"Your device is corrupt. It can't be trusted and may not work properly." (Red)
I was on a phone call when my phone crashed and then displayed the following message:
"Your device is corrupt. It can't be trusted and may not work properly."
There was a URL which directed me to the following site for further information:
https://support.google.com/nexus/an...6399943843044-1589582643&p=verified_boot&rd=1
Has anyone else experienced this?

I also got that message when I first got device. Set up my Google account and then let it sit and charge. Looked 30 mins later that message appeared. It was also followed up by another screen talking about unsecure boot or something and powered it self off. It said can not boot when I tried to restart phone and I tried again and no response from the phone at all.waited 5 mins and it booted fine and never seen the messages again .

that screen appears when the bootloader is unlocked. did you guys unlock your bootloader? or, did you purchase from T-Mo/someone else?

if you reboot to bootloader mode, does your screen look like the picture below:

Posted a thread with the same error so you're not the only one. Phone booted fine once it went through it's rolodex of error screens and shut off. Had to manually power it back on.

if your phone screen in bootloader mode does not look like the one in my post, you purchased the phone direct from T-Mobile/Other Retailer and you didn't unlock the bootloader, i'd ask for a replacement. if your phone screen in bootloader mode looks like the one in my post, the bootloader has been unlocked somehow/by someone...

that's not bootloader/fastboot mode.... that's the Factory Reset/Recovery mode. i enter bootloader/fastboot mode using ADB commands (from windows command prompt) while the phone is connected to my laptop. steps to enter fastboot mode:
1. power off device - make sure your phone is not connected to laptop via USB cable
2. hold the Volume Down Key for a few seconds
3. while holiding Volume Down Key connect the Micro USB cable to your device.
4. release Volume Down key as soon as phone goes into Fastboot Mode (screen similar to my post above)
What does your screen say in fastboot mode? to get out of fastboot mode, unplug the USB cable from laptop, hold volume down + power key until blank screen, release all buttons and phone will proceed with boot process.

i'd request a replacement since your phone is unlocked (based on picture) and you're getting the "...corrupt.." message. maybe go to a corp store show them the problem and request to keep the phone until a replacement is received. good luck.

It doesn't seem to effect the function of the phone. So perhaps it is just a bug. Doing a little bit of light research, some other people have had issues with this popping up even with stock on Nexus.
I have until the 17th to exchange/return.

true, but i'd at least make T-Mo aware of the issue. personally, i'd ask for a replacement.

BTW, did anyone get a second screen saying contact customer support (some kind of language like that)? It is very similar to the red error screen, but it read like the device was basically bricked. It disappeared after a while and the phone turned off while I was trying to get a picture.

Got both screens

I did, that is how I got the return date. They notated my account massively and it looks like it'll be a root canal to a exchange.
I'm not sure that it's anything more than a bug... it hasn't stopped the phone from working and possibly may be an oversensitive security measure on Android's part. So far it seems only related to Nexus(?) that I could find... I am only posting here so others can inform themselves. Maybe others with similar errors who have owned a Nexus could enlighten us.
Either case, doing a factory reset in a little bit. I also received the latest update and applied it. So maybe that'll help too...

Yes I have had this happen 2 different times and 4 days apart on my AT&T LG G6, U.S. Variant. NO I don't unlock my devices ever. And I only install well known apps from the Play store. One possible pattern I noticed was that both times it happened relatively soon after turning OFF the always on display. Then when I rebooted the AOD was turned back on by itself. No other settings appear to be changed and my Nova launcher is running normal.
Did you happen to turn off your AOD as well?

or plugged in usb screen goes black and no response seem from pressing buttons
I had a similar problem as most phones in Canada seem to have Download/Recovery mode disabled, and here is what worked for me.
Grab something like One Click Un Root (all models), and click one click un root (obviously phone has to be on and plugged into the computer).
This should automatically reboot you into Recovery Mode!
All you have to do is "wipe data/factory default" or something like that (should be the third option).
As it states, you will loose all your data, but at least you will have a functionning phone!
did it work?
Hi. I have similar problem. Can anybody give instruction what can I do?
I have this problem too. Please help somebody
Add me to the list. Bell Galaxy S, went to unlock my phone the screen went black. Now it will not boot into the OS, the galaxy S splash screen displays then nothing. The menu and back button light up, thats all. ****[email protected]@
I have not rooted or anything.
Of course my download mode does not work.. Going to try this one click root thing if I can find it.
NOT HAPPY
This is not working. Probably because the phone is not in USB debugging mode as I can't change it... Is there any other way to get the phone into recovery mode?
**** me
i had the same thing happen to me the other day with my bell galaxy s and my phone wont do the 3 button combo trick. i left my phone plugged in to a wall charger for a while until the back of the phone became a little warm. i pulled the battery and then left the power cord plugged in and put the battery back in. i held the volume down and enter button until the battery charging indicator showed up, then i also pressed and held the power button until the boot animation started (this is the blue moving swirl and music, not the galaxy s splash scree) and then i let go of the power button. it took a few attempts at this before it actually worked, but eventually it will go into download mode at which time you can open the odin app, then plug in the usb cable and flash your phone that way. it did seem to make a difference if the back of the phone (around the camera area) was warm. if i let go of the power button while the music was playing and the phone did not enter download mode i would keep all 3 buttons pressed until it shut down again, then i would only let go of the power button while the phone initiated the charging screen, then once the battery logo was displayed i would hold the 3 buttons again and would just keep doing this until it went into download mode. i have flashed it at least 5 times today and i have been able to do this each time.
i also had an issue where odin would not recognize my phone was plugged in and windows would show a message saying the usb device was not recognized. i left the phone plugged in and while in download mode i pressed the volume up, enter button and power button until the phone went blank and when the galaxy s logo showed up i let go of the power button and the phone would go into recovery mode and then the usb drivers would be installed. i would then do the 3 button combo for download mode and odin would work fine. it took several attempts but it does work. i hope this helps you guys
If I hold all three buttons the splash screen does not come on, it just keeps looping the Galaxy S logo until I let go of the power button....

That's what mine did too, several times in a row and then it worked. For some reason it only works after the battery is charging for a bit and the back becomes warm. then it works at will
No luck. I am probably screwed getting it exchanged now too as I am passed the 14 days from Best Buy.
the on click thing doesn't work, if your phone is already bricked.
also it is not the phone's fault for not working, the phone was working properly before you tried the hacks.
whenever you do these kind of things you know you are entering into the "not supported" "not covered by warranty" zone.
in the worse case scenario, if you can no enter download mode to recover your phone, it'll be to take the phone back to bell and claim warranty on it, and prentent you don't know what happened to it.

Its my fault??
I did not hack my phone. Its not rooted, I did nothing to it.
By "unlock" I meant exactly that, unlock as in swiping the screen to unlock it.
The more I search the net the more posts I find of Galaxy S phones randomly bricking...
on the original message sounded more like you went to Unlock the phone, as in SIM unlock the phone using any of the tools available out there, and there has been already several people which had the same problem.
if you go back to Bell for an exchange, you better not use the word "unlock" rather use Swipe
as the message on the phone "swipe the screen to unlock"
there are no known issue about this causing the phone to brick.
if that is what happened to you, you should have started a new topic for people to help you, instead of hijacking the topic from the OP, as your issue is different from OP, the OP actually screwed up because he/she flashed the wrong ROM to the i9000
... anyways, Does it work if you reboot the phone?
I have rebooted the phone about 100 times. The phone crashed when I unlocked it to check a text I received. (not hacked). Has not booted up properly since. I have found many others with the same issue who have also not hacked/rooted/unlocked/ their phones.
Waiting on Best Buy to call me back. I am so pissed right now, I have been bragging to my friends and co-workers how awesome this phone is, one has already picked one up, I hope his doesn't brick too. Not recommending it to anyone anymore..
did you load a lot of MP3 to the phone?
can you boot into Recovery Mode?
in the recovery mode you can wipe the Cache and wipe the data
that should make your phone work normal again
it'll be best to open a topic to help you trouble shoot your interesting issue, as it's the first i've hear that you get a black screen after Swiping out of the lock screen
I can't get into recovery mode. I have tried every button combination I have found. I had about 2 GB of music on the phone. I also installed the Android SDK to try ADB, but since the phone is not in USB debugging mode it does not see it.

Enter U.S. T-Mobile Vibrant Recovery Mode Guaranteed

THIS GUIDE WORKED ON USA T-MOBILE SAMSUNG VIBRANT BUT MAY VERY WELL WORK ON ALL SAMSUNG GALAXYS PHONES
After reading many XDA-Developers Forum Posts to try and figure out how to get into the Recovery Mode / Download Mode without any success, I gave T-Mobile Support a call.
After the usual noop run-down, "did you take the battery out" questions, I simply asked them how to get the Samsung Vibrant into recovery mode.
Unline the many tutorials that claim to require the Up or Down button pressed, along with the Home button then the Power, the true process is as follows:
1. Press the Up and the Down button at the same time (yes both). I too thought that button was a Toggle which only did either Up or Down, but found that in fact it does do both.
2. At the same time, press the power button.
3. As soon as the Samsung / Vibrant logo comes up on the screen, release the power button.
4. Release the Up and Down buttons.
5. PRESTO
Download Mode from Recovery Mode: Allows File Push through ADB
UPDATE
Once in Recovery Mode, to swith to what I believe is Download Mode, due to the fact that it now allows me to push files to the phone:
Click on the MENU Button from Recovery Mode.
You do relies the people with this download mode problem have hardware locked phones, rite?
Therefore they cant access recovery because the volume buttons dont work
I had a hardware locked vibrant and got to recovery the exaxt same way he described. Ill attest its true. Don't know about download mode though. Sounds interesting.

How do you know if your phone is hardware locked? Is the only impact that you can't get into recovery mode?
This technique has been around for a while and it simply does not work for hardware locked phones. There is no known way to get the HL phones into recovery from a power off.
ive tried this method many times on the 2 vibrants ive had over the past 2 weeks. hasnt worked. although i can get into download mode just fine.
Never mind wrong mode I was trying to describe
He used to think people don't know they should press both volume keys...
I dont think there is such a thing as "hardware locked" vibrants. I know people think they do have one but why would some be locked and others unlocked? It doesnt make any sense, the vibrant has only been out since July.

Whether they are defective or locked the fact of the matter is yea there is such thing, people are not imagining it.
Take me for example My first vibrant was fine...my jackass friend knocked it out of my hand and chipped very tiny piece of the fake chrome bezel. I only had for week so I returned and said it had issues.
I made sure I could access recovery with new phone before exchanging. They only had 2 left both with Sept date. Powered it up and no go, tried couple more time and still nothing...it was locked, we didn't even try 2nd one.
He ended up calling a friend at T-Mobile store in mall and had him look and see if he had any with the same date as the one i was returning "August ".
He had one and he had him test before i drove down....he did and he was able to access recovery, went down to mall and sure enough it was fine, able to get into recover first shot....so yes there is such think as "hardware locked" vibrants

I have flashed a vibrant with a i9000S software but the radio did not work quite well. Since the two have different keys, now i cant get it to boot mode. i was able to get into recovery mode via ADB but all i can do is use vol to go up or down and not select an option. the device wont even get out of recovery mode.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Yes, some phones are locked. I had to get my Vibrant replaced, and was bitten by a different bug.
I went to my mom's and my niece locked my phone out by entering the wrong pattern incorrectly while it was charging (brand new phone, had to charge it... I typically don't use a pattern lock but since my first one was stolen....).
Now, the phone does not allow you to get into it using your Google Credentials.
Called T-Mobile and the woman said I'd have to send it in for a replacement because it's a "software glitch."
I asked her to try to factory reset it. She said her "researchers told her not to try it because it can brick the phone." We tried anyways.
Hold down both volume keys and power until the Vibrant logo comes up, then release.
Doesn't work. Hung up on her and went to a T-Mobile store. They tried for over 2 hours to factory reset this phone, and spend half the time on the phone with Tech Support to do it. You cannot access recovery mode on this phone. The other Vibrant here, that we checked, also cannot go into recovery mode. It boots straight up into the phone.
So:
1. Lots of Vibrants are unable to get into Recovery Mode/Download Mode
2. There is a bug in Android that will soft brick your phone if you or anyone enters the wrong pattern lock too many times - you will NOT be able to get back into your phone with your Google Credentials - at all. The phone will be useless.
Even though your phone can download emails from Google, and your sending them to yourself using the same login/password, you will not be able to authenticate your phone and unlock it.
Two pretty catastrophic faults, IMO.
When this next phone comes in (it will be brand new, like my first/second one - they're on backorder) - I'm immediately selling it, ETFing my account, and going to go phoneless (can use Google VOIP from a laptop/desktop over WiFi/Internet) and wait for a decent Win7 phone.
I doubt they will have such issues.
BTW, the Android bug I mentioned (not being able to unlock) has existed for 2+ years (since version 1.5 or before) and despite many people bricking their devices (and some devices being unable to hardware reset - like many Vibrants), Google has turned a blind eye to it, and keeps either closing the tickets or setting the priority to "medium" (Bluetooth functionality is critical, however - if you get my point).
For a long time i was under the impression that my phone was HW locked. i was on my last legs before sending out my phone for repair (im past the exchange date) so i called my carrier (Bell Mobility in Canada). They informed me i could do a restore through recovery mode -> to which i informed them that i could not enter after i had tried for 3 days previously. So the rep that i was speaking with advised me to do the following;
Turn phone off
Hold Vol+ & Menu & Power
Once screen displays Samsung release Power while still holding Menu & Vol+
Viola -> RECOVERY MODE
So, this got me thinking because if this got me into recovery mode -> download mode should be similar
Turn phone off
Hold Vol+ & Vol- & Menu & Power
Once screen displays Samsung release Power while still holding Menu & Vol+ & Vol-
Viola -> DOWNLOAD MODE
So, i thought my vibrant was hardware locked when infact it was simply just the wrong key combination to get into each respective mode. Not sure if i just wasnt reading some of the posts correctly or what but thats what worked for me.
That doesn't work on T-Mobile Vibrants.
The phone simply shows the Vibrant screen, then goes black and goes back to the Vibrant screen...
Over and over again. It can do it until the battery runs out. It will never get to the Galaxy S Screen as long as you have that Power Button down.
The only reason yours worked is cause your phone is not defective like many of ours.
I think I'm going to make a YouTube video of me using my Google Credentials (from a computer) to send myself emails while the phone syncs them in the background, yet refuses to allow me to use these credentials to unlock my phone - as well as rebooting to the Vibrant screen over and over again when I try to get into Recovery to reset it.
Because some people on this forum really like to act like problems don't exist, and tend to think their ignorance or operator error invalidates other posters' posts.
Congratulations on not having a defective device, though!
Looked it up and its real

[Q] Bricked Nexus S

I tried to flash a custom ROM on my Nexus but since then the phone will not start up.
If I try to boot normally, the screen flashes for a second, I get a quick buzz of haptic feedback, then the "Home" and "Search" buttons light up, then the "Back" button, and then the "Settings" button lights up and stays lit. Sounds weird but this is true.
If I try to boot into the bootloader, the "Search" and "Home" buttons light up and stay on, but nothing appears on the screen.
Annoyingly, fastboot picks up the serial number of the phone, but it can do nothing else. oem unlock is unresponsive, the three dots come up and the cursor flashes, though it at least gets past the "waiting for device" stage. If I try issue oem lock, it reports that the phone is already locked so Johnny 5 is somewhat alive.
adb doesn't recognise the phone at all, I tried on mac, WinXP, W7, and linux for good measure.
Superboot also reports that the phone is locked so no luck there.
I hope I'm not covering old ground here, any help would be greatly appreciated.
What custom ROM did you flash? What is your phone model?
Of course ADB wouldn't recognize your phone. ADB requires the phone to be on.
The only thing that would detect would be "fastboot devices" in bootloader mode.
Are you able to get into recovery mode?
And your phone is not bricked. Stop using that term. There hasn't been a report of a brick for the Nexus S unless the user has flashed a ROM that isn't for their phone via Odin or whatever.
I don't know... if he doesn'tget that Google and lock or unlock screen he might be a first one.
Did you try the volume up and then hold power to boot? It should go into fastboot menu. If that doesn't than you are first to brick it. Must have been faulty from the beginning though.

Absolutely, I am getting the feeling it's a faulty handset too. No, it doesn't boot into fastboot, or normally either, the screen is completely blank.
No-one has seen this behaviour where the buttons along the bottom of the screen light up when you try to boot the phone? I concede that this is a very rare thing to happen to a Nexus S, but it seems strange that nobody has seen or heard of it before?
I'm sorry I didn't fully understand. It doesn't boot into fastboot but it picks up the serial number? Have you tried flashing a recovery through fastboot?

Fastboot reports the serial number okay, but when I turn the phone on holding the volume button up, nothing happens.
Actually, I had a moment of inspiration when using the fastboot oem unlock command- I realised that when the cursor was flashing it was waiting for me to confirm that I wanted to unlock on the phone itself. So, I pushed up on the volume rocker and confirmed by pushing the power button, and fastboot reported that I had successfully unlocked the phone. "Great!" I thought, but whatever I try to flash onto the phone I get the same behaviour, the lights at the bottom of the screen flash but nothing happens on the screen.
So it seems I have a faulty screen, or I did something to screw with the electronics. There are a couple of sugestions here to try but I don't hold out much luck.
Thanks for you help anyway

Yeah, I finally managed to unlock the handset (see my previous post), and I can flash the recovery no problem (or at leasts it reports no problem), but nothing comes up on the screen. As I said in my last post I think the screen must be borked.
Thanks for posting anyway, it's much appreciated.

I think he means that if you do "fastboot devices" it comes up with a number. That means there is some hope.
Did you try flashing with Samsung's exe? You have to know which model you got.

Samsung's exe? Sorry, I did a quick google on this but I'm not sure exactly what you mean? As I've said in my last 2 replies, I think the screen is the problem but it's worth a try.
Thanks for all the suggestions so far, and sorry to pipe on about this, but has nayone seen this behaviour where the screen flashes for a millisecond when the phone is turned on but then stays dead, and instead the function keys at the bottom light up and turn off in a particular sequence? As I've said in my last couple of posts I think my phone is toast but maybe there is a clue somewhere in that description?
Samsung has an exe for windows to restore your system where it was original. Find the one for your phone and flash it. The file is different depending on who you carrier is and what model number do all the research them run the exe
Edit exe is called swupdater on sprint

Uncle Jimmy says hello

OPT Volume UP button stuck in pressed position -> device not booting

Hello,
I have a problem with my OPT. The "Volume UP" button stuck in pressed position.
Because of the battery the phone went off but after charging it want start again.
I guess because of the pressed Volume UP + Power nothing happens.
After more than one week of fighting with the support (the issue was always escalated to the next level, remote session, bla bla bla.. but nothing happened) the problem finally was redirected to the "RRR" repair and return... and now I thing that at some point I will have a chance to send this brick back.
However, Is there a way to get my data out of it before I send the phone back?
If it would be out of warranty I would just unscrew the plastic battery cover and push the button back...
Best
dim
No Ideas?
I don't need a step by step how to.
just, is it possible? and if so, give me some buzz words (toolkits, what to check and so on)
For example If I plug it in my PC I see in the device manager QHSUSB_BULK as unknown device (good sign) but for now it refuses to install the driver from https://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html
There is a sign of live.
when I let the phone rest for several hours and then press power, there is a short vibrating response and I the screen shows for less than a second the fastboot logo. Then the screen gets dark.
To repeat this I need to wait several hours.
any help appreciated
I think this is a hardware issue, send it to repair

Thanks for the answer,
and yes, it is a hardware problem. The question was more like: is there a way to start or backup/reset the phone from this state.
Like I said, the phone is recognised by the mac and PC (showing up as QHSUSB_BULK)
Theoretically with pressed Vol UP button it should start in to fastboot mode.
I managed to install the driver on the PC but the phone is not recognised by fastboot
same on mac.
So if some one has an Idea how to get to the data in this phone please help

I don't think you can back up from that stage. As it is a button related issue, I don't think OnePlus will erase any data on the device. Contact OnePlus and ask them if they can make a back up. Submit a ticket on the OnePlus support page.

Thanks,
I've contacted them, and it took almost 3 weeks to get an appropriate answer. They told me that the device will be replaced and there is no way that they could provide me my data..

Oh damn. Anyway, new OPT

can't enter into fastboot

Hello i have recently tried to return my phone from cyanogenmod into the stock rom using this thread: "https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/general/guide-return-to-stock-relock-bootloader-t3489110" and my phone got stuck in the process while making the command "fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img". And now my device is stuck on boot loop showing the cyanogenmod loading screen.
Anyway now i found a way to get to stock but for that i need to get my device into fastboot. THE PROBLEM IS that my device can't get now into fastboot! i have tried using adb commands but the adb doesn't recognize the device. I have tried fastboot commands but again it doesn't recognize the device. I also tried button combinations, but it didn't work.
Until the incidence i have used to press the power button+ vol down keys to get into fastboot mode, but now it doesn't work. I suspect that it doesn't work since in order to get into fastboot with the button combination i need to first get the device turned off. But when i connect my device to the charger it shows the battery charging screen and the device is stuck on that screen even if it has disconnected from the charger, and it will keep on that screen until the battery has depleted. I have tried shutting it down using the power button but then my phone gets into a loop with the cyanogenmod loading screen, and even if i turn it off it restarts instead.
p.s I have used to think that my fastboot was deleted but on an other thread i have been told that as long as i see the cyanogenmod loading screen of the OS that means i have a boot-loader.
Please help!
I want to get into Fastboot on my Moto Pure.
Thanks a lot
Eden.
Power down 1st
Try volume down & power key together. That will get you into fastboot directly.
Oops just seen that, my bad, I wont respond anymore.

Anyone got an idea?
u cant poweroff does that means your phone is continuously bootlooping or its just booting but takes a hell lotta time to boot up?

I think @edenah is saying it just gets stuck at the loading screen. If the battery discharges all the way and the device is plugged in, the battery symbol shows and after the charger is unplugged, the battery charging doesn't go away until the battery dies again or the power button is pressed (which leaves us right back to where we started)

Try this:
Hold power button for 10-20 sek, when screen will turn off hold only vol-(at bootloop screen).
You should flash stock without "oem" commands.
Find how to update bootloader.

It recognizes it as portable usb device.
And well. I have bought the device in the us but i live outside of the US. so its bit problematic to return it now. Some help could do the trick!
I found SP flash tool and i believe it would do the trick. But i need to get the scatter loading file of the moto pure, but i can't find it anywhere, maybe anyone got the idea how to get that?

We haven't been able to get the QLoad files for most Moto devices, at least not for the last 2-3 years... Sorry.
Well i have found a way to get the device charged while the screen is off!
If i connect it to my computer while pressing the power button and the vol down button and keep pressing it, the device stays turned off!
Now i'm trying to play with it, to turn the bootloader. so far the classical power and vol combo doesn't work.

I am stuck. No button combination works. I suspect that the device isn't really off but the display is just closed. As even to open up the device takes a reallly long press on the power button.
if it got interrupted while flashing bootloader, you're pretty much not going to be able to do anything.
motorola service center is likely the only place that can fix it.
sorry for your luck.

Lost cause? No, probably not... Do you know anyone in the US you trust well enough to receive the phone from repair and ship it to you where ever you are? I believe that is all you need. The US service center cannot ship outside of North America (maybe US), but they can receive packages from anywhere. If you had a US contact that could receive the device and forward it on to you it might be worth it to get it fixed if it is still under warranty, if it isn't, then it might not be worth fixing. Lots of things to consider here.
