I forgot to mention that In addition to all the improvements, BLU have confirmed that their New R1 PLUS also adds a Gyroscope sensor (that was missing in the old BLU R1-HD) for all the Pokémon Go enthusiasts as well as support for many VR headsets.
The R1 PLUS will be shipping with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, with a planned upgrade to 7.0:

I really dont mean to rain on your parade of a 100$ 3GB Ram awesome remake of what i loved about the Samsung Note 3, But BLU has a absolute horrible track record of keeping promises. . Like they said they promised they would upgrade the R1 HD to 7.0 but we have to use broken LineageOS versions for that. They made about 4-5 promises about the R1 HD and the only one thats been true is that they made the device itself. I have literally never seen BLU push an update to a device that actually added features or upgraded Android. The only ones ive seen were bugfixes for the Vivos and a december 7.4.2 patch to keep modders from SPFT'ing their Amazon R1s *. Sorry man but that promise is a joke **.
* To anyone who doesnt know. They released this patch because developers were using a tool called "SmartPhone Flash Tool", Or known in this community as "SPFT". They could flash other firmware similar to using TWRP, Basically they found a way to flash the non prime BLU R1 HD to the R1 HD with ads, effectively removing them, and they figured out how to root and install TWRP, opening the world to other such stuff like Cyanogenmod (never released, however) and Xposed modules.
** They already have 7.0 ready to OTA devices they choose, but they dont because they want to push it to devices like the Vivo and flagship devices. Basically its marketing, but shame BLU.. shame..

Oh wow , you got me,.
I just ordered it.
Hope it lives up to it predecessor

10033859, since I currently have 2 BLU R1-HD waiting for the promised Android 7 that never came, I totally agree: BLU has a absolute horrible track record of keeping promises!
MrMazak, I just also ordered it...
So, I also hope it lives up to it predecessor and that BLU will updated it to Android 7, because I really think they will be forced to update it, if BLU wants to continue selling this phone, and also compete with similar cellphones that already bring the Android 7 pre installed...

So, this device will be completely locked down from the start? My guess splash tool is not able to work on this device, so no root.
If not locked down, and Blu has switched cameras, you all should be set on building and porting roms, if same camera as original R1HD, nothing was gained.

I'm gambling on the fact that because it had no option for ad version it might be just like the rest of the blu line-up. and be developer friendly.

Wasn't the non ad R1HD also locked down with an update?
Anyway good luck, phone seems like a good buy, as long as bootloader can be unlocked, if not, not really a good deal.
Seeing you bought one, we will all know soon enough.
By the way, my Life Max never received it's promised Android 7 upgrade, neither will this phone.

i didnt see anywhere yet where it was promised, Only reference i saw was a comment from someone who said "a blu rep told them so"
and its too bad that its a flash sale. and no way to know if it is unlock-able, before sale is over.

Too bad there isn't an amazon prime version at a reduced price. The storage increase from 16 to 32, memory increase from 2 to 3 and bigger battery are all nice. The few reviews I'v seen indicate that the speaker isn't improved at all. And the price of the phone is now back to its normal $160. I wonder if they fixed the bug with the battery meter dropping 10% shortly after being taken off charge?
But it's more important to me to have a phone that I can root and run xposed and gravitybox on.
I'll wait and see how rootable this is. Besides, I have a second Blu R1 HD new in the box in case I break or lose the first one. It is sufficient for my needs.

It doesn't come with finger print scanner.
I thought it would.

Does it allow 2 att sims. 3g in each slot?

I haven't received my new BLU R1-PLUS yet, that will arrive possibly on Wednesday...
However, I am a little worried because, although this new BLU R1 PLUS should have included a Protective Case, to many have complained that they have not received it inside the product box, and that also the Back Cover of the cellphone is PLASTIC, and NOT METAL as advertised according to Blu web site:
"The Case Back is Machined Aircraft Grade Aluminum"
Regarding the missing case Amazon has said the following:
" Alright so I do see it is suppose to come with that protective case. Unfortunately we do not just have the case for sale, but I can put a 10.00 promotional certificate on the account, that you can use on your next sold and shipped amazon purchase, so you can look for a case that may suite your needs"
Please, someone who has already received the R1-Plus, could tell us if have had any of these problems?

Some people has stated blu lied about the case being metal, it's plastic, also the gel case doesn't come with the phone either.
I am still waiting to see if they lied about it being 64bit.
People are also reporting lookout detected Trojans on the phone, so that will require root to disable or remove these Trojans.

Thanks for the information.
I have also noticed the same, luckily my new BLU R1-PLUS phone was sent yesterday and will arrive tomorrow...
I hope it arrives complete with all the accessories and with a METAL Back Cover or I am going to return it immediately.
The phone is currently in the hands of Amazon as "under review" because there are too many complaints of false advertising, and I know Amazon is giving a $10.00 credit for the lack of the protective cover, but how will amazon or BLU are going to solve the problem with the cheap Back Plastic Cover?
Are they going to send one of METAL as advertised, according to the "BLU R1-PLUS Sales Guide" from Blu web site:
"METAL BACK COVER
The R1 PLUS's battery cover was designed and machined out of aircraft grade aluminum.
BLU once again raised the bar of material technology and aesthetic quality with its design of the R1 PLUS..."
http://s536785483.onlinehome.us/salesguides/images/salesguides/r1-plus-sg.pdf

Review after review says back is plastic, so is this video review fake? Or did this guy get a phone with metal back?
The only bar being raised is how many lies this company will tell to sell a product, One can rule out getting android 7 upgrade now.
If a company sells you plastic but promises it's metal, will in no way keep their word to upgrade their device.
The early bird doesn't get the worm with blu.
If you get the phone for $100 it would be OK at that price, this phone isn't worth $160.
Plastic back drops $40 off of phone, no gel cover drops $10 off of phone.
$160 - $50 = $110 so phone is worth $110.

The following youtube video posted by BLU, clearly says that the phone has "Full Metal Housing Aircraft Grade Aluminum" (go to 1:48):
https://youtu.be/D7gImCS3q3I
Or this video was made with another model of phone, or was made to deceive the buyers and thus increase sales on the first day of the launch of the BLU R1 PLUS!?
I really do not know what Amazon or BLU is going to do about it, because either this would seem to be a gross marketing mistake or it seems like a big hoax, because it is not possible for BLU to advertise a product with METAL back cover and then send us a cell phone with a cheap plastic back cover!
It is as if we had bought a very expensive white linen shirt, and send us a red cheap one!
However, I totally agree with you: this phone would be a good buy for $ 110, but BLU should not lie to us announcing that it brings a full METAL back cover before it launch...!

Ordering Nexus 4 on Wednesday (feq questions)

Well I'll start off with saying how psyched I am about getting this phone regardless of what's coming out so far this year.
Believe it or not I've been using a badly cracked screen Xperia Play for 8 months and just haven't bothered with the mobile world since then.
I'm currently living in the UK and I have a few questions in regards to the Nexus 4 and general concerns.
How easy is it exactly to crack the screens front/back?
What case would you recommend for some one who is accident prone (nothing to bulky)?
How long did it take for UK customers to receive theirs after purchase? I'm getting the 16gb model and I went to checkout to check and they're telling me 1-2 business days?
Where can I get good wallpapers for it? I normally use Zedge but I had a nosey at their Nexus 4 walls and there isn't that many, I can just make my own or rescale other HD images but meh, I like looking for things I don't have.
In the UK do they need the micro sims? I ordered one anyway just incase.
Are there any apps that really stand out on the Nexus 4 for you?
Is it possible to root without boot loader unlocking it? Does it not come boot loader unlocked if ordered from the Google Play store?
Also is there any other cheaper method to have it display on A TV other than the slimport output http://www.amazon.co.uk/Slimport-HDMI-adapter-Connect-projector/dp/B009UZBLSG#lbhuc_854718
Are there any good speaker docks for nexus 4?

Hi. Mine came after 2 days (I ordered it at 11pm Saturday and it came in early Tuesday morning). I'm currently living in UK too. I had to order micro sim from O2.
Cheers that's good to hear lmao I hate waiting, too impatient.
I should have gotten my phone in 2 days as well but some f*** ups from TNT extended it to 4 days. It appears that i was unlucky though as nobody else reported issues with the courier service. It might only be my local depot. Anyways, get a TPU case from ebay. It should provide it with enough protection for lightish drops. I got a really nice, clear one with an s pattern on the back from ebay for 2 quid. I'm also still using the original film on the front and back. They're doing their job alright
Regarding the micro sim... Just take your sim card to any phone corner shop and they will cut it to the right size for you. They offered to do it for free in my case. Left them 50 pence tip
I just cut my sim manually with a pair of scissors

My Nexus 4 arrives tomorrow !!! I'm also coming from a broken Xperia Play, my screen just came unresponsive and then it stopped working. I'm not from the UK but lately google has been shipping this devices in the expected time if not sooner.
As for the case, I ordered the official bumper (looks awesome, in pictures at least...) and the Spigen SGP Ultra Dual from Amazon. I'll coma back tomorrow to post my initial impressions on the bumper an the screen protector, I hope it doesn't add too much bulk

that's a little tricky. I cut my counsin's sim successfully, but when I cut my sim, it didn't work...
Titanium Backup is good for... backup, if you are looking an useful apps for Nexus 4. I also use System Tuner to turn off some background-running and start-up apps, as well as watch the CPU's temperature. Another apps I use is BetterBatteryStats. You also need an apps like Solid Explorer (trial for 7 days), however there are many apps with the same function, and free. Topic for you http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1992163
The Ballistic is bulky based on people's reviews, but they say it provides quite good protection.
I have this case http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1992163, two layers, you can see the images and decide for yourself. If you want to see the back of your nexus, you can use the official bumper although some folks really dont like it because it provides nothing to protect the back. There is a case with a transparent back, the Ringkee or something, go to Accessories, that thread is quite hot there.
For the back and front screen. Becareful. dont drop it and it will stay in good condition. I recommend a screen protector to avoid scratches.
I dont know how it is easy to crack the phone. I take my phone everywhere in my jeans' pocket (not skinny ) and it 's still good now without a scratch.
Cheers Yea I ordered a micro-sim anyway I feel like changing my number as there is a few contacts I wish no longer had my number, not that they bother with me nor I with them, but just to make sure they don't
As for the second link, it's the same post (must have apps lol) what case? :S
Bumping the thread up! Can't wait to get this phone!!!!

For the Slimport adapter, you can at least save a few quid if you use the coupon code ANDROID3 at checkout on Amazon.co.uk. Saves you £3.
Ordered it this morning, shipped by 5pm GMT, could it come tonight?
I ordered mine at 2118 on a Monday night and I had it Tuesday morning... Can't complain
I don't have ant screen protectors or a case for mine - just need to be careful, just think a case ruins the look of the phone and I'm not willing to compromise

Some perspective

I bought the LG tab from Newegg when it was $249 because I watch Newegg for this kind of thing. If HP had gotten off the mark with their Slate 8 Pro I might have gone for that because 4:3 is good for reading. Yes it came unsealed. Yes it showed some marks of having been handled. I have no doubt whatsoever those smudges were due to handling during quality control, packing, whatever. If it cost another $1 to have the thing wiped down and covered with plastic front and back, they should have. No one's bought this thing yet. So there aren't many returns to ship. So I suggest to chill about returning the thing because it wasn't shrink wrapped. I bought an $800 LG HDTV and it wasn't shrink wrapped either. Good tv.
My g pad is just fine. Not too yellow, no blue line, piss poor sound from the speakers, good wifi and BT, complete Play Store compatibility. Nothing's perfect but it's fulfilled my expectations as to size, resolution, color, sharpness, wifi robustness, abd drivers, etc. etc.
Rooted from day one, which was within all of three weeks of availability at only two major retailers. Best Buy doesn't seem to know they have it. Newegg gave it away in spurts (unsealed!).
I've had this less than a week and already there's a stable fork of CM11. My precious Nooks (I have two running CM10.1) will be thankful for what they've got.
If I ever get fool proof restore after a flash, I'll be content for the nonce. I've tried Titanium and Helium multiple times and each of them hung so often during restore after a crash it almost wasn't worth the trouble to back up. (Google should take care of this, since privacy is not their problem).
Be that as it may. The LG g pad 8.3 GPE is *almost* worth $350. It would be an excellent Xmas present for someone who would appreciate it. Raise your hand if you're the only person you know like that.
But living in the world of Loki doki and flashify and *.lok vs *.img has been lots of fun so far. In my wildest CWM dreams I didn't think this weird Gangnam style tablet would introduce me to TWRP.
It's a good tablet about to become really good with Google's endorsement. Lucky us! Hey pretty lady!
$64,000 question. After six months of GPE availability, do the "original" g pads come back on the market at $250. I suspect LG overproduced which is why they called in their friends at Google to pull up the slack. Google can't discount their older products willy nilly so if there are too many of them will they put back the LG sw and sell it at a deep discount?
Begging the question, how does "vanilla" kitkat get on to the GPE devices? Does LG ship the units to Google who installs the rom and warehouses them or does Google send approved ROMs to the OEM who flashes them and sends the back.
Haven't seen any discussion of this in the uninformed speculation about the marketing strategies of two giant global companies.

Verizon to open their preorder 28th and they DO have leather & cheaper than BB

According to this Verizon will open prereg order direct tomorrow.
So as many of us know, Best Buy did not show the leather as being available only white, blue, grey. And they want $609 versus $550 direct from Verizon.
So, I might now bail on the Best Buy one I PO'd and order the leather one direct and forgo the $100 best buy gift card since I would have to buy the leather and since the VZW one is $59 cheaper + not having to buy a leather back, now the Verizon direct might be a better deal since I DO want leather.
BB = $609 + tax = 658.79 - $100 gift card = 558.79 + have to buy a leather back (60-80$ so say $60) = $618.79
Verizon = $550 + get leather (and maybe the plastic back I hope as some in the UK get a plastic when they buy the leather so 2 backs in 1 buy) - having to buy a leather back + less tax $44 = $593.98
OR.. maybe get BB to match the $550 price and then you are back to being ahead if you have to buy the leather back but I just called, and they say they do not price match... oh well. Tomorrow I decide if I keep the BB po or order the VZW direct.
ps - And these preorders will begin shipping before its in stores on Thursday, June 4 (which is when BB has earliest pickup).
I'm in the same boat... Lol... Finally pulled the trigger and pre-ordered from BB. But that leather is probably going to make me cancel too.... Choices.... Choices... Lol

Good for you for finding that. I looked at the time I posted on their site & that was not posted. I figured tonight @ 9pm I'd check as that would be the 28th on the east coast.
No matter who I order with - likely Verizon given my logic above - I'm all over the "freebies".
you can actually add the gray and white to cart on verizon. i was thinking about picking up a leather one. i also noticed tmobile leather and regular is same price as well
Ordered a black leather G4! With free 2-day shipping it should arrive 6/3 or 6/4.

I just did the same thing.
So now i have a BB preorder and a Verizon preorder 1 will get cancelled since the Verizon is set to ship 6/1 so maybe 6/3 or 6/4 delivery then I fully expect to cancel the BB preorder - the day I get the VZW phone - because as per above, the direct Verizon is a better deal IF you want leather - and I want leather.
Just cancelled my BB order. Getting the leather from verizon. Just a heads up... I had to call best buy to cancel... Online would not let me.
Or you can live in a state like me with no sales tax and still win leather back is useless unless you're planning on not having a case (which is just stupid).

Yes, it is the "black" one. And yes, they do not make it entirely clear and obvious, especially when on a mobile device.
Some might be able to find out today what we get in the box - and how the phone seems - since Verizon claims "select stores" will have them in shop to see as of today. My local shop did not.
Aw man and now they announce Android M!

The phone is here now, today. A new OS is always in the process of coming. We have no real idea when M will hit. I'll roll the dice now.

Lollipop has barely been adopted and pushed out to phones - atiny laughable 1.6% of Android OS usage - and now they are on to something else. This is part of the fragmentation downside of the Android OS. Most are still on KK and JB. Some might even end up skipping Lollipop usage actually. And even if this phone can support M - which I bet it can - that could be a year away (or more) based on M offical release and then, the provider prepping it for the phone and then pushing it. M? I couldn't care less about M right now.

I agree. My note 4 is on kitkat still and i have no issues with it. I feel no need to upgrade to lollipop yet.

Convince me not to refuse my moto x pure...

Ordered September 11th. Delivery was supposed to be today. Has been stuck on being built ever since then. Just chatted online and said maybe 23rd.
It's a 64gb black/black leather with dark silver accent.
Another reason I'm losing interest is moto finally put some cases online. Ugly. Spigen and Rearth aren't selling cases for this phone on amazon either. Moto isn't selling the power support screen protectors which have been my favorite but are sold for very few phones. (My company issued us 6+'S and power support was out of stock on smooth protectors so i got matte and they're still damn good). Rearth and spigen don't have screen protectors or cases available either. Little reason for me to get this phone if I can't accessorize it properly. What say you guys?
Seems like you already decided
It sucks refuse it..... Mine should be here by Oct 5. Can't wait

If accessories are the driving force in your phone choice stick with the iPhone.

Convince you to not return a phone you haven't even even gotten yet because you waited a week after they went on sale and now its taking too long to get to you? and their aren't enough cases yet? Go get an iphone
Accept it, play with it and rma it if you don't like it. I wouldn't send anything back without a rma. I ordered on the fourth early in the am and they still haven't even started building mine.

Stick with iPhone? Are you nuts? It was company issued iPhone. It's terrible. I appreciated ios's strengths, but now owning one, I hate Apple's ui even more. The ui isn't all it's cracked up to be, not simple like so many people proclaim, it's a cluster**** and performance is slightly above par with kitkat. Doesn't hold a candle to marshmallow. That being said, android still has it's downfalls, but nowhere near as bad as android.
And,yes , accessories are a must for me. I already worry about my big ass note4 at my job. A cracked screened or borked phone could happen any moment. Good thing build quality is up to par. Don't mind l metal frame, i still would prefer a nice ergonomic plaastic. The moto x is looks good. Looks like it can handle my job dangers easily enough. Hate the striped back though. Dimple looks too low. But the original moto x was awesome minus being too small. The moto pure is an almost perfect note4, minus s pen, taking a hit on low light camera shots and the reception should be badass. My note4 isnt a slouch with reception , but moto and Nokia are king in that area.
Yes I am upset it's late. Not a big deal. Would've been nice if they updated status to reflect that. The lack of proper cases and screen protectors pushes it past the edge of not being a keeper. My job is too rigorous and dangerous to humans and phones to go without protection . moto reps have no idea or clue when accessories become available. Am really looking forward to having 64GB internal and 128 or 200GB external sd card. Just frustrated they're botching the launch out the gate. Looking for reasons to go with it. Our iPhone 6+ are at&t, but reception is still lacking. Moto should make up for that with T-Mobile. T-Mobile is making a come up in coverage. I wish their RIL's were more aggressive with 700mhz band. I know moto is pushing an update to remedy that soon. Also, looking forward to somewhat more timely updates, which Samsung and carriers have bombed. Can't believe the other 3 carriers haven't pushed 5.1.1 yet. And Samsung phónes are notorious for less than desirable updates. Seems the initial firmware and subsequent updates to same #'ed firmware are the only polished firmwares. 5.0.1 is terrible. And for those that don't know, the beta marshmallow on nexus5 is great compared to 5.1.1. I really think a lot of people will really enjoy how polished marshmallow is compared to 5.1.1. For example, using power save mode on marshmallow doesn't gimp phones like 5.1.1. Still hate the color change though when using power save mode. Im sure xposed will address that in near future.
Anyways, the lack of desirable accessories is making me less anxious to get it. If I don't have proper protection I can't carry it to work or use as daily driver. Hoping someone makes a great case/sales pitch that I should stick it out and try/keep it. I do like somethings about tpuchwiz, but the bloat, overweight tpuchwiz, bad ram management and physical buttons are hard to bear with. If my htc m8 supported 700mhz I'd probably be rolling withthat. It's been deprecated to fancy music player and phone to use when my note4 is being charged early before going to bed.
Somebody, change my mind. I really loved the original moto x but it was just too damn small. Barely, and I mean barely bigger than iPhone 5/5s. Impressed a lot of people.
Wow. I ordered mine the minute it went on sale and I've had mine since the 11th. Interesting. But yes, if you are looking for accessories than get the iPhone. That is the only thing iPhone have going for them.

Came from oneplusone. No complaints here. Ordered, received earlier than expected. If you think moto fiasco is horrible, your in for surprise. I love it, love it, and love it. Where are the devs at? Can't wait for roms that will make this device real deal pure edition. Pretty good now, im pretty certain it will be one of the best. OnePlus 1 running temasek rom feels better than moto x pure stock rom. I can't wait and hope leaving OnePlus optimism stays that way.

I think this phone is excellent. I like the things that matter most - the display, camera and speakers. Battery is good for me also. I can't imagine buying a phone based on accessories. That would have no influence on my decision.
Time for you to go back in Orbit.
You clearly stated your needs and wants the Moto doesn't fit those requirements for you.
Time to move on.

Ordered mine on the 11th also. Delivery estimate was for today. Lol. Haven't seen any change since being built on the 12th. I haven't called to haggle them. I'm assuming it will be here next week. Black front, slate back, dark titanium frame and accents. 64gb.

Rearth just released screen protectors - http://bit.ly/1KnOfrJ
Stuff's coming out, slowly but surely.
If you need us to convince you, chances are you don't want the device.
If you're worried about screen protectors, I bought this one and it's very durable, and I can't even tell it's on my phone.

That being said, this phone is great! If you don't already feel good about the purchase though it will sour the experience as long as you own it. Return it if you don't feel good about it. At least someone will get it as a refurb at a lower price that will appreciate it that way.

Thinking about this phone versus the other Flagships

I'm on my G3 right now -- happily using a rooted stock-based ROM from our very own XDA. My battery life has been decreasing a while now for years, so I think it's just time to replace my phone.
I was excited for the Pixel 2's, but all the screen problems have me worried. I think I've narrowed down my choices to:
Pixel 2
Moto Z2 Force
S8
Essential Phone, with the Price Drop
So I'm wondering which do you think I should get? This is on Verizon btw. I'm really torn and love my G3 so I'm really hesitant to get fully convinced to buy one.
Pixel 2: Better camera, fastest android update and "exclusive" features. Many of which you can install apps to get those feautures and eventually google will make them public, just like the assistant last year.
Moto Z force: Smaller battery than the Essential but you have many mods available.
S8: Samsung bloat is just horrible.
Essential: Hardware and build quality is great but we have very limited accesories. Stock android out of the box is amazing, no need of custom roms at the moment.
Ok, so want a new phone coming from my current Nexus 6P, which I love, but battery issues, and the speakers have gotten bad, so need a new phone in the next month or so. I originally liked the Pixel 2 XL, but for $950 for the 128GB version, I find that outrageous, especially with the poor bad displays most are shipping with, and news today they are failing Quality Control tests from Google too now. I paid $499 for my 64GB Nexus 6P brand new from Google, to me the Pixel 2 XL is what a Nexus 8P could have been, and would have priced like $599 or so. Out of principle I won't give Google the cash for a Pixel. But let's not go there with this discussion.
- Essential @ $499 ( root and ROM's supposedly should start coming in November )
- OnePlus 5T @ ? $550 ? ( 6" display, fingerprint scanner on the rear, 18:9 aspect ratio. Officially announcement due soon )
I want a stock Android type OS, with good battery life, that will get me 6h Screen On time or more. I want a bright display, and smooth OS. I always root my phones, and maybe a custom ROM too. And I want the price under $600. So Essential or OnePlus 5T ?

I came from the 6p then HTC u11. I love the essential. I always root and flash latest and greatest but that is not available and we may never see a strong dev community. With that being said the essential is amazing stock. Between the one plus and essential I think it'll come down to preference. The essential looks and feels great while the one plus looks very Samsung like. I do not regret the 700 I spent on the essential and might cancel my pixel 2 xl order after seeing all the screen issues. But I'll for sure keep the essential

I think that we all are missing an important feature from Essential, mods. Yes, we only have on the moment but maybe in a few months essential and third party will bring great features to the essential phone using mods. That for me gives an advantage to the essential over OP5T, because software and hardware are almost the same.
Little worried buying one from Best Buy, scared it may be old original manufactured units, and the ones bought directly from Essential themselves would be newer manufactured phones, with fixes ?

I purchased mine form Best Buy yesterday and it seems fine. I haven't even looked at the speaker grill and I'm not going to. My phone seems perfect so far, and if something goes wrong in the future, I'll just send it to Essential. All of the problems I've had in the last month with other flagships, the Essential phone is a breath of fresh air.
Edit...This phone against other flagships. I would either get this phone or the OnePlus. But I chose the Essential because of the beautiful hardware, and big screen on a small frame.

There have been complaints about the speaker grill on older phones. Apparently Essential used a piece of fabric as the speaker grill. This fabric seems to be damaged easily. If you get a newer phone, this fabric has been replaced with a something else, maybe metal, I don't know. I'm not going to worry about it though. There have also been reports of the newer phones having tougher ceramic on the back, more scratch resistant. That is pure speculation though. I say don't worry about these things, and enjoy your new phone. If you have a problem later, surely Essential will fix it.

I see. Yes mine is definitely "metal" I'm guessing titanium? It looks no different than the rest of the side band.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. There is a thread with photos on Reddit about this. Essential was replacing older phones with new phones with an updated speaker grill, but now someone said that they are repairing the phones instead of replacing them. I don't think it's a big issue myself.

Edit...FYI, the speaker grill on last year's Pixel is also fabric.

My phone has the old style speaker grill, and I could really care less. I'm not sure why so many people think this is an actual issue.
