MI Note 2 won't notify me (Snapchat, Outlook in particular) - Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Questions & Answers

My MI Note 2 has since I bought it in march been behaving kinda strange. Sometimes it works as you'd excpect, but unfortunately most of the time it doesn't notify me when it should.
I'm coming from a Nexus 6P which gives me notifications in a matter of hundreds whenever I get a new mail, facebook-notification or snapchat. The Note 2 sometimes give me old facebook-notifications, sometimes snaps, and occationally email-notifications. I've noticed the last weeks that if I reboot my phone, it has a tendency to update me more often, i.e. notifying like 30% of the snapchats I get, but then it just get worse over time.
I've manually disabled MIUIs restriction on background activity for Snapchat, Outlook and Android Wear (which by the way also doesn't keep connected to my watch), but this doesn't seem to help. I've granted the apps access to everything they want, but this doesn't help either.
Any ideas what's wrong?
Running stock, original, stable MIUI 8.2.6.0 - newest update available OTA.
Hope you have suggestions/solutions!

It's particular to MIUI for notification (gor some problem with Snpachat or Aquamail)
You have to do this:
Go to Security app -> Battery Saver -> Choose the app (Snapchat or Outlook) and choose No Restriction.
Reboot and test normally it's good

You got this for helping you:

I did all those things but my work email application [MaaS 360 ] doesn't send notifications :'(.

email notification not working reliably

Hi there.
I have an X10a from Rogers, 2.1(official upgrade), rooted and ever since running the 2.1 update my email notification has been inconsistant at best. With the stock email program it worked sporadically. Sometimes it doesn't even sync... I open the app, load new messages and they appear. Sometimes it makes a sound and puts the indicator in the status bar but no flashing led and sometimes everything works.
I tried K9 and that seemed to work but no led, so I loaded Maildroid and everything was fine for a while but now even that is sporadic.
I currently have my stock email notifications disabled, gmail sync enabled, maildroid sync enabled, wake up ever 15 mins in sleep to check email and still it only works sometimes.
I would prefer just using the stock email client as it seemed nicer on battery useage. Is there a way to uninstall it and reinstall it easily? I almost tried it with Titanium backup but the warning that i might need to reflash scared me off doing it.
Any thoughts?
Same thing i noticed with mine , Email is really bad after the update , can know for sure when i get a new Email
using the gmail app and no problems at all
i have 3 other email accounts all forwarded to my gmail
This is two forums and no one has been able to suggest anything to fix it. I think i'll just go back to the stock email client and live with it... checking manually whenever I remember.
This would be my one major complaint about the 2.1 upgrade...aside from it I'm pleased with the rest.
I use shangmail.it works great.

I can try it. Does it light up the LED with the notification?
Re: my issue, i've noticed that it definitely seems that it's the syncing that's not happening moreso than the notification. I can send an email and until I open my client and load more messages, it won't appear where in the past it would pull down the email, notify me and then when I checked it was already there.
Okay...so I reflashed 2.1 on the phone last night. Immediately after the flash everthing was working fine. Then I rooted, installed Titanium backup and started to restore my apps and data... one at a time instead of the batch. At some point it stopped working again even though I didn't install 100% of the things I had on before.
Then briefly I uninstalled Super Security Standard and it started working again...but that didn't last.
I suppose it must be something i've installed, but it's really frustrating that the behavior isn't consistant. Aside from reflashing and then testing after restoring each app, I don't know what I can do.
It's definitely a syncing issue, not a notification issue. Installed a couple of free gmail notifiers and they don't work because the emails aren't sync'd until i go into the email client and manually load new mail.
What could be blocking the gmail sync?
Okay..some more searching has revealed a workaround. I cleared the cache for Gmail app and Gmail storage, rebooted and added the power control widget and cycled the sync button.
Now I can get email notifications when I cycle the sync...but only then. In the thread I found doing this once seemed to 'unstick' the sync, but that's not happening with me.
What sorts of things can 'hang' the sync? I'm still guessing some apps i've installed...

[Q] Can't get a decent battery life (lollipop) - Process "App Android Core"

Hi all, can you help me? I have just bought this device after a Note 3 and a Xperia Z2 and I am having problems with my battery life, possibly due to a process called "App Android Core".
The problem
Simply I can get a decent battery life... I can't get nothing more that 2-2,5 hours SOT. I know that is not normal. I think that the problem is a process that is called "App Android Core" . It is always in the first two places in battery consumption with as many time of process usage as Android System. In other Note 4 this process does not even appear in the statistics!
I have seen that this process is responsible for "logs provider, address book, user dictionary and contacts memory". I have thought that these may be related to Samsung syncs and I disabled it (though I couldn't delete Samsung account).
My data
I updated to official lollipop (ITV BOC5) the first day. Phone not rooted, I use Greenify.
2 gmail accounts, one hotmail with gmail app, one exchange with samsung email, one exchange with outlook; whatsapp, 2 twitter, instagram, facebook and skype.
I have Android wear with some apps for my Sony SW3.
What I have already done
I removed wifi network scan, I disabled the pen detection, put one of the exchange accounts in manual, brightness is on automatic 4.
Any suggestions?
I used to have issues wither User Daemon. Can you check your GPS devices battery usage? It's under "location" in the settings. I used to get 15 hours with light light light use. And now, since I disabled that widget and stopped that process (no root required) I get 2 days with my light usage or 4-6 hours of SoT in 1 day.

hi
first off ,
if phone is not rooted then it can be quite fustrating to pinpoint culprits !..........,as you don't have access to run the correct battery apps to id wakelocks etc ( eg BetterBatterystats ..)
( i have a N910F Snap ,rooted and currently on....... BOC5 (LOLLIPOP ) My battery standby and usage is acceptable (no problems ) No " unnecessary "wakelocks or battery drainers.
From what i noticed in your list of apps above and what i read on XDA forums , i have seen members complaining about Facebook etc ....been a battery drainer ? Is you location enabled ? Your syncing/push of emails ? i am also sure that apps like Skype etc will have effect on your battery .Having your data enabled , most of the time ...?
good luck
Hi, my biggest problem is related to that process. I have tried to format and reinstall and for half a day that process has disappeared. Now it is back again, it is rekated to the address book and maybe to some accounts synced with the address book. I have noticed it has come back after I have selected "personal view" into the address book. Now I have removed this view and syncing of linkedin and facebook

Delayed push notifications

Hi all,
Has anyone else noticed a significant delay with push notifications (namely with gmail)?
I've got my old iPhone and the Nexus 6P side by side, and at best the push notifications come in 10 seconds later than the iPhone (sometimes it can take up to 10 minutes). I've tried the push notification fix as suggested for other phones, but got no love there.
Any suggestions?

I just realized gmail only does push.
I just tested it on my Nexus 6p and it pushed a few seconds after the email was sent. At first however I had to manually refresh for the first test email, then the second test email pushed to the device.
I tested by sending a email from a icloud account on my macbook and sending to my gmail account on my phone.

It's almost as though there's some power saving feature going on once you lock the screen (this is where the delay happens, when locked).

Same here, seems strange that it's taking so long then...
Also, when deleting an email from the notification, it just keeps popping back up (i.e. not deleting). There's obviously some strange sync issue going on with gmail and exchange
I've had the same problem and haven't found a solution either. Glad to see that I'm not the only one! I posted on Reddit, but it didn't get much play. https://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus6P/comments/3seyj6/delayed_gmail_syncnotifications/
To try and fix the issue, I've (in no particular order):
Removed my Google account and readded
Gone through Gmail settings to make sure that notifications are on, sync is active, managed labels
Gone through the Google account to make sure that Gmail sync is on
Restarted
Uninstalled updates to Gmail from the Play Store
Reinstalled updates to Gmail from the Play Store
Force Stopped Gmail
Cleared data from Gmail
Cleared cache from Gmail
Removed it from optimized apps
Changed my password on computer, then waited for phone to ask to reinput
I'm on a 64 GB Aluminum, unlocked, MDB08M. I do not have my SIM card yet (only Wi-Fi). Perhaps that's the issue?
I'm getting to the point where I'm going to factory reset, but I was really hoping I wouldn't have to, and I'm not optimistic it would help.

Yeah I've done the factory reset already and can confirm it does nothing. I'm beginning to think its the Gmail app, as the rest of my push notifications are faster or the same speed as iOS. Really crap by the Gmail devs if that is the case.
Any decent replacement email apps out there? The Samsung email app was quicker, but not sure if we can get that without rooting and flashing an apk (and even then not sure if it requires touchwiz to function).
With my 6P Hotspoting to tablet and pc email arrives on 6P a minute or 2 after them.
I don't know if this is the same or not. I have this issue with both the Yahoo mail app and the Outlook app. My gmail notifications seem to be showing up reliably, but I never get any Outlook notifications, and Yahoo's are sporadic--one our of every three or four. When I open either app, it then seems to go fetch the incoming emails. On my previous phone, when I open the app, they're already there. I don't believe I have anything set differently in the apps. I would love to figure this out.
So, I did a factory reset and installed nothing but Outlook and Yahoo mail. Then I sent two notes to my Outlook, Yahoo, and Gmail addresses, and all three of each note arrived almost simultaneously. I guess, now, I'll start re-installing essential apps and testing.
Was looking around and saw someone posted on the official Nexus forums; if anyone here is still having the issue, please head over and +1/reply so Google can escalate the fix.
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/Ayd_1TOemSE
I'm having the same issue and I've also noticed that IMs on Hangouts are ridiculously slow. You would think that Google would make sure that at least their own apps worked smoothly on their flagship device.
I think I may have solved my sync issues. In the WiFi advanced settings, I switched the WiFi frequency band from Auto to 2.4Ghz. Ever since I did that I've received notifications on my Nexus 6P just as quickly as I do on other devices.
Wow, glad I saw this thread. I've been noticing gmail is slow lately. I thought it might have been my ROM/Kernel combo. I use Inbox and it was fine up until lately. Guess it's a bug for Google to fix. I even spent time last night reflashing stock and starting fresh out of box state.
This is happening to me too..happens on gmail and as well as Google opinion rewards. It's been happening for a little over a week now...hopefully will be fixed soon..
Is it happening to everybody or just a select lucky few?

Lots of users having this issue
http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...syncing-issues-in-gmail-inbox-and-other-apps/
I see that lot of people are only discussing about Gmail and other mailing or hangout apps.
I on the other hand am seeing overall notification push delay across all the apps including Whatsapp, Gmail, Facebook etc. I am unrooted and no changes made whatsoever to my android marshmallow. It is also on latest OTA build.
I receive all notifications as soon as I unlock the device, but if my device is lying on a table (even when not in doze mode which means lying for less than 30 minutes) I still don't receive any notification. As soon as I unlock and turn on screen it seems like data connectivity resumed and all notifications starts to flow within 5-10 seconds without even opening those apps to refresh.
I also have not modified any other notification setting and I even tried to keep whatsapp to priority mode + no battery optimization, still Whatsapp is having hard time receiving notification if screen is turned off for more than 5 minutes..
If you are experiencing this kind of an issue and have successfully resolved it, kindly help me.
I've lost email notifications but I have read that Google know about the problem,

Android MS Outlook notifications stopped showing up on Wear.

I've been using Outlook on my Galaxy S5 for a while now and was getting email notification on my watch (Moto 360 2nd gen) without difficult. Then I just stopped getting email notifications. I appear to still be getting calendar notifications, but not email.
I did two things around the time when the notifications stopped:
1.) Installed an app on my phone create extra vibrations on the watch when notifications were received (Feel the Wear).
2.) Setup the default sammy calendar to sync with my work's Exchange calendar so I could get calendar info in WatchMaker.
To trouble shoot I've tried:
a.) Uninstalling the app listed above and removing the calendar sync setup.
b.) Uninstalling and re-installing MS Outlook
c.) Verifying that Outlook is not listed as a block/ignore app in Android Wear
d.) Forgetting and reconnecting my watch
e.) Verified that I'm getting outlook notifications properly on my phone.
f.) Searching google and xda... couldn't find anything, but I'll admit I didn't do a super huge search here in xda.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm working around this right now by using eNotify, but I hate to use additional programs to do something that I should be able to do without them.
I have the same issue. About 2 days ago Outlook stopped sending notifications to my watch (LG Watch Urbane). I still get them on my phone, but they do not get sent to the watch.
I do not have Feel the Wear and I have not made any recent changes to how my phone syncs anything. I have also tried disconnecting and reconnecting everything and confirming that Outlook is not on the notification block list. I updated the Outlook app from the Play Store today, but still no joy.

I've tried even doing a factory reset on the watch, and this has only led to bigger problems. Now ALL notifications are being super temperamental for me.
Same problem here. I'm glad to see someone else is experiencing it. I've found nothing helpful on google about it.
This link here:
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/android-wear/KV62Rs3fZHs;context-place=topicsearchin/android-wear/notifications$20stopped
is saying that it's a Microsoft issue. Can't verify that info, but it does seem consistent with the fact that we all seem to have noticed it stopped right around the same time and it's only MS Outlook that did it.
Same thing here on my Huawei Watch. My workaround was to restart notifications from the stock email app, so at least I won't miss anything. If it's fixed and I start getting double notifications I'll turn them off on the stock app again.

Reviving a bit of an old thread here, but I finally got around to trying out this suggestion and it works. I pulled version: 2.0.17 (106) and installed it. I'm getting notifications on my watch again.
Current version is 2.0.36, which was just released yesterday it seems. I tested all versions on APKMirror between 2.0.17 and the newest and 2.0.17 seems to be the last version that will send notifications to Android Wear.
Where I can get the 2.0.17 version?
Thanks

Make sure, if you do this, that you disable automatic updates in Google Play Store app. Otherwise it'll just try to overwrite outlook with the newer version automatically.

I believe I did submit a report, but I'll do it again just to make sure.
On a side note, after trying a BUNCH of different programs, here's what I finally settled on:
I'm using the newest version of MS Outlet. This obviously doesn't get notifications to my watch, so I'm running AquaMail and using the imap interface to get push updates from my Exchange Server. AquaMail did the best job in terms of speed and notification type, at least for me.
Others I tried:
Cloud Magic: Speed is decent, but I only saw the first notification on my watch. Subsequent notifications never went to watch until notifications on phone were cleared.
BlueMail: This was horrible slow for me. Even 5+ minutes after Outlook or Cloudmagic would see the email Bluemail still hasn't received the message. Not sure on notifications on watch.
Mailwise: Very fast on receiving new email, and the notification showed on the watch for each notification, but after the first one you just get a list of outstanding notifications for Mailwise so you don't get to see the full subject, title or body of the newest notification. Outlook in version 2.0.17 (the last one that sent notifications to the watch) did the same thing.
After pulling 2.0.17 my watch is receiving notifications again. I have also reached out to support with this info. I am running Marshmellow and everything seems to be working fine. Hopefully, they will fix this on their latest release. For now, all Outlook updates are off.
Thanks again!
Thanks for this I thought I was going crazy as I think I just started using Outlook right before that update came and removed the watch notifications.
I noticed this too, I assumed that it was a change to the security policy... it'd be nice to have it work again
Just got this back from Outlook support :
Hello Andrew
Thank you for contacting Outlook Mobile Support. I understand your concern but we no longer support Android Wear. If you would like to address these issues then you will need to contact the retailer! I apologize for this inconvenience.
Warm Regards
The "retailer" you refer to is Google. They support the android wear app and the watches. The issue is that the outlook app is not sending notifications to the Android o/s in a normal manner. Every other app works just fine. Only the outlook app has this problem. The notifications did work until the app was upgraded beyond version 2.0.17. Something changed that broke the notifications at that point. I do hope you will continue to support your app and the android wear community!
Hello Andrew
That is when we stopped support the Android Wear devices. We will support Android Wear when Android Wear advises us to again. We enjoy helping! I apologize for this inconvenience again!
Warm Regards
So they know it's busted but won't fix it unless Google calls them??
That is horrible and typical M$.
It is not free, but touchdown has exchange activesync with push notifications. I am a teacher and it is a huge help with all the email I get.
Alternatively, you could downgrade outlook and not let it update.

Figures. I found it really useful to have work email and calendar notifications sent to my watch as I am not always at my desk. I reported the "bug" and got basically the same response as above. I guess the community will need to come up with another Microsoft work around. Does anyone know of a killer feature or bug that was fixed between 2.0.17 and current? Trying to decide if the juice is worth the squeeze.

Google Calendar (stock) firing notifications/alerts late or not at all !

Hi all,
I’m on an unrooted Marshmallow 6.0 MXPE with the May security patch. I use the stock calendar (Google - version 5.5.14-128688903-release) for appointments, reminders, etc. and only enter events on the phone itself (I don't log into a computer to my Google Calendar and send myself emails, so this isn't a "push notification" issue, if I have my lingo correct.) Anyway, my phone either goes off minutes/hours late or my phone doesn't go off at all, causing me to miss multiple appointments, etc. In my 7+ years with Android phones this has never happened to me, and my lousy memory cause this current issue to be a tragic one! I've tried using 3rd-party calendars as well (DigiCal, Today) and the same thing is happening. Here are some things I've tried:
1. I've selected Settings -> General -> Notify on this device and also de-selected it while using Google Calendar, and I also tried this setting even when using the 3rd-party apps.
2. On the MXPE I’ve gone into Settings -> Battery -> Battery Optimization and set Google Calendar (called just “Calendar” in this app list) and any 3rd-party calendar apps to “Not optimized”. I then tried setting EVERYTHING to “Not optimized” (trying to see if that made a difference despite the App Standby feature being basically nullified, if I understand that correctly).
3. I’ve cleared the cache partition on the phone upon re-boot.
4. I’ve downloaded and installed an app called Force Doze and whtelisted the calendar apps
5. I’ve used adb to use the script “dumpsys deviceidle disable” to disable Doze (albeit temporarily, since this would go away once the phone was rebooted) and this didn’t seem to show any improvements.
I’ve done hours of research online and remember reading somewhere that Doze will still kick in even if an app has been whitelisted. I’m not a programmer (although I’ve rooted past phones and am fairly tech-savvy) so I don’t know how to resolve this big issue. I’m not sure if factory resetting my phone would make a difference. Or do I root the phone so there’s a way to disable Doze altogether, if that is in fact the issue (after all, I would rather have a phone with lousy battery life and receive calendar notifications than miss them). One thing to note is that the Google Calendar app is a bit glitchy for me, such as when I tap the 3 bars at the top left to get to the Settings menu, and the app freezes nearly every single time. I don’t see a way to uninstall the Google Calendar app and re-install, if that would even help. The good news is that the app and all the calendars always sync with my Google account.
Nearly all the research I’ve done only shows people with the “push notification” issue where their wifi got disabled or something like that. My issue is different. Has anyone had any issues like mine and/or found a solution? Sorry for the longwinded post but I am at my wit’s end and wanted to list all the details.
