Honor 8 beats Mate 9. Why? - Huawei Mate 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi, guys, check out this video. It seems Honor 8 is faster than Mate 9, despite its older hardware. Any idea why? http://bit.ly/2jS2SB1

Maybe its due to some kind of device optimization, thats maybe not fully done on mate 9. Maybe future updates will release full potential of device.

Maybe a fake review, there is a video cut after clearing recent applications.
And and mate 9 has sd card inserted this will slow it down little.

It can be like that.
Imagine what we could do if we had a custom kernel.

If it has one of the older versions they have lower performance than the new ones.

Wake Up! Your having a bad dream!

My mate goes faster then the one shown on the video.

My first observations after upgrade:
- system is smooth and fast, but the fact is that it was such before upgrade as well;
- smart battery saving leave you less options as before; you can't use it with screen off time adjustment any more; my impression is that with no battery saving you achieve less uptime than before and with smart battery the same as before but with more restrictions;
- overall color specter moved toward blue and a lot of white; light color letters on white background are sometimes difficult to read;
- safetynet (indicator of secure applications like Android Pay and Pokemon) fails wit the last upgrade; it passed with MM and first N upgrade 336;
- still no trace of wifi calling.
Camera is subject to more deep and demanding analyze which may follow latter.
Overall I'll be glad to get safetynet back and wifi calling sometimes soon.

other guy had al10, he did what i did, u have to be on the latest software, and then register on hicare
I also upgraded to 5.0 and then I did a factory reset to set all from the beginning...It seems to me that battery runs out a bit faster (first thoughts) and I agree with all written before this post....
I fell in love with new quick tools panel quickly, so dont feel about downgrading so far))
I will wait till our russian coleagues make up a clean EMUI 5.0 (without bloat and perhaps with some customizations) as they did for 4.1 (author: greatslon at 4pda)
Or maybe our honor devs will give us some cure in new builds...
Got a new upgrade yesterday, the version B368.
This time the change log is in Chinese so I have no idea what it is about. At least it still works fine, no complain so far

It says something like:
This update optimizes the system and stability and makes the phone run more smooth. It repairs Taobao app text dialog box on order to prevent blocking input method. It also repairs the problem that call recording can’t add the specific contact. Further, the problems that outgoing call can’t be placed and phone can’t be connected to WIFI are fixed as well. Removed error that Talkback can’t be used. Fixed HuaweiShare autolaunch after WIFI download rate is reduced. Fixed issues with 123006?? and banking (shopping??) apps like Taobao. Power consumption is optimized in order to extend battery life. Screen brightness parameters optimization.
The translate is result of mutual efforts of me and GoogleTranslate and it is far from perfect.
My first impressions after update:
The system is stable and ready for the transition from beta to the production version. It is responsive, smooth and fast. No substantial deficiencies could be detected. There are still some glitches that should be improved though:
1. In order to make the outlook white as a snow (combined with sea blue) the producer made some application text hard to read (white on the bright)
2. Using the power saving mode gives you insane 6 hours of SOT. But the mode fixes screen on when passive to 30 secs time and it can't be adjusted. What could be really annoying in some situations. I would have easily sacrificed 1 hour of SOT if I had option to turn off the screen manually.
3. SafetyNet (connected with payment and other safety apps) fails after every upgrade. Thankfully so far I had it back in a few days and I hope that it will happen this time too. I think that the failure is connected to beta status of the upgrade: Google might consider upgrade as a test version of the system (safe applications don't work on the rooted phone, custom recovery, unlocked bootloader or test versions of the system). I don't understand the mechanism on which the functionality suddenly returns: is it by Huawei's intervention, Google app upgrade or simply recognizing the upgrade as real, not test version.
Finally, there is an improved custom ROM for AL10 and AL00 (HRT-Kangvip) if someone with rooted phone wanna try: http://club.huawei.com/thread-11821416-1-1.html (use GoogleTranslate).

I am in China, I already got 3 updates since I bought it (3 weeks ago).
That's why I can't really compare with marshmallow as I didn't use it much.
I just found out they still didn't fix the bug when we use the fingerprint to slide photos in the gallery. It works but it's not as smooth as before.

Eh..... You do know Project Treble is an "Oreo" thing right ?
And...... The Honor 9 lite comes with Oreo 8.0 out of the box....
Keep your 7X Stock ( That's the key )........ wait a little longer........ and you will be receiving a notification that you are about to be updated to Oreo 8.0...
Then....... You can try Project Treble on your Honor 7X

let us know how it goes planning to pick up a 7X pretty soon and while it's an appealing device I'm not too crazy about EMUI, so if it can run an AOSP Treble build that would make it all the better.

I have a few issues, the GPU is absolutely awfull, not recommend for intensive gaming.
The front camera Is very bad especially under low light.
The rear cameras are quite good but suffer under low light as well.
For some reason i don't get any updates.
(This is specific for my device though)
The screen is amazing, nice colours, sharp. Just lovely.
There is some occasional ghosting in YouTube but this is only in YouTube so no other apps (for me at least)
I do thoroughly recommend buying it of the official site.
Even when Oreo comes to 7x, whats the guarantee, that it will come with Treble support ?

Will the partition responsible for project treble remain untouched even when flashing a new android version when it comes out comes out (I mean, if I'm updating from a treble supported Oreo ROM to a P ROM)?

OEM skin/software

Are you comfortable in your own skin? Is your phone comfortable in its skin? Rate this thread to express how you deem the skin on the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite. A higher rating indicates that you love it: it adds just the right amount of features, it's visually pleasing, and overall it's additive to the experience. If this is a Nexus phone (you didn't think we hand-wrote all of these prompts, did you?) then use this rating to indicate how the latest version of Android looks to you.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Android One / Stock Android.
Nothing to complain about.
I wished we could get rid of the teal accent color and use the pixel blue, without magisk.
A stock Android. No OEM skin, very minimal bloatware (mostly from Google apps), no "Antivirus" and non-sense apps, and essentially, no Facebook (or related) pre-installed (almost any Android phones of most major brand HAVE them where I live)!
To me, it's a breath of fresh air.
Mi A2's Android One is crap, it replaces loads of bloatware with loads of bugs, I can't believe the OS is so bad... Battery doesn't last as long as when it was on Oreo, SD Card always ejecting itself and makes phone reboot the whole time if you have it as internal storage, MTP is SLOW, really SLOW, for 5GB of data it takes 23 hours to pass... and sometimes cancels transfers.
Fingerprint and other things are worse since Pie update, I'm hoping that Xiaomi fix all of this, or the Mi A2 Lite will be my first and last Xiaomi phone.
Nonsense. You probably f*cked up something with update or you dropped phone so many times that something is broken inside. MTP is normal for me. 3GB for less than 5 minutes. Phone never ejected SD card by itself. I was on Pie and battery life is little bit worse, but I understand that(it is still in beta, it will be fixed). I get 7h of phone usage on Pie, 8h30min on Oreo. Fingerprint is in fact better on Pie.
Bad battery life with Pie?

Turn on Adaptive battery. Disable digital wellbeing, action services, files go and other bloatware apps you don't use(like Google keep, google duo etc.) I take 9 or 8 hours SOT from my 6 months old A2 lite and Ivam heavy user. I only don't play games. I use many social apps, WhatsApp, calling, messaging during a whole day. I charge my phone once a day butbmy SOT is very good.
Also I am at Stock Pie. NOT rooted. I just disabled and uninstalled unnecessary apps and services I mentioned above. Do it you will see big difference about battery life and performance.

Be careful debloating your phone. Because some system apps are really vital or provide battery optimizations for new Android 9. Just do what I said and you will see. Also don't use hibernation apps like greenify. Because new Android 9 already has hibernation system in itself

Fingerprint sometimes recognize my finger and other don't... I just need to try battery and MTP, but I'm dissapointed that the SD Card issues is still there.

Well, I have to take my words back from my old comments here, but, starting from 10.0.10.0 onwards, the OS runs not so smooth, introduced more bugs than it have to be solved, eats MicroSD out of nowhere and on top of that, lazy developments. These really hinders of what should AndroidOne is. Yes, there is minimal bloatware, yet the price to pay is the bugs it introduced and never fixed by lazily stating 'bugs fixed'.
I believe 10 is running really good for me.
Not much bothering me other than I have to turn dark mode off to read a couple things once and awhile. Overall everything works as I expect for the amount invested in this device

Redmi Note 7 - Miui 12 Update / Baseband Unknown

Hello everyone I hope you can help me or guide me somehow, I loaded the global rom a year ago to my Redmi Note 7, and everything worked perfectly tho the sim was not recognized every time I rebooted my phone, but apart from that everything was ok.
Yesterday I did my system asked for an update to MIUI 12 and it took a little longer to boot and after that, the sim was not recognized I thought it was the same error when I had to open an close the sim slot but it never recognized the sim, and then I noticed the baseband was showing as Unknown.
So I did a backup and tried to restore with no success, i tried flashing with the EU ROM, and still the same thing, I tried with the Pixel Experience, the same result.
I hope anyone can help me or guide me on what should i do...
Best Regards.
Just found this and it fixed everyhing ^_^

Stable MIUI 12
Hello!
Good to see you've fixed the baseband issue. Please, could you tell me how you see MIUI 12 on lavender, performance wise, compared to MIUI 11? A little review would be appreciated ??. I'm sceptical of updating, because MIUI 10 was better, IMHO, than MIUI 11.
Thanks!
What was the solution? install a new twrp? or install the official rom again.

xiaomi.eu rom here
1. I have bug where DNS mode is turning on by itself [first release and after the update]
2. camera software is better comparing to 11, feels more like gcam quality wise
3. it eats a lot of ram so you must root your phone and adjust the background killer and stuff
4. battery is the same as on 11
it got a lot of new settings and everything is fast, so you can update if you really want new stuff
some people say you must wait few hours or days till the system defrag itself to be snappy, some have snappy stuff from the beginning.
.eu version has original call recorder and mi message and stuff, global has google stuff because of the UE law or something like that. Haven't noticed anything serious beside night silent mode turning on by self [nothing helps]
Thanks!

Thanks for the response. I was really hoping that MIUI 12 would be better at RAM management, but it seems it has only gotten worse, both from what you said and from what i read elsewhere from another RN7 user. I'm rooted and would be when If and when I update; guess I have to go read up on how to adjust background killer using root.
Global ROM not coming with Mi dialer and call recorder is the biggest bummer, here. I rely on it a lot in my business, and I regard it as one of the reasons why I'm not in a haste to move on to newer models. I don't mind so much about not having Mi message – I'm using textra. I don't know why they had to do that, seeing that the phone originally came without Google dialer and Message. Even MIUI 11 + Q update preserved that setup, so it doesn't make sense, IMO, to introduce those Google apps.
Well, xiaomi.eu it is, then!
Thanks for your time!

Poco M3 very slow?

Hi guys, I just bought the Poco M3 and I find it very slow, not only on opening apps but also things like opening recent apps menu, popping up keyboard, etc. Anybody else is experiencing this? The specs are pretty decent so I guess it's a badly optimized OS. I've used MIUI before and I liked it so I'm kinda disappointed.
I should receive mine later today, I will come back here after some tests and tell you.
Awesome! Waiting for your input.
I've been playing with it for about an hour now, didn't install many apps though (just a few basic ones).
It does have some lags like you said (drawer, keyboard, opening apps...), but I find it alright for that price point.
Yeah, the CPU should handle that a bit better, but MIUI 12 isn't really known to be a light Android skin. I don't think they made much optimization for the M3, it's probably the same as the more powerful POCOs.
Overall it's fine imo, but I agree it should be better for the hardware inside.
As a small update, I might add that after using it for a bit longer some of the lag went away, but it's still quite slow to open apps and do multi-tasking.

Thanks for your reply! I know the phone is super cheap and I shouldn't expect too much from it, but I've used MIUI before on even worse hardware and it was pretty smooth, so I was surprised by the lag. Nice phone otherwise(except camera which is pretty bad IMO). I didn't use it too much since it's not my main phone, but I'm going to use it more maybe it will get better. I'm also doing a hard reset. I hope it will get LineageOS soon, that would be awesome.
Yeah I see your point. I'm a Poco F2 Pro & X3 NFC user, so I also find the phone quite laggy, but it is acceptable in my opinion. But I do hope they will make some updates to improve performances, even just a bit.
(I recommend checking out the GCam thread I made for the camera, it gave me quite some decent results)

Nice!! I was just thinking about GCam and hoping that it would be available for this device. I will check your thread.
Just one question: have you tried to disable MIUI Optimizations in the developer options? I've seen users of other Xiaomi devices saying that it can improve the performance of the device, whether it's true or how much it improves, I don't know

I tried it and I think it's work.

That could explain the part where I said performance improved after using it for a while. I actually switched off MIUI Optimization in this part.

Done that, still slow. Will probably return the phone.
You need to wait for some time it'll get better
Just got an update this morning (12.0.5 EU) that improved performance

Any updates how is it working now?
Mine works perfect for the price.
Out of the box the phone does not feel snappy.
I've debloated the phone, removed 60 packages.
The phone feels snappy now after removing Google Assistant.
Change Poco launcher for Lawnchair, probably you will feel the diference.

Hmm, I'd say with this update (as well as replacing the Poco launcher with Lawnchair), I did notice some performance improvement, yeah.
I wouldn't say by a lot, games still have the same amount of lag, but scrolling and opening apps definitely feel smoother and perfectly acceptable now imo.
