Does the Xperia X Compact support band 12 and VOLTE on TMobile (with latest update)? - Sony Xperia X Compact Questions & Answers

I have spent the better part of an hour searching for a specific answer to these questions. So far, I have found two sources that claim band 12 works on Tmo. However I have only seen one review on Amazon from a couple weeks back that claim the phone does not support volte on Tmo. If it doesn't, that's a deal breaker for me. Can anyone, with the latest update, confirm or deny whether B12 and VOLTE on Tmo is working or not. Thanks very much in advance.

At *#*#4636#*#* testing menu there is band selector for United States and Japan
For sure at Tmo US if there is certification for this handset, VoLTE should be supported

To the best of my knowledge band 12 works. Multiple people here have even posted screenshots with the phone operating on Band 12. Sadly I live in the Chicago area and we are the the last major city to get Band 12. So I cannot personally verify it since it isn't up and running here yet. As for VoLTE that is a two way street. Lately Sony has been working with various providers to get it enabled. Basically it's all good on their end to a degree but for a phone to operate on VoLTE the carrier provider (in this case Tmo) must also flip a switch on their end as well. So in the end yes it probably can but no clue if we will ever get it here in the states. The following is to a link that explains the current situation. http://www.xperiablog.net/2016/11/30/sony-to-add-volte-support-to-xperia-x-concept-shortly/
P.S. Side note the phone info does have a switch for enabling VoLTE provisioning. However for now it does nothing (simply switches back to default radio when exiting the screen).

Oddly enough the switch got turned on for Band 12 in the Chicago area today. And yes it works and it works on UK firmware too.

If you could answer couple of questions that would make things easier for me to get this phone.
1) So when your phone is on band 12 and you make a call, does it stay on that band or goes to band 4?
2) VoLTE is working properly?
3) Any word about having WiFi calling available?

Band 12 works fine. No volte. Other than that it's been flawless on tmobile!

I didn't know that it is possible to make a call on Band 12 when phone doesn't support VoLTE.

VoLTE?

Does anyone know if the the Pure edition is going to support VoLTE on T-Mobile?
Would love to see confirmation on this as well as the other T-Mobile special features like wifi calling and advanced text messaging. If it's missing all of these carrier features it's definitely less appealing.

WiFi calling will come via Android M.

Welp, this has suddenly become a more important question than anybody previously thought.
T-Mobile has, uh, gently persuaded Motorola to remove Band 12 support on the Moto E and G models because they don't support VoLTE. So if you're planning on using the X Pure on T-Mo in an area where they make extensive or exclusive use of Band 12, it's going to matter a whole lot whether it can do VoLTE or not--and from what Moto is saying off the record, getting T-Mo's certification for VoLTE is neither easy nor cheap.
The ball is sort of in Motorola's court now, but they're not talking...
oh and I asked same question didn't see your thread, I would love to know if volte advanced calling will work with VZW. I enjoy it a lot.
I just made a comment regarding this in someone else's thread as well.
I've posed the question directly to Motorola (as well as a couple of reviewer sites) a couple of times myself and received no response yet, which is leading me to believe it will not.
For me, this is a deal breaker, as my purpose of getting this phone was the freedom to move to any carrier/uncarrier. Having test driven T-Mobile just before they opened up the 700mhz band 12 spectrum, I already know the building penetrating alone is poor enough in Kansas City without it that it's not practical for me to make that transition. Then there's the semi spotty service in the more outlying areas, which a lot of will be resolved by the 700mhz spectrum.
John Legere made a comment on Twitter which also leads me to believe that this device will not support FULL VoLTE on the 700mhz spectrum.
The only possibility that keeps me hopeful, is that Motorola MAY have decided to pay T-Mobile for certification for this to get the proprietary info required for true, Full VoLTE on their network.

I'm thinking that it should be possible to enable band 12 through NV editing (assuming it doesn't work out of the box). Wifi calling is coming natively through the M update. If Moto is smart, they'll roll their 12/volte update in with it, or sooner than that. Either way, I don't think it should be too difficult to get it going.
Aaaaaand, here's the answer: Out of the box, the Pure will not support VoLTE, and Band 12 (700 MHz) is being disabled for T-Mobile. They "expect" to support those things in the future, which is not the same as promising to support them.

Just curious, what's your source of this info?
I'm on US Cellular which also uses Band 12 LTE for rural coverage, so this is kind of a big deal to me. They can't just block it on TMO, as there aren't carrier-specific variants, and we are the only other US carrier affected.

Thanks for the info! This is a sticking point for many USCC users, and is often debated. They will allow Nexus 6 devices and iPhones purchased as unlocked devices to be used on their network. This is a very new policy, and communication has not been very efficient. It seems only some reps know about this.
I believe they are confusing "unlocked" with the previous paradigm of "GSM-only unlocked/international", because they are activating the N6 and iPhones left and right. Sometimes you just have to call back and get a different person who is willing to punch in the IMEI. They are often surprised themselves when it works.
Everything I have read has pointed to the answer that yes, they will activate this device. Employees, radio specifications, press releases, and this recent shift in their policy are all strong indicators. But we'll see, I know a few people who have ordered the device already to use on USCC's network, so I will report back when we know for sure.

WiFi calling, VoLTE and Band 12 support for T-Mobile

Since some people are starting to receive their 6P's today figured I would ask if someone could check to see which of these are supported out of the box. I know on the 5X WiFi calling and VoLTE work but Band 12 does not. I figure the same for the 6P but given it ships a week later you never know.
There was a post by someone who got their hands on a device almost a week ago and he said that VoLTE and Wifi Calling works out of the box on T-Mobile, but there isn't band 12 support yet...I am sure we will get an update for that later like we did with the Nexus 6

I kinda figured it would be case considering the 5X is the same way. I guess it was wishful thinking that maybe the 6P would get it out of the box since it technically shipped a week later. I guess I can be patient. Looking to leave Verizon for T-Mobile but I know from friends that at least in Houston band 12 makes a huge difference so won't make the move until that is active.

On reddit AMA, a google rep said band 12 would be functioning by ship date. Seeing as the 6P has been shipping has anyone been able to confirm band 12 support?

Band 12 Support
This seems to confirm Band 12 support after the latest OTA:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/nexus-6p/600054-t-mobile-band-12-supported-project-fi.html
Granted it's on Fi, but given that Fi runs partially on T-Mobile's backbone, seems like good info.
I'm not seeing band 12 with the 6P on T-Mobile.
Odd that it works with Fi and not T-Mobile.
Tmo has coverage areas where they are on band 12 only and federal law requires that if the phone shows a signal it has to be able to place an emergency call. Since the 6P does not have VoLTE yet it can show a signal but be incapable of making that emergency call which is why the phone is coming with 12 disabled on Tmo but enabled on fi where the limitation does not exist.
My Nexus 6P is not picking up Band 12 nor using VoLTE with my Project Fi SIM card nor T-Mobile SIM card. And it downloaded an update immediately upon activation. However,my Nexus 6 will pick up Band 12 on both Project Fi and T-Mobile SIM cards. I think the folks who have said they have Project Fi working on Band 12 were not reporting specifically about a 6P. Just in general that Project Fi works with Band 12.
My 6P does now work with Tmo WiFi calling though. I hope the Band 12 gets enabled soon. And also VoLTE, which doesn't work on B4 either currently. It's one of the reasons I bought this phone.
My 6P is making VoLTE calls on T-Mobile.
Does VoLTE imply band 12? Have you received an OTA recently?
I did receive an OTA when I first started the phone. I have no way to test if Band 12 is enabled because Band 12 is not yet deployed in my area due to an active TV station.

VoLTE is required for T-Mobile to approve the enabling of Band 12 but having it active doesn't mean it's active yet which appears to be the case here. VoLTE works but I am guessing there is a wait for T-Mobile to certify the device. Project Fi can use it now since Google is an MVNO and likely decided they can always switch to Sprint if a user is on Band 12 and lacks the ability to call.
I only get band 4. I know I can get band 12 because my n6 got it. I do get HD calling which I assume is volte. And I do use WiFi calling

My phone doesn't want to enable WiFi calling. If it does decide to turn on, it has issues sending SMS, they fail. I did manage to fix all the issues by reseating my sim card, however the issues returned and wifi calling disconnected and hasn't come back since. This is really frustrating. I'm on MDB08K
FWIW, I'm currently on the phone with Google Tech Support. I don't get band 12 on either a T-Mo sim or Fi sim on my 6P. I, too, updated to MDB08K right out of the box. I believe I read on Reddit that someone dropped band 12 support after taking the update.
I tested this alongside my Galaxy S6, and that gets great band 12 reception. I might have Google send me a new device and refuse the update.
Wouldn't it be easier to flash factory image for that version to test?

Does Xperia X Compact support: VoLTE, Band 12 and WiFi Calling on T-Mobile?

Hi guys!
Was planning to buy Xperia X Compact, but need to find out if it supports T-Mobile features, such as Band 12, VoLTE and maybe WiFi Calling(not the priority for me). Any person tried this phone on T-Mobile?
I just got this phone yesterday and it's running fine on T-Mobile though I'm in a band 4 area right now. FrequencyCheck (https://www.frequencycheck.com/models/GNNDM/sony-xperia-x-compact-f5321-td-lte-sony-kugo-ss) says it supports band 12, but I have yet to experience it myself.

Technically speaking the phone does support it, but would be interesting to see if phone does support it on T-Mobile network.
Time will tell on this one. Tmobile has been picking up a lot of 700 mhz spectrum lately but it's not all deployed yet. I think it's mainly due to awaiting FCC approval.
Are you guys using the US version? I ordered the UK version and I'm sending the US back to Amazon because I want the fingerprint scanner. Don't feel like flashing the phone. I'm assuming they have the same bands for Tmobile. Well hopefully they are the same.

Hopefully nothing goes bad on you within the first year. You lose your warranty with the UK version. The US version is so incredibly easy to flash firmware. You just launch a program and click a few options.
Band 12 works fine for me. I believe the phone supports all T-Mobile LTE bands, I get pretty good speed tests too.
I don't know if or how wifi calling would work. I've never seen a way to get it on non T-Mobile branded devices, I would certainly be interested in enabling it though.

I think Nougat has wifi calling baked into Android itself if I remember correctly. So hopefully the update comes soon.
I'm debating on buying the X Compact or the X Performance. The Performance has a 5 inch screen, not much bigger than the Compact. Anyone with any thoughts on the X Performance ?

Can you test whether it actually supports VoLTE?
When connected to band 12, try making a call: if it drops to H+ then it supports band 12 but no VoLTE.
If it stays on LTE during the call, it actually works with VoLTE

In short, band 12 is a low frequency signal. The towers can broadcast huge coverage areas with the low frequency at the cost lower speed than their band 4 coverage areas. Band 12 for is great at penetrating buildings with thick walls.
Very few phones support this freq on T-mobile and I was hoping the mini could do it.

Are you testing it in the same place(s) you've had other phones show band 12 on LTE discovery? Officially it should work as of the Jan 2017 update. I'm pretty sure I have had it show band 12 when I was on stock (not rooted). I don't have a way to verify this now as my Mini is on LOS which currently does not support band 12 nor Wi-Fi calling. It's also my "secondary" phone until I get time to return it to stock (or LOS gets that functionality).

Does your phone stay on LTE when making a call (VOLTE)? If yes, the phone is working on band 12.
According to these website, the A7M should work with Band 12 and VOLTE & WFC:
https://www.androidpolice.com/2017/...ini-t-mobile-volte-december-security-patches/
http://www.spectrumgateway.com/compatible-phones
You need to make sure your phone is on at least the Dec update, if not newer.
Spectrum gateway is pretty reliable. I would use them as a first resource when considering a non-Tmo phone. I am supposed to receive this phone tomorrow. Will update if B12/VOLTE/WFC works...
I got the phone today. I can confirm that both VOLTE and WiFi calling work on TMobile after installing the update from the ZTE website here: https://www.zteusa.com/axon-7mini#support

Thank you. Yes it helps.
I did find a Kimoble post that lays out exactly which bands are supported with each service provider. In that I am with Virgin - I'm pretty sure we piggy back on Bell towers. I did an LTE Discovery and my present Virgin band was not one supported by Nothing.
Because Nothing does not officially support North America at this point - I think I'll wait and see if the 2 version will. Might be too much of a gamble for me on the 1 version.
I'm running it on Telus/Bell and it works with 5G too. It doesn't have all of the same bands so bandwidth is somewhat limited.
Also VoLTE and VoWIFI doesn't work - I've been trying to figure out if we can modify some of the files like you can do with OnePlus to get it working (I had it working at one point but took my SIM out and now it won't)
