LG G6 users, is the camera a lot better than the Note 4? - LG G6 Questions and Answers

Hi folks, heading out today to get an LG G6 to replace a Note 4. I've really enjoyed the note 4's camera, still takes excellent shots.
Is the LG G6 camera setup a whole lot better? A lot better? A bit better? l'm sure someone out there knows
Thanks for any comment... Cheers!:highfive:

I had the Note 4, which yes had a great camera, that being said, for me, the G6 is appreciably better IQ wise, especially in lower light, F1.8 really helps. See the attached photo at 1200 iso which I think is really impressive and way beyond what the Note 4 would have achieved IQ wise at 1200 iso. And another more normal photo with great detail. That's my 5 cents, hope it helps.

Very nice! I'm a sucker for flower and pet pictures- Love shooting 'em around the house :highfive:
These were from my old note 4, but will have the LG G6 tomorrow.
Caught me a bee at work in the first one. The closeup shot you got was really sharp and good looking.

I love it for the most part. The wide angle sucks if you're taking landscape shots. Stupidly panorama can't be done with the camera IMO the correct orientation. It has to be held up and down. Can't hold phone side ways. That's my only gripe honestly.

With a clip on macro lens

the wide angle is actually fine, one must remember its getting almost double the scene with the same 13 mp hence the photos looking softer (less detail), take your P&S camera and take a photo at 45/50mm and then zoom out to 24mm while standing at the same place and take another photo then look at each at 100% you'll see exactly the same thing, same amount of megapixels covering a lot more info...

Hi
I got a new LG G 6 4 days back.
The picture quality is pathetic. Its blurry and pixelated 99.99% pictures clicked in all conditions are going wrong, day light, artificial, auto manual, dual cam, single cam.
any idea what is wrong.
I have read many reviews and videos and am sure that pic quality is bound to be better but unable to figure out.
Currntly using PIXEL XL and iphone 6s.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Vs Nikon D5000 DSLR

Samsung Galaxy S3 Vs Nikon D5000 DSLR
Why?
I have a week off this week and while my fiancee is working, I thought I wpould charge my camera battery and have a practice. I am a really amateur photographer. By that I mean I own a nice DSLR (Upper Entry-level) and a couple of lenses but I've never really taken much time to get used to it. Today was a great oppurtunity.
Whilst I started taking snaps, i thought "Wouldn't it be cool if..." and here we are.
Disclaimer - Scientific conditions.
Mode:
Whilst I am only an amateur, I am familiar with my camera and its modes. Although I usually shoot in manual mode, adjusting the aperture and shutter speed as I see fit, for a reasonable degree of accuracy, I decided to use Auto mode. This is also what I used on the SGS 3.
Where as I tried to maintain Automode, I did slip into landscape mode a couple of times on the DSLR. Unfortunately I do not recollect which images were taken in each mode. It was mostly Auto though.
Zoom:
I stuck to my 18-55mm lens on the Nikon and used digital zoom on the SGS3. Although these can never be compared, as this is more a "look what the SGS3 can do" thing, I didn't think that should matter.
MegaPixels:
I set both top their top resolution. The DSLR is 12MP so obviously the detail is better when shown on a huge billboard. On a screen which is smaller than that, it shouldn't be noticable. remember, a HD display (1920x1080) is less than 2.1MP
Galaxy Resolution - 3264×2448 pixels
D5000 Resolution - 4310×2868 pixels
Image format:
The SGS3 takes images in .JPG format by standard. The DSLR took them in .NEF (Nikon RAW) and was converted afterwards. Converting RAW to .JPG on a computer (I used UFraw command line tool on Linux) gives a little bit better quality than letting the camera save as .JPG directly
Conclusions
Obviously this test was just for fun and was never intended to show that the SGS3 would be better than an upper entry level DSLR which even now, 3 years after release, can cost upwards of £500 GBP with a basic 18-55MM lens. Well guess what?! It's not better than the DSLR but hey, we never expected it to be.
What you can tell from the images is that where some of the DSLR images were a bit dark in auto mode, the SGS3 had some nice and bright shots. You can clearly see the difference in quality on some shots, but in others, not so much. I was very surprised at how well the SGS3 took pictures and how nice some of them did look, even compared to the superior DSLR, some of the pcitures the SGS3 took looked nicer, if not better.
Slightly related, but the experience of previewing the image taken was MUCH more enjoyable on the SGS3 with its bright and vibrant screen. You can instantly tell if the image will come out blurry or not, which with the DSLR was really tricky. You cna onyl really check if the photo is framed as you expected.
All in all, the SGS3 is a fantastic little camera. It may not be able to keep up with the big boys but it was never intended to. I would never be disappointed whipping it out of my pocket to capture an "of the moment" photograph. I am very impressed.
Further diclaimer
As mentioned, I am not a photographer. I am sure there are others out there who can do much better than I did with both devices. Remember this is just for fun.
I haven't scientifically analysed the outputs of both devices and used any software or anythign like that. If anyone is into that, please feel free to post results here. I would definitely be interested. All I have done, is used my eyes.
The Images
Each photo tells you if its SGS3 or Nikon from the properties but essentially, the first image is always the SGS3, the second is always the D5000

I think it's good. I'd love to see comparison results!
I think it's a Inovative idea to Compare s3 and slr but really a daft comparison
The whole point of an slr is control, and whether Full frame or cropped and the list goes on. Quality of sensor.
As much as the s3 has a reasonable lens it is no comparison to a good slr or even a simple slr.
I've been am-tog for over 25yrs from good old 110 days, 35mm film, med format and digital.

It is a daft comparison. The real aim was to show by removing the element of control, given that the lens and sensor are not of the same quality, the s3 really isn't that bad at all.

[REQUEST] Real world photos

I'm toying with the idea of getting one of these cameras, maybe it's a bit too soon to ask but, can some of you with the camera, post some photos you've taken with it, real world photos from actual owners and not just press shots.
Not really fussed if you've used the built in apps for editing the images you post, as it will just add to the "things you can do with this device" I just want to get the opinions from actual users who have spent their hard earned cash on it and get their points of view about their experience with it, what the performance is like, how good/poor is the daily use image quality of the camera like, whether you think it was worth the £399 etc... etc....
TIA.

I've bought the camera on the very first day of availability, 7th November, directly in London's Samsung flagship store at 5pm when the boxes were brought in I might be the first to have bought the camera officially...
However, on my Flickr account I've collected some pictures that I've made since then.
The lens is amazing, the CMOS chip not so, zooming into pictures details become just a mess of pixels. Or should I say mash?
But it's just a point-and-shooter and it does very good pictures at low light. Unless you don't zoom in too much, that is.

That's your decision... but both of them are not comparable to the Galaxy Camera in my opinion as they don't come with Android/touchscreen/3G.
I think only somebody who really wants those features will buy the Galaxy not because of its picture quality, which is good but far from perfect.

I'll post a whole bunch of shots and comparisons to my S5 around 8-9 est if all goes well. I did notice that reds were a bit over saturated in the samples I took at Verizon. Which was a big issue for me with my original Moto X.

Looks damn good, if people complain about that then they just need to use a DSLR.
Here is a couple from today....
Are these being alerted when uploaded? I assume they aren't 21MP files being uploaded to the forums
I think the problem is people have crazy expectations. Its a good camera but its never going to touch a dedicated camera with large sensors. I'm now switched to Google Camera because Moto one doesn't really seem to be much better.
These are using Moto camera still.
Low light shots I took while messing around with our prototype mini 3D printer this morning. Just quick snaps, no effort at all... Pretty impressive, although reds seem to be a little off -- oversaturated.

I'd have to say with the physical limits of sensor and aperture size the output is pretty decent and not overly over processed. A raw output would still be nice though.

Z3 camera worse than Moto G 2014?

Today I tested canera performance on my Z3 and my brother's Moto G (2014). The result scared me a little. I hope it's just me who thought the moto G ones were more vivid... what do u guys think?

It looked more like the z3's pics. The Moto saturation is a little high.
Yes, sadly.
Try the Camera FV-5 apk. Not that any particular app makes the pictures look better but it gives you a DSLR complete control feel to it. Also the Aviary apk (free) has some nice simple touch ups for pictures.

Whats wrong with the pics?
The Moto pictures look as said saturated blurred and low in quality.
The camera of the Z3 is the best one I ever had. Even in low light enviroment it makes awesome pics.
Compare some pics in the evening when u are watching tv with lights out and be happy to have a phone with such an awesome cam.
The Cam and the Display are the 2 things that keeps me away from installing CM.
If u want more colors play a bit around with the special effects f.e. hdr.

So, I wasn't there but this is what I interpret the pictures as.
The Moto G pics aren't really over-saturated, they just lack dynamic range (difference between dark vs light areas). They essentially tuned the sensor so that if this sort of thing happens, it chooses the brighter side of the scene. The leaves and darker areas can't be recorded as dark as they actually were, so it chooses to make the overall picture just brighter. Sony does a much better job of capturing the light areas such as the concrete and also the darker shades and leaves. The other difference is white balance, the Sony chose something a little cooler, and the Moto warmer. Without being there, tough to say which is more accurate but from the pics I'd say the Sony got it right.
Easy fix, force the Sony to overexpose or use something like pixlr to boost exposure.
Second picture is much of the same, the thing that jumps out is the red colors. In the moto it looks orange, in the Z it looks much more red. Again, if I had to guess the Z got it right.
Now, this is all great with plants, rocks, and garden hoses, but what happens when you take a picture of people? Those Moto pics are going to look off, like people's faces look like cake and lack the proper color it needs.

Seriously what is wrong with you guys.
Have you ever used an high quality cam?
In every shop there are phones where you can test them.
There are more tests in the net as you could ever read in your lifetime.
So if you don't like it don't buy it.
Should sound familiar as an iPhone user xD
Have just done a few shots but I'm sure you can save your favorite settings.
If this is too mich work to do I would suggest to sell your Z3 and buy an Moto or similar and stop annoying us.
I personally think the z3 camera is one of the best out there not hard to use manual mode
Sorry. I should've quoted the person who said that that he prefeerd the more vibrant colors over the more accurate. I meant that if you want it more vibrant you should edit it so and let the original photo be correct.
I use 8MP on manual it does well, it's just "Superior Auto" that sucks.

The Z5 takes pretty awesome shots and its way better then the z3 camera. The colors look so much more correct and in some phones it beats the sgs6.

the red on the iphone looks washed out or better said, the amount of light on the car is captured more on it. the z5 captures the real color from my perspective
In my opinion Z5 is better than Iphone 6+ and GS6, colors of the 2 is slightly saturated.
Regardless of color accuracy, the resolution increase still does not helps getting sharper images. There is too much noise reduction applied, especially compared to iPhone 6. Apple here does a decent job although I'd rather have much more noise and no NR applied in camera. Worst offender is LG, which applies an insane post-NR sharpening.
I think we should wait for production samples and hopefully some 3rd party app that can leverage better on this new sensor. Otherwise there is no real advantage against Samsung or Apple.
As for color accuracy, it really comes down to the app and how much processing is done. On my screen (which is calibrated, but it's not best quality panel) and to my eye Z5 has decent overall color rendition, but I prefer the G4 in the first picture (less punch but the overall colors are more accurate) and the iPhone in the third.
In the end, we are not yet at compact camera level - maybe next iteration (z6 or z7 or whatever they will call it). I'd really love to have an RX100 performance squeezed into a phone
Found a site with more samples pics from the Z5 vs note 5. http://www.eprice.com.tw/mobile/talk/4523/4953454/1/rv/sony-xperia-z5-compact-review/ Its a close call but Z5 wins when its shoots a photo in the dark tho.
All photo's on the left side are made by Z5 and right side is the note 5

Found a site with more samples pics from the Z5 vs note 5. http://www.eprice.com.tw/mobile/talk/4523/4953454/1/rv/sony-xperia-z5-compact-review/ Its a close call but Z5 wins when its shoots a photo in the dark tho.
All photo's on the left side are made by Z5 and right side is the note 5

Am I the only one seeing that low light photos look good on Note 5. Specially the example you gave, Note 5 has more details compared to Z5. Yea we all know that Samsung dose produce more warmer pics which makes the photo looks yellowish, but if you take a closer look the noise reduction is so aggressive in Z5.

P.S: Ah no wonder you seem to mix up the two photos. Note 5 indeed do look better here.
Sony for some reason still cannot make a good camera. Note 5 does look much better in almost every situation.
Also look at the sky in that one pictre. Z5 completely burnt while Note 5 shows some nice detail

These pictures looks awesome. and yea it got lotta details too. We need further tests to see how it's done. Since they can always get it right with software.
New camera module absolutely promising. Specially colour accuracy.

Think its time you get some glasses bro. The first one and clearly the best low light photo is made with the Z5 not the note. Even if you zoom in on the billboard etc you see that the note blurs and has to much overexposed. But both are good camera's tho/.

WOW those pictures look indeed pretty awesome!!! But they are taken by a pro tho with a tripod.
I am a Sony Fan But i Must admit the samsung note 5 is killing sony camera what a poor detail in z5 i hope there is improvement in the last release
Yea Note 5 has a great camera indeed, but I am pretty sure this is related to Software, and eprice device doesn't have the latest camera UI that means it's not running on the latest build, so untill then we can't really say which is better.
But overall Sony has good colour accuracy when it's day-time, I hope it'll be fixed with updates. I really want is more control over the camera such as Manual shutter speed and raw. Hope to see more improvement before the phone's released.
Sony has never been good at software, just hardware. It's just a... Mystery

+1
Specially when it comes to Camera software they don't seem to be doing great.
I am always surprised that despite making good cameras and selling camera parts to other phone manufacturers, Sony phones have the worse cameras in the mobile phone industry. The Z3 camera is terrible relative to Apples and Samsungs and their previous phones were even worse. Hopefully they finally fix it with the Z5.
Wow....
