Bootloop after trying to downgrade to MM - Huawei P9 Lite Questions & Answers

Hello,
today I tried to downgrade from nougat to MM. After the MM Rom was installed, my phone only shows me the Huawei Brand. The phone does not start, it only shows huawei brand. How can I rescue my phone now ???? Please help
Edit:
If I press Power + VolDown it says PHONE Locked, FRP Unlock
I tried the rollback with this method:

Volup + Power , Format data, Format Cache, Reboot

That is unfortunately not helping. If I do so the phone restarts and the Huawei Boot Logo shows up, but I am not able to enter erevory or somethin else. Only thing working is fastboot when I press Volume down.

Make sure you dont have the usb cable plugged when you try to enter recovery.
Have you tried flash the MM UPDATE.APP again ?

Yes I Trier without USB cable plugged in. What I recognised before the bootloop is: The flash of the rollback Version was successful but the phone was then already stuck in bootloop. So i don't even could install the real Version of MM.
Is there a possibility to install the stock Rom with fastboot? My bootloader is opened and I don't Kind if I lose all my data.

You should be able to put the MM update in dload folder of your sdcard, and use the 3 button method to flash it.
Otherwise use huawei firmware extractor to pull the system.img data.img boot.img from the update.app of the MM, and use fastboot flash system SYSTEM.img . Same thing for boot and data

Thanks for your answers and your help. The first method is not working, if I press all three buttons together, my phone just restarts and the Huawei Boot Sign shows up again.
I'd like to try the second method? But could you tell me, how I can find the system.img, data.img, boot.img files and where I can find the HUAWEI FIRMWARE EXTRACTOR.

Use this tool to extract them from the UPDATE.APP file of the MM: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2433454
First extract the RECOVERY.img only and flash it with fastboot. After that test the three button method again (make sure that you have the file from MM (2.0GB) in the dload folder). If it doesnt work, try the thing i said before.

OK, sorry for being such a noob. I now installed the Huawei Extractor. Furthermore I downlaoded stock Rom MM B130. Now there are two ZIP Files (like you can see on the picture). Do I have to extract both of them???
EDIT:
There is no data.img in Huawei Extractor. I have taken a screenshot of the files too (you can see it on the second image).

No, only the first (1.7gb).
EDIT: Forget the data.img for now. Try to flash the other files and even if it dont boot, use the version C432B160 to flash using dload method

Before I do the steps you discribed I have two questions.
First: I have to recovery images... RECOVERY.img and RECOVERY2.img. Do I have to flash both of them?
Second: I took a SD Card now and created a folder named dload. In it I put the UPDATE.app file. This has 3 GB, in your post you said it has to be 2 GB. So did I take the right UPDATE file or is it the wrong one?

I now managed to flash BOOT.img, RECOVERY.img and SYSTEM.img. Afterwards it was possible to extract UPDATE.app by pressing VOL up # VOL down # and the other Button (don't know the english word). But the installation of the UPDATE.app stops on 5%. Whats the reason for this?

So I have a guess right now: Before I tried to downgrade my phone I uninstalled SuperSu but I didn't unroot my phone. So my phone could be still rooted. Could this be the problem why the installation is not working?

odin is for samsung phones, try unlocking the bootloader, fastboot flash twrp, flash oeminfo in twrp and then use the update.app and 3 button combo, there are guides on this forum explaining exactly how to do it. just make sure you have the correct files.

[GUIDE Step-byStep]RETURN2STOCK/UNBRICK/UNLOCK/ROOT] e.g. STUCK AFTER UPDATE

How to unbrick or get back stock on your Huawei Mate 8. There are many reasons why you would want to do that.
In my case my device (AL10) was stuck at "your device cannot be trusted" after updating from B180 to B321.
First I got to thank acer73 for his software. ajsmsg78 and Kris Chen for their links to the right ROMs.
Also thanks to DarkSilentSC for his help, especially with the L29, great support.
He has a L29, which I don't have, so I'm glad he provides help with that device.
This worked for me on my AL10 to get it back on track, should work on other models too. Just have to find the right ROMSs as according to your model. However, I am not responsible if this does not work for you or if it bricks your phone even more.
And remember: don't forget turning on usb debugging whenever you can!
Unbrick (return to Stock)
1. Find yourself a stock ROM.zip according to your model and extract from the zip the update.app (I used one from a B172 (AL10) Stock ROM, I was running a B180 custom ROM, it worked.)
2. Download the Huawei Update Extractor http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2433454
3. Extract boot.img, recovery.img, system.img and cust.img with the HuaweiUpateExtractor from the Update.App you find in the ROM to somewhere where you can find them easily
4. Head over to http://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/development/rayglobe-italian-knife-t3295526 (You can also do it with fastboot commands, but Acer73's tool makes it easier)
5. get yourself the Italian Knife (btw you probably have to turn off your anti-virus program), extract it in a directory on your PC and start Rayglobe_knife.exe
6. Put the images you have extracted into the folder Unbrick (same directory where you extracted Rayglobe Knife in). The folder was created after you started Rayglobe_Knife.exe
7. Boot your phone into bootloader.
8. In the Rayglobe Knife tool choose Unbrick and choose the option where it says you have placed all the images in the unbrick folder.
9. let the magic work. The phone will restart and it will probably take 15 minutes, make sure its charged enough.
After all that I quickly updated to the latest Stock ROM version, in my case B321, which you need to do if you want to flash later a custom B321. See second post if you want to do that as well or continue with unlocking the bootloader.
Now lets get the bootloader unlocked (for some reason mine was still unlocked)
1. Get Minimal ADB https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24521665358595410
2. Hopefully you still have your unlock code (cause you need it otherwise it won't work)
3. Put your phone in Bootloader Mode (Press & hold power and volume down)
4. Extract Minimal ADB zip and run command.bat
5. Type <fastboot oem unlock xxxxxxxxxxxxx> (where xxxx is your bootloader unlock code)
6. Done
Now lets get twrp set up
1. For that we need minimal ADB again
2. Headover to http://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/development/recovery-twrp-huawei-mate-8-t3298567
3. Download TWRP according to your EMUI (For B321 it's EMUI 4.1)
4. Place the image in the directory of the Minimal ADB
5. Rename it to just twrp.img (not necessary but simplifies things)
6. Put your phone in Bootloader Mode (Press & hold power and volume down)
7. Run command.bat
8. Type <fastboot flash recovery twrp.img>
9. Then type fastboot reboot
10. Now you can hold volume up and power until your phone boots into TWRP
11. You need to format data (you'll lose everything on your phone)
12. Done
Remember: don't forget turning on usb debugging whenever you can!
!!!FOR L29 scroll down to DarkSilentSC's instructions!!!
After unbricking I quickly updated my AL10 to the latest version, in this case B321. Should work with all B3xx
1. Head over to Kris Chen's thread (this I used for the AL10)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/development/rom-verison-t3324164
Or ajsmsg78's (also AL10 and L09)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66776194&postcount=58 to get the Stock B321
2. Download the ROM and after downloading the zip file, extract update.app from it. Copy the UPDATE.APP to the internal memory of your HM8 in a folder called - dload (you may have to create it). Then press [volume+]+
[volume-]+[power] together to force the update.
3. Voila B321
-----------
!!![For the L29 you should try DarkSilentSC's instructions, which you find below or in post #54 on page 6 http://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/general/unbrick-updating-to-b321-t3375934/page6 don't forget to hit thanks!!!
1. Start from stock B170 firmware with TWRP ready
2. Extract BOOT, CUST, RECOVERY, SYSTEM from B321 UPDATE.APP
3. Add firmware .zip file (which contains META-INF folder and UPDATE.APP) and place it into internal storage
4. Make sure internal storage data is fully backed up
5. Delete All Accounts in Settings
6. Go to Recovery, Wipe Cache, Delvik Cache, Data, System
7. Flash that .zip file! (Getting errors is okay at this time) [This is what I didn't do before!]
8. Boot straight to bootloader
9. fastboot flash boot, cust, and system
10. let it boot. Let it proceed with encryption process in chinese and fully boot into EMUI
11. NOW I'M AT EMUI 4.1!
12. Reboot to fastboot and fastboot flash insecure_boot and flash TWRP
13. Reboot to recovery (TWRP) and then flash whatever rom you want to place in!
14. Enjoying it!

So I unbricked with B170 and then tried force flashing B321. My first attempt at flashing B321 ended up getting stuck at 5%. Tried flashing again and it said it was incompatible with the current firmware version of my phone. Any ideas on what I should do next?
Edit: Nevermind. I mistakenly copied the UPDATE.APP from B170 to the dload folder instead of the one from B321. lol
Now on B321. Thanks!

Don't know which ROM you used to unbrick.
But seems that you used an B321 if that worked for you and you have no problems then that is great.
Could mean that wet can unbrick straight with the most current ROM available. If someone else could confirm?

Bootloader has to be unlocked. You can unlock best with DC unlocker, it's fast and only costs around 5 dollars.
Unless you already have your unlock code then you can unlock following instructions see my first post

What are you trying to do? Unbrick or update?
The folder has to be created in internal storage

No fuss debrick/restore your Mate 8!

Whatever you did to brick your device!
Whatever crazy thing you did to make this beauty a brick!
Next time, please don't waste time and money (dc-un...)
:crying:
First relax, take a deep breath in and smile. This method restored few phones and can be tried on every Huawei phone.
Second, hold volume-down+power and connect USB via PC. Means enter "bootloader"
Then pick up any old stock firmware of your region from this thread
Third unzip and rename folder to suit your model.
Fourth FASTBOOT.EXE FLASH ZIP UPDATE.APP and take a cup of tea or beer. Let all the error messages pass of.
Fifth, remove your ext_sd card and copy this extracted folder into root directory.
Sixth FASTBOOT.EXE REBOOT
It won't boot but will surely go to recovery, factory reset. Reboot.
Seventh, here is the main thing, hold volume-up+power till recovery shows updating
Eight, allow to update and get into the normal mode.
You will get your HUAWEI MATE 8 working in mint condition.
If this works, press the thanks button and rate this thread 5 stars.
All the best.

Another simplistic method if you are able to boot to your working rom.
2846579
Manufacturers port
Check your region
Then fastboot flash recovery recovery.img of existing 4.1 or 5.0 Rom.
Reboot.
Sdcard dload
2846579
Sdcard upgrade
And you are back to stock.
Do whatever you want to do, mate, but dont flash nougat rom this month!
Thanks. Will come in handy.
Think for yourself. Question authority.
This method also locks your bootloader without a trace of relock bootloader

Hi there! Thx for the instructions but unfortunately it's not working as intended.

Then the device reboots normally after FASTBOOT REBOOT
Does the bootloader need to be unlocked?

Thx in advance

Thx for the quick reply.
I did all that, but the only options i get are:
- normal recovery with reboot, factory reset and wipe cache
- or eRecovery when still connected to USB with the option to connect to wifi and download the latest package, which fails.
Other than that it's just a normal factory reset and the B320 Firmware boots just fine and welcomes me with the first start wizard.
My device is not really bricked. I just want to downgrade, maybe that doesn't work this way.
Also after the FASTBOOT FLASH ZIP UPDATE.APP there is:
...
writing zip..
FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)<--- this makes me wondering somethings not right, is it? This should at least work?
finished. total time: 12.077s

Will try this after my Honor 8 gets charged.
It was bricked when updating from B162 (MM) to B320 (Nougat). Booting logo is the only one I could get, unless entering fastboot mode with holding vol- plus power keys when connected to a running computer. Three buttons (the above two plus vol+)results in bootloop as well.
Battery gets depleted unless charging when in fastboot & rescue mode. I'm going to charge it now (again).
BTW DC-Un... showed it was on B162.

Help. have anybody succeed downgrading from emui5 to 4.1?

i mean .. i tried everything
but.. still i stock on this ugly thing
can anybody help me?

It's not as complicated as you might fear, stick with this and we'll get you back to 4.1
You have to be using EMUI 5's stock recovery for this to work, if you don't have it anymore use the Huawei update extractor to pull it and then install it via fastboot.
Then place the update.app file from the 4.1 firmware you want to roll back to into a folder called dload in your internal storage's root directory.
Turn your device off and hold VOL+, VOL- and power at the same time, it should enter dload mode and automatically start updating. when it is done you should be back to 4.1
You'll need to re-unlock your bootloader and reinstall TWRP for 4.1 but that should be it
any questions?

Ok, so you should already have it, unless you installed some form of TWRP since updating to EMUI 5.
If you don't have the stock recovery anymore:
extract the EMUI5 rom zip that you flashed to update to your desktop
download this tool on to your computer
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2433454
run it and hit the "..." button, this will open a new window, find the update.app file that you just extracted and select ok.
This will bring up a list of files one will be called recovery, right click it and click extract.
Then in fastboot mode:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
let it run and you should have the stock recovery back again

Ok, so you should already have it, unless you installed some form of TWRP since updating to EMUI 5.
If you don't have the stock recovery anymore:
extract the EMUI5 rom zip that you flashed to update to your desktop
download this tool on to your computer
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2433454
run it and hit the "..." button, this will open a new window, find the update.app file that you just extracted and select ok.
This will bring up a list of files one will be called recovery, right click it and click extract.
Then in fastboot mode:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
let it run and you should have the stock recovery back again

help | DOWNGRADE TO MM | brick

Okay, so :- :crying::crying::crying::crying:
I was on nougat and went to downgrade and followed ALL instruction apart from one - which was something I missed with translate until i visited the htc page for the tenth time trying to fix this.
:silly: :crying: ----- I didnt change default location whilst running nougat -----:silly: :crying:
I flashed the c432 oem file, and I have tried to update to b151, b150 and b161 all through the update.app method. to no avail.
I have tried flashing everything manually through adb pushing AND fastboot after using the extractor and everything works EXCEPT the system.img. I am faced with an error telling me it has failed, 'unable to mount /system' - - - This message comes through regardless of what I do and im panicking
PLEASE HELP I AM SO STUCK

It is written, on htcmania, using c432oeminfo and b130.
so,
Code bootloader
Twrp meticulus.
Install c432oeminfo.zip, power off
Restart dload c432b130.

Yes, I noticed that from time to time, in bootloader mode, it is written unlocked, but as the device bootloop (bug) I believe it too. so
I retype systematically the bootloader code to open.

If you have your bootloader unlocked (if you don,t have it, unlock it) and flash TWRP. After that, flash B130 for your VNS-L31. Done.
Unlock yor Bootloader again. And try flashing again.
Have hade the same problem. My bootloader showed unlocked, but he was not.

Shut down your device. Press the switch off for 10 secounds.
When the phone is off, swith on and same time with vol + without usb-kabel, and otherwise try it with usb-kabel.
When you stock recovery starts. You can try a factoryreset.
When you Revolution recovery starts flash oem.info again and perform the dload methode with your right MM UPDATE.APP.

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
extract this files with: Huawei Update Extractor from your Original UPDATE.APP
system.img is loading in steps and need much time.

I need to remove twrp recovery and install stock recovery image
How I can do this gra ul10
Hello! You would be willing to change the ROM?
Uh oh. This reminds me 1 year ago when I had your same problem . The process is simple:
1. Get the UPDATE.APP file wich is no more than all the stuff for the P8 wich includes the recovery. You should find it on emui.huawei.com
2. To see what's in there you need a tool called "Huawei Update Extractor". Just look for it
3. You do the same process for installing TWRP but with the image file "recovery.img"
And you're done
PS. Do a full backup with TWRP just to be sure. To restore it just reflash TWRP and use the restore function
You could flash the original recovery via fastboot if you have a backup of it as raw image.
Or well what @Rome7643 mentioned works also. I submitted a profile for the gra-l09 for the update extractor.
command is like "fastboot flash recovery <path/to/recovery.img>"
There is recovery and recovery2. One of them comes up when usb is connected one when it is not connected when triggering the recovery boot.

Download the UPDATE.APP from a recent stock rom, use the Huawei Update Extractor, then flash the recovery/recovery2 partition with the recovery.img/recovery2.img.
Like "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" in fastboot mode.
This will only override recovery.
Note that recovery and recovery2 is the same but one triggers only when the usb cable is connected.

Please, next time you should be more careful when downloading the file UPDATE.APP or update.zip ! I guess you downloaded one from Huawei P9, but for sure it's not for Huawei P8 !
After you unpack update.app there should be RECOVERY.img and RECOVERY2.img along with others partitions images.
Good luck !
