I've had my vibrant since August and lately I've noticed the charger is extremely loose. It wiggles left and right a lot and falls off very easily, has anyone else noticed this or is it just me??
I also have it with the charger that comes with the phone, good thing is i have another OEM charger.
I had this happen to my motorola cliq. hopefully its the charger cord and not the charge port on your phone...that would suck. Try a diff cord to see if that helps you out. Not to be a downer, but it was the port on my cliq...
A very small port (like our microUSB port) with a not so small cable lends itself to experiencing excess strain if you're not careful. This is the nature of small ports and the laws of physics.
I bought my Vibrant on craigslist so I can't vouch for the OEM cable, only have blackberry branded micro USB cables, and they work fine, very snug. So try a different cable, if its still just as bad it may be your port.

To be honest, tonight I woke up, my phone was lighting up telling me less than 15% left and I noticed the charger tilted downwards and didn't charge... Hmmmmm
You could go on amazon and find an external oem charger,it comes with an extra oem battery and i think it was like 30 bucks.

I too have had this issue. At first it was just the cable, as other MicroUSB cables had a more solid connection, but now it doesn't matter which cable I use, indicating the port in in the phone is at fault. I'm going to be asking T-Mo for a RMA because of it.
I just got a new OnePlus One over the holidays. I've noticed that periodically it was getting very hot when I was charging it, both when using a car and wall charger and multiple different cables. On Saturday night I left it on the charger overnight and in the morning the phone was melted around the charger cable! Check out the pics below.
Only thing worse is that OnePlus says that it's likely because I was using a 3rd party charging cable (from my Samsung Galaxy S3) so they won't provide a refund or replace it. But they will let me pay $350 for a new mother board. So I'm out $400 and a brand new phone.
Normally using a different cable and charger wouldn't have such an effect. I know many friends who use aftermarket cables and chargers built for different phones and their phones are fine so I take that cause with a grain of salt.
Having said that, did you do any modifications to the phone, whether it be software or hardware? When it was getting hot, did you do anything about it?

No, I just got it. Didn't root or anything. When it got hot I rebooted the phone .. what is strange is that it didn't seem to always overheat. But it happened more than once on different chargers and cables.
I've been using a Samsung charger and cable that came from a galaxy s4 on so many different phones and nothing ever happened to them. Even have charged my one plus one with it. It was charging very slowly so I just used the one it came with and it charges at full speed.
Try talking with a different person and not mention using a different cable and charger. Its definitely not because of that. You deserve a new one.

kinda like using a skill saw on one of those two dollar 12' household extension cords. everything gets hot.
It's really odd. The One itself uses a pretty powerful 2A charger :/

Thing is if a charger comes rated at a high output amp, they usually ship an appropriate gauge cable for it. I'm pretty sure Samsung would've shipped a 28/24AWG Micro-USB cable with a 1/1.5/2A (maybe not 1A) charger to prevent the wire from melting out. My guess is OP probably mixed cables with chargers. It's common to have multiple Micro-USB to USB cables these days given most electronics support. Most of the time these cables are 28/28 gauge. I am guessing OP used a 28/28 with a high amp charger (although the standard S3 charger seems to be rated at 1A from my search results). Seems like OP used the OnePlus One charger rated at 2A with a cable which was probably rated for 0.7-1A (that seems to be the standard S3 charger's output).
Can we get more info on what charger and what gauge cable was used OP?

I was just trying to bring the odds of this happening to my phone closer to nil with a possible scenario so I could sleep better tonight after leaving it on charge :silly:
Everybody got a phone charger and cable with their phone right? Why would you use some other cable or charger then? Especially now that it seems that its possible to have your phone melt with using 3rd party equipment, why would you still not use the charger/cable that came with the phone? To me thats like buying a truck, putting different wheels on it and getting pissed when something happens.

Convenience of not carrying that same cable everywhere? OP seemed to be using chargers at home and in his car, so it's easier to have a cable for each of those chargers.
Maybe the phone is defective. I hate it when OEM'S being cheap.

Hey, you can easily and realitively cheaply change the plastic back cover on the OPO. Just purchase an original back cover replacement from OPO. It comes in various colors and even in bamboo. If the metal plug is still ok and only the plastic melted, you should be ok and still have a 100% original phone.

Leaving it on charge overnight isn't good for the battery anyway, the more time a lithium battery spends at peak voltage (4.2v) the faster it degrades.

WHen you don't have the official charger/cable with you, I ALWAYS tell people to charge it via a computer USB port (0.5 A) instead to be on the safe side (with whatever cable you plan to use).
And never mix/match your USB cable/charger ports.
I have seen some comments and reviews that some USB-C cables are dangerous to use on our phones. Mainly the "Amazon Comment" from a Google Engineer who said that a particular USB-C cable could harm the device.
I am looking to buy some cheap Micro-USB to USB-C adapters for my current chargers, does anyone know if they are safe to use?

bummer, I don't need "fast charging" all the time so I'm ok with standard charging speed for the most part. However I certainly don't want to "harm" my device with a cable or adapter that is not properly engineered.
Most if not all of the cables he recommends are around $20 for just a cable. Craziness...
I don't think you will damage the phone, but there's a risk you will damage the other side, i.e. charger or computer port. Now frying a $10 charger is not a big deal as long as you are not setting the house on fire, but frying a computer USB port is a different story ... that's what I'm really worried about.

Based on the photos, it seems identical to the cable Google sells. Wouldn't be surprised if they both came from the same place.
My question is this: why are people buying all kinds of usb-c to other versions of usb cables? The phone comes with everything one needs to charge or plug into a computer. Unless everyone wants cables for every room in the house...?

The 6p comes with 2 cables already... One usb-c>usb-c and one usb-c>usb-a... So use the usbc/c cable for home and the usbc/a cable for travel.

Work, car, etc. I don't want to remember to take the charger/cable with me to work or in the car, I just want to leave them there. And the short cable that comes with the 6P is well ... too short. If you have a desktop computer sitting on the floor or want to charge from the wall or the car, it's just not good enough.

This has nothing to do with travel. and the c-a cable it comes with is too damn short to use for much beyond data transfer. Unless the USB a charger is literally plugged in right next to where the phone is going to sit.
I'm trying to figure out how this new charging thing works as far as the required cable/charger.

I have a charger from my old Galaxy S4 that is 5V-1A. When I plug the iOrange in that charger and to my phone, it will say "Charging" but will not steadily charge. What I mean by that is that it'll change states to charging, then it'll stop charging, over and over again.
Another charger I have is 5 V - 2.1 A. With the iOrange cable, this works fine. It will say "Charging."

I saw the same thing with an HTC 1.5A charger. It charges for a few seconds and then it stops. Not sure what's going on, you'd think that it could at least pull the 500mA or 900mA per the USB spec. Another Anker charger that I have works.

Somebody mentioned that we have all what is needed inside the box and that's true and all but thing is most people don't want to carry their cables/chargers with them wherever they go. I have at least two charger with cables in each room of the house. One in each car and one at work. Makes it convenient since micro-USB cables/chargers are so cheap. Now with USB-C its a different story. One these cables are not cheap at all and now we are learning most of them aren't even complaint with the specs. So it helps to have a tiny adapter to be able to use all the cable I already own with Nexus 6P.

Those damn cheap microusb to usb-c connectors and cheap large voltage chargers .. sheesh. I've had no trouble with mine but then again I have quality chargers and cables I bought for my 6P. My Note 7 doesn't even get warm when charging .. at least nothing noticeable.

It's not that it's unapproved. It's that they are using cheap cables and chargers. We went through this crap with the OnePlus3 and Nexus 6P. Cheap chargers and cables can do damage.
Well, from the looks of it. Even Anker who is pretty reliable issued a recall for almost all their usb-c cables.

You're probably right. My Note 7 gets pretty warm when using fast-charge. And batteries don't like heat. So, since I don't really need fast-charge when I charge my phone most of the time, I turned it off. Phone no longer gets warm when charging.
Besides, batteries will last longer without excessive fast-charging.

I use these with my Note 7 and Nexus 6P. Unless I just got lucky and got 6 good cables .. I use them everywhere .. work, car (Android Auto) and home .. then these are good. I highly doubt a USB-C cable that works brilliantly with the Nexus 6P would fry the Note 7. I've had mine for 12 days and when I hook the Note 7 up in my truck for AA it's charging as well and it never gets much warmer than if it were on the wireless Samsung charger.

Maybe something is wrong with yours. My Note 7 has been sitting on the Samsung wireless charger on my desk at 100% for the last hour. Since all this has made me paranoid .. I pick it up every so often and touch it to my face. It's not even lukewarm. I don't think fast charging is the issue with this. The guy in China who reported this which later was picked up on Reddit .. his cable was just some black microusb cable with a while adapter on it and no further info. If the cable was a piece of crap and he was using a cheap wall charger .. Samsung adapter or not I think this was the cause of the boom. I could be wrong but I don't think so. Like said about .. the usb-c cable/charger subject was discussed to death about the OnePlus3 and Nexus 6P (Macbook as well) .. and it's always the same thing. Don't use cheap junk. :good:

If your phone is at 100%, then it's not charging. Therefore, it won't be warm. When the battery gets low, 30-40% and it's on fast-charge, it gets very warm. I don't know about the wireless charger, but it's warm with the cable. Either way, I disabled fast-charge and no more warmth.
Are we far away from FW update limiting charge current? I turned off fast charging due to phone getting hot, which is not healthy for batteries, especially if those are hard to replace and I charge overnight anyway, but on some occasion I could be in rush to charge and fast charging is the solution and I want fast charge as option, but if things go like that, the easiest fix for Samsung would be to eliminate fast charge for now.
All phones should get warm while fast charging. S7 Edge did the same thing, so did the nexus 6p.
I charge mine with fast charging every single time.

If that cable delivers 20 volts designed for PC, to the phone designed for 9v max, that would double the amperage and quadruple total power drawn, I can easily see how that could burn the whole phone to crisp.
Going back to fast charge on N7, I'm sure it's well designed and the heat well within specs (it's even mentioned in manual), but the fact remains that higher operating temp of battery, the lower (slightly) life span of the battery. With battery sealed inside and rather difficult to replace I want to prolong it's life to maximum and if I charge overnight, which I do often, don't care if it even takes 6hrs. BTW if the faulty cable is the real culprit, it's a very good news and shipping of N7 should resume soon. It would be shame if such a good phone got bad reputation undeserved.

Actually, it's not. It was reported on quite a few sites that Samsung sourced the battery packs locally for it's variations. So the South Korean company that made the battery packs for the South Korean release is the one that is possibly the cause of all this hoopla. The few handsets out of the millions produced that have had issues with these crap cables and chargers have been in South Korea. None of the EU/NorthAm phones have been reported to have had this happen at all. Maybe unnamed sources that aren't Samsung themselves should be taken with a grain of salt. Maybe we should wait for an official statement from Samsung before running in circles and screaming the sky is falling. It's a thought.
I'm not saying it couldn't be a massive, global recall but based on the 30+ articles I've read .. most of which messaged to me by my iPhone owning friends .. this seems like a bad batch in South Korea. I had a gasket issue on my motorcycle that was part of a recall .. will I stop buying that brand because of it. No. And before you start talking about fire and explosions .. oil spewing out of a gasket onto a tire while doing 70mph ... same thing.

It should work with any wall plug, but it may not do the quick charge, unless it has the 2A output.
I'm looking for a charger that has USB-C. Reviewers seem to enjoy the new Anker Powerwave (links below). It includes a wall adapter, which reflects the high price. However it seems to only be available in the us (thus us adapter) atm.

Qualcomm QuickCharge 2.0 or above
Samsung adaptive FastCharge
I just use the Samsung Quick Qi charger that I got for my S7. Amazon Link Used it also for my S8 and now I'm using it for the S9+ and it still works great.

It should work with any wall plug, but it may not do the quick charge, unless it has the 2A output.

You need a charger that supports Quick Charge, I think, not just 2A output.

I'm pretty sure it's 10 watts.
You can get the official samsung fast charge convertible one used for 30. Way better than those knock off ones. I have had my refurb one for 2 years now and works great

Thats kinda expensive, so I don't see any reason why to bother with Amazon, while you can buy from local store just a little bit more expensive, and you don't need to wait weeks or even month.

Prime members can have it in two days flat. Fyi students can get prime for $49 a year, a good deal if you use amazon alot and also includes movies.
I've bought 4 off Amazon over the years from Seneo. They've always been great and offer a few different designs. Usually between $20-35 depending if you need the QC 2.0/3.0 adapter or not.

Honestly, I wouldn't bother. For the last 12 months of my S7 Edge life the wireless charger sat gathering dust. It's a bit of a fad in all honesty. It's no more convenient then plugging in really and sometimes less convenient as you manouvere the device around to hit the sweet spot. Now we have USB C connection its so easy to plug in.
Only plus side to wireless is it saves on wear and tear on the charging socket. If you're picking your phone up and back down again a lot then wireless is beneficial. But if its for say, bedside and charging over night while sleeping, may as well just plug it in.

Why would you say it's no more convenient? You might say it's only a little more convenient, which may be not enough for you.
But to each his own...
If I'm in my bed and go to sleep after reading on my phone I'm already half asleep. The only thing I have to do is put it on the cradle.
Without one I need to search the cable with my left hand in the dark, plug it in (which was hard to do with my Nexus 6) and lay it down. Sometimes I'm too tired already and just lay it down hoping to be able to charge it in the morning. At work i will have a place to put it down..
It was in fact the deal breaker when I had too decide between this phone and the Pixel 2 XL.
My Nexus 6 ate USB cables... I don't know if it was just my Nexus or all of them. My Nexus 6 fell from the bathroom sink last Sunday and now I'm glad I can move to USB-C which was the connector we should have had all this time. How they could have made such a bad successor of the mini-USB I still can't understand. Hopefully my expectations of the USB-C will meet up....
I'm just saying with USB C its not an issue plugging it in, you don't need to orientate the connector. The wireless pad, half the time you would place it down and because it was slightly off you had to rotate or manouevre the phone until it started charging.
If you think it'll be more convenient to you, go for it. I'm just saying I was excited and believed it would be for me too when I got the S7 Edge but as I say, for the last twelve months I never used the wireless charger.

Wireless charging is a tradeoff for convenience. I picked up a wireless car charger at Walmart. Forget the brand offhand but it was about 50 bucks. It did do wireless fast charge and comes with its own plug / cable.
Doing delivery driving, not plugging and unplugging my phone 40 or 50 times a day is certainly awesome. However, streaming music over blue tooth and running the GPS will only marginally charge it, so over the course of a night I lose battery. Just something to think about.
