Android MS Outlook notifications stopped showing up on Wear. - Wear OS Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been using Outlook on my Galaxy S5 for a while now and was getting email notification on my watch (Moto 360 2nd gen) without difficult. Then I just stopped getting email notifications. I appear to still be getting calendar notifications, but not email.
I did two things around the time when the notifications stopped:
1.) Installed an app on my phone create extra vibrations on the watch when notifications were received (Feel the Wear).
2.) Setup the default sammy calendar to sync with my work's Exchange calendar so I could get calendar info in WatchMaker.
To trouble shoot I've tried:
a.) Uninstalling the app listed above and removing the calendar sync setup.
b.) Uninstalling and re-installing MS Outlook
c.) Verifying that Outlook is not listed as a block/ignore app in Android Wear
d.) Forgetting and reconnecting my watch
e.) Verified that I'm getting outlook notifications properly on my phone.
f.) Searching google and xda... couldn't find anything, but I'll admit I didn't do a super huge search here in xda.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm working around this right now by using eNotify, but I hate to use additional programs to do something that I should be able to do without them.

I have the same issue. About 2 days ago Outlook stopped sending notifications to my watch (LG Watch Urbane). I still get them on my phone, but they do not get sent to the watch.
I do not have Feel the Wear and I have not made any recent changes to how my phone syncs anything. I have also tried disconnecting and reconnecting everything and confirming that Outlook is not on the notification block list. I updated the Outlook app from the Play Store today, but still no joy.

I've tried even doing a factory reset on the watch, and this has only led to bigger problems. Now ALL notifications are being super temperamental for me.

Same problem here. I'm glad to see someone else is experiencing it. I've found nothing helpful on google about it.

This link here:
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/android-wear/KV62Rs3fZHs;context-place=topicsearchin/android-wear/notifications$20stopped
is saying that it's a Microsoft issue. Can't verify that info, but it does seem consistent with the fact that we all seem to have noticed it stopped right around the same time and it's only MS Outlook that did it.

Same thing here on my Huawei Watch. My workaround was to restart notifications from the stock email app, so at least I won't miss anything. If it's fixed and I start getting double notifications I'll turn them off on the stock app again.

Pull down previous version from apk mirror and give it a shot.

Reviving a bit of an old thread here, but I finally got around to trying out this suggestion and it works. I pulled version: 2.0.17 (106) and installed it. I'm getting notifications on my watch again.
Current version is 2.0.36, which was just released yesterday it seems. I tested all versions on APKMirror between 2.0.17 and the newest and 2.0.17 seems to be the last version that will send notifications to Android Wear.

Where I can get the 2.0.17 version?
Thanks

APKmirror: http://www.apkmirror.com/?s=outlook&post_type=app_release
Make sure, if you do this, that you disable automatic updates in Google Play Store app. Otherwise it'll just try to overwrite outlook with the newer version automatically.

has everyone having this problem submitted a bug through the app? It wont get fixed if we don't report it.

I believe I did submit a report, but I'll do it again just to make sure.

On a side note, after trying a BUNCH of different programs, here's what I finally settled on:
I'm using the newest version of MS Outlet. This obviously doesn't get notifications to my watch, so I'm running AquaMail and using the imap interface to get push updates from my Exchange Server. AquaMail did the best job in terms of speed and notification type, at least for me.
Others I tried:
Cloud Magic: Speed is decent, but I only saw the first notification on my watch. Subsequent notifications never went to watch until notifications on phone were cleared.
BlueMail: This was horrible slow for me. Even 5+ minutes after Outlook or Cloudmagic would see the email Bluemail still hasn't received the message. Not sure on notifications on watch.
Mailwise: Very fast on receiving new email, and the notification showed on the watch for each notification, but after the first one you just get a list of outstanding notifications for Mailwise so you don't get to see the full subject, title or body of the newest notification. Outlook in version 2.0.17 (the last one that sent notifications to the watch) did the same thing.

After pulling 2.0.17 my watch is receiving notifications again. I have also reached out to support with this info. I am running Marshmellow and everything seems to be working fine. Hopefully, they will fix this on their latest release. For now, all Outlook updates are off.
Thanks again!

Thanks for this I thought I was going crazy as I think I just started using Outlook right before that update came and removed the watch notifications.

I noticed this too, I assumed that it was a change to the security policy... it'd be nice to have it work again

Just got this back from Outlook support :
Hello Andrew
Thank you for contacting Outlook Mobile Support. I understand your concern but we no longer support Android Wear. If you would like to address these issues then you will need to contact the retailer! I apologize for this inconvenience.
Warm Regards
The "retailer" you refer to is Google. They support the android wear app and the watches. The issue is that the outlook app is not sending notifications to the Android o/s in a normal manner. Every other app works just fine. Only the outlook app has this problem. The notifications did work until the app was upgraded beyond version 2.0.17. Something changed that broke the notifications at that point. I do hope you will continue to support your app and the android wear community!
Hello Andrew
That is when we stopped support the Android Wear devices. We will support Android Wear when Android Wear advises us to again. We enjoy helping! I apologize for this inconvenience again!
Warm Regards
So they know it's busted but won't fix it unless Google calls them??

That is horrible and typical M$.
It is not free, but touchdown has exchange activesync with push notifications. I am a teacher and it is a huge help with all the email I get.
Alternatively, you could downgrade outlook and not let it update.

Figures. I found it really useful to have work email and calendar notifications sent to my watch as I am not always at my desk. I reported the "bug" and got basically the same response as above. I guess the community will need to come up with another Microsoft work around. Does anyone know of a killer feature or bug that was fixed between 2.0.17 and current? Trying to decide if the juice is worth the squeeze.

Is anyone else having problems getting alerts or notifications for new email that hits exchange?
New email flows in but the notification bar never shows it, despite it being set to do so.
For whatever it's worth, exchange notifications do show up in the status bar for me.
They work for me as well. It must be something unique with your config.
They work for me sometimes, and sometimes not.
I am hoping the Verizon update due out anytime will help.
Darn. Just noticed after last nights update and reboot that I did have a new message come in with no status bar notification.

There is a thorough Motorola support forum thread on this subject. It looks like Moto really dropped the ball on pre-release exchange testing. You should consider yourself lucky, I can't even connect to Exchange .
It's looking as if the SSL doens't even work, so if you unckeck SSL, it still looks for the cert. We don't have SSL here, so we're out of luck...they claim to be working on a fix.

This is a major oversight, I mean come on, I know that their PCS division at Moto moved to Gmail, but the rest of their company is still on exchange how could they mess this up out of the box?
I get some notifications, like 1 in 20 emails. Really frustrating.
I so I set mine to sync to the last week. First time I go in it does that slowly. Next time I hit refresh it sync's the whole damn inbox (but not my other folders). Then I can't receive anymore mail (push worked the first time) which I'm assuming is because the inbox is full on the phone... maybe.
No ssl on our server either so i couldn't connect. Had to resort to spending the money on touchdown but it works so well i can't complain. I also don't mind keeping the work stuff separate

I'm having major issues as well. To be honest this really impacts the useablilty of the device for me. We are very email centric where I work. My iPhone on the other hand somethings notifies me before the Outlook client on my laptop... Grrr.
Same issue here. Calander/Gmail/Text/etc. all work with the notification bar but my Exchange email does not pop up on the notification bar.

I have been using Seven, works great, just a bit of a hassle to have to have two apps handling different types of email accounts.
This issue has been present while using WIFI. Turn off wifi and restart your phone. The phone will start getting pushed mail again.
Really annoying...

[Q] Email apps keeps hanging/spinning - help

Anyone else having issues with the email app? Mine seems to just keep spinning when trying to download new emails so I have to keep killing it and relaunching it to get new emails. Sometimes even after I see the list of messages, if I click on one to read it just churns like its trying to d/l message. I have to kill and relaunch again. Irritating as you can imagine.
I'm on yahoo and believe I'm on the latest release. I'm not on any fancy from, just the stock + updates. Yes. I'm the original owner.
Just looking for guidance here. Seemed to be fine until the last few months. I thought it might have been the widget so I removed that and just check email from the app itself. No go. I really kinda miss the nice widget UI that tells me how messages in queue but will just take a consistently working email app I don't have to re-launch every time I want to check email.
Thanks in advance for any help.

[Q] Email notification does not always work after KitKat upgrade

Hi guys,
i've updated to KitKat from 4.3 on my Nexus and now i am not receiving new email sound notifications unless i open the app and mark all messages as read. This is my work account (exchange) and the issue is really annoying because my daily email flow is about 100 messages. Most require my attention right away and i have to turn the phone on and off every few minutes to see if new message is there.
i've tried re-adding the account, changed notification sound, updated to 4.4.1 and then to 4.4.2 but the issue is still there.
any suggestions?
device is complete stock.

I'm having the same issue here. Did not notice the issue on 4.4 or 4.4.1 but as soon as I updated to stock 4.4.2 the issue showed up. Sometimes the unread email will be there if I open the app but no notification sound or icon. I'm also getting delayed push emails randomly. It seems to work fine for an hour or two then no emails will show up unless I manually pull and I'll get a flood and e-mails will come in normally for a while.

i am still getting emails pushed, but no notification sounds...
any ideas how to fix this???
I tried wiping my device and flashing the factory image, issues remain.
Something I have noticed is that the second I open the Email application, the messages show up in the list .. of course no notifications.. Another behavior is that when the sync is configured with "Push" it is supposed to be realtime, and before KitKat, it was that way.. I'd get an alert on my phone the next second I received an email.. However, that also seems to be screwed up as well. I was hoping this 4.4.1 or 4.4.2 would resolve the issue but it didn't.
So I contacted google about this yesterday and the first few emails went nowhere. Then they transferred me to a 'specialist', here is their response:
Hello Brian,
Thank you for your response. Not being able to sync your emails through exchange is frustrating. I would be more than happy to assist you in syncing with the Exchange server. Unfortunately, at this time in order to sync with the Exchange server you need to access a third party app through 'Google Play'. In the future there may be updates to the Android OS that may allow for syncing with the Exchange server. Currently, Kitkat is unable to facilitate syncing with the Exchange server.
If you have any further questions, concerns or downloading a third party app does not resolve the issue please feel free to reply to this email or contact us at support.google.com.
Best Regards,
Valerie

I think Google tweaked the email client to turn off notifications unless you open the app. If you get the first email, it will make a sound. If you don't open the app and check it, it will stop notifying you of further emails. I'm really not sure what the solution will be to this issue..
This is on my Nexus 5, but I have the same email client that the N4 does.

That's a Gmail setting, we're referring to the native email app that handles Exchange accounts
For me not

try using the application of your email provider(f.e. if you have a microsoft account use outlook.com app). that is what i do and i don't have any problem anymore. if you like to have all your different accounts in one application i would suggest to find another application. droid mail and k9 mail are quite good as far as i know

I use it for my Exchange account for work email, there's no other email provider client. I'll see if I can get droid mail or K9, but they're relatively expensive options for just this 1 issue.

[Q] Wear app constantly crashes when corp email account synced

Got my Live and G watch today, but am bummed as the Wear companion app constantly crashes on my Nexus 5 running stock 4.4.4. After finding no info online, I factory reset my Nexus 5 to add apps back and try to isolate the cause.
Long story short, it is when I sync my corporate exchange email account via the stock mail app that causes the Wear app crashes. If I delete the exchange account, Wear runs fine. When I add the exchange account back, it dumps all over itself... I need to sync exchange for my job, so I'm dead in the water... ...sigh... I bought the Live and G watch to try them both out too...
Hopefully an update comes quick, or someone has a suggestion.
maybe this isn't a good idea / won't work for you but.. a 3rd party email app.. or adding the account though the gmail app may work? if possible.

Have exactly the same behavior on stock HTC One M7 running latest 4.4.2 (Sense 6.0) with Samsung Live. With my corporate Exchange account configured, Google Wear app continually crashes and the phone doesn't sync with the watch. As soon as I remove the Exchange account from the phone, everything works perfectly with Google Wear.
now using the Touchdown mail app as a temp workaround
So I tried multiple other activesync mail apps (Mailwise, Nine, etc), just to make sure the problem wasn't the stock android mail app itself. Same results with the Android Wear app repeatedly crashing until I kill the exchange account.
Finally I tried the app Touchdown, with is a bit different in that it sticks your exchange account in its own security container. That seems to be a functional workaround. The problem is it only a 30 day trial, and I don't like the app itself.
Ultimately I bought my Android Wear device as a peripheral to use at work, so not having the native email app functionality to use is frustrating. I get that this is new tech, so its the early adopter blues for me lol. Hopefully Google fixes the Android Wear app before the trial runs out on Touchdown, because I definitely like the new watches.
Anyone have luck with with the Samsung email app and wear? My watch comes Friday and I will definitely need to get exchange email on it.

had the same problem on my LG G watch together with the company excahnge integration (nexus 5 - google default mail app).
did several resets - reboots etc. etc. no luck...
after 1day of testing i found a working solution for me -
1) remove the exchange account from your mail app
2) install the "cloudMagic" app (supported for android wear)
3) configure cloudMagic to work with your company exchange ---
4) receive company mails and notification again - and use your android wear app again
cons:

Just a heads up... CloudMagic copies *all* of your email on to their own servers. They index it locally on their own systems which is how they get such fast mail searches. This would be a violation of most enterprise IT usage agreements..
I've seen updates to the Wear device... hopefully they update the Wear app soon!

That's not a solution - it's a workaround with some serious limitations including that CloudMagic probably violates most of our IT security policies by storing your email on their servers.
I've noticed something especially odd about the crashing on my S4 and the Samsung Messaging app. It works for me in the late morning, afternoon and evening. Then the crashes start sometime after I go to sleep and continue through mid morning. So each morning I remove my corp email account and then by around 10am I put it back and it works well again until the next overnight.
I am using nine and have no issue with my corporate email. I can reply, mark as read or delete straight from the watch . I have the Samsung gear live

Delayed push notifications

Hi all,
Has anyone else noticed a significant delay with push notifications (namely with gmail)?
I've got my old iPhone and the Nexus 6P side by side, and at best the push notifications come in 10 seconds later than the iPhone (sometimes it can take up to 10 minutes). I've tried the push notification fix as suggested for other phones, but got no love there.
Any suggestions?

I just realized gmail only does push.
I just tested it on my Nexus 6p and it pushed a few seconds after the email was sent. At first however I had to manually refresh for the first test email, then the second test email pushed to the device.
I tested by sending a email from a icloud account on my macbook and sending to my gmail account on my phone.

Same here, seems strange that it's taking so long then...
Also, when deleting an email from the notification, it just keeps popping back up (i.e. not deleting). There's obviously some strange sync issue going on with gmail and exchange
I've had the same problem and haven't found a solution either. Glad to see that I'm not the only one! I posted on Reddit, but it didn't get much play. https://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus6P/comments/3seyj6/delayed_gmail_syncnotifications/
To try and fix the issue, I've (in no particular order):
Removed my Google account and readded
Gone through Gmail settings to make sure that notifications are on, sync is active, managed labels
Gone through the Google account to make sure that Gmail sync is on
Restarted
Uninstalled updates to Gmail from the Play Store
Reinstalled updates to Gmail from the Play Store
Force Stopped Gmail
Cleared data from Gmail
Cleared cache from Gmail
Removed it from optimized apps
Changed my password on computer, then waited for phone to ask to reinput
I'm on a 64 GB Aluminum, unlocked, MDB08M. I do not have my SIM card yet (only Wi-Fi). Perhaps that's the issue?
I'm getting to the point where I'm going to factory reset, but I was really hoping I wouldn't have to, and I'm not optimistic it would help.

Yeah I've done the factory reset already and can confirm it does nothing. I'm beginning to think its the Gmail app, as the rest of my push notifications are faster or the same speed as iOS. Really crap by the Gmail devs if that is the case.
Any decent replacement email apps out there? The Samsung email app was quicker, but not sure if we can get that without rooting and flashing an apk (and even then not sure if it requires touchwiz to function).
With my 6P Hotspoting to tablet and pc email arrives on 6P a minute or 2 after them.
I don't know if this is the same or not. I have this issue with both the Yahoo mail app and the Outlook app. My gmail notifications seem to be showing up reliably, but I never get any Outlook notifications, and Yahoo's are sporadic--one our of every three or four. When I open either app, it then seems to go fetch the incoming emails. On my previous phone, when I open the app, they're already there. I don't believe I have anything set differently in the apps. I would love to figure this out.
So, I did a factory reset and installed nothing but Outlook and Yahoo mail. Then I sent two notes to my Outlook, Yahoo, and Gmail addresses, and all three of each note arrived almost simultaneously. I guess, now, I'll start re-installing essential apps and testing.
Was looking around and saw someone posted on the official Nexus forums; if anyone here is still having the issue, please head over and +1/reply so Google can escalate the fix.

I'm having the same issue and I've also noticed that IMs on Hangouts are ridiculously slow. You would think that Google would make sure that at least their own apps worked smoothly on their flagship device.
I think I may have solved my sync issues. In the WiFi advanced settings, I switched the WiFi frequency band from Auto to 2.4Ghz. Ever since I did that I've received notifications on my Nexus 6P just as quickly as I do on other devices.
Wow, glad I saw this thread. I've been noticing gmail is slow lately. I thought it might have been my ROM/Kernel combo. I use Inbox and it was fine up until lately. Guess it's a bug for Google to fix. I even spent time last night reflashing stock and starting fresh out of box state.
This is happening to me too..happens on gmail and as well as Google opinion rewards. It's been happening for a little over a week now...hopefully will be fixed soon..
Is it happening to everybody or just a select lucky few?

Lots of users having this issue
http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...syncing-issues-in-gmail-inbox-and-other-apps/
I see that lot of people are only discussing about Gmail and other mailing or hangout apps.
I on the other hand am seeing overall notification push delay across all the apps including Whatsapp, Gmail, Facebook etc. I am unrooted and no changes made whatsoever to my android marshmallow. It is also on latest OTA build.
I receive all notifications as soon as I unlock the device, but if my device is lying on a table (even when not in doze mode which means lying for less than 30 minutes) I still don't receive any notification. As soon as I unlock and turn on screen it seems like data connectivity resumed and all notifications starts to flow within 5-10 seconds without even opening those apps to refresh.
I also have not modified any other notification setting and I even tried to keep whatsapp to priority mode + no battery optimization, still Whatsapp is having hard time receiving notification if screen is turned off for more than 5 minutes..
If you are experiencing this kind of an issue and have successfully resolved it, kindly help me.
I've lost email notifications but I have read that Google know about the problem,
