I apologise in advance for resurrecting an old thread but Google Assistant is now available. I installed it Friday and it works great.

Although Google search is faster you have to consider SiRi pulls up more resources and can do a little more. SiRI can open apps, play music from your phone, and use alternate resources other than Google to pull up even more information. I'm no pro iOS don't get me wrong. But if you're trying to declare a 'winner' you have to decide what the 'fight' is about. Is it about speed or features? Google wins in speed, but SiRi wins in functionality.

In my opinion, I prefer the simply mode that uses Google Search than Siri... When Google only says two sentences, Siri is teling you a story... I mean, it's tru that Google Search is faster, and this is what I'm looking forward to.

S voice that comes w the remics rom for the ns4g is cool as can be. It also opens apps, plays music, will search YouTube ect.... grant it, its still a little buggy, but what do you really want from a 2 yr old phone with completely modern software. Oranges over apples any day. I'm definitely a Google supporter all the way. Had an Iphoney, and that's it. Had.

Assistant on Play Store is already better than Siri, in my opinion.
The voices in my head are faster than both and I can change male/female and accents on the fly. I even have celebrity voices too. :screwy:
For you Beatles fans they can speak backwards, and like a snake for you Harry Potter fans.
Top that!

Have you guys ever read comments on a Apple centered blog? I've never read something more hilarious than stuff like that. They claim that Google copies everything that Apple does. They even think Google stole the "rectangular shape" from Apple.
If you feel like you could use some laughs just check out 9to5mac for example.
I look forward to reading comments about how Google's Voice search is shamelessly copied from Apple's Siri "Innovation". -.- Like Voice Recognition has never been used before Siri... xD

Amen Mike. I read mac related stuff all the time. Being a Electronics Tech for a living I keep up w/ most technologies but some of the fanbois just go ape **** about google.
Siri is useless IMHO. Just a novelty piece. Apple users thinks it is the greatest thing since man discovered you could eat stuff off the floor.

That was amazing! [Android 'L']

What did you all think about Android 'L'?
Do you thing the moto e will get the L? I'm not talking about the developer preview since i seriously doubt that, I'm talking about the official firmware whenever it is launched...
It does look pretty cool, i specifically enjoyed the windows phone like UI.

Yes Moto E will get Android 5.0 since motorola already told "Next Major Android Update" for Moto E
I sure hope so... the phone was just launched... the problem is that motorola is now owned by lenovo, not google...

What do the new Play Services do?
I have doubt that moto e will get 5.0 update due to low hardware specification.
Moto E will get Android L. Motorola confirmed it when 4.4.3 update was rolled out, and moto E was launched after it was sold to Lenovo so that shouldn't affect then L update
The MOTO lineup (E,G,X) will recieve updates for 18 months. That is confirmed.

Google I/O is not about device specific updates. Its merely an announcement platform of upcoming Google products/services.
Also, as above post states, its already over.

I couldn't find anything related to nexus 4 on the link you posted.
And, its not about specifications alone. Google has an 18 months policy for nexus devices(same for the Moto lineup). It means they are bound to update the device with every Android version launched within 18 months of the device release date. N4 is past that period so it may be skipped.
That doesn't mean anything for any other device.

See the title of my posted link. The L edition only for N5 and N7. Even its not for N7 2012 edition .N4 users are worry about it and waiting for official announcement.
The only thing I would be worried about is that L runs ART and that takes more space. With 4 GB hopefully that will fit on the moto e.

Marshmallow

Is any developer working on making a marshmallow rom?
Sent from my XT1562 using XDA Free mobile app
You will get a stock Android 6 update, no worries
I too would like to know whether someone is developing a Marshmallow Rom for the X Play, because I think it will be a few months until we will get an official Marshmallow update.
Not currently as far as I am aware v
Sent from my XT1562 using Tapatalk
A build is in the works. Hopefully it boots.
Thank you for your work, I would really like to see Marshmallow's battery optimizations combined with the battery of the Moto X Play !
Somebody will most likely be working on it but I'd hazard a guess that most people will be waiting for Motorola to release an official build. M ROMs should follow fairly quickly then.
Sent from my XT1562 using Tapatalk
I'm hoping Motorola will offer a ROM soon, but their record is getting worse lately. There was a time when they were actually faster than the Nexus devices, but that's no longer the case...unfortunately.
I hope I'll be proven wrong!
Hopefully we will get Marshmallow at the end of this year

Agreed. My Nexus 9 doesn't have one either, but it sure as heck runs much better on Marshmallow. App permissions built in are great as well.
And @fingerprinted, seriously, you're the most bitter person in regards to this phone lol. You hate it, we get it. You don't have to keep coming and posting. Your stance is wellllllll known at this point. I'm just waiting for rom updates that'll make the device run even smoother. On custom ROMs this thing is great, so it's only a matter of time.

Nobody says it's the best device. And Motorola can only do something if they get spammed with emails. Simply ranting on XDA won't get their attention, and since 90% of the people only rant on XDA without actually doing something about it, I don't really see your point.

Also works with good afternoon/evening
I was playing with this at 1am and was surprised myself. I think we are going to find a bunch of goodies with this assistant
I tried this just now, pretty freaking cool.
Try asking the assistant to sing you a song, it had me in stitches! She knows a few songs too!
If you say beam me up scotty she says she really needs to meet this scotty guy, everyone keeps asking.
Unlike google now which will say I canna do it captain, I dunnoa have the power.
