Have Huawei been cheating with Mate 8 aswell with memory type ? - Mate 8 General

You have probably been reading lately a lot about huawei, that p10 have apparently different memory types, it is a lottery you have no idea which one you will get, but the speed difference turn out to be big.
Yesterday Huawei did also delete from their website that mate 9 have UFS 2.0 memory which seem suspicious .
So lets post your benchmarks here please so we can conclude people got DDR4 memory and not DDR3.
Also before benchmarking clean all apps in memory in phone manager and also in the app switcher. I recommend you use Androbench

here is my benchmark

here is mine L09C636

My benchmark are at some thread. I have a emmc internal memory not an UFS

This is mine from Mate 8 L29C185

So immense (factor of 2) differences can be observed here as well
My phone, of course, also falls in the "slow-department" :good:

Mine is below..

I wonder what memory type our mate 8 phones should have.

seem I have gotten the slowest speed in the whole thread ? Mine was bought in sweden.

Roughly the same results as most here.

I'm highly sure, that the benchmarked speed's doesn't tell us what type of memory was used. The results are inconsistent, and closing apps in the task manager doesn't mean they are completely closed in the background, they can still use the storage. There's a command you can run in a terminal emulator app, that can tell you witch type of memory was used in your phone, but it was written for the P10, i'm not sure it's working also with our phone, but i will test. Here's the command:
ls /proc/fs/*
If it shows sd*** below /proc/fs/f2fs, it's UFS.
If it show mmc*** below /proc/fs/f2fs, it's eMMC.
Edit: mine phone is using eMMC!
As i can remember the Mate8 wasn't advertised with UFS storage, so i'm guessing all units where made with eMMC. I'm not sure, its just a theory.

That it is a samsung lie. Other phones with the SD800 and 2gb of ram gives the user 1.81gb like the LG G2 or the nexus 5 in screenshots.
So, if LG only takes 190mb of ram with the same processor, theres no reason to take 500 by samsung, or at least not by the GPU. And if samsung needs 700mb for the s-crapware preinstalled, well, thats unfortunate.

So much this, I can accept that to some people have a phone with 30 apps installed, but I have over 400, and even if I use greenify or autostarts to freeze a most of them, I use a lot of ram, and I also need to use ram managers, if the phone goes below 200mb, it becomes super ultra slow, so from 2.3 to 2.7 it is a huge improvement that I really want to have.
I have found my note 3 freezes considerably when only few apps are running in the background. I'm constantly closing apps via task manager which I didn't have to on my HTC one. So something clearly isn't working as it should. This was one of the reasons why i moved away from samsung phones in the past.
I do like note 3 but I can't help feeling it's over bloated. I've had 3 note 3's all have the same issue.
Having 4 hours of use since it came out of the box nothing has been slow about it, even while restoring and using the phone. Once again my 2 was lagging with a fair number of apps running in the background if I didn't kill it.

I have 382 apps installed, and my RAM sticks at 1.2GB in use even without closing anything... Drops to 800MB in use when I clean them (and a lovely '62 apps closed' popup).
So I have no idea what is eating so much on yours as to require RAMmanagers.

Nexus 6 5.1 Encryption Performance

It seems that Encryption has got a big performance boost in 5.1.
I ran Androbench on my stock Nexus 6 running LMY47M.
My results using stock androbench settings.
Sequential Read|Write
161.53 MB/s | 74.75 MB/s
Random Read
20.0 MB/s, 5187.28 IOPS (4KB)
Random Write
7.98 MB/s, 2052.08 IOPS (4KB)
These numbers are actually higher than the unencrypted numbers AndroidPolice and Antutu reported back when the Nexus 6 first came out.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...us-6-encrypted-vs-unencrypted-its-not-pretty/
Yeah I'm not even gonna mess with unencrypting mine. It's as fast as me already. I don't care about benchmark numbers.

Same here. I had to enable a pattern to be able to access exchange server. There are exchange security bypass hacks out there you can load to remove that dependency (was for the Note 3 anyways) but I'm gonna leave it be.
I'd like to see someone check how the CPU is hit during heavy I/O now.
Remember that it could be pegging the CPU in order to keep the data transfer fast, which would have an impact on CPU intense applications and battery life. Real world use includes I/O *simultaneous* with CPU. Benchmarks only test them separately.
This is good to see. Once 5.1 or whatever settles in, I'm going back to encrypted and locked down

I can't take that decision for you. I don't really care about encryption. If they steal my phone, and don't know my password they only can get data off my sd card. Which I don't really bother.. What bothers to me is how the phone feels. And I decrypted it on android 5.0.1 And the phone did feel allot faster. On 5.1 decrypted the phone feels just as fast, I haven't used 5.1 encrypted, so I can't tell the differnce on 5.1. But I think the phone wil feel faster decrypted. So you could give it a try.

I was in the decrypted camp on 5.0... Didn't bother on 5.1 and honestly it's fast. No lag or stutters
My N6 still sucks opening apps. I'm so tired of this phone feeling slow. I still have my N5 because I'm procrastinating selling it but its running stock 5.0.1 and all the apps open instantly. I tested it against my decrypted N6 running 5.1, and my N6 is way behind.. Androbench says my sequential read speed is 187.72MB/s. Now if I reboot my phone it'll probably clear some apps from memory and do better idk I'll go try but either way sometimes it does better after a reboot, but it is nowhere near as fast as loading apps on my N5 and that bothers me so bad..
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk

OK after reboot its sequential read is at 192.84MB/s. Its performing a little better but this wears off for me. I can't keep rebooting my phone to get a little speed increase. Is that a bad result? Should my phone do better being decrypted? I can't stand it.

Any new phone will still use encryption and if Goog doesn't want to shell out the fees to Qualcomm it is still going to be software like it is now. Maybe a newer proc would be better at handling it though? Not sure.

Honor 8 beats Mate 9. Why?

Hi, guys, check out this video. It seems Honor 8 is faster than Mate 9, despite its older hardware. Any idea why? http://bit.ly/2jS2SB1
Maybe its due to some kind of device optimization, thats maybe not fully done on mate 9. Maybe future updates will release full potential of device.
Maybe a fake review, there is a video cut after clearing recent applications.
And and mate 9 has sd card inserted this will slow it down little.

It can be like that.
Imagine what we could do if we had a custom kernel.
If it has one of the older versions they have lower performance than the new ones.
Wake Up! Your having a bad dream!

But with 8 GB of RAM, this a waste of memory I think... is there any way to set a high limit or infinite?

I don't have any proof to back up my claim, but I believe OxygenOS uses a portion of the RAM for optimizations and performance. Hence why the 8GB variant seems to be slightly faster than the 6GB variant.

Actual storage, 128 gig????????????

Just setting up phone and with nothing on yet, when I connect to my laptop it says I have 100gig to use, can it be that 28 gig is being used by the system?? surely not...
2 things to remember:
A) Formatting
B) PH-1, just like Pixel devices, uses an A/B partition scheme. Which has the benefit of online updates, but the con of eating much more space.

I also wouldn't believe what Winblows says for storage, it's hardly ever right. And I do agree with Skripa, A/B partitions will limit the amount of usable storage. How much stuff do put on your phone anyway?
