Charging query - Huawei P10 Plus Questions & Answers

Hey guys, i have a few questions regarding charging:
- I was wondering how fast the P10 plus charges with its included charger?
- Is it compatible with a quick charge 3.0 charger ?Have your tried using one? Would it charge just as fast?
- How about using a powerbank how long does it take to charge?
I just wanted to get an idea because the phone i have right now charges super slow (almost 3 hours) . It would be nice to have a fast charging capable phone, less than 2 hours would be even better! Thanks and cheers!

Full charge completed in about an hour.

I believe the phone is using the same SuperCharge technology as the Mate 9. Not sure if any power banks support it yet. But QuickCharge ought to work a bit faster, then regular charging? Don't quote me on that though.

Anyone an idea if you can disable the Quickcharge function? I reckon if not needed, it will be always better for your battery to charge it slowly.

Change the usb cable with normal one it will charge slowly

Think my post on this subject in the P10 forum may be of help/interest as it applies to the P10+ as well... Especially to clarify the non compatibilty with Qualcomm Quick chargers
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72386219&postcount=3
Incidentally, for the nerds amongst us (is that all of us? Lol!) the theoretical fastest time to charge the P10+ from flat would be 50 minutes on a Super charger (3750mAh battery with a 5V4.5A/4.5V5A charger).
I've seen rates of well over 1% per min on my P10 to start with, although this drops as the battery gets over 90%, but I'd be suprised if it would take more than 90 mins unless the phone was being used heavily at the same time.
Around an hour would be a very good time overall, probably a more average time would be around 75 mins

Thanks, yes! I already noticed this 'solution'.
So far, I can't find a software solution to disable it.

Battery Charging taking too long!

The S2 takes forever to charge the battery. Coming fron the iphone 4 i suspect this takes ay laeast twice as long to charge!
Considering the battery performance isnt that great, this is a double whammy!
What do you guus think?

Yeah, I noticed the same thing. I'm always charging it when I'm at home to keep it fully charged, in case I'm going out.
charging takes me about 3hours (from empty). It is stanrard time
Same here for charging. Between 3 & 4 hours. But battery life is getting better especially if i disable 3G and wifi

Im using nokia charger 1.2A and HTC charger 1A and also i have 0.7A all of them takes about 3 hours may be hardware bug?
I've been using a BB charger for it, and thought maybe that was the reason. Glad to know it isn't.

Yep, I confirm.
Charging takes around 3 hours.
I can use it almost 48 hours before it needs to be charged again. So it is not really annoying.
Stock SGS 2 with official battery charger and a full drained empty battery 3.5 hours to charge to 100% .

About 3 hours here which is fine, charging from the supplied charger connected to electricity mains. Are you charging via the USB connector? It will take a lot longer, something called trickle charge or something like that.

No it takes the normal time but if its to slow for you dont drain it or sell it .

I noticed this when my brother bought the same phone. His takes a ridiculous amount of time to charge, maybe 1% per 10 mins or so and it gets really hot while doing so.
Mine on the other hand doesn't get hot at all and charges at least 3 times faster than his.
please state charge state, ages, fast normal etc.
firmware and revison thanx
The charger shipped with my S2 has only 700mA...
especially if you are using the phone (worst: gaming) while charging it seems to get never finished . I guess the current drain doesn't left much for the charging.
So i'm using my old HTC-chargers (one AC=>USB and AC=> MicroUSB) witch both supplies 1000mA.... ~43% more in theory
Hard to say how big the advantage is in fact, but it makes a difference.
Also keep in mind, that a standard USB-Port supplies max. 500mA, depending on other USB-devices even much less. I also read that the charging result is "better" if you not using it in the meantime.
You can buy USB-Chargers up to 2100mA (e.g Amazon), but i have doubts that this will be improve the charging time because on the type-label behind the battery is written Rated : 3,7V-1000mA. Even more current wouldn't not damage the device (afaik!!!), the device or the battery could not charge faster.
Maybe somebody knows about what is meant by the the 1000mA exactly. Would be nice if the device could be charge a little bit faster.
Otherwise i am going to buy a 2nd battery with an external charger.
greetings
I found this on Android Forum

USB charging is slow on the S2 as it uses trickle charging
"Trickle" is an exaggeration.
The phone can tell whether it's connected to USB or a mains charger. If the latter, it limits charge current to 650mA. If the former 400mA.
It will charge faster on the mains but not loads faster.

My other cell phones are fully charged in 2 hours, more or less. And yes, I'm considering selling it, because I like to use my gadgets and the SGSII doesn't admit an intensive use without running out of battery, unless you have a second battery.

Yeah, I do sleep more than 3.5 hours per day and I try to charge it every night, but the problem is when the phone runs out of battery in the middle of the day and you don't have 3.5 to spend in charging it fully.
I think the iphone 4 is only a 1420Mah battery if I remember correctly while ours is 1650. Sure, it takes perhaps another hour to charge but I don't find it a big deal. It does appear that the first 50% charges faster then the second half as well but that could just be my imagination.
I have read that Samsung phones charge slower so that the battery life will be longer than that of those other phones such as HTC where the phone charges a lot faster. I'd rather get another year out of my battery and it take longer but do admit 3.5 hours does seem like a while.
this topic has been covered. teh SGS2 battery driver is capped at 650 mA for wall charging, 450 mA for USB charging. this code resides in the battery driver.
someone could compile a new kernel with this value raised. other phones like the nexus one charge at 980 mA for wall charger, 480 for USB.
samsung capped charge current, likely for heat issues, nobody really knows.
same. take long time to charge and heating if charge n gaming. the hottest spot at camera side

[Q] Charging

Hey all, haven't been able to find an answer for this. So I'll open a new thread. Now the question. The phone seems to take a long time to charge. Is it possible for me to use my Note 4's quick charger or can anyone recomend a faster charger for this phone? Charging it with Note 4's 2a charger wont damage the battery? Thank you.
I use a 2.1 out and it charges in about an hour and a half
Charging isn't fast and it seems that if the phone gets warm, it draws less power then too - so on a warm day, it can feel like it's taking years.
Would have been nice to have had wireless charging support and/or turbo charging, but alas not.

Doesn't the phone support quick charging? But Huawei haven't bundled the appropriate charger?
Doesn't appear to. I've got a Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 adapter and it doesn't seem any faster, nor say fast charging.
There's a quirk, when the battery shows 100% it actually still keep charging for another 30 minutes. All tests showed that it took 3hours+ to fully charge it. So quick charge my ass.
So just to update, I have tried charging it with note 4's fast charger and it charges the phone from 20 to 100% in about an hour and a half. Which imo isn't that bad. With the included charger, it took me around 2 and a half hours... Huawei really should have included a charger with higher amp, 1 is way to low.

It's sadly very common for phones to ship with poor chargers (1A and even lower), but then again - some phones these days come with NO charging adapter, assuming you'll have a ton of them anyway.
I use a 2.1A 5V charger, but I've tried the faster ones (that can output 9V) and it doesn't speed things up, so while it can charge faster with a better PSU, it won't ever charge as quick as many other flagships. Mind you, has the G4 been given full support yet? Likewise, the Z3 is down as supporting Quick Charge 2.0 on Qualcomm's website, but then turns out to be only some variants. Makes me wonder if the Z3+ supports it in every guise.
Not sure what the reasoning is for devices that could support faster charging not actually allowing it, especially if the manufacturer could profit from selling faster chargers separately.

I read an article about Huawei declining fast-charge for "battery-purposes" so it can have a longer life cycle. But i think Huawei made an exception about the Huawei Honor 7.
I had an Samsung before and never had problems with fast-charging whatsoever.
My P8 was full in about 2 hours with an 2.1 A charger, while my Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 took 1,5 hours.
the screenshoot took from Huawei P8 & P8 Max Launching Event 2015 said that p8 has quick charge at min 21.30 but they didnt talk about that in the event

I think this adaptor isn't safe to p8max.. I will try another charger but only 5v with higher amp that will be safe for sure
Now i charge with stock from 3%to100% in about 2.5 h and the phone didn't tell me to remove charger for more half ahour!!

What is the Battery Charging time with included Fast Charger for Z3+?

Hi, I bought Z3+ two days ago. Fast Charger is taking around 2 hours 15 mins to full charge the phone in switch on mode. Is it the actual time to charge it with Fast Charger?
If I connected it to PC USB Cable, the charging time is very slow. Is there is any tips improve it?
Thanks in advance
What fast charger are you using? 2:15 sounds reasonable to me though I never really stopped time on a quick charge 2.0. PC usb Ports output 500 mA, which is far less than even the stock sony charger outputs, so no there is no way to speed that up.

I use quick charger to charge my Z3+ almost every day.. The charging rate is around up 1% per minute.. Usually I turn off the phone while doing so because using quick charger makes the phone quiet hot compared to when using normal charger, and that makes the charging rate just a bit more faster..

Sorry, If "Fast Charger" is diff from "Quick Charger". I have received Quick Charger bundled with Z3+ which is taking more than 2 hours for full charge the phone.
Is it saying "quick charge 2.0" somewhere on the charger? It's a brand by Qualcomm and is faster than just a charger with high Ampere.
The point is that the charge which bundled with Z3+ just a normal charger!! ( well if you think it is)
All you need is a charger with qc2.0
Yep, although QC will wear out your battery faster.

I don't see the QC logo and quick charge 2.0 on your pic. And fast charge is not quick charge. My fast charge completed in about 2.5 hours. My quick charger does it in just over an hour. So I also got a quick charge battery booster as well. Both are by anker and I got on Amazon. Well worth it.

I think the charger is really a quick charger since it have multiple output settings.. But I have read on one of the threads here that QC2.0 does not much boost the charging time of Z3+.. Specially the dual sim variant.. Remember that sony only said that the single variant is the only one that is QC2.0 compatible..
I have encountered a problem with the charging speed of my Xperia Z3+. I have got the single SIM variant and according to the internet it should support QC 2.0. But in reality when I want to charge my device it doesn't feel like QC 2.0. For comparison I have downloaded an app called Ampere on my Z3+ and my Z3 Tablet Compact (its chipset also supports QC2.0 and it seems to work flawlessly) and it displays the current charging flow speed if I'm not wrong. I will attach two screenshots, the higher number of flow is from the tablet and the other of course from my Z3+. Anybody know what might be the problem? I have used the same charger with the same cable.

Fast Charge on regardless of disabling it?

I have tried multiple 2.0 chargers (OEM and Stalion), and it seems my phone always wants to Fast Charge, regardless of disabling it under Settings. Sometimes it will honor the setting, but most of the time not.
Anybody else have this issue? I am aware I can just use a regular charger and it will force cell to charge normal rate, but did not know if this was maybe firmware related. I am on PB5.
Do you mean QuickCharge 3.0 charger? Our phones can only do up to QC 2.0 (9V), which is still a very rapid charge. QC 3.0 is very similar to QC 2.0 but charges in more fine grain steps so it can charge even faster.
I don't have the answer to your question though. Mine seems to be doing fine when I choose not to use QC feature. This was with PB5. I'm now on the latest firmware and didn't try using the normal speed charging. It's just too slow, but I would use a regular 5V charging if I do it overnight.
I just keep a fan next to where I charge my phone (with QC 2.0) and use that fan to cool the phone. It keeps the battery temperature in check.

Thanks for replying. I forgot that S7E OEM charger is only 2.0. Thanks for clarification. I have only 2.0 chargers, I just brainfarted.
The issue I have is on both 2.0 OEM and Stalion chargers, so it points to a cell issue. I charge mine overnight normally, so I don't really need the QuickCharge capabilities, plus batteries normally last longer when getting a slower charge - not sure if that applies to S7E as well. Plus if a battery temp can be lowered charging one method compared to QuickCharge, I would think the battery life should be longer. That's my opinion, though it would be nice to know for certain.
Good idea on fan as I am sure every little bit counts Hopefully someone can chime in that can try QC 2.0 OEM charger with QuickCharge disabled a few times, as it works here and there but normally does not honor the Disabled setting.

Battery lasting longer - you mean the life of the battery, or hours per charge? I don't think using 9V or 5V has any effect on how full it really fills it up. As long as you keep it long enough after it shows 100%. I think of it like filling up gas for your car, quick charge just fills it up quicker and it may bubble but if you do it long enough it should have the same amount fuel in the tank. If you have a USB volt-amp meter you'll notice once the phone reaches 80% it slows down the charge current.
I know some believe that charging slowly will increase the life of the battery but how slow is slow enough, I don't know. Some believe too slow might cause crystallization. I don't know which would apply, but I'm pretty sure the heat will kill the battery.
At one point I even used a 0.8A charger which is the weakest one I can find in my collection. With that there's almost no heat but charges really slow. lol.
If you are charging overnight why not just get an extra normal charger that doesn't have the QC capability? I thought everyone has enough 5V standard USB charges laying around nowadays, from Apple products and all the past phones...
Keep the OEM fast charger for emergencies or travel or on the go or in the car. Because when you are traveling you'll want to charge as quickly as you can even though it could cook the battery a little bit.
Sorry I can't be any help and I'm really not answering to your original question.
No, you made good points man. Really appreciate it

Charging speed

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Phone charges slow. My watt meter doesn't get anything over 13.3watts. Note 5 could easily hit 15watts.
Phone charges MUCH slower than my OnePlus 5, same chip, but Note only has quickcharge 2.0 for some reason, whilst the OP% has their version of quick charge 4, dash charging, which is insanely faster.
So slow -_-
Battery is way too small !!
Around 1000 mA or considerably less with screen on around 2000 mA with screen off (AccuBattery).
Anyone knows the exact model of the black EU Note 8 official charger please? And how many watts?
This is unacceptable charging speeds.... at 42% an hr and 5 mins?!!?
It takes about 1:40 hrs to charge from 3% to 100% on my phone. I wish it was faster but I really don't mind it.
Wireless Charging takes way longer than through USB
anyone else getting better battery life after disabling fast charging?
It's about 1 hr 45 mins to charge it from 1% to 100%. Don't believe some reviews online. Especially the one posted by Danny Widget. I am not sure what issue caused that but I'm pretty sure it's faster than that.

Using the essential quick charger. I get from 1% to 100% in 40 minutes.
From essential phone? What's the wattage?
I got a 3.0 charger and type c cable and my phone charges much faster than the plug and cable it came with. Invest in one people. I called Samsung mobile support yesterday and asked them does it support 3.0 QC and they said yes. I know it's been going around that it does not but it does.

I seem to get better battery life. I disabled it 2 days after owning it. Not sure if that makes a difference. Would like to see if anyone else is seeing the same.
You know what all day I have been doing research on the Note 8 and 3.0 Quick Charge. Samsung told me that the Note8 supports 3.0 QC. But everything else I have read says no it has 2.0. Which sucks because my V20 had 3.0 QC. I am telling you my V20 charged faster way faster than the Note8. But my battery life is way better with the Note8. I usually don't have to charge my Note8 at all throughout the day. So does it really matter? No but it does suck that Samsung has not stepped up their game and put 3.0 QC on this 1,000 dollar phone.
