It actually supports it. Confirmed it for myself while i had a G5+. Audio quality overall is great, either wired or using BT.

Awesome! Thanks for the reply.

just wanted to chime in with some proof. checked my bluetooth log with wireshark. screenshot in the attachment.
(Moto G5 Plus Lineage OS 14.1 Unofficial ROM, AudioMX AX-05 headphones)
aptX is indeed supported and enabled by default.

I'm in Italy, I don't have AT&T
I have one in Brazil XT1039 - TIM
I've got the XT1072 UK model. Found a couple of Titan roms that run fairly well on it apart from the lack of 4G.

Titan Prime, Quantum LP/OS and Radium LP run on the XT1072, it's not supported, I just wanted to see if any worked. Quantum LP worked perfect apart from a few small issues. No 4G obviously.
Roms that won't work shouldn't brick the device, they just won't flash in recovery.
On CM 12.1 now for Thea though. Pretty good.

That's definitely better, but it's still loud. Have you got the device yet? The first step for Ringtone and Notification is fine, anything above that is ridiculously loud. Unless it's my device, but It's not like it on stock firmware.
Audio FX doesn't seem to work, not that I use it, I use ViPER. Is there anyway you can make selinux permissive or will it break things?
Other than that, it's awesome. Music/Video playback is fine so far. Thanks.

They say that it is working now. I have the build 161117. The default camera does photos but not video. I get when filming that the microphone might be busy. So it works for some but not me.

Is it possible for you to update the OP? Because it still says that video recording isn't working properly, but now it is.
Furthermore, @Shreps asked you to point to the directory of his recovery(s): https://moto.shreps.fr/?dir=Moto G4 (athene)/recovery instead of to a single file. Or even better, to his thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=69472874
I think he's right...

Nice dog.
I downloaded some apps and they all fail but one.
Open camera with the sound disabled. So there is something going on with that. I can't figure out what could be using the microphone that blocks the default camera (and presumably all the others).
I really shouldn't steal the post with questions about how to check what could be using the microphone. Therefore slowmo with Motorola camera also works but not in hd mode.

Don't know what could be wrong on your side. I'd try a clean install once again. Wipe everything, including internal memory...
Otherwise, no clue... Send a logcat to @Silesh.Nair, so that he can use his magic wand!

I'v done the 19 clean again. Still same.
Used CatLog from the playstore. I see some camera errors but I honestly can't tell what is serious errors and what is warnings. I started the apps several times and trying to film to provoke the error so it would be in the log.

Oh that, I'm still writing about video recording. It's telling me that the microphone is busy. May bee that I only did the modem. There might be something more in the soak (I only did the modem) but I can do with silent film for a while. Haven't figured out a good way to restore stuff. I only record my running from biweekly anyway.
Thanks for your concren. To reply your link. I saw that funky Motorola camera stuff after trying out not having a top border, full screen settings. I just whent back to default and got it running non-funky again.

Reminder that AICP for Hydrogen is in nightly

Just a reminder for anyone looking for a stable Hydrogen 7.1.1 build the Android Ice Cold Project Rom is well in to their nightly build. The thread at https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-max/development/rom-android-ice-cold-project-12-1-t3513541 seems to be abandoned however, the project and current nightlies are not. I've been using RR-N nightly since 8th Feb & VoLTE has been working great but video call not fully though. Audio call over LTE is perfect but Video call I'm able to see & hear the other side but the receiver is not able to see me(only a black screen) & audio is not working. Going to try on my hydrogen next.

Or live in a place we're data is unstable at best. A shame really as only LG and HTC seem to have kept the fm radio chips.
The one time I definitely need FM radio is at the gym. A lot of gyms allow you to watch different channels by tuning in to different FM channels to watch TV while working out. I use Bluetooth wireless ear buds, and luv'em. I would like the option of tuning in with my phone (built-in antenna) and then bluetoothing to the ear buds. I know, so old-skool... get with the times... how would you achieve the same results? Any dongles/etc that would do the trick? Thanks in advance!

That actually never works. On devices that do actually have FM Radio, they won't allow you to connect to a normal Bluetooth device (like headphones) when FM Radio is active. Low-Energy devices such as smartwatches aren't affected by this.
Note that no phone has an integrated FM antenna; any phone with an FM tuner requires wired headphones to act as an antenna

I got the ZTE Maven 3 from Best Buy for $8. It seems to have a radio tuner. I'm sure most of the people here wouldn't consider using this super low end smartphone as their regular phone but using it for music, without a sim, seems to work well. For just over $20, I have a music player with 32 gigs for music.. It's only got 8 gigs internal storage, which is mostly occupied out of the box but thankfully it has a card slot.

Android O supports Aptx, you can't find these options on Nougat.
The ph1 doesn't support it but they're looking at it apparently
aptX worked with my Anker Soundbuds Curve, at least it seemed to. Unlike when I connect to my car, the aptX didn't automatically change in the Dev Options area when I was listening on the headset. Sound quality was good, but it's Bluetooth, so still noticeably not wired.

This. Also they said it's more of a licensing issue than a hardware/software issue.
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Yes, aptX is nothing but a codec. Purely software, but has to be licensed from Qualcomm. Plenty of devices use aptX even without Qualcomm processors (like Huaewi phones running HiSilicon chips and Samsung phones with Exynos chips).
I am really hoping it is supported in the final version of Oreo for Essential, licensed if necessary. Just started using my new Bluetooth headphones today, listening to FLAC, and had a few drops during some songs. I syncing some of the same songs to my HTC 10 tonight and will try to see if I can get an apt-X connection going tomorrow with the HTC and compare the results a bit. I really, really want to keep my beautiful Essential Phone, with its clean, stock OS and dialer that puts HTC to shame. I am not an audio expert, but I am sensitive to hearing new details or lack of...like I can't stand the compression of satellite radio. I wonder if Essential would have to license LDAC (Sony)?
