Has bixby/all in one gesture method been broken by an update? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

My last S8+ worked fine but on my newest (Newest update) S8+ when i try to add a custom key bixby opens but no key is ever added to the list in order to customize it. Anyone else experiencing this?
Thanks
Dave

everyone experiences this, they've hidden the keycode in an update a few days after release.
in the themes/apps section here there are several alternatives which detect bixby launching instead of the actual keypress, they'll still work.

Well that sucks. I did use an alternate but i just liked that method the best.

[Q] QuickDesk/Itching Thumb and the DX to work with double-tap

Ok, so this has been really bothering me that i cant fix this myself..so i came for help.. I like both the Quickdesk Beta and Itching Thumb as a kind of in-between for LauncherPro and just getting to apps/widgets, while still in-app. The problem with Droid X is that theres no way to set a third-party app as the default function. Im more interested with getting Quickdesk to work, because that is what i can see myself using more.
I have tried the workarounds that is on the quickdesk site, or where ever the link on it sends you (using titanium backup to freeze the default app you choose for double tap, so nothing would happen except launch quickdesk). The problem with this is that after the first home button press, it exits the current app, to your launcher, then opens quick desk. I have seen/tried the other method using SQL Editor, which i think is the proper route, but dont understand the proper input style. (<Program>/<Activity>)...i do know that the file for quickdesk is (sg.ruqqq.quickdesk) and have tried that, but i think something else is needed for the proper function of it. If someone can point me in the right, more specific direction, it would be greatly appreciated..Thank you
And yes i have searched around and done extensive research first

[Q] Home button event

I thought this topic might have ever been discussed before.
However, I tried to search the solution in the site but none of any i found. Prob I missed something.
I was tring to override the home button event. What I intended to do is to block the home button event(return back to the main page of default Android) and run my launcher home instead.
For example, if you wanna do the button test application on any android based device, home button needs to be handled.
Eventhough Android official website has announced that the developer is unable to override home button event, I still notice that some developers has completed this activity.
What I found so far is some developers add
<meta-data android:name="android.dock_home" android:value="true"/>
this line into their Androidmanifest and they say that's all they did for blocking the original home page.
I did the same procedure, however, it did not work well on my side.
Probably some of you have the experience on hadling this matter. Please share your experience so that I can follow up to get this issue done.
Any reply is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
There is an app that remaps keys. perhaps you can take a look at it? You can find it on a post on the desire oxygen rom.
Xda app
You cant override the home button, but you can establish yourself as a replacement for the launcher. If you do that, the user will be prompted with a list of apps that can act as the launcher when they press home

Button remapper

Is there any way for me to remap the hardware keys on the S5? There's a really old app that does this floating around the forum, but it doesn't work for us on the S5. I tried editing a few system files too, but that didn't work either. Having the menu button replaced with the multitasking view is driving me crazy - I know I can long tap it for the menu function, but I'm just so used to having the menu button there. There's a few other things I'd like to do as well, like change GNow to come up when I double tap home, multitasking to come up when I long tap home, and change the multitasking button back to the menu button like it should be. Most importantly, I would also like to get rid of the 3 dot menu button that shows in most of the apps (like Chrome for example).
Any takers?
Supposedly the Xposed Additions will do most, if not all of what you need.
i'm actually trying to do this myself right now. you need to install XposedBridge first for the Additions to work.

I use Xposed with Gravitybox, works great.

Thanks, I'll take a look at GravityBox. On a side note, does anyone know of a possible alternative without using Xposed? Xposed is great, but in my experience, it makes the system just a bit more bogged down. It's not a serious impact, no, but I have had some stability and battery problems in the past. I'll probably go with GravityBox for now, but any other alternatives would be great
Thanks for the help though!
So.... I tried GravityBox, but unfortunately the hardware key options are very limited. I still couldn't get the regular menu button functionality back, as I only had long-press and double-tap options. Hopefully someone will come along soon and restore the menu button, because I can't be the only one who wants to see it back...

Hmm.. I didn't have any issues changing the recent button to work like a menu key.
I think you're missing something here...

Oh wow. I can't believe I missed that. I assumed it was using the menu key and the recents key interchangeably, so I didn't scroll down to see the recents option.
Silly me
All that's left to do now is to get rid of this pesky menu in Chrome and other apps..
Hey guys... can someone point me to a guide? Xposed doesn't work on Lollipop yet. (If I am not mistaken) so I cannot use gravity box for it either.. How did you do it @BJSerpas ? On which version of Android?

Stop the home button waking the display up

I like my new S7 Edge, but I wish the home button wouldn't wake my phone display up when it's in my pocket: I don't want it to wake the phone up under any circumstances, after all there's a nice button on the side to do this . I had a web search, and found a number of suggestions to the effect that it's easy if it's rooted. But NO actual descriptions of how to do it. My phone is rooted and working well on Nougat using this excellent ROM:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/android-nougat-7-0-beta-1-rom-test-t3498664
I had a search in XDA too, but have still found nothing to suggest how I can do this. Can someone point me in the right direction please!
So no one knows? Somewhat astonishing. There are guides on how to do this on older Galaxies by remapping the keyboard tables but it would appear that the way these work has changed in Nougat. There is no HOME KEY WAKE, or anything like it, in the /system/usr keyboard tables. Key 143 in generic.kl says 'WAKEUP' and I've tried commenting this out, but there is no observable difference in behaviour.
I assume the function has moved elsewhere but I'm surprised that no one on XDA now knows how to mod this!
im looking for that too, cant find a solution.

New Navigation Gesture Missing On My T-Mo 6T

I just read the review of the 6T posted on XDA. It mentions the new navigation gesture for the phone; swiping up and to the right opens the previous app. It is not available on my 6T. I have been using the double tap recent button version of this on Android and find it very useful. Not having either version is why I am not using gestures and installed Smart Launcher on day one. Is anyone else missing this feature?
BTW I am also missing the new smart boost.
TMo doesn't have the latest update.
Well that explains it. Didn't think there would be updated before the phone was even released.
Thanks!
