G5 plus - NFC wont work with Sony camera - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

Hey
My dad has a Sony RX100 iii and his G5 plus will not receive pictures from his camera using the Play Memories app.
Android Pay works, so doesn't seem like a phone NFC issue.
Anyone else had this problem?

Hi,
I don't have this problem, as I don't have a RX100.
However, I detected a very low range NFC in this mobile (see my post about it):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/help/nfc-low-range-t3607724
From my experience the problem is that you need to approach very close to the HFC chip (or antena)... and if this Sony camera has also a limited NFC range then is imposible to communicate.
Try to search where is the NFC chip/antenna of the RX100 and aproximate it to the top of the mobile, in the back and in the center.

NFC is just above the camera..Tried it all...it works with other phones but not G5+

same here, G5 plus and Sony WX500. I didn't learn how to make it work. Out of 20 attempts I heard the Moto NFC failure notification only once. The low range explanation makes sense.

I had the same issue with different (SONY)camera model. Neither the Play Memories nor the camera worked with NFC.

Does G5 PLus has NFC to begin with?

Yes...use it every day

Moto G vs Galaxy S5
179.99$ vs 525.83$
This comparison doesn't make any sense.:silly:
Here is the problem with the video: Sukesh Banik, the guy who made the video, should have used "factory reset" on both phones before making this video. On the Moto G the Dialer and Messaging loaded faster because there were no number or messages. Even the gallery on Moto G was empty.
He should "Factory Reset" both phones and do a proper comparison video.
This is not the proper way to compare devices.
Well I have come to the moto g from a Nexus 5 32gb, the Nexus broke and I didn't want to spend that sort of money again, liked the idea of dual sim which I now use one sim for T mobile £20 for 6 months internet and a Giffgaff sim for calls and texts, works great and the signal strength is much better than the Nexus, also has better battery life plus on normal use there's very little difference between the two phones bar the very odd stutter here and there on the moto g, but given the price difference and cpu / rom etc the moto is a very capable device.

Moto G4 plus sensors

Hello,
I am considering buying moto g4 plus, but some reviews mentioned the phone doesn't sport that many sensors (including magnetometer). Could someone post a screenshot of sensors list using cpu-z app on the phone?
TIA
This what you're looking for?
Yeah! this is what i needed. Thanks!
so there really isnt any compass on this device though there are many other sensors
Buy this phone if u want a 1990 pc with great features! Instructions are simple, keep it under AC...

Motorola Moto G4 Plus Sensors
The previous takes out the requirement for a warning LED as it demonstrates to you the time and a sneak peak of your notices opening the telephone, the minute you move it. There is an LED to one side of the unique finger impression sensor, however we just saw it when it quickly lit up while charging the telephone. Moto Actions gives you a chance to trigger different movement based motions, which all work as promoted. There aren't any preloaded applications other than a record supervisor and the standard suite of Google applications.

Should I buy the G4 Plus now or wait until the G5 Plus is released ?

Hi, I currently have a Moto G (2014) and I want to change my phone.
I don't know if I should wait for the moto G5 (I don't know the release date) or buy the G4 now.
I heard that it will be not much better than the G4 anyway ?
Also another question , how's the x265(1080p) decoding on Moto G4 ? Most of my video files are encoded in x265..
G5 images was fake... Go for g4 plus

I havent had any problems with G4+. I dont play many games and I dont record long videos so I havent had any heat issues. I bought 64gb for $250 on Swappa.
I unlocked bootloader, Seamless root without any hiccups. Great device for me.
I dont think the Moto G series will get much better than the current Moto G4+ for a year or two.
PS I also have Moto G3 2015 as my oops phone. There is an advantage with Moto G4+.
Unless I'm mistaken it's the same hardware just with a fingerprint sensor and more storage options. I have the regular G4 and like it and wouldn't use the fingerprint anyways. If you want more storage it's probably cheaper to get like a 32-64gb as card for cheaper than the price difference of buying the other phone model. Just my opinion.
Go for Moto G4 plus now !
Go for G4+ as the G5 news cannot be relied upon. Also, your G(2014) is way too old, if you wanna change your phone, G4+ would be best so far in that price range. Waiting for G5 at this stage will make you halt for atleast a year-and-half from now, and would not contain much of the "GREATER" changes. As for codec support, the device (G4+) works perfectly fine with the x265(1080p) decoding. In fact it works brilliant with all codecs.
Wait for REDMI 4 PRIME ( Snapdragon 625, 4000mAh battery,3GB RAm,32 gb internal, fingerprint scanner), all under 15K!!!!!
Its rumoured to launch in India in Jan/Feb.
I would hold my horses and wait for its launch,Snapdragon 617 is one of the worst performing Soc ever(I didn't forgot Snapdragon 810 v2.1)
PS: I have nothing against g4 plus except that mediocre processor used by Moto to save cost!! I recommended my sister to buy moto g4 plus, it's an excellent camera phone under 15K,if not the best budget phone.

The phone throttles very soon and is not good basic functionality like recording FHD videos as the frame drops starts to occur and is even present in the saved video file. Also not good for gaming more than 30min!!!!!!

It was fixed some months ago. No overheating issues viewing VR 360º videos or playing Asphalt 8 in latest MM or Nougat.

Is the G4 Plus rear camera module (A16V04B) compatible with the G4 (XT1622)?

It is possible to replace my broken Moto G4 (XT1622) camera module with the G4 Plus rear camera module (A16V04B)? Fixez says the better G4 plus module with 16 MP (f/2.0) is also comaptible with the G4. See link
Maybe the motherboard conector is different. I don't recommend doing that

I was analysing some videos and looks like the motherboard are also the same. I mean, the moto g4 XT1626 doesn't have a fingerprint connector. That's the only difference that I found by seeing the video.
I'm curious too. I bought a A16V04B module to test on my XT1626, I'm waiting for it to arrive. When I get the test, I'll post the results here. The XT1626 also has a identical flash flat with the laser on it. The thing is: will Moto G4 XT1626 recongnize a 16MP camera sensor with laser autofocus?

the XT1626 is an interesting model. I taught all G4 models have only contrast-based focusing. If the G4 plus module is working with a G4 model, the XT1626 has the best chance.

I am not sure whether the XT1626 has the laser autofocus hardware. I thinks It's just the Rear Proximity sensor. This device has two proximity sensors, in this case, the mentioned rear sensor has the function to detect when the phone position changes (when you pick up it from a table, for example) to work with the integrated Moto actions.
The XT164* devices have a different ribbon cable, with the laser hardware, even the glass of the camera is different (has 2 holes, instead of 1).
Anyway, the camera connector looks the same for the two devices, maybe the module is identical and only changes the sensor inside it (Sony IMX / OmniVision).
Did you manage to get the G4 Plus camera installed on your xt1626. I'm also looking to perform a similar upgrade but on an xt1625 model.
Didn't work
The try to put Moto G Plus camera on my Moto G xt1626 was unsuccessful. I think they make a restriction in the ROM to block that kind of modification. I haven't tried to change the ROM or put the moto G Plus flash ribbon cable to test.
Hello, thanks for your answer. You have tried an alternative camera app, for example open camera? I think it is a good idea to install a custom rom and try again. Link to the modded stock camera app

Did you finally ever try this with a custom ROM? G4 now has stable Oreo and Pie ROMs available.

In front and back camera for portrait mode

Nokia 6 and moto g4 plus both are work in stock android
In Nokia 6 Google camera to possible portrait mode
But moto g4 plus why can't install
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-6/themes/google-camera-hdr-portrait-selfie-t3733577
Please dev work camera
Portrait mode not only needs software but also a hardware support! The processor support is needed.. The processors used might be different! Also, I haven't seen the ROM of Nokia 6... For portrait mode the ROM needs to be 64bit.
Google camera's portrait mode is made for pixel 2..look at its specs and the processor and the camera hardware it carries.
I don't know about Nokia 6's config so won't be able to comment exactly the difference.
But please don't ask devs to do something. They provide stuff for free and they know what to provide when! They do it in their free time hence the delay. We all have out lives apart from this forum!
You can use lens blurr in google camera for now it works in the same way.

It also doesn't help that on oreo, we don't have a stable camera.
Remember that even if the phone had the same CPU the implementation could be completely different and would require separate methods of porting.
The Pixel 2 features of GCAM is designed to be only used on the, guess what? The Pixel 2. The community has ported over the features to work on many devices but it is not designed to run on all devices.
We might even have to wait for the official release of stock oreo, please be patient and see.
Agreed with the above post. as far as i know, Gcam works effectively on 64 bit ROM with camera2api and Oreo. We still do not have official Oreo neither do we have oreo camera drivers to support it.
Why Google camera is working on Moto g5 plus and not on Moto g4 plus since both have ported 64bit ROM
