[TUTORIAL] Unbricking VNS-L21/VNS-L31 - Huawei P9 Lite Questions & Answers

Hello everyone! I know there are a lot of threads and comments about unbricking your device but in order to get you on track quicker then anything else and point you to the right direction i`m writing this tutorial which i find is quite successfull. This tutorial was made basically on my personal experience and with the help of some advices and suggestions.
First of all there are some questions that you must ask and answer yourself in order to do everything correct:
1. Do i have unlocked bootloader and frp? If yes, continue reading. If no, read Important note 2!
1.1. Do i have access to stock/custom recovery? If yes then continue to read.
1.2 Do i have problems mounting partitions with Revolution Recovery? If yes, read Important note 1!
3. Do i have installed SDK Platform Tools (ABD and FASTBOOT)? If no then download from here (Always use the latest version!!!)
4. Do i have installed HiSuite? If no then download it from here.
Okey mate if all your answers are Yes then follow Guide 1!
5. If you think your device don`t have access to these then read and follow Guide 2!
For those of you with locked FRP you can check this website and see if it helps!
How to get into fastboot?
Variant 1
Hold down (VOL-) + POWER when connected to PC!
Variant 2
1.Start HiSuite.
Step 2 (Click for image preview)
Step 3 (Click for image preview)
Turn off your phone and then by holding down (VOL-) + POWER connect usb to the pc!
! Important note 1 !
If you can`t mount partitions then the thing you must do is go to Revolution Recovery then do as i say:
Wipe -> Advanced Wipe -> Select partitions one at a time! -> Repair or change file system -> Change file system -> F2FS -> Then go back -> Select EXT4 -> And voila u`re done!
! Important note 2 !
Okay easy way to find out is if you see warning screen about unlocked bootloader then it is unlocked so it is frp. If you go to fastboot and you see Bootloader: unlocked/frp: unlocked but you don`t see the warning screen then my friend u`re not unlocked! Quickly open up the console window connect to fastboot and type:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock <your unlock code here>
Easy, a?
GUIDE 1
First of all download these files in order to continue. (Place them somewhere easy to find! )
Recovery - Revolution Recovery NOUGAT
(I can guarantee you that this version works that`s why i used her in this tutorial! METICULUS was not working for me it doesn`t even started at first place.)
Stock OEM info - Download
Stock ROM - L21C432B130
1. Open up fastboot then flash Revolution Recovery from the zip.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery_twrp.img
2. Start up Revolution Recovery by connecting your device to the PC and holding down (VOL +) + (VOL -) + POWER
3. Flash Stock OEM info from the zip via Revolution Recovery. Make sure when installing it the result was Successfull!!!
4. Remove usb cable from PC and Shutdown the device via Recovery and don`t plug the cable or start the phone!
4. Get your SD Card ready and plugged to the PC then Create a New Folder named "dload" in the root directory of the SD Card and paste update.app file in there!
How it should look in the Micro SD Card: dload -> update.app
5.Place the SD Card in the phone
6. Start the phone!
7. Okay logo is there showing up wait about 1 - 2 minutes and phone will be automatically starting to update from SD Card. When it is done it will restart the phone. Make sure at the moment when it does and screen goes black, hold down VOL UP!
8. Format data and cache!!! If you skip this part there will be a bootloop!
9. Voila. You got your device unbricked and aliveeeeeeee :highfive::highfive::highfive:
That was the easy part! If u`re unlucky enough for Guide 2 well my friend get some coffee and play some calming music list!
GUIDE 2 (When no one can help you but you :silly
First of all you should know that every case is different from one another but everything comes to one mission. Access to fastboot or access to custom recovery in order to unbrick. I will give you steps which I did when I bricked my device and I had no fastboot access, no access to stock or custom recovery, no erecovery access and no wi-fi upgrade.
So what I experienced?
You see logo but only that. Warning screen saying bootloader is unlocked. When you see warning screen u`ve got a choice what to do – Press to enter recovery, press to continue booting etc. None of that. When I was connecting the usb cable to the PC no detection at all. No working key combinations.
1. DRAIN BATTERY! REALLY. IT`S THAT SIMPLE. Leave the device on and put it in a shelf or something like that so you can`t see it and can`t touch it. 2-3-4-5 days. (I left mine for 2 weeks! :laugh The battery must be that empty that when you try to power it up only power icon shows up or nothing shows up at all.
2. When u`ve done with Step 1 get a laptop or a PC with freshly installed Windows or Linux.
3. Install SDK Platform Tools (ABD and FASTBOOT) the newest version from their website!
4. Install HiSuite from their respective website!
5. So now when you`re all done with installing the requisites get your phone in your hands plug the usb cable in the phone and then hold down (VOL -) + POWER when plugging it to the PC or laptop.
6. Believe me. It should get into fastboot. I`m 99% sure. If all the steps I wrote are done correct!
Why should battery be drained at ZERO?
I will tell you the truth – I don`t know. Really. But all I know is that it`s kind of a switch. When something goes wrong draining the battery will clear something that it shouldn’t be there.
If this tutorial helped you then click Thank you so i can count how many good things i`ve done in my life he he! If i didn`t helped you then don`t stop reading until you find the solution! Good luck!
How did you unbricked your device? Tell us here and help others do the same!

Is there a special reason why we should use a Nougat Recovery? I'm on C432B160 and have tried the change filesystem thing with METICULUS Recovery and well... it didn't work

Thank you!
Created an account just to say thanks for this! I've have spent hours and hours trying to unbrick my phone..

Good question! The reason i told everyone to use there version and this custom recovery is because METICULUS is not working at least didn`t for me! It didn`t even started at first place! Nougat is preferable because a lot of people get in trouble when they upgrade to Nougat and then try to downgrade that`s one of the reasons too. So my advice is try Nougat custom recovery for your case! Good Luck and best wishes

Yes of course there will be no trouble at all but instead of METICULUS recovery use the one i posted here! You have access to fastboot and unlocked bootloader so just follow the steps from number 4! If this doesn`t work you can try to flash http://consumer.huawei.com/bg/support/products/downloads/detail/huawei-p9lite-bk.htm?id=93797 this rollback package and via the method with SD Card and then flash stock rom from the link above! :highfive:
Good luck and i`m waiting for the result! :highfive:

Okay. First of all buy a decent Micro SD Card at least 6gb of storage! This is one of the most important things i forgot to tell here. Decent means famous brand like Kingston or Philips or something like that because other then this will fail! After that do you have access to fastboot? If you have fastboot then type "fastboot oem unlock <your unlock code>" If you don`t know it i can help you with that! After that flash the recovery i posted and try to fix the partition by the way i explained above. Then follow the last steps for preparing the SD and flashing the ROM. Good Luck my friend:highfive:

I´m facing the same poblem. Bootloop with Bootloader locked, FRP locked, battery empty. I can get into fastboot mode but no chance of flashing anything. USB debugging seems to be deactivated. I cant charge the battery because as soon as I connect the phone to a powersource its starts the bootloop. Force flashing via sd card (volume up and down plus power) doesn´t seem to work either (guess due to the low battery).
Any suggestions are much appreciated.

[SOLVED] i9020t - Hard bricked! bootloader not flashing - need ops file

Mistakenly I replaced /dev/mtd/mtd0 partition with dd command.

Am able to get into fastboot mod by using AdamOutler's Unbrickable mod applcation. But flashboot flash bootloader giving error
Code:
sending 'bootloader' (1536 KB)...

Even tried with ODIN (without re partitioning) , but it also failed when flashing bootloader.
I think I need to re-partition my device. Any one have (or know to generate) odin partition system file ?
Any other way or work around ?
* Am in india, and I dont think samsung sells I9020T here.
* I saw the post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=947950
but i couldnt find necessary files there.
EDIT:
I able to fix it.
If you want to know how I fixed it, here is it.
1. Boot into fastboot mod via unbrickable mod application.
2. fastboot boot stock-recovery.img
3. flash stock rom
4. everything will be fixed.
What did you do to get your phone "bricked?" So you cannot get into the bootloader at all? Are you sure its download mode you are getting to? It is really really hard to brick a Nexus s...
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
As long as you can get into download mode and your computer will recognize the phone you're not bricked. From download you can reflash all the files to get the phone back up and running through Odin.
I am not able to flash bootloader. Even odin fails to flash it. I think I need to re partition my device. But OPS file is not available any where. If you know how to make it, plase help me.
Is there any way to format the bootloader partition ? (using fastboot) ?

B : try again ...and wait for image UnBrickable to change..than press ...Downloade Mode ...... you'll see ( where it was Device not found, No device detected ) fastboot fastboot mode ...right now tape into terminal :
# ./fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
...you will see that copy something
# ./fastboot flash boot boot.img
..you will see that copy something
# ./fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
...you will see that copy something
- now you can go into recovery to flash your favorite system....100% works !!!
A : ( attention! you do not need to touch any key in your device : just open Ubuntu....and in terminal comm write :

passw : ( write your password)
># java -jar UnBrickableResurrectorR40.jar
- Select "S5PC110 (Nexus S)"
- connect USB cable
- put the battery back
and wait ....after a few seconds you will see img. UnBrickable changed , now follow the above instructions ..(B)....).
Good luck ! for me it works very nice !
If this does not work , you have only solutions : remove the battery from your phone , and leave it two or three days , than you can go to (A) than (B)

I used 'flash bootloader' earlier also, it is not flashing. Giving some write failed error. That is my problem.
I've had the same thing happen... no matter what degree of flashing, which steps taken, NONE of the so called 100% working fixes take... phone gets stuck and hangs in the google bootloader screen.... NO RECOVERY AT ALL....
All the packs and ODIN techniques over the web seem to fail and NOTHING else but the proper files seem to be the last hope...
Once in awhile, one can get into fastboot... but any attempts to load recovery directly land flat and hard back on the google boot screen and don't budge... it's like the fastboot flash operations never happened... or some other error of enigmatic mystery thwart all attempts to get this rather expensive paperweight to revive...
There's gotta be some way to fix this!!
Anyone? please and thanks!

LG LGMS550 Stylo 2 Plus?

Just delete this if it's considered in the wrong place. If and when is the the Stylo 2 Plus getting its own forum and has anyone come up with an exploit for rooting this phone yet?
Hiya
Yes this is the wrong place. This is for the g stylo not the stylo 2 plus as can be seen in the name of the forum.
No there is not an exploit yet. Kingroot, kangoroot, one clove root, etc all do not work yet. Soon i would imagine
I even have trouble looking on the web for things because it seems we share a model number ms550 with the lg optimus m. Weird
You think my signature would say I probably know this. Granted, I haven't worked for them in a while, for XDA, even longer. I was talking to the mods of the forum, sorry, if I confused you.

I can't boot TWRP by command line or by recovery key sequence. I have flashed recovery with this TWRP image that I got directly from @messi2050 today, 1/18/2017. If I "adb reboot recovery", I get the Android crash screen - the android laying down, red triangle. My phone is a t-mobile stylo 2 plus K-550. I'm sure I followed every step in the process correctly. If there is another thread that addresses this problem, can you direct me to it please? I can't start my own thread because I'm too new, but the most relevant recent thread regarding this is locked. Yes I have rooted another phone before without a problem(Samsung). Thanks in advance for your help.

Fastboot said it flashed successfully. It copies the file, says it's ok. I would think if it didn't flash, it would fail the fastboot flash command. So is my phone jacked? I've read about how Android can rewrite the recovery partition as a security measure, or disable flashing by other means. Some kind of added security possibly?
Why would it say OK when I flash recovery, but NOT actually flash it?

Fastboot said it flashed successfully. It copies the file, says it's ok. I would think if it didn't flash, it would fail the fastboot flash command. So is my phone jacked? I've read about how Android can rewrite the recovery partition as a security measure, or disable flashing by other means. Some kind of added security possibly?

It was something I found in another tutorial when I started trying other things, since the "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" was not getting me past the standard Android recovery. I'm about to try the file you sent me last night. I'll let you know the result.

Android version 6.0.1
Android security patch level 2016-08-01
Kernel version 3.18.20
Windows 7 Pro x64
The recovery.img you sent also said it flashed, but I got to the same Android factory reset screen after the key press procedure (volume down, power, release power, repress power, release all)
Here's the latest:

Once you boot into recovery, let the screen fully dim, do not touch it... once the screen is completely blacked out, turn it back on and all touch features will be up and running... and don't mess with the adoptable storage feature..migrating data.. because TWRP will not recognise any data if you have this enabled.

If you are downgrade that could be a fix to lock down the recovery
I have successfully enabled usbotg on the LG Stylo 2 plus who wants to know how I did it? Usbhost mode..mount
Usb pendrive-

FOLLOW THESE STEPS TO ENABLE FULL OTG SUPPORT
1-in root explorer go to:

then-/sys/devices/soc/78db000.usb/dpdm_pulldown_enable edit disabled to enable.. plug in otg cable..

First relax, take a deep breath in and smile. This method restored few phones and can be tried on every Huawei phone.
Second, hold volume-down+power and connect USB via PC. Means enter "bootloader"
Then pick up any old stock firmware of your region from this thread
Third unzip and rename folder to suit your model.
Fourth FASTBOOT.EXE FLASH ZIP UPDATE.APP and take a cup of tea or beer. Let all the error messages pass of.
Fifth, remove your ext_sd card and copy this extracted folder into root directory.
Sixth FASTBOOT.EXE REBOOT
It won't boot but will surely go to recovery, factory reset. Reboot.
Seventh, here is the main thing, hold volume-up+power till recovery shows updating
Eight, allow to update and get into the normal mode.
You will get your HUAWEI MATE 8 working in mint condition.
If this works, press the thanks button and rate this thread 5 stars.

Another simplistic method if you are able to boot to your working rom.
2846579
Manufacturers port
Check your region
Then fastboot flash recovery recovery.img of existing 4.1 or 5.0 Rom.
Reboot.
Sdcard dload
2846579
Sdcard upgrade
And you are back to stock.
Do whatever you want to do, mate, but dont flash nougat rom this month!
Thanks. Will come in handy.
Think for yourself. Question authority.
This method also locks your bootloader without a trace of relock bootloader

Buddy, I had a tough time to roll back from nougat to my own firmware because of local power cuts affecting the process and I bricked.
I logged in DC account and even downloaded Phoenix software but thought let's try.
Aloha! I was successful
Had few gulf sets lying as bricks at my friend's shop and tried in those and they also booted up.

Hi there! Thx for the instructions but unfortunately it's not working as intended.
After the Step FASTBOOT FLASH ZIP UPDATE.APP i get this output: see attachment.
Then the device reboots normally after FASTBOOT REBOOT
Does the bootloader need to be unlocked?
I really like to go back to Version B180 for my mate. As hassle free as possible.
Thx in advance
Daniel

Thx for the quick reply.
I did all that, but the only options i get are:
- normal recovery with reboot, factory reset and wipe cache
- or eRecovery when still connected to USB with the option to connect to wifi and download the latest package, which fails.
Other than that it's just a normal factory reset and the B320 Firmware boots just fine and welcomes me with the first start wizard.
My device is not really bricked. I just want to downgrade, maybe that doesn't work this way.
Also after the FASTBOOT FLASH ZIP UPDATE.APP there is:
...
writing zip..
FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)<--- this makes me wondering somethings not right, is it? This should at least work?
finished. total time: 12.077s

Will try this after my Honor 8 gets charged.
It was bricked when updating from B162 (MM) to B320 (Nougat). Booting logo is the only one I could get, unless entering fastboot mode with holding vol- plus power keys when connected to a running computer. Three buttons (the above two plus vol+)results in bootloop as well.
Battery gets depleted unless charging when in fastboot & rescue mode. I'm going to charge it now (again).
BTW DC-Un... showed it was on B162.

Hello dude,
sorry if i wrote this but you posted in a wrong place.
You should have posted in questions&answers main thread,
as you can see this is guides, news and discussion thread.
Ask some moderator to move it to the correct thread ..
You could, perhaps, add some information on how the device ended up in this condition ..
What firmware was the last working?
Do you have a twrp recovery? if yes which version?
I tried to install twrp but I messed around. i tried several firmware but they didn't boot. I can't get into recovery, it just goes into fastboot

Ok Domenico,
fastboot commands should be sufficient to restore the device,
but you should say which was the last stock / custom working firmware,
(ex. VNS-L31C432B380 or ex. LineageOS 14.1) or at least the android version.... 6 / 7.
Cheers

Domenico, this is not possible.
B130 is a basic version of android 6.
Android 7 starts from B3xx and above...
Is your device single or dual sim ?
I can provide you a firmware, but it's a bit dangerous
to use without right knowledge of actual firmware version.
Make a little effort and try to remember ..

As you told me you probably had the B389 firmware,
so i will provide you that one...
From your PC download those three files..
1 - update.zip
2 - update_data_full_public.zip
3 - update_full_VNS-L11_hw_eu.zip
Rename file 2 from update_data_full_public TO update_data_public.
Rename file 3 from update_full_VNS-L11_hw_eu TO update_all_hw.
Let file 1 the same name.
Download THIS SCRIPT (HuRUpdater0.4zip file).
Create a folder and rename it VNSL31C432B389.
Copy all 4 file you downloaded into the folder you created (VNSL31C432B389)
If you want keep TWRP (now recommended),
copy the .img file of the recovery into that folder, otherwise proceed with instruction...
Copy your VNSL31C432B389 folder into the SD card of the phone..
Reboot into the twrp, hit install, find out your folder (VNSL31C432B389),
choose only HuRUpdater0.4.zip file and let it flash.
You may have to follow some instructions on screen if needed, flashing could take many minutes, keep calm...
When rebooting, device could go in a bootloop !!!
If after 20 minutes it hadn't booted, press vol+ and power till it reboot into recovery.
Make a factory reset and everything should be good. Good luck...
I would recommend to read at least a couple of times before do... take your time...

Stuck on Bootloop and Flashtool doesn't work...any XDA superheroes out there?

I followed step by step: https://clickitornot.com/install-twrp-recovery-and-root-sony-xperia-x-compact/
(the xda guides lingo was hard to understand and follow, I'm a noob at rooting sony phones. I don't have previous knowledge so I followed the above)
-Got stuck in TWRP recovery mode after following the link posted.
-Looked into it and read something about a boot.img missing?
-Downloaded boot.img from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/x-compact/how-to/stock-8-0-root-recovery-t3747479
-Flashed recovery on boot_32.img via TWRP, now screen stays at white Sony logo. Cannot go into TWRP at all, computer doesn't recognize phone and Sony flash tools does not recognize phone.
I just need this phone to root and turn on so I can get my old photos and conversation back. :crying:
Been stuck for 12 hours...any help is much appreciated!
1 - what do you ultimately want, rooted stock rom, custom rom, or...?
2 - what was the state of your phone when you started, (fully stock, which fw version, etc)?
3 - Did you do anything else to it besides flashing twrp and flashing boot.img?

1. Anything, I simply just need it to work so I can use a software to get my lost data. In order to get my data back the phone needs to be rooted under the prerequisites for the Dr. Fone software.
2.Fully stock android 8.0
3. No, it was fine and I went through dozens of threads and youtube tutorials. It kept going into TWRP exclusively until I flashed boot.img now it just boot loops or crashes on the white sony screen.
(BTW, my phone finally has been recognized by Flash Tools (Emma). I have updated it via Emma but it has done absolutely nothing.

So the whole Emma process completed successfully, but the phone still won't boot? That's strange, because Emma usually overrides everything, (including your userdata, I think, so if you wanted to save it, that may have been the wrong thing to do). If all you did was flash a bad boot img, then re-flashing stock fw should solve the problem, but you might lose your data with Emma, so Androxyde Flashtool might be better choice, since it gives you the option.
Did you unlock the bootloader? If not, then nothing is going to work. If you did, then it will be easy to get the phone booted again...

For TWRP recovery, you need to flash via fastboot. I wasn't clear what you were saying about how you did it before. You should,
- Download TWRP img file (there is official TWRP for xc, so download the latest from TWRP site)
- Open command prompt in the directory you downloaded it to
- Connect the phone in fastboot mode, (power off > hold volume up while connecting cable and don't let go of the button until you see blue led)
- Type
Code:
fastboot flash recovery (name of file).img
Then you can boot into recovery by powering off, and holding volume down while powering on. Then do a reset in recovery.
Now you'll need to flash a boot img...
You said it was stock 8.0, but do you know if it was the latest update? (fw ending in. 118) If so, and if your system files are still intact, then you should be able to download this - https://mega.nz/#!14VkzCCB!GK-KEv0A-ZyhysXc1-IusyJjJEB-D5ZWOLm1DRt31tA - (it's a boot img), and flash it with fastboot. So,
- Download the boot img file
- Open a command prompt in the directory you downloaded it
- Connect the phone in fastboot mode, (power off > hold volume up while connecting cable and don't let go of the button until you see blue led)
- Type in command prompt,
Code:
fastboot flash boot (name of file).img
- Reboot
I'm assuming that since you used Emma already that you have drivers installed, so should work. If the commands complete successfully, but your phone still doesn't boot, then probably system is messed up, and you'll have to flash a new rom.

So now you can just decide if you want to go the route of stock rom or custom. Quickest choice to get the phone booted would probably be Omni or something. Just download the rom, download the oem file, and flash in fastboot. Check the Omni threads in "Roms" forum... - Download the zip - https://drive.google.com/open?id=14iXmvLOMXLoZdJoCahcRhBzbUr1Eu7gw (There are 2 options, just pick one - one's a little newer)
- Copy to phone's SD card
- Boot to recovery
- Choose "wipe data/factory reset"
- Choose "install", and select the zip file you downloaded
- Reboot
There are more options, but I think you want to just get the phone to boot at this point. You can do more later if you want...
BTW - what is happening when you flash with Emma? I haven't seen it ever flash successfully, but not work on the phone. Are you getting errors?

Much appreciated! I will try that out soon. Regarding Emma it seems pretty useless, unless I'm missing something. Every time I use it, it says it's successful but nothing changes.
LEVONE1 YOU ARE THE MAN!!! I cannot thank you enough! It worked! You made my day, I appreciate your patience and willingness to help a stranger out even when you didn't have to!

Glad to hear it... It's been done for me more than once, so....
Maybe your happy with Lineage, but if you're feeling ambitious, you can start messing around with Androxyde Flashtool, and getting back to stock, and you can try my eXistenZ port - https://forum.xda-developers.com/x-compact/themes/existenz-xc-t3867917 - I think eXistenZ is the best rom for this phone, (probably for Sony phones overall). The downside is that it is based on stock, so no updates since 2018 for XC...
The processes are a bit more complicated, so might take some time / learning to get it down, but with TWRP, you can always make a quick backup, and flash right back to where you were any time...
