my once great phone is essentially a paper weight

Does the same WiFi network work on other devices? If yes, you might want to try to factory reset or if that doesn't work a fresh install via Odin!

Allright, that's too bad.. Have you tried other WiFi networks? If so, I can't think of any other reason but faulty hardware.

WiFi works on all other devices and s7 works on all other WiFi.
Bt provider have confirmed there is no issue on the line and set replacement modem hubs.
The issues is with the s7 and apps

Err weird. So the problem lies within some part of the phone that is unaffected when resetting or reflashing (odin)... No idea really, sorry. Hopefully someone else has a solution!

it even effects the samsung brower on certain pages, but not all.
it hates google apps and trying to load the google app store webpage.

and yes i have cleared cache on google apps and deleted my google account

Market won't work over 3G?

So yeah. Market won't work over 3G anymore. It worked earlier today when I downloaded Better Keyboard and Ultra Keyboard. Went to go refund the Better Keyboard as I decided on keeping the ultra keyboard and market wouldn't work.
It did however work over Wi-Fi.
I made No other changes to my phone since this morning. I have no idea why market isn't working. Maybe it's T-Mobile?
I tested web browsing on 3G and that worked. Maybe it's a port issue? Don't know.

I've tried rebooting several times as well.
I really don't want to flash a stock ROM again, everything is perfect.
EDIT:
The Market doesn't work on EDGE either.

Same thing here. I'm on T-Mobile in Chicago.

A ton of other people were reporting the same issue, so it was either a T-Mobile network problem or a Google problem. Since it was working over wifi I'd lean toward it being a network issue on T-Mobile's end.
Yep. I even undid the lag fix and reverted back to stock and no change. Works fine for me as well over wifi.

Market stuck "Downloading"

Hi, I just got a brand new Xperia Play and am loving it so far, aside from one infuriating issue.
When I'm on WIFI I simply cannot download anything from the market, I've been messing with this for the past 2 hours, things I've tried:
Clearing app cache of several apps related to downloading
Toggling WIFI / 3G
Restarting phone
Updating to latest firmware
Reset to factory settings
Play with router wireless settings
Reinstall router firmware
The only thing that did something is clearing the cache of the download manager, after I did that I was able to install one thing from the market. But it only worked once, it's not working anymore.
I'm also unable to play youtube video's when using wifi.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? My phone is brand new, so it can't be something I did with it.
Also, up till today I had an HTC Magic, which did not have the problem on the same wireless network. It did have occasional "download starting" hiccups, but nothing like this.
Any advice?
Thanks!
Edit: Solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17359553&postcount=4
Edit2: False alarm, still not working.. seems to come and go
You have the weirdest problem.. Did you check your router to see if it's generating enough ip addresses for all your wireless devices?
What is the distance between you and your router and what kind of router is it? I believe the play has a weaker wifi radio, so it might be dcing too often to stream and download.. Try standing closer to the router to see if there is a difference first.
Sent from my XPlay using XDA App.
I'm right next to the router and the web interface shows a full signal, so it can't be that. I can also see in the web interface that an ip address was assigned.
I've tried setting the phone as the DMZ and disabling the router firewall. No luck with that either.
I also tried upgrading my router firmware from Tomato to DD-WRT and doing a factory reset, but again .. no luck.
I'm running out of ideas, it seems the problem originates from Android and not my router, but I can't think of anything else I could try. Could it be an issue with the Android network in my location?
Omfg.. 3/4 hours later I finally got it, and this one wasn't suggested anywhere else so hopefully this will help some others in the future.
I had to go into wireless settings on my phone, click menu, go to advanced and then manually configure the network connection. Make sure your router has reserved an ip for you and use that one, otherwise you might end up trying to use one that is already in use.
After that it all seems to be working for me (so far). Fingers crossed that it won't stop working again.
Yea you couldn't find the answer anywhere else because it seemed like it was an isolated incident. Gratz for figuring it out though.

Next day, working fine in the morning. Couple hours later and it's back to getting stuck on "Downloading". Tried toggling static ip with no luck.
God this is incredibly annoying. I'm guessing it'll magically start working again at some point, and then stop working again later.
From what I've found through google this bug has been around since the very first version and not a single solution has been offered by google. Seriously this is ridiculous
Hi,
I'm having exactly the same issues.... Normal browsing, etc works fine on WIFI but market just wont work on WIFI.
I dont even see the device hitting my router when I try to download thru the market. Other network connections are seen by my router.
I wonder if it might be linked to the the fact that I'm running a UK rom on my device. When I'm using my data connection off Rogers, it actually does a RMNET to the British government... So we are seen as downloading from the UK.. Just an idea...
It's annoying as hell....
I was going to say download speedtest.net app when you can and see what it yields... but I see you've got it figured out. Nice!

Interesting, so you're saying that google somehow classifies us as UK users, which causes problems when switching to WIFI, which is not classified as a UK connection?
It would make sense, seeing as it seems to start working again after a while.. which could mean that whatever info google is caching on us is expired and it finally adopts the WIFI connection info.
Still, I have doubts about that.. I mean wouldn't a LOT more Rogers users be complaining about this?
The only persons that would be complaining are people like us running UK roms but our WIFI is coming from a canadian provider. In my case Videotron.
So when i<m using 3g data, i'm seen as coming from the UK because of the RMNET connection and when using WIFI i'm seen as Canadian... with a uk rom.
I've read that the market DOES have regions... might not be 100% correct on that but it might be part of my issue.
Mine BTW, never works anymore even after clearing cache, FC the market, etc...
lol i got the opposite problem i have trouble downloading stuff from the market using 3g but works perfect using wifi
not really an issue since im not an app whore
Its not a issue on play all phones has that. Simply log in to your Talk app then try again. (launch Gtalk app and login)
Thanks, but i had already tried that.
Reinstalled the UK rom yesterday, and even after a clean install market still doesnt work on WIFI even tho my WIFI works for browsing, accessing my computer thru RDP, etc.

This only works for some people.
My market has been working for a day now (I didn't do anything to fix it), I'm expecting it to stop working any moment. Fingers crossed.
Edit: Aaand there we go.. stopped working again. Sigh.
Got the same issue both on my Nexus S (Videotron) and (which is strange), on My Motorola Xoom Tablet which only has wifi, no 3g !!
Edit: If I connect my tablet thru my cell phone (wifi tethering) I have no problem with market
ok so me and mobidoy are both on Videotron...
Naatan I see you are in quebec... Videotron also?
Starting to believe it migh be an issue with them
hey
im in videotron too and since 4 days i cant watch youtube on youtube app and my download on market stay stuck in green bar!! i have a toshiba thrive android 3.1!!!!!
when i connect with a 3g router or on the wi fi in my city everything work again
so it clear that videotron is the problem!!!!
Had the same problems
First time hard reset fixed it.
Second time by magic, sorry. I was about to send the phone to repairs
I used the XDA App to post this, what did you use?
I've been having the exact same problem as you and can't seem to find a way to solve this. I just purchased a Galaxy Tab 10.1, WIFI only, and at home nothing will download from the Android market. It just gets stuck. Youtube videos also dont work via the app.I tried it out at a friends and everything worked flawlessly.
At home, I also have Videotron internet. I just called them, and tried to explain to their customer service but obviously they were quick to blame it on anything else they could. They said they did not block any ports either.
I read a thread about some vodafone users in the UK having a similar problem than us:
Edit: It wont let me post an external link because I'm a new user, but the post is on androidforums.com and is titled "ANDROID MARKET download/update problem via WiFi"
It seems their problem was fixed after calling Vodafone.
I'm also inclined to point fingers at Videotron since its odd we are all customers of theirs.
Just called Videotron technical support, they have an open ticket about it since yesterday morning and are actualy working on the issue !! There is hope !!

[Q] Verizon S5 will not connect to the internet

My wife's brand new S5 just stopped connecting to the internet. Mobile data and wifi are on and were working with no problem the day before yesterday. But now they have seemed to stop working. She has done a soft reset and forgotten our home network. She tells me that she cannot download anything from txt messages, surf the internet or even play her game that requires access to the internet. She is already frustrated after having to change from a Iphone 4s, so this is not helping any. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do a factory reset. If after that the wifi and data still don't work, it might be time for a replacement. iPhones are defective too, just her luck that she gets the defective S5.

Ok. Is there a all encompassing backup for these phones, like itunes was for the iphone? Something computer based and not just cloud based?
Thank you Aooga.

Try Kies. You can get it from samsung's site, but nothing compares to the iPhone backup.

Urgent Help require: Note 3 “Smart Network Switch" not working anymore.

Hi there,
Recently I discovered this issue: the “Smart Network Switch" is not working anymore.
For me this is very important, as here wifi connection is not that great like the Mobile Data network here. Wifi internet sometime downs without any notification but Mobile data network is 100% uptime 24x7. But so far the " Smart Network Switch" helps me great as I’ve to stay online over skype always, if the wifi lost internet then it automatically switch to HSPDA which helps me to stay online always even if I’m unaware the wifi internet is down.
Earlier even if the wifi internet link is ok still sometime it was switching to HSPDA by saying internet is slow, I don’t mind that but recently I was noticing even if the wifi was down for long time it wasn’t switching to HSPDA.
In short the "Smart Network Switch" isn’t working at all at any condition. I doubt it could be due to any recent installed app. But I’m not sure which one could. I checked the all recent installed apps accessibility list and removed Airdriod and CM Security which had full network access. But still that didn’t help.
I’m sure this is due to a software bug not a hardware issue. For more input and clues:
# Since over last six month my phone lost the vibration, the vibration motor is not working, I tested with hardware test. I’m really not happy with this phone. Its not yet completed 1year and couldn’t find any nearest service center. So its still working without the vib feature.
# Recently I’ve upgraded the local WIFI setup with a primary dual band TP-Link router and another wifi router as bridge with same SSID and password, this is to get better wifi coverage. Due to this dual router the wifi coverage is at full bar everywhere and the phone has the same. But I think this is nothing to do with this.
Please advice. Thanks in advance.
Have you tried a factory reset?
Have you removed the certificates from those apps?
Have you removed them as device administrators?

Thanks for your reply. No I don’t want to factory reset for now, this would be my last option as I have to a lots of work to get everything back, apps and data, setup etc.
No I did not removed the certificates from those apps. Never did this before. When I uninstall I always clear all data of those apps and then uninstall. How do I find certificates of those apps? I know the certificate location but don’t know how to find those specifically.
I removed them as device administrators if its require, if a app in dev admin, it cannot be uninstall.
Please advice. Thanks
Sorry, credentials, not certificates. Bloody autocorrect....
Settings > security. Scroll all the way down. You can either clear all user-added credentials all at once by hitting clear credentials, or look it up and deselect it manually under trusted credentials.
Sent From My Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N9005 Using Tapatalk
Yes here credentials are CA certificates, after reading your 1st post I checked that but there was none user added, all are system and its a huge list. Also the clear option grayed out as nothing there to delete.
I wiped system cache partition from recovery, ran it under safe mode but nothing helps. So I doubt this will fix even after formatting to factory setting. It could be a hardware issue.
The issue has been fixed after formatting and factory resetting the phone.

Yes but this made my work increase a lot to get back all previous apps and their data. Kies app backup didnt backup app data, only the apps itself. I didnt know that. It took me a a day to get every setting back. Their could be another way to clear data somewhere which I couldnt find.

Anyone use Zoiper or other SIP app for VOIP on Oreo beta 2? Will not connect on WiFi

On Oreo beta2 I can no longer connect to the SIP server when the phone is on any WiFi connection. App works fine on mobile data but not on WiFi, no matter where the WiFi originates. This happens on Zoiper, CSipSimple or any Voip App. Was working on 7.1. Seems there is something blocking the connection to the server. Any thoughts?

Ditch the apps. SIP functionality is built into the standard phone app. I am using it with VoIP.ms.

Thanks for the tip. I didn't know that was available but the same problems exists with the native dialer. Account will register on mobile data but not WiFi. Something is blocking it. Very frustrating and i don't know what else to do to troubleshoot this.

Perhaps your router (or service provider) is blocking a necessary port. I would start with researching which ports need to be open for SIP/ your VoIP service functionality. Then checking your network and router, with some app or other, if it is open or closed. Then creating a port forwarding rule to your device if necessary. Note this advice is just theoretical as I have not had to do this. Perhaps someone with some similar experience could further advise...

I have thought about this as well but that would not explain as why it happens on my home wifi, my work wifi, my friends wifi... All with different routers and service providers. It must be the phone or rom issue or possibly some app doing this. Googling this brings me to others mainly with a Pixel phone with the same problem.

Sprint OMA-DM cause?
OK so i was digging into the phone to try to solve this problem and found something interesting. There was a n APP called "Spring OMA-DM" that i found was using data on my phone. I use T-Mobile so i didn't think i needed anything Sprint on my phone. Since i am rooted i decided to remove any APP on the device that had a Sprint name. There were three i removed. Once i deleted these APPs my WiFi connection for my SIP starting working. I wonder what Sprint is trying to do. I bought this phone on Amazon but it was from a private seller and he obviously got it from Sprint but it was unlocked and i never had any problems. I think everyone might want to beware of this.
