(Guide) Flash firmware through twrp without relocking bootloader!! - Lenovo ZUK Z2 (Plus) Guides, News, & Discussion

I am writing this as I have seen many people have bricked their device because of relocking bootloader by updating firmware. Follow this guide to successfully flash firmware without relocking bootloader!
1.Install rar from play store.
2.Download your required firmware.
3.Open rar and locate the firmware you have downloaded and open it.
4.Delete the 'aboot emmc_appsboot.mbn' file from the zip and let it rebuild.
5.Flash the modified zip happily
If this helps please hit thanks!

Is there a link for downloading official firmwares? Thanks.

If your firmware zip contains recovery.img then you have to delete it otherwise your recovery will change to stock
I will be soon writing a tutorial to install twrp without bootloader unlock!

This seems a great alternative. I have a few questions though.
1) Can you please direct me to a link which has a legitimate untouched latessst stable indian firmware for Lenovo Z2 Plus 64GB/4GB model?
2) I understand the delete 'aboot emmc_appsboot.mbn' part, but how to rebuild?
3) After rebuilding process, this firmware zip can be flashed using TWRP? Right? Because currently I have a unlocked bootloader and TWRP. ROM that I am running is stock but rooted and few application uninstalled from system.
Appreciate your detailed reply for the query. Thanks in advance.

Hello there! My handset boots into twrp recovery mode only. It shows "failed to mount firmware, invalid arguement". I have no idea how to fix it. I've tried repairing and changing file system several times. Bt in vain. Can u guide me towards any help?
I was using viperos custom rom 3.0. I tried to cange the recovery to cwm, flashed firmware.img, boot.img, recovery.img, sys.img and this sh*t happened. Thanks for any of your help

If the zip is a twrp flashable zip then you can flash it, but if the zip contains only NON-HLOS.bin then you will have to flash it via fastboot.

[STOCK][D6503][5.1.1]Pre-rooted 23.4.A.1.200

Hey guys, I've made the pre-rooted 23.4.A.1.200 zip.
NEWS
I've made a zip to flash the entire update, no need to flash ftf after you flash the zip anymore, but I haven't tested it. You can download the zip here.
Instructions1. Copy the zip to the internal/external SD card of your phone.
2. Boot your phone into recovery (TWRP recommended).
3. Install the zip in recovery. After you have flashed it, DON'T FORGET TO WIPE CACHE AND DALVIK CACHE.
4. Turn off your phone.
5. Using flashtool, flash the 23.4.A.1.200 firmware, but EXCLUDE PARTITION, TA, SYSTEM. Also, make sure you don't flash simlock.ta(I don't have it, but I think it's included in TA). If you are using the FTF I've posted, you won't have to disable TA and simlock.ta, because I've removed them.
DownloadsPre-rooted 23.4.A.1.200 zip
23.4.A.1.200 FTF
23.4.A.1.200 FTF (without SYSTEM and PARTITION)
Pre-rooted 23.4.A.1.200 zip including kernel, no need for FTF flash
Details about zip/FTFOperator: Customized MEA
Version number: 23.4.A.1.200
CDA: 1281-2115
The zip contains SuperSU v2.46 and Z2-lockeddualrecovery2.8.21-RELEASE.flashable.zip
Thanks for the upload! Can you just dirty flash over an already rooted .546 with twrp?

Why do you need the flashtool after flashing the zip in TWRP? I thought it's either or ... but not both!?

Very valid question, I also find no reason to use flashtool after flashing the prerooted zip
After flashing this i try to use ES File Explorer to edit System and I get message saying Sorry test failed and the System is only mounted as Read Only.
I had the same when I made my own roited version of 23.4.A.1.200 using PRFCreate a few days ago. Hoped it wouldn't be there on this one but its the same. Is it just me or an I missing something? No problem on 23.4.A.0.546

Because I have not included the kernel and the other things in the archive, sorry for that. I will make another .ftf file without system partition, so it would be smaller. Also, as far as I know, you can't flash kernel from recovery with a locked bootloader(sorry if I am wrong).

1. Downgrade to 4.4.2, root it, install recovery and follow the instructions in the first post
OR
2. Downgrade to 5.0, root using this method(I never tested it, and someone said that the app sends your IMEI code to a chinese database) and assuming you have recovery, follow the instructions in the first post.
The first method would probably force you to wipe your data(I am not sure about this, but having 5.1 data on a 4.4.2 firmware doesn't sound good/stable. If you can handle the force stops, good job then). Not very sure about the second method.

So you're saying you're not rooted? Do you still have recovery? If yes, then download UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip and flash it(yet it is strange, because it's included in my zip).

This Firmware what region?

New Modified emmc file for unlocking Bootloader without permission from Xiaomi.

So this a new modified emmc_appsboot.mbn for unlocking bootloader via unofficial way.
Whats changed?
Fixed the bug of red LED blinking continuously during charging.
For those who unlocked bootloader via unofficial way from this thread http://forum.miui.co.in/forum/mi-de...5165-redmi-note-3-snapdragon-unlock-the-beast, just use this method to flash the new emmc file:-
1) Reboot to fastboot mode
2) Open CMD and type
fastboot flash aboot emmc_appsboot.mbn
fastboot flash abootbak emmc_appsboot.mbn
The emmc file must inside the anf folder
For new comers, you can use the same method as the previous one by MAGDAG, just use this new emmc file instead of his.
This new emmc file needs thorough testing, maybe this will also cause hardbricks if MIUI roms are flashed without deleting their default emmc file (inside their rom), maybe this will not cause any such issues but nobody will take the risk of testing that. Just use this new emmc with precautions just like the previous one. How to flash MIUI roms via TWRP after unofficially unlocking bootloader? follow this guide made by me http://en.miui.com/thread-256464-1-1.html
This is not the edited version of MAGDAG's emmc file. This one's is new and needs to be tested.
I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY BRICKED DEVICES.
Please provide feedback if this worked for you.

I can understand, If I find the link for full 7.2.3 recovery rom today, I'll post it, if you need modified boot.img you have to first downgrade to 7.1.3.0 and use updater app, it will give a full recovery rom of 1gb for update, find the boot.img of 7.2.3.0 from that zip and modify it then flash.
P.S:- never forget to delete the original emmc_appsboot file in each rom.

no only for unofficial method, and I compared both the official and unofficial file they are different but I know of a way by which we can unlock bootloader unofficially but it'll work just like the official way. Need someone who unlocked via official way, then flash twrp version 3.0.0-0(other versions wont work) and reboot to twrp and select backup and then scroll down and select aboot and abootbak, we can use that aboot for us and solve all problems of hardbrick, but no one's helping me :crying:

2- flash twrp
2- update rom to twrp but deleting the stock emmc_appsboot.mbn inside zip file

You probably used the wrong root exploit.
Download the update.app for your current firmware version & extract then use adb to flash afresh. Flashing boot.img should bring boot back, if not go all the way. All this should be in the mega thread for the device by @Lordbannakaffalatta
All the best.

how did you kill the device?
Really don't know, unlocked the device and then system has been deleted
Get the full update.app and extract system. Flash that with fastboot in bootloader.
Already tried but says the file is too large (3GB of system)
I had the same issue but there is a way in the Fastboot arsenal to send the system img in a few smaller chunks...
Edit: apparently, newer versions of fastboot do the splitting automatically!
