Google is sending the Android 7.0 OTA update to Nexus 6 phones running 7.1.1 - Nexus 6 General

If you're on 7.1.1 and get an update notification, be careful!
http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/0...-7-0-ota-update-nexus-6-phones-running-7-1-1/
Also under discussion on reddit. May be isolated to T-Mobile, but not sure. I'm running 7.1.1 with the March update on Project Fi, and haven't seen anything yet.

Just came across this online. That would suck if someone got an OTA and accepted it. Ouch.......Good thing there's custom ROMs. ?. But yeah....Beware everyone.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA-Developers Legacy app

Why would anyone accept an update to 7.0 when that person clearly sideloaded and knows that they are running 7.1.1? Clearly that person was curious and bit them in the ass on first boot after the "upgrade".

What is Google doing.. Unbelievable

This was posted on reddit from a "Nexus Comminuty Manager". Seriously- WTF?
Hey All,
There was a recent OTA update for Android 7.0 that is causing confusion for some Nexus 6 users. For those of you that want to guarantee future OTA updates, you will need to get back on the 7.0 supported track. If you are experiencing issues after accepting the 7.0 update, please factory reset your device to help resolve any problems.
For any Nexus 6 users that want to continue flashing/sideloading future builds, you can stay on 7.1.1 and continue to do so.
Hope this clarifies! Nexus Community Manager

I'm just glad I flash the factory images when they're available and don't wait for OTAs, but this is beyond my comprehension.

That actually does make sense though.

Google's response on that thread is stellar. I really can't believe how poorly they've handled N on our device. Making me second guess a Pixel 2 right now.

has there been any confirmation / clarification that after accepting the 7.0 "update", the latest 7.1.1 OTA will be immediately available for updating?
dont want to be stuck on 7.0 till april

This is funny, got my 6p yesterday
Better not move to pixel, if Google behave like that.
Custom Community vs. Burning money

2 years support on a phone plus or minus a few months for security updates is not enough for the price they are commanding.

Big disappointment... expensive phone trashed like a low end one...

Now the question is: will security patches come in both 7.1.1 and 7.0 forms?

They will for a while. In the U.S. at least, the Nexus 6 has been getting patched for 6.1, 7.0, and 7.1.1 for the last several months, depending on what carrier's SIM card was in the phone. It sounds like the patches to 6.1 may now be done with T-mobile and Fi now on 7.0. With any luck, next month will bring them all to 7.1.1, but I am not holding my breath with the way the update round has been rolling.

I am currently on 7.1.1 N6F26Q whic I think is the January update. I have not seen a March update yet but I am sure it should have come. Perhaps because I sideloaded the 7.1.1?
Presumably I can download this and sideload it to get to the March update and hopefully correct the speaker phone issue without losing data using the instructions on this page

My guess is that we won't see any more updates even for security purposes.

No, monthly security patches at least through this September.

I think what he was trying to say was that because the "supported" track for the N6 is Android 7.0 and not Android 7.1.1, any security updates we see will only be for Android 7.0, meaning no security updates for Android 7.1.1. Given how Google has dangled the carrot for us with Android 7.1.1 and then suddenly snatched it back it wouldn't surprise me if ending support for Android 7.1.1 on the N6 is what ends up happening.

She thinks that the Nexus 6 is done with security updates no matter if you are on 7.0 or 7.1.1. But we'll know over time.

Google should be more clear on that and just say whats up

FYI: Just did a full factory reset here and got 7.1.1 with March update. Phone runs even smoother now. 1st reset I have ever done.

6.0.1 update

I got my new x style but the weired thing is after installing 2 or 3 updates , it's still on android 6.0 but it has may 2016 security patch,
Isn't it supposed to be on 6.0.1 as may 2016 patch was released after 6.0.1??? Anyway to get 6.0.1 without rooting...???
Here's a screenshot
Plug your phone in.
No, 6.0.1 will likely never come to the handset as an official release. There is speculation they aren't wasting their time on 6.0.1 and working on a 7 release for your phone, but that is rumor and hearsay.

New Project Fi 6P stuck on MM 6.0.1 and Dec. 1, 2015 security patch

Purchased my Nexus 6P a couple of weeks ago from Project Fi and it is still stuck on MM 6.0.1 and Dec. 1, 2015 security patch. Google support says to just wail longer for ota to update but will not offer up any time frame for update to arrive before I should assume that update system is simply stuck. Thoughts on whether phone just stuck on MM or whether it will update shortly. Most concerned about 2015 security patch! Thanks.

Hello,
I would just sideload latest 7.1.2 N2G47H OTA from Google here: https://developers.google.com/android/ota
There is an easy tutorial explaining the process. If you're not sure, let me know...
Otherwise you can wait till you have an update notification. Though there's no time frame as to when it will come to you.
Good luck...

I agree with @5.1. The fastest, least hassle-free way to get to 7.1.2 is to just flash the full April image. You could also try borrowing a SIM from somebody on a different network and popping that in. Let the phone start up and wait for their cellular network to be displayed in the notification bar. Then power down and put your SIM back in. Works, but you are liable to set yourself up for a series of updates. I would also recommend you leave your bootloader unlocked and USB debugging enabled.

Hi! New to the 6p (completely) but not to flashing/mods/etc. Can this be flashed with TWRP or only via ADB? Anything I should be aware of on an unlocked/rooted nexus w/ProjectFi? Assume I will have to re-root - is this correct?
Thanks!

Moto X pure update with manually flashed stock image and VPN

Recently the Android 7.1.1 update came out for the Moto x pure. If i manually flashed Android 6.0, stock and I am using a vpn, will the Android 7 update come to my phone?

If is 7.0 if this is accurate... https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/449/thread-id/19016/page/2 although it seems very limited rollout as of now.
And will you get it on VPN? Depends when your IMEI is up for it, your phone should display the notification but will need WiFi to actually download the reported 1.2GB update. The fact you're on a VPN shouldn't matter too much but it would depend on many factors.

Then it's maybe it's because I manually flashed the the stock image. And after the original 6.0 I didn't get the security update (not sure which month) which was released.
I just hope the 7.1.1 factory image is put up online, so we can flash it (just like i did with Android 6.0).

OK, stop saying 7.1.1 please (some people might get the wrong idea), it is 7.0 and that's it, no 7.0.1 or 7.1.0 or 7.1.1... and this will likely be the last upgrade we get on this device, although I do expect one more bug fix or security patch and this device will move into limbo for Motonova.
Will you get it over a VPN? We really don't know, but as far as we can tell, it isn't "really" rolling out yet, so have patience and see. Will we get the image to flash manually? Probably, but I wouldn't expect it before July... 3 months is typical before we see the factory image surface, but that's just from looking at it previous releases, it could be less, more, or never.

My Moto G5 Plus won't update..

So as the title suggests. I bought my phone 2 months ago, and since I got it it hasn't updated once. Nothing, not so much as a security patch or anything.
I've tried googling this but nothing comes up. I obviously check via system update - and it says it's up to date.
My build number ends 137-33.
Android security patch 1st January 2017.
It's not rooted. And all stock.
Is this normal?
My phone came with same build and you're not alone. Twiddling thumbs may help with the long wait, or root and try some custom ROMs. I've got the June 5th security patch running CyberOS which is based on Android 7.1.2 and other custom ROMs are similar. There's a debloated stock ROM based on India's G5+ update (they got one already) with the March patch at least. That said, there are rumbles ours is finally coming soon if you do want to remain stock and get the OTA.
What does it say under Settings > About Phone> Software Channel?
There hasnt been an update for the UK Moto G5 Plus yet.

I asked a similar question in a separate thread and maybe you know, is the update 137-35-5 that is available as a zip able to be flashed over this same build, 137-33 I have now? I unlocked my bootloader but stopped short of flashing twrp or rooting. I think the 35-5 update only has the May security patch only but someone uploaded the full firmware. Any opinions are welcome.

Yeah, I cannot believe that some regions were being updated months ago to March and subsequently May security patches and the UK is still yet to receive any updates at all. Why do manufacturers make their lives so much more difficult by having such variances by region? A single software version for all regions seems to work just fine for Google and their Nexus/Pixel lines.

How offten upgade?

Hi,
How offten is some fix/uprade for this phone?
It depends on who you ask.
Since its andriod one device official response is superfast updates and fixes.
Reality not so fast as of right now. Oreo was released and then pulled. So new users can't update to oreo from nougat through update (settings).
Hope that changes in coming months
The official wording is "monthly security updates", so it should be pretty regular. They just tripped over their own feet rolling out Android Oreo for the Mi A1, apparently they were not quite ready yet but released anyways because they had promised to do so. Presumably that will get better over time
You will definitely have one of the most up-to-date Android phones. My OnePlus X was still running Marshmallow with no official update in sight, so Nougat is already a pretty good update. I expect that it will take them another month to properly roll out Oreo. Android P is also promised, so you will very likely get the next major update as well next year.
