[Deal] Xiaomi Mi5s 64GB @ $267! - Xiaomi Mi 5s Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi all,
Found the Mi5s 64GB Gold for $267 Here:
https://www.massdrop.com/talk/1443/xiaomi-mi-5-s-price-drop
I see that other 3rd arty retailers dropping prices too, so the Mi6 is over the corner?

I ordered the phone for cheaper, some months ago.
Wouldn't call it a bargain. Bad support. Not worth the money.
It's a solid phone if you give it to your parents or grandparents tho.

Hey,
Right kow i life in Myanmar. Here you can get it from 270 Euros upwards (4GB/128GB version) but only in gold. I do not know i often i heard "Only one color sir - one color - one color". So i think it is just the street price around China. Guess they just dont make to much money on the devices. So i would say it is a good but normal price you saw. But a lucky price to get it shipped outside of Asia.
The is great - get it. It is not super spezial ut you get a lot of Hardware on a budget. But it is not a budget phone, no spezial features but very good hardware in a prime housing.
The unofficial Lineage Os 14.1 works perfect now. Just arrived few days ago. I was also happy with Google Apps and Pixel Launcher combined with Xiaomi Rom. Both is highly usable.
I am super happy - dont expect wonders from the Cam. It is a very good camera but not as good as the Google Pixel one. It is the same Hardware and you will get compare able results with good light but HDR+ what makes the Pixel Cam what it is, is not available ?jet?. Hopefully we can soon pull it from a Pixel
For me it is more than worth the money ( hey... we talking about a Snapdragon 821, 4/3 GB of Ram and 64/124 GB storage, build quality ... etc.) Would be interested why it is not worth the money.
For me it is not toooo bad supported - it is not unusual that Xiaomi gives out the source AFTER launching the next generation flagship. So no panic and there are good Roms available. But for sure there are better supported devices.

Still a good phone for 2016?

There are already sales on Oneplus Two for under 300USD. I wonder if it's a good purchase at this price, or do better deals exist? How does this phone compare to Moto X Pure?
I really recommend it
I first got the oneplus 3 on launch but i cracked the screen,my camera lens, and the phone body was beat up
So i didn't have alot of money to fix it (it would cost alot plus shipping etc)
So i considered getting a new lower end phone
But then i saw the oneplus 2 on sale for 260$ on amazon
And i got it
And i really gotta say i don't regret it
The phone is nowhere near old/slow
Its fast, it looks good, and its cheap so yeah i think you will also love it
It's definitely a great phone still. Even the OnePlus One matches most of the current phones. There hasn't been great improvement in the mobile device industry in the past 2 years. So go ahead and grab this bad boy soon.
Yes it is a very good deal, and you can find less than 250 euro
It's obviously still a great device but if you can squeeze in a little more money you can go for OnePlus 3.
Now the 3 has many features which the 2 lags, for example fast charging and a better camera. Also 3 is being updated regularly by OP whereas it takes them more than 4 to 5 months to push an update for the 2.
If you don't care about the charging time and want a nice camera (2's is nice, 3's is better) then go ahead for the 2.
Unlock, root and flash!

Is this phone worth getting ?

I'm interested in this phone but I'm not sure if I should get it. Currently I have a s6 edge plus on tmobile and read that this phone supports the band's if I get the global version

I truly need Dual SIM for lot of international travel..this is one of the few or only phone that supports 4G/3G dual sim standby. I have heard on T-Mobile even VoLTE works (I am on ATT, don't ask if not for their coverage i would have switched)..but the only band missing is 66 which T-Mobile is planning to roll out, but it would be ages for that to be widely deployed, and by that time you can get Mi Note 3 ..
Hi,
As far as I am concerned, I would stay away from this phone
It's really nice... on paper !
But real life looks quite different.
First, despite having cloase specs to the Xiaomi mi5s Plus, I could compare them both side by side : in EVERY aspect, the mi Note 2 is beaten by it's Xiaomi sibbling.
Second, the display is simply a catastrophy... unless you really like blueish displays and ****ty view angles. It's AMOLED. The Xiaomi mi5s Plus which has IPS doesn't suffer from that.
Third, the GPS is lazy, always showing you 10 meters behind where you really are. Here again, the mi5s Plus is much more accurate !
It might be that I have got a defective device. But at least about the display, I had the exact same symptoms on the OP3 I got the very first day it was released
SO I guess : AMOLED might offer really random performance
Regards
My husband bought us mi note 2's. We have owned them for 4 months. I personally have no plans on buying another u.s. marketed cell phone. I highly recommend the mi note 2. I have the 128GB storage phone.

Just to give my experience so people seeing this don't immediately think this phone is awful... I've had mine (Global 6GB/128GB) for about a week and it's been great. Last phone was a Nexus 6P but I'm liking this much more. The display isn't as high resolution as the 6P but that is only really noticeable when reading small text. I don't have any issue with the display being "blueish" or poor viewing angles. GPS is also fine for me so I'm wondering if you did get a defective unit.
Get the phone you won't be disappointed. I have had the global edition for a couple of months and it poops on anything else .. Side by side with the Samsung S8 and this phone looks pretty much the same. It is not as fast as an S8, but then costs half as much, and it has loads more memory, dual SIMs, is still one of the fastest phones out there, and the display is plenty good enough. Maybe not the phone you should get if you find blowing ROMs exciting but if you want a phone that works really well out of the box this is it. The benchmarks appear to be better for the international edition so get that one, with 128gb. Remember that Xiaomi make more phones than Apple so you can bet it is going to be a solid product.
If the poster above actually owned the phone they would be competent enough to flip into the settings and adjust the screen settings to warm if they want a warmer looking screen. You can also set the screen to remove blue light at night if you want that sort of thing.
I am running dual SIMs with no issues internationally.. 4g is fast. The front end is Miui which is a bit quirky but has a bunch of good features built in.. And, having a 4000ma battery you can get a couple of days use out of the phone between charge on light use. The GPS is really good, helped by the fact that most of the phone is glass. So you get a fix real fast. Best phone I have ever owned for sat nav in a car. The GPS doesn't suck the battery dry either.
Camera is good, not brilliant but it's better than many Chinese phones. I am comparing to a DSLR which costs twice as much as the phone so probably a bit unfair! Double the resolution of the S8 phone...
This isn't a hacker phone.. It is a good phone that just works and has an interesting launcher with good features to help you control your privacy and battery use.. Usually the things you need to root your phone for.. With this phone you don't need to root to do that, and that is really handy. I do actually own this phone so feel free to ask questions
Sent from my Mi Note 2 using Tapatalk
I've had mine for going into three months now. I'm in the US using T-Mobile and I've had only one issue with it so far (I have a few issues taking calls on a wired headphones). Overall, really satisfied with it.
Is it still worth getting in 2017? Any problems now!
screen and camera mediocre.
I just got mine and going to start using it. Initial impressions, it's a BEAUTY. The black one is a SEXY monolith. Very minimal in curves and subtle in design. Nothing jazzy. The bad part - Only the screen/display. Yes the resolution is a little less. But honestly, you wouldn't even notice it. 6GIGs OF RAM DUDEE! What else do you need? And 128 is more than enough. For that price, you will usually compromise on something or the other with other phones, not this one.
I currently own an S6 Edge+ and the battery has degraded heavily so I am currently looking for a new phone and this one looks very promising, but will it get Android Oreo?

Gearbest. I can also get it for 217 euros. but after using my credits.
Without credits, you can get it for 230 euro
I just love that phone.
I have this phone for month now and it great, fast, stable, no heating, great battery life. After all I think its worth baying this phone.
I confirm I got this phone few days ago from Gearbest, paid it 213€ with shipment included. I will now request bootloader unlocking so I can add root. I am planning to keep stock MIUI, really hoping it's going to get MIUI 9 before christmas.

OnePlus 5 now or wait for 5T? / 64gb vs 128gb?

I just recently got the money I've been waiting for to get a new phone. (my moto G4 is going down the toilet when I get one, Thanks Lenovo...) I was wondering If you guys think I should get the One plus 5 or wait for the 5t in Q4? here's my preferences.
battery life: 1
performance: 2
display: 3
design: 4
storage: 5
camera: 6
with 1 being the most important.
I've heard the one plus 5T will most likely have the same processor and battery life so if that's true maybe there's my answer but wondering what you guys thought.
Also I don't really care about storage all to much but is the 8gb ram worth it for 60 bucks? thanks for any input.
Austin
Officially there is no chip better than the 835 at the moment. So a 5T would flop kind of hard. For such a small company they cant afford to do that. Unless they really pump up other features by an insane margin dont expect a new flagship so quickly. But i have proposed the idea that even tho the 3t was a great device, for lack of a better term OnePlus cant be trusted to not usurp their phones for fear of another "T" phone. A 5T could happen but who knows if they will want to one up themselves. The 3t was a massive hit though so who knows? They just might.
I knew right from the start there will be no t variant this time. Oneplus5 is still the best phone after the comming iphone.
For battery and performance I can vouche, although some users like me encounter some software related idle WiFi drain that will hopefully be fixed in OOS 4.6. I'm loving the display too, although it's "only" 1080p, for me it's fully sufficient plus it's lighter on the battery. For the design and camera I don't care much. In terms of storage I think 64GB is sufficient, and 6GB RAM is just perfect. I went for this model. Some users need loads of storage though for movies, songs etc so 128GB makes sense, too.
lol there is no sure thing of a 5T coming. Just because they made a 3T doesn't mean they will make a 5T and to assume that will just make you wait for something that likely won't come. Missing out on the best phone out there right now.
Waiting for the next best thing means you end up waiting forever but at some point you need to bite thre bullet and get something...
Guaranteed that 2 days later a bigger, better item will be available though.
Personally the 128gb was the one I got. Still not enough storage, One+ REALLY need to put in external storage support, and that should hopefully futureproof it a bit.
The only thing that could make the 5T better would be 8gb, 128gb with external storage. Only reason I might upgrade, anything else would be a plus but it would have to be at the same price point or less (like that would happen).
Don't pay more for more RAM.
OnePlus might make a 5T but the current model is hard to beat. If they do make a 5T it won't be much different, if they don't do a 5T then you could have more quality time with your beloved G4 until the OnePlus 6.
Evan Blass has leaked that the new Pixel phones will come sometimes in October and will have the Snapdragon 836. Yes, 836, not 835.
So if OnePlus want to release a 5T, it will have the 836 which is a pretty small upgrade. I mean, it will probably have slightly higher clock speeds and some other minor improvements. With such little changes, I don't think it would be worth for them to release another device.
Hardware-wise, the OnePlus 5 is a beast. Most people just had higher expectations regarding the features. The only thing OnePlus can do to improve the 5 is to add water resistance, perhaps improve the camera, a slightly bigger battery and maybe higher screen resolution. Those are the major gripes people had with this phone.
Unless they improve those areas, a 5T will be a flop.
As to the OP's question - You can get the 5 now and sell it if a 5T does eventually pop up. The 5 shouldn't lose much value in a few months.
A friend even made a profit while selling his 3T.
In the of world of technology one thing I've learned is if you wait then you always wait coz there will be something new around the corner every month ? even if op5t comes it will be just like from 3 to 3t just barely any changes

Profit selling his 3t is because of the jelly screen hype. I saw it in the Netherlands also. Sold my 3t for 350€ after I received the 5 with early bird offer. After jelly the price of second hand 3t's went up sky high.
Would've loved for OnePlus to had created a 5'7 inch screen for us guys that is coming from Galaxy Notes and who have large hands.
Thanks for all the responses, I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the 128gb slate grey. I figure I'll have the phone for at least 2 years and who knows maybe I'll need the extra space eventually, and the extra ram will be nice as well.
The space is nice but I honestly think all that ram is a gimmick. Phones don't need 8 gigs of ram--that's serious overkill. The OnePlus Camera App is disappointing. A lot of people are using the Google Camera app ported from the Pixel instead of the stock one from OnePlus. I haven't noticed any jelly effect on mine and the phone seems pretty solid so far. You'll probably be happy with your purchase.
8GB RAM helps with multitasking. Watch any OnePlus 5 vs XYZ videos on YouTube and you'll see it pretty much wiped the floor with the competition in terms of multitasking.
So yeah, while it's not necessary, it still is nice not having to refresh an app you opened 10 apps ago.
8GB also makes it a bit futureproof. Next year we'll see more devices with 8GB probably. Apps will use more and more RAM too, so 8GB will come in handy.
According to this website, the OnePlus 5T will be released late 2017 http://androidmarvel.com/2017/08/27/1580/oneplus-5t-specs-rumors/
So it's best to wait for the 5T and make do for now, you wouldn't want to spend your money on a phone that will get an "enhanced" version few months later. That's just my opinion!
IP68 certification and the Snapdragon 836 are barely a big improvement. The Chipset upgrade itself won't be anything spectacular, maybe just slightly increased clock speeds.

Buyers remorse

Bit of a rant and discussion.
I've bought this phone 4 days ago and was so happy with it's performance, look and general experience with it. Long have I waited for a phone to have a fairly powerful chipset like the Snapdragon 660 at an affordable price point to finally retire my Nexus 5 which has started failing on me and needed a replacement ASAP.
When I saw that I could pick this phone up for 240 euro for the 64GB version I thought that it was a decent upgrade over my beloved Nexus and that given that it is an Android One phone, it wouldn't be all that different from a Nexus. What I mean by this is update timely support for 2 years and security updates for another 1. Also, being that it's just as easy to unlock the bootloader as on the Nexus, I was expecting that the dev support would be nearly identical, specially at this price point.
Given that this is my first Xiaomi device, I was not aware of the time it took Xiaomi to release it's kernel source hindering the dev support at the device's prime. But all this wouldn't be as much of an issue since I mainly planned to stick with the stock ROM and root it to get a couple of more features that it doesn't have by default as well as use a couple of apps that make my life a bit easier and when the source lands, we would have it at the devices EOL so that the support could continue. For the whole two days, I was happy with this agreement until I found out about Xiaomi's newly anounced Poco F1. I had heard about this phone on the day that I've bought my A2, but dismissed it because of the rumored price of 400+ euro.
The announced phone has everything that this phone lacks for me which is a 3.5mm jack, memory card slot and a 1000 mAh bigger battery. On top of that, it has that sweet, sweet Snapdragon 845. To top all that off, it's promised that the kernel source code will land upon launch of the device on 29th August which along with the equally easily unlockable bootloader makes me think that the Poco F1 should've been the real successor to my Nexus. Digging a little bit I've found out that the Xiaomi phones are actually officially supported for quite some time by Xiaomi but that the base android version can be old. At the announcement of the F1 they promised to solve the base not being updated thanks to project Treble.
Now, when I was buying this phone, I was very budget conscious and the 240 euro at this point of the year was a bit of a stretch for me given the vacation part of the year, but I really needed a phone and thought that the 20 euro over the 220 price of the 32GB was worth it. Now, the F1 is announced at 300$ in India which would translate to 300 euro in my country, probably (waiting for the launch in Europe). That is another 60 over the A2, but you get so much better specs. Even tho the A2 is a lot more premium than the F1, given that I'm coming from the Nexus 5, you know where my heart is when it comes to "premium vs performance" thing. I'm not much of a camera guy, just need a decent one and both have great cameras but I am an audiophile and I quite enjoy the output out of the A2. The speakerphone lacks a bit of bass but it is very loud (specially compared to the Nexus 5) and the headphone output, even being a bit clunky with the USB Type C adapter thing, is really good. Looking at the keynote, I've seen that the F1 should have a good DAC for the headphones, but I've read that the front facing dual speakers are a bit tinny which is not an issue, just as long as the quality and clarity is acceptable given that for any high quality audio I would resort to headphones anyway. Only things that I'm not a fan on the F1 is the notch at the top and the curvature of the edges of the screen. The notch can be turned off without loss given that the display is larger than the A2 for the notch, but you're still left with those huge curves at the bottom edges.
Now having said all of this, I'm really tempted to sell my new A2 in favor of the F1. Are there any reasons or benefits to sticking with the A2 instead of switching over to the F1 that I'm missing?
I would greatly appreciate your opinion on this matter.
i think you're overthinking and greatly underevaluating the a2 official support.
the f1 has just one problem, miui. and yes, you can fix that by unlocking and getting a custom rom. eventually.
it launches at the end of august, there will be at least another month before you can pick one up in europe at a decent price.
then you need to wait for an actual custom rom official ish team to pick it up, another 1-2 months before it's good enough for daily driver usage. ow wait christmas already?
or you could do what you did already and enjoy your phone, the a2 isnt a bad phone at all!
i got one too, saw the f1 news and i dont feel the same way at all. in europe it's gonna sell for at least 350euros. asuming you ever find one in stock.
if you really want to, mosr eu retailers will refund you fully within 30 days of your purchase you could return the a2 and wait for the f1, i wouldn't but it's an option...
p.s. i also think that even though the 845 is faster, the 660 is fast enough. perhaps even a 636 would be plenty. i find it hard to justify high end chips honestly.
p.s.2 and yes the f1 is gonna break the high end phones market. xiaomi will probably sell as many as it can make and big oems will have to think hard and strong before offering a phone that costs over 500 euros
All I can add is that there will ** Always ** be phones with better specs just around the corner. Did I say Always?
Phones can do so much now, which is good, but making a decision and being satisfied with it is increasingly difficult. I too have a
Nexus 5 (and 5x) in the past. The 5 I still have as a backup, has LineageOS on it and is doing great.
The most difficult thing for me is determining what I really need (separating it from what I want), and then finding a device that fits.
I love that the MiA2 is android one. It's basically Lineage, which is perfect for me. Does it make Network connections quickly? Absolutely, and very
strong connections at that.
Sufficient ram and rom? Works great for me... Snap660 is all I need, with what I do... Unlockable? perfect. Treble? perfect. Decent Camera? absolutely.
So my checklist is... sparse I know. But why pay for more than you need? Oh they'll sell it to you! And they're happy to make you believe you need it!
But what do you need? really?
That's the tough question to answer.
Those two answers above hit the nail on the head perfectly. I love my Mi A2 as it gives me everything I need in a phone.
i love my a2 too but slow storage is on the down side
copying 2 gb file takes 5 min
flashing the phone via edl mode takes 1200 seconds
Sure, sort of. On the one hand, the overall better specs of the F1 has me feeling like I missed out. On the other, though - I knew ahead of time that whatever phone I'll end up getting will be an Android One phone, so... that takes the F1 out of the picture, anyway. Also... I doubt the F1 will still cost ~300USD outside of India.
For a very long time I messed around with custom ROMs, rooting, etc. With the 5X I started feeling like I'm not missing much by not going that route. The most important thing for me is that the company whose reputation is on the line (in this case, Google - since Android One, and all) pushes out security and feature updates in a timely manner.
I also vehemently agree with the notion that "something better is always around the corner" - getting the latest and greatest is a game you'll always lose, unless you have a lot of disposable income. But then we wouldn't be comparing the A2 and the F1, would we?
Think about it this way - imagine what the Poco F3/F4 will bring in two-three years time, when we're due for an upgrade!
A bit OT but it's funny to see how many n5x users are gathering in the mia2 thread ^^ I'm very happy about my mia2 I was concerned about the battery but I get now about 6 hours SOT and that's all I needed. On top of this, the camera is really great. I think that in a few months we will have real nice devices with all we need anted from a phone. ???

Is the OnePlus 8 Pro worth getting in 2021?

Hi everyone,
I've recently was given £500 Amazon giftcard and I was thinking if I should upgrade from my OP6T or not. I've been looking on what I should get like a treat for myself and for phones it seems like the 8 pro is a good deal. I could literally get a OP8 Pro (used like new with original packaging) from Amazon warehouse. I'm not sure how's the custom ROM situation for the 8 Pro, but I do know that the OP9 Pro is riddled with heating and battery life issues (def not worth the price). I could literally get the 8 pro for free with a case + tpu screen protector and some cash left. Basically a free OP8 Pro?!
I've been planning to buy it since Tuesday, but held off as I just couldn't justify the purchase. I could just buy it and return it, but I just don't need it and will probs return it anyways. My OP6T is solid, replaced the battery last year, getting at least 4hrs 20mins of SoT and running CrDroid ROM which still supports my old OP3?! I got October SP as well on A11. The 8 pro is supported as well! Is this upgrade worth it and needed?
From current leaks the OP10 Pro seems to be another boring punch hole device as OEMs aren't ready to release flagships with UDC and even the UDC tech won't be as good as of next year if it even came out next year. A device with UDC that's usable will probs be out like 2023 or 2024 which I'm not waiting that long for. Itching for new tech I guess and support will probs be dropped for my OP6T by then.
The OP8 Pro is a good device with some weird display issues reported by users online. Black crush, display getting green, UIelements staying on the display. Probs not as bad as the OP9 Pro especially when I'm getting it for free lol. I'm just stuck and any help will be great.
Depend on how much you will buy it.
My unit manufactured since mid 2020.
It has Blackcrush , Banding , minimal green tint.
But those screen issues are not major for me.
Let's wait the initial review of Snapdragon next Flagship SoC 898
expect debut with Xiaomi 12 later this year.
Those might give you an idea how OP10 Pro SoC will perform.
I think 9 RT improve heat management in hardware for 888 not sure,
If OP10Pro will improve that further more.

I already said how much it is. "I could literally get the 8 pro for free with a case + tpu screen protector and some cash left. Basically a free OP8 Pro?!" Tbh I don't really care about SoCs tbh they are just like cameras for phones, you'll expect to get a new + improved one when a brand new phone comes out each year. The SD 845 is fine for me. It's just the missing features my 6T doesn't have and maybe battery life. How's the battery life for the OP8 Pro now? Are u still on OOS or are u running a custom ROM? @ps000000
I often switch ROMs, as flashaholic person test for few hours.
But mostly back to stock because my workplace app only run well on stock.
Battery life look okay after 1.5 years.
Just my 1 person experience, you may consider read another site like oneplus forum on reddit , local oneplus facebook group etc.
(English is not my 1st language I might not good explain or good reading well.)
Great phone
Superb development here on XDA
Great community too which always helps
Price should be competitive now too
Performance is spot on, it'll run Wii games to give you an idea of the strength of the 865
Battery is great
Camera has served me well, plus if you want the infrared see through things camera, the 8 pro is the only place you'll get it (and still can on OOS)
That being said.. If it were me I'd see what the new Pixel has to offer (Tizen chip) it's their first phone with this chip, will it be any good? Is it Google's answer to apples M1?
I'd wait and see, if it is then get that, if not then OnePlus 10 Pro (if it will even be called that)
