlocked, CWM recovery installed and rooted too.
