MyKnox - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Anyone found a version of myknox that works on the S8? I can do secure folders, and I see that knox is installed, but I can't create a myknox workspace... Boo...

Looks liek it cost money now? https://www.samsungknox.com/en/solutions/knox-workspace

That is an MDM (Mobile Device Management). It is for enterprises not for consumers.

I guess my use of the work workspace was confusing. Sorry. I definitely mean for a personal device, not corporate managed by MDM.

What does it do that the Smartfolder doesn't do?

I downloaded My Knox apk file from sammobile. It worked.

What does the feature do though?

For personal use? As I understand it it's basically military level security to separate business and personal apps. Also, you only get a 30 day free trial.

Isn't that what secure folder does though? You can install separate apps into that folder

Correct. MyKnox was knox for regular users to enjoy the secure secondary workspace using the knox security platform. Secure folder is just the next version of myknox, incorporating all the suggestions they received to make it less complicated, a bit faster, and more seamless for regular users. Most users were not using the full launcher setup in myknox, but the folder mode. There is no difference in the encrypted volume afaik. If you like the older two phones style, you can just sideload myknox. Not sure if it still works, but on the S7 you could install both, and have a total of 3 environments.

Try this,
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6WG7_c-hYT8SlVJVHpSSkNiNlE/view?usp=drivesdk
First install Knox.apk, next install KnoxManager.apk
Go in your home drawer and enjoy✌

Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for on XDA this morning lol

It works great. Both the apk from Sammy downloads and the gdrive link, I tested both. I love having the secret fodder for personal things, and the MyKnox for my work stuff. I like being able to have it in launcher mode.

That's the one! I like the idea that my work could screw up their MDM, and send a hard wipe to my phone, and it only affects that little segmented blob, not my whole phone!

It's not a 30 trial.
The user version is free.
The enterprise version is what costs. Knox allows companies to even do things like DEP (Apple term) for all their devices to force device management on them. You can even push custom Samsung made firmware on KME enabled devices. Quite powerful stuff. Knox takes advantage of the hardware encryption on the device and encrypts all data at rest, in memory and in CPU. It's quite powerful.
Oh, and any MDM (mobile device management) system that pushes commands on the device, uses Knox APIs for most of the features. There are only a few basic Google APIs used for MDM. Rest are customized by Samsung - they are one of the very few, if not the only OEM that puts a TON of effort into adding APIs for MDMs to add new features.

Wait for the update in your phone...
You know that by simpling installing a ROM in your phone it could have any .apk modified to steal your info... rite? Anyway, no one would do that... I hope...

The dumbest thing about it is placing the "update" and "uninstall" buttons so ultra-close together and making them so super-small. What happened to Google's UI common sense?
Now, every time you update an app, I have to be careful not to accidentally push "uninstall" and I don't even have fat fingers!

It's kind of stuttery/laggy here. So is gmail list scrolling, so is YouTube app.
Seems like scrolling in lists does not work well on my phone. Web browsing for instance, is much smoother.
When installing an app with Play Store, it can actuallly be smoother than unloaded. I'm running MC3 fw, but the problem has always been present. Did a factory reset a few days ago, but it did not help.

Debloating VZW (rooted stock)

Now that root is achieved, many will freeze or remove stock VZW apps. Are there any resources on which apps are safe to freeze? This may have been asked elsewhere, but this is likely to be a recurring question and a thread in Q&A could be useful. Any information would be appreciated.

My problem is that I do not seem to have any options to uninstall. With the KK Launcher I did have an uninstall option but it would say uninstall unsuccessful.

That is interesting information, but I don't believe that article specifies what is safe to remove (just what the consider removing). Also, the ATT framework may not behave exactly as the VZW might, which is my specific question.
Edit: consider using titanium backup and freeze as an alternative to uninstalling entirely. Should give you the option to restore if needed.

Just use boot browesr or something similar and go to /system/app and rename the bloat. Change myverizon.apk to myverizon.bak for example. That way it it cause issues you can just change it back.

Correct if you want to uninstall them, but you can "disable" bloat from the applications section in the settings to free up memory and to cut down on unnecessary processes without needing root.
I'm not sure how the US carriers will handle this issue, but all of my carrier-specific apps were uninstallable on my Korean Note 4. Samsung and Google services have been hit-or-miss. But then again, there was specific legislation passed here on this very subject last year.

Like that stupid flip board app.
Sprint has been pretty good about being able to straight uninstall all those useless programs they load once you activate. The rest has to be root uninstalled to remove. I've been using Samsung devices for awhile and most have to be rooted to remove their extra features.
Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk
Can't you just disable them? They'll still take up space but they won't run.
uninstalling some of the applications, especially from google or samsung could break other things seemingly unrelated, so much better way is to freeze them, but you need root. greenify has some option to stop apps from starting on boot up, not 100% sure, but I think it works even without root.
greenify is limited without root, but it is a start.
Does anyone know when the ATT note 3 was able to root?

App that backs up folder arrangement

Hi.
Is there an app that can back up the folder arrangement in the app drawer? Because of the farce it is getting the s7 edge to flash properly with data I need to reset my phone again and it takes an age to get my apps organised into folders so when Samsung cloud has downloaded all my apps I want them automatically to be placed into their folders, I know Samsung /Google does it automatically with marshmallow but in nougat it doesn't
Cheers
Edit: just realised you said that it doesn't work in Nougat.

If you use cpl as your launcher, it has a feature called secure apps. If you like stock android launcher look, you should give this one a try.
