https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnEA__fbZ6U
So basicly they use the twrp out of OP
So flash recovery in fastboot
Reboot into recovery (vol++power)
Backup !
Format data
Flash magisk
reboot
Run Magisk Manager

METHOD FOR TRT-LX1
Thnx for the above files !
I just did following steps : (almost like OP but slightly different)
0. follow here
1. Download above package from OP, be sure to be bl unlocked and frp unlocked
1a. Put latest Magisk 15.3 and manager on your extSD or flash supersu from within twrp package. It will be your choice how to root (btw, supersu in this package has chinese characters above)
1b. enable usb debugging, connect phone...
2. Run adb (devices)...you know by now, right
3. run following commands :
a. adb reboot bootloader
b. fastboot flash recovery TRT-TWRP-3.1.1-0818.img
4. when flashed, disconnect phone, and hold vol+ + power to boot into twrp recovery, select english
5. back up all !
6. format data
7. install Magisk or SuperSU at choice from your extSD. NOTE : when flashed and you want to reboot, select : not install supersu
8. reboot. It will take some reboots but all ok :good:
Can anyone in this thread post their build number? I'm trying to use firmware finder to get the stock rom

[AIO GUIDE] Install Magisk with OTA +Make your own patched_boot...

Hey ! Today i will give you all the different ways/steps for root your Mi A2 easily.
+ How to manually create patched_boot.img for your version (beta...) without extrernal help.
Code:
Your warranty is now void.
We are not responsible for bricked devices, dead
SD cards... Please do some
research if you have any concerns about features
included in this GUIDE before using it! YOU are
choosing to make these modifications.
Summary
- Part 1 : Install drivers and unlock bootloader. Credit to @balazs312
- Part 2 : Root with 2 ways
- Bonus : Backup boot.img and make patched_boot.img
- Part 3 : OTA
Part 1 :
So, First you need to install drivers and unlock your phone bootloader. Skip to part 2 if already done.
1. Installing drivers & Preparing PC
- Download this and extract it
- Open and install "adb-setup-1.4.3.exe"
- When it is done, go to "Drivers" folder and start "miflash_unlock.exe"
- Click on the gear icon top right corner and click on "Check" next to "Click the button to install the drive"
- Do as the installer says
- Hopefully the drivers has been installed so we're done with it, let's head on the next step.
2. Preparing phone for unlocking
- On your phone navigate to Settings->System->About phone and tap the build number until you see "You are developer"
- Go back once and you'll see a new menu called "Developer options"
- Tap on it and search an option called "OEM Unlocking", enable it
- We're done here. Let's keep going
3. Entering fastboot and unlocking bootloader (MAKE A BACKUP of your data!)
- Hold your power button down, tap on restart and hold your volume DOWN button while it resets until you see the Mi bunny doing its thing
- Now we're in Fastboot mode, hooray
- Download this zip and extract it on your PC
- Open it and type "cmd" (without the quotations) in the file manager header where you see (This computer>somethingsomething>Mi A2 fastboot), don't be afraid just type it in, and hit enter and you'll enter into command prompt
- Now we are ready for action
- Type these commands one by one:
fastboot flashing unlock
fastboot flashing unlock_critical
After this, you will see a warning message that your bootloader is unlocked and your data is not safe, blah blah... Just ignore it everytime you power on your phone.
Part 2 :
So there are currently two ways to root his phone. Let's start with the first.
Methode 1 : We will use the new temp twrp. Method by me.
1. Download files...
- Download this TWRP.
- Place it in your adb folder.
- Download Magisk-v17.2_a and Magisk-v17.2_b.
- Copy these 2 zips in your phone internal storage.
2. Check current-slot...
- Plugin your phone to you pc
- Navigate to your settigs on your phone.
- Open Developer settings
- Enable Usb Debugging
- A pop up should appear on your phone scren, hit and box and autorize the pc.
- on your pc, open fastboot command prompt, and type "adb reboot bootloader" , your device should reboot to fastboot
- type "fastboot getvar current-slot". Remember if the result is a or b.
3. Root using temporally twrp
- Reboot your phone in fastboot.
- On your pc, open fastboot command prompt, and type "fastboot boot twrp-3.2.3-jasmine-20181020.img"
- Your phone now reboot into twrp, it down't flash it, so after a reboot twrp will be gone.
- If twrp ask a password for decrypt data put your phone PIN and validate.
- Click on install and select Magisk-v17.2_a if the result in Step 2. is A, and Magisk-v17.2_b if result is B and swipe to install.
- Then select Reboot.
Now you have Magisk 17.2 installed on your phone, and twrp is gone after reboot. You can select beta in Magisk settings and update to 17.3 if you want.
Methode 2 : We will use patched_boot.img.
1. Where to find patched_boot.img ?
- Go here and check if there is your build version. If yes dowload the patched_boot.img file ( need to be on pc ) and skip to step 2. If not continue.
- If you can't find your correct build patched_boot.img (Because you are on the beta, and nobody share the file or something like that....) you can easily make your own using temp twrp. Go to Bonus part, make your patched_boot.img and continue.
2. Pepare files.
- Copy the patched_boot.img in your adb folder
- Be sure to rename it to "patched_boot.img"
- Download latest Magisk Manager apk here (currently v6.0.1)
- Copy the apk on your phone storage.
3. Install Magisk
- Reboot your phone in fastboot.
- Open a fastboot command prompt on your pc.
- Type "fastboot boot patched_boot.img"
- Your phone will reboot, put your pin....
- Go in your prefer file explorer and Install the magisk apk.
- Now open Magisk Manager app
- Click Install, direct install. Wait for the process
- And click reboot.
Now you have Magisk 17.2 installed on your phone. You can select beta in Magisk settings and update to 17.3 if you want.
Bonus
So, i will show you how to backup your current bot img. And how to make your own patched_boot.img, so people who are on Beta OTA can root there phone without any external help...
1. Backup the boot.img
- Download this TWRP.
- Place it in your adb folder.
- In TWRP, click on "Advanced"
- Click "File Manager"
- Navigate to /dev/block/platform/soc/c0c4000.sdhci/by-name
- You will se a lot of files, and if you look you will see 3 important files, boot, boot_a and boot_b.
- Click on the "boot" file
- Click "Copy File"
- Navigate to /sdcard
- Click the blue arrow and swipe to confirm
- Click reboot
- Copy the file on your pc, and rename it to "boot.img" instead of "boot".
Now you have backup your stok boot.img you can use it for stock or whatever you want....
2. Create the patched_boot.img file
- Download latest Magisk Manager apk here (currently v6.0.1)
- Install the apk on your phone
- Open Magisk Manager
- Go to settings , click Update Channel and select Beta
- Return to home of Magisk Manager
- Click Install, then Boot image file patch ( don't know the correct typo because for me the app is in french, champion du monde !! xD ) and wait for the end of the process.
Done you now create your own patched_boot.img ! Enjoy !!
Part 3 :
So, now i will explain you how to install OTA when you have magisk.
- First, disable Automatic system updates in developer options, so it won't install OTAs without your acknowledgement.
- Open Magisk Manager, click Uninstall, then Restore Images. Don't reboot !
- Now Search for update and wait for the process. BUT do not press the "Restart now" or "Reboot" button !
- Open Magisk Manager, hit Install, then Install to inactive slot.
- Reboot when it's done.
If it don't work (strange) and ota failed, you can find your stock boot.img for your build version here, or backup your boot.img using the[ B]1.[/B] of the Bonus part and flash it using the command "fastboot flash boot_( your current slot) boot.img" (you can check your current slot with command "fastboot getvar current-slot).

Hi
Right now im on OPM1.171019.011.V9.6.13.0ODIMIFE (5 sept 2018) rooted with magisk
I just want to update and re-root, the painless style. I dont want to flash a ****load of stuff to have a functionning phone.
Can anyone confirm that step 3 is ok? Thats the same method than for MI A1, and it was only half functionnal, i dont want to play with fire.
After having killed the IMEI numbers and the persist partition of the A1, it took me 2 weeks to repair, I dont want to **** up this one too. Hell no.

this is safe. but if you want to can just use patched boot method.
I used the method described in Step 3 to install the September OTA (V9.6.13.0) and re-install Magisk. It worked like a charm, but I am trying to repeat the method to install the October update without success. The OTA updater downloads the update, and starts installing it, but it fails miserably every time.
I have even completely uninstalled Magisk and flashed the img from here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/others/files/MiA2/
But It does not work, the OTA installer always fails.
I'm clueless, what can I do?

it's because during the ota process, the current slot change. but you can back to stock September ROM, then update. and after that root using my second post https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2/how-to/guide-2-minutes-magisk-installation-t3856980/amp/

[GUIDE] Convert Mi A2 to Mi 6X [MIUI 10 Oreo] [MIUI 10 Pie]

*
* I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if

*/
Hey guys, Today I am creating a Guide on How to Convert Mi A2 to Mi 6X without triggering ARB.
This guide is based on Guide by @yunusasik(Telegram : @dejavutr ) so All credit goes to Him.
First of All Download the Convert.zip from here
All files needed to be replaced have already been replaced in convert.zip.
Then, Follow the Following Steps to Flash Mi 6X Firmware on your A2
First Make Sure you already unlocked bootloader flashing and flashing critical ("fastboot flashing unlock" and "fastboot flashing unlock_critical")
1) Install Qualcomm Driver (next next next) (Also Windows update can do this trick when you plug )
2) Install QPST (use setup from the QPST Alternative folder. )
(find QFİLL on start menu or qpst installed directory), open QFİLL from start menu or opst installed folder.
3) Select Flat Build Mode
Select Programmer File prog_emmc_firehose_Sdm660_ddr.elf ( already changed no arb risk )
Select XML files rawprogram0 and patch0.xml
4) Put the phone on the edl mode
navigate to ADB Folder and Open tikla.bat, it will open command windows in that directory.
Use "fastboot oem edl" command to Enter "Emergency Download Mode ( EDL )"
Press Download
When install finish. Power up the phone.
MIUI 9 Ready to BOOT (First boot may take time you can hard reset via pressing vol up - down and power together )
5) You dont need to setup miui 9 just go fastboot again (vol down + power ( when phone closed ) )
From this section you can either install MIUI 10 (OREO) or Custom ROM ( Which one you want )
Guide will be Resume about flashing MIUI 10 ( OREO )
Flash TWRP
" fastboot flash recovery twrpwayne.img "
" fastboot boot twrpwayne.img "
If twrp start chinese you can set language on that screen
6) Wipe / Advanced Wipe
7) System + Dalvik + Cache + Data + Internal
8) Flash MIUI 10(no arb).zip via adb sideload (put file into adb folder and use adb sideload MIUI 10 (no arb).zip) or put file on the
storage via mtp, if its works
" No need for gapps "
If you want root Flash Magisk.
Welcome to MIUI 10 without arb
You can use MiFlash Tool 2016 64Bit only this one works good others may stuck sometimes and risky because if you unplug when installing you have to use test point method for saving phone.
You can enable camera2api with "Camera2api enabler" on play store (ONLY MIUI 10 OREO)
If qfill installation somehow corrupt use "QPST Alternative" folder or Miflash from above
You can Download Newer MIUI Releases from here
Just make sure to delete the "firmware-update folder" using winrar etc.
-------
UPDATİNG TO MIUI 10 PIE
Download MIUI 10 PIE from here (if you are in mobile press "try download anyway" )
Open zip file and delete "Firmware Upgrade" folder from the zip (Most İmportant)
Boot into TWRP
Go Wipe / Advanced Wipe
Wipe "System + Dalvik + Cache + Data"
(Make sure you are using ext4 file system on Cache and Data partition)
Flash MIUI 10 Pie zip
Flash Hex Kernel download from here (We need this because we are not using fw update folder for updating kernel etc (because its trigger arb 4))
Flash Magisk if you want root
Reboot to system
Welcome to MIUI 10 Pie
You can check new mıuı eu updates from here.
For enabling camera2api on MIUI 10 Pie you have to edit build prop download this application from play store
Give root permissions
Search for HAL3 then change boot of them 0 to 1
Restart the phone.
For stable gcam use this
------
Converted Mi6X Indian Variant Camera FİX
1. Flash any custom ROM or MIUI 10 ROM firmware-update folder deleted.
2. Flash the zip from here via TWRP.
3. Reboot
------
Convert Back to A2
Download latest a2 stock rom.
Put phone to edl mode again (fastboot oem edl)
Flash stock rom via QFİLL with same method (Select .ddr and xml files from stock rom folder) and power up.
Done.
(If you have wifi camera or splash screen problems. Flash stockrom with miflash on fastboot (vol down + power ) again.)
(Alternative) You can use MiFlash Tool 2016 64Bit to convert back.
Select A2 stock rom folder.
Put phone to edl mode (fastboot oem edl).
Flash Rom when its done, power up the phone to fastboot (vol down + power ) and flash rom again. (for solving any camera wifi etc issue)

I'm curious, how long does it take for QFIL to process MIUI9 stuff? I pressed download button and it's stuck or something for like an hour now.

It does take a long time than Mi Flash. I check from time to time where it stopped and it does move a bit, like a snail's pace kind of slow.

7) System + Dalvik + Cache + Data + Internal
8) Flash MIUI 10(no arb).zip via adb sideload (put file into adb folder and use adb sideload filename.zip) or put file on the
storage via mtp if its works
" No need for gapps "
If you want root Flash Magisk.
Welcome to MIUI 10 without arb
If u wanna come back to Mi A2 just flash latest stock rom via qfill again.
U can use miflash but its stuck sometimes and risky because if u unplug when installing u have to use test point method for saving phone.
U can enable camera2api with "Camera2api enabler" on play store
If QFIL Does not work try QPST Alternative
You can Download Newer MIUI Releases from here
Just make sure to delete the firmware-update using winrar.

I remember reading a thread related to sensor issue. There is already a post regarding this sensor issue in this forum. probably u need to re-flash the persist .img from fastboot but dont do it just blindly. rather search the forum and refer to that thread before proceeding.

Emui 9 with Root Honor 8 pro ( tested by myself ...root 100% working ! ) July 2019

Hello guys , [ UPDATE ROOT for EMUI 9.1.0.210 .. at bottom ... there are some minor changes]
been reading here and there for a working root but didn't work and my worries to get phone locked / bricked / bootloop
was increasing at any failed test !
THIS method WILL WORK i tested it today and worked ! I'm gonna upload also my magisk recovery_ramdisk PATCHED (read later) so you can skip few steps !
let's start
(steps are copied by Athanatos81 post here in XDA that's basically what i applied with some minor changes )
I. Rooting your device
1. be sure ADB / fasboot are working on your pc(drivers) and smartphone - INSTALL magisk manager Magisk Manager
2. Download the patched file for your device and copy it to Minimal ADB & Fastboot folder.
( you can use my magisk recovery_ramdisk PATCHED it's created by using update.app from update.zip file of EMUI BUILD 9.0.1.175(C432E3R1P5)
that means IF you are on emui 9.0.1 with THAT BUILD NUMBER you can use it ... if you are on a different build DO NOT use it, I take no responsabilities !!!
link to magisk recovery_ramdisk PATCHED magisk recovery_ramdisk PATCHED magisk_patched_9_0_1_175.img
3. Start your smartphone in fastboot mode pressing [Vol-]+[Power] and connect it to your PC. ( you can NOT enter fastboot? read in next section)
4. Open a Powershell and check if your honor 8 pro is listed by writing :
Code:
fastboot devices
you should see something like BYJDU17803000088 fastboot
that means your phone in correctly in fastboot/connected
5. Flash the Recovery_Ramdisk:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk magisk_patched.img
(in this case MY ALREADY MADE magisk recovery_ramdisk patched is named like that IF you choose a different name that CHANGE it also in the command)
when the process is complete (you'll get something like this
OKAY [ 0.184s]
finished. total time: 0.879s)
you need to REBOOT follow these next steps as i describe them or it won't work :
6. from your pc command window write
Code:
fastboot reboot
as soon as phone reboot
- remove usb cable
- PRESS and HOLD DOWN " volume up " VOL+ , keep it pressed until you see HONOR text (blue screen)
doing this will INSTALL MAGISK
7. your phone boot regularly(hopefully) now open Magisk Manager
you will see MAGISK 19.x.x.
and MAGISK 7.3.2
click on INSTALL (magisk 19.3) --- INSTALL ---- DIRECT INSTALL
when it's done it'll ask you to reboot , click reboot
phone is rooted !!!!!
i hope it helps for any references have a look at these pages which helped me :
root emui 9
magisk download
Magisk info
ROOT EMUI 9.1.0.210
first of all thank you to @OldDroid and @Athanatos81 for support ...
DOWNLOAD my patched magisk: PATCHED Magisk recovery 9.1.0.210
I'll descrive here the process how to update and root from 9.0.1.175 to 9.1.0.210
in my case i was on emui 9.0.1.175 rooted and i couldn't enter recovery or fastboot or simply update through system update !
so before starting it go in system settings -> update and DOWNLOAD your update
when you end your download don't restart and update BUT enter in fastboot:
to enter fastboot i had to restart honor 8 pro (while connected to usb)
and keep pressing VOL DOWN
now in fastboot you'll do following steps
(to install official update YOU FIRST NEED to install stock recovery so in this case 9.0.1.175 stock recovery .. while if you just need root on your actual rom you can just use the patched magisk recovery)
check if your smartphone is seen
fastboot devices
now
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk magisk_patched_9_1_0_210.img ( in this case is the one i already patched for you )
fastboot reboot
let system start and than use ADB
adb reboot recovery
system will restart now open magisk manager
INSTALL MAGISK( in my case v20.1 )
INSTALL direct
reboot when asked
congratulations your Emui 9.1 is rooted !!!
Work with 9.1 ?
probably... I still didn't uodst though (going soon in holidays I don't wanna mess up with it lol)

IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS with SMS app crashing ( you can't receive/send sms ) follow this and it'll work again

I've got that "system update settings" on my honor 8 Pro and guess what? I've lost magisk root... so I need to do procedure again.. unbelievable but that is it! I found out cause I started to see annoying advertising and I checked adaway and "no root"

Help | Tried to root Android 11 and got stuck

Hi, I'm a newbie and I usually root my Pixel 4 on AT&T because I use a lot of tethering for my work which my carrier blocks.
Two weeks ago I had Android 10, unlocked and rooted. Life was good.
Phone automatically updated to Android 11 and I lost root.
Today I had some free time so I:
-Downloaded Android 11 factory img to my laptop
-Patched boot.img with Magisk 20.4 that was already installed on my phone (I think this was my first mistake)
-Flashed the new patched img to my mobile
-Restarted
-Got stuck into the G with bar at the bottom eternally
-Couldn't get into ADB devices so I restarted to fastboot
-flashed the stock boot.img by: "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
-fastboot restart
-Now stuck on Fastboot Mode loop. Device Status "unlocked", boot slot a, enter reason: "reboot bootloader"
Now I don't know exactly what to do here and I do need my mobile to work. Sorry for the newbie question but what should I do? Ideally I would like to not lose my data given bootloader is already unlocked.
P.S. I ran stock image flash-all without the -w and I'm back to square 1. How should I root then?
Thank you so much!

10. The magisk_patched.img size should be between ~64 - ~67 MB.
11. Uninstall all the modules
12. Uninstall Magisk - Restore images
13. Reboot
14. Goto D
B. If Beta or Canary Magisk Manager is installed:
1. Uninstall all modules

3. patch the stock boot.img - tap Install next to Magisk
4. Select: Patch boot.image
5. Locate Stock boot.img you extracted from the current factory image.
6. Select it, tap the Checkmark (✓)
7. Tap Lets Go
8. Save log
9. Reboot
10. The magisk_patched.img size should be between ~64 - ~67 MB.
11. Goto D
C. If Magisk is not installed:
1. Download Beta or Canary Magisk Manager
2. Install Beta or Canary Magisk Manager
3. Make sure the Update Channel is set to the version of the Manager you installed.
